Ivan Hopkins

Ivan Gordon Hopkins, a Shawnee resident died Saturday, April 28, 2012 at the age of 83.

He was born in Seminole on July 31, 1928 to parents Floyd Edward Hopkins and Maud Margaret (Vaughn) Hopkins.

He was employed as a shop foreman for National Concrete in Seminole and retired from the civil service after 29 1/2 years.

He was a machinist and a tool and die maker.

He served in the United States Army.

He married Viola (Welch) Hopkins, on April 22, 1949 in Shawnee.

He is survived by one son, Randy Hopkins of Shawnee; two daughters, Regina Post and Pamela Johnson both of Shawnee; seven grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by one grandson, Arthur Clyde Wells III and granddaughter, Jenniffer Lynn Hopkins.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 4, 2012 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel of Seminole. Reverend Clifford Welch will officiate with burial at Little Cemetery, Seminole.

Serving as casket bearers are Danny Hilton, Randy Hopkins, Robert Hawkins, Jerry Andrew, Jerry Vaughn, Charles Franklin, Dalton Johnson, and Floyd Spears.

Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Seminole.

Doris Hopper

Doris Ann (Skinner) Hopper, 76 year-old, longtime Maud resident passed from this life Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2012 at her home in Maud.

She was born March 13, 1936 at Ray City, Oklahoma (near Maud) to parents Calvin Dell Skinner and Faye (Martz) Skinner.

Doris graduated from Maud High School in 1954.

Then on Nov. 7, 1959 she married John N. Hopper in Cushing.

Doris was a very active member of the Trinity Baptist Church in Maud. She taught Sunday school for many years and was very involved with the Children’s Ministry for over 30 years. Doris served in any capacity that was needed at the Church from serving as the Cook for Falls Creek for over 25 years to gathering clothes for the Clothes Closet for needy families. She loved to sing in the Church Choir and was instrumental in instructing the Little People Choir.

Doris was a homemaker and loved to create beautiful cakes for birthdays and special holidays for other people.

Doris leaves to cherish her memory her husband of almost 53 years, John N. Hopper; five sons, David Hailey and his wife Neva of Dover, Oklahoma, Ed Hailey and his wife Teleatha of Santiago, Chile, Danny Hailey of Bayfield, Colorado, James Hopper and his wife Linda of Waco, Texas and Johnny Hopper of Trinidad, Colorado; three daughters, Cindi Hailey of Santa Barbara, California, Julie Howard of Maud and Fay Storm and her husband David of Maud; two sisters, Wilma Roberts of Maquoketa, Iowa and Alma Allred of Tulsa; 16 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a host of other family and dear friends.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, George Skinner, Ed Skinner, Calvin Skinner and Jackie Skinner; two sisters, Dorothy Brewer and Alice Jean Skinner.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 1, 2012 at Trinity Baptist Church in Maud with Pastor Rusty McMullen officiating. Interment will follow at Cummings Cemetery in Maud.

Casket Bearers will be Bryan Spears, Waylon Curtis, Joshua Hailey, Benjamin Hailey, Cade Storm, and James Howard.

Honorary Bearers will be Craig Hopper, Billy Wayne Hailey and Alex Hopper.

Services are under the direction of Knight-Swearingen Funeral Home in Maud, 405-374-2424.

Edward Horton

Edward B. "Ed" Horton, 66, long time Seminole resident died Thursday, March 15, 2012 at Integris Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Ed was born November 13, 1945 in Bell, California to Louie and Lou Jean (Ham) Horton.

Horton attended school at Bowlegs High School and graduated in 1964. He later attended East Central College in Ada, Oklahoma.

Horton worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in various capacities retiring after 25 years in 2000.

Horton’s passion was golf. He would play in any kind of weather and always had fun.

Horton is survived by his wife Teresa Horton of the home, Son Scott Edward Horton and his wife Annie of Seminole, Oklahoma and his step-son Eric Laffon, U.S. Army, stationed in Alaska.

Three daughters Sherri Sockey of Durant, Oklahoma, Nova Harp and husband Tim of Sallisaw, Oklahoma and Kim Coley and Husband Allen of Chickasha, Oklahoma. One brother and sister-in-law, Dave and Charlotte Horton of Seminole, Oklahoma, survive him.

Horton is also survived by eight grandchildren: Kaycie, Katie and Khloe Harp of Sallisaw, Oklahoma, Tad Alford and Tiffany Cooper of Maud, Oklahoma, Cody and Nikki Sockey of Durant, Oklahoma, Abbigayle and Trae Allen (Bubba) Coley of Chickasha, Oklahoma. One niece Cheryl Stevens and children Brittney and Mackenzie Stevens of Seminole, Oklahoma and a host of friends also survive Horton. He had one great grandchild, Brailynn Alford of Maud, Oklahoma.

He will be missed greatly by all who knew him. Horton truly loved his family and close friends.

Funeral Services will be Thursday, March 22, 2012 at 10:00 A.M. at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Maple Grove Cemetery. Rev. Carl Whitfield will officiate at the service.

Casket Bearers will be Larry Hendrix, Ronnie Allison, Jim Allison, Mike Callis, Don Pinkerton and Dan Hamilton.

Honorary Pallbearers, Jerry Cheek, Gene Crnkovic and Vernon Houck.

In lieu of flowers, Horton would like you to take a child to play golf. Donations may also be made to the American Heart Association, American Diabetes Association or the American Epilepsy Association.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.

Dorothy Hoselton

Dorothy Ann "Dotty" Hoselton, 50 year-old, longtime Seminole County resident died Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2012 at her home in Cromwell.

She was born Jan. 25, 1962 in Tucson, Arizona to parents Larry John Hoselton and Harriett Susan (Hardaway) Hoselton.

She moved to Seminole County 21 years ago from Orange County, California. She worked for the Wrangler Jean Company in Seminole for 12 years before retiring.

She is survived by her father, Larry Hoselton of Tucson, Arizona; one son, Matt Buresh of Midwest City; her former husband, Duane Buresh of Oxnard, California; two brothers, Bert Hoselton and Casey Hoselton both of Seminole and two sisters, Patty Myers and Beth Jenkins both of Seminole.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Harriett Hoselton