Togie Lewis

May 11, 1925 – Feb. 7, 2014

Togie E. Lewis, 89 years old, long time Maud, Okla. resident passed from this life on Friday, Feb. 7, 2014 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born May 11, 1925 in Silo, Okla. to parents Elmer Leland Lewis and Mary Elizabeth (Murray) Lewis.

Following High School Togie went on to serve in the United States Army as a Tech. Sergeant with the 5250th Technical Intelligence Company as a Sharpshooter, were he earned the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Ribbon, Army of Occupation Ribbon (Japan), Meritorius Unit Award, 1 Overseas Service Bar and the Victory Ribbon.

Togie married Glenda G. Haley on Jan. 8, 1945 in Durant, Okla.

Togie worked for Phillips Petroleum for 38 years.

He was also a farmer and rancher.

Togie owned and trained many running quarter horses, and he was a member of the Oklahoma and National Quarter Horse Association.

Togie and his family lived several years in Wewoka, where all three of his children graduated from Wewoka High School.

He had earned the rank of a 32nd degree Mason while a member of the Masonic Lodge in Wewoka.

The family attended the Church of Christ in Wewoka.

The Lewis family had lived in several towns including Lindsey and Wewoka before moving to Maud about 50 years ago.

Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Glenda G. (Haley) Lewis of the home; one son, Gary Lewis and his wife Melanie of Maud, Okla.; two daughters, Cynthia "Dian" (Lewis) Koch and her husband Glenn of Seminole, Okla., Connie Darleen (Lewis) Reed of Maud; two brothers, Jehu Lewis and his wife Betty of Durant, Okla., Ronnie Lewis of Silo, Okla.; two sisters, Ruth Slaten of Silo, Okla., Margie Leland of Salt Lake City, Utah; five grandchildren, Mary Katherine Lewis, Justin Lewis, Jeremy Lewis, Raymond Reed, Clint Reed; one great-grandson, Miles Natushi Lewis; and a host of other family and dear friends.

Togie is preceded in death by his parents; five brothers and two infant siblings.

Funeral services are scheduled for 1 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2014 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole with Military Honors. Interment will follow at Cummings Cemetery in Maud.

Casket Bearers will be Justin Lewis, Raymond "Dusty" Reed, Clint Reed, Jeremy Lewis, Jehu Lewis and Ronnie Lewis.

Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole.

Peggy Lindsay

Peggy Ruth (Wright) Lindsey, Earlsboro resident died Saturday, March 1, 2014 at Shawnee, Okla. at the age of 88.

She was born Jan. 25, 1926 in Bearden, Okla. to parents, Eucle Wright and Ruth Mae Robinson (Scarbrough) Wright.

She is survived by two daughters; Claudia Sperry of Yukon, Okla. and Marilyn Permetter of Earlsboro, Okla.; one brother, James Curtis Wright of Earlsboro; five grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Eucle Wright and Ruth May (Scarbrough) Wright Robinson and husband Ben Lindsey; brothers, Richard Wright, Edward (Ed) Wright; son, Cecil Wayne Slagle; daughter, Gail (Howell) Magness; two grandsons, Tommy Slagle, Chris Permetter and one great granddaughter, Jordan Permetter.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday March 6, 2014 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Larry Chesser, Jr. officiating. Burial will be at Dale Cemetery, Dale, Okla.

Serving as casket bearers are Curtis Wright, Gerald Sperry, John Earl Permetter, Sr., Tim Magness, Brad Sperry and Kyle Sperry.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Seminole.

Susie Lindsey

Wetumka resident Susie Jo Lindsey, former Wewoka resident died Monday, Sept. 15, 2014 in Oklahoma City at the age of 75.

She was born Jan. 17, 1939 in Wetumka, Okla. to Charles Tiger and Annie Marshall Tiger.

She married Fred Lindsey Dec. 31, 1959 in Holdenville, Okla.

She was a Nutritionist for the Creek Nation.

Wake service will be 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 18, 2014 at Little Quarsarty Baptist Church.

Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19, 2014 at Little Quarsarty Baptist Church with Pastors Eddie Lindsey and Woody Fields officiating. Burial will be at Lindsey Family Cemetery north of Wewoka.

Preceding her in death are her parents; sister, Salina Yargee; brothers, Homer Ray Tiger, and John Scott.

Survivors include husband, Fred Lindsey of the home; sons, David Lindsey of Wewoka, and Joe Osceola of Florida; brother, James Tiger of Wetumka; sisters, Betty Scott of Okemah, Shirley Berryhill of Wetumka and Ruby Richburgh of Sulphur, Okla. and a host of other relatives and friends.

Arrangements are by Stout-Phillips Funeral Home.

Jean Litke

Jean Elizabeth (Gettle) Litke, 81, longtime Del City, Okla. resident, died Sunday, Nov. 16, 2014 in Holdenville, Okla.

Jean was born March 12, 1933 in Davis, Okla to Iva Cecile (Shafer) and Okay Gettle.

Jean graduated from Davis High School, in Davis, Okla. and had lived most of her adult life in Del City, Okla.

Jean was a member of the First Baptist Church in Midwest City, Okla.

Jean was married to John Harold Litke and he had preceded her in death on Oct. 12, 2000.

Jean is survived by three daughters; Marilynn Williams of Midwest City, Okla., Debbie Black of Seminole, Okla. and Annette Kirk of Alexandria, Virginia; on brother Paul Gettle of Del City, Okla., three sisters Sue Gettle of Oklahoma City, Okla., Mary Gettle of Del City, Okla. and Ann Holmes of Beaumont, Tex.., five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, John, and one brother Jack Gettle.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 22, 2014 at Sunny Lane Cemetery in Del City, Okla.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Okla.

Tommee Long

Tommee Jean Long, 87, entered Heaven’s Gates on Sept. 14, 2014.

She belonged to the Prague First United Methodist Church.

Tommee was born March 14, 1927, to Ocy Dae Cumbie and Cleda (Hutchens) Cumbie in Wilson, Okla.

She went to high school in Vandalia, Illinois and earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond.

She also received her master’s degree from the University of Oklahoma.

Later, Tommee earned a Reading Specialist Certification.

She began her teaching career at Prague Elementary School in 1948.

Tommee was the elementary music teacher and later served as principal.

She taught in many different ways and places over the years including junior high English, senior high girls’ physical education, and coaching the girls’ basketball team.

Tommee taught in the Prague, Norman, Seminole and Shawnee Public School Systems.

At Shawnee, she was the director of reading and supervised labs from kindergarten through high school until she retired.

Tommee had many interests and talents besides teaching.

She had a lovely voice and sang at many weddings and funerals and also sang the "National Anthem" to begin the Kolache Festival for many years at Prague.

She loved to fly airplanes and belonged to a women’s pilot organization called the 89ers.

She helped many student organizations by sponsoring the Junior High National Honor Society and the High School Pep Club over the years.

Tommee married Bonnie B. Long on Dec. 25, 1946, in Vandalia, Ill.

She is survived by a daughter, Judy Ann (Long) Winn of Norman, Okla. and three grandchildren, Mark Darin Winn and wife, Karie, of Blanchard, Okla., Shauna R. (Winn) Wagner and husband, Harley, of Martinsburg, WV, and Ashley Ann (Winn) Jarrett and husband, Jay, of Oklahoma City, Okla. She is also survived by five great grandchildren, Rebecca and Daniel Winn, William and Wesley Wagner and Carson Jarrett.

Tommee was preceded in death by her husband, Bonnie B. Long; her son-in-law, Tommy R. Winn, and her sister, Betty Souther.

She loved her family and we loved her. She helped make our lives interesting, even exciting at times with her love, ideas and encouragement. We will miss her deeply.

The family has requested that expressions of sympathy be made in the form of donations to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation (OMRF), Research Designation: MS Campaign, 825 N.E. 13th, Oklahoma City, OK 73104.

Tommee’s family has planned the funeral services for Saturday, Sept. 20, 2014, at 1 p.m.; and the church is providing the family with a meal at 11 a.m. Both will be at Parks Brothers Funeral Chapel, 1405 W. Main, Prague, Okla. with Rev. Derrek Belase officiating. Interment will follow at Prague Cemetery in Prague. Services are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Prague.

Owen Lytle

Owen Shelby Lytle was born Aug. 28, 1920 in Bixby, Okla. to Harvey Allen and Orpha Mae (Van Osdal) Lytle.

He attended school in St. Louis, Okla. and Ray City, Okla.

He died May 3, 2014 at his home in Maud, Okla.

He volunteered for service to the U.S. Army on Jan. 9, 1942; serving during World War II as a staff sergeant in Normandy, Rhineland, Northern France Central Europe and Germany.

He received the Bronze Star, a Good Conduct Medal, an EAME Theater Ribbon, WWII Victory Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon, and a Silver Service Star.

He worked for Halliburton as a Division Welder and later for the Santa Fe Railroad as a Track Inspector.

He married Jean Armstrong on Feb. 15, 1947 in Shawnee, Okla.

He is survived by wife, Jean, of the home; two sons, Danny Lytle of La Port, Tex., Gary Lytle of Healdton, Okla.; three brothers, Charlie Lytle of Midland, Tex., Dewey Lytle of Beaumont, Tex. and Vernon Lytle of Tulsa, Okla.; eight grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Naomi (Lytle) Jones; and five brothers, Eldon Lytle, David Lytle, Roland Lytle, Lewis Lytle and Gerald Lytle.

The family will receive family and friends at a special visitation, Wednesday, May 7, 2014 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole.

Funeral services are scheduled at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 8, 2014 at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Shawnee. Sid Freeman and William L. Sims will officiate at the services.
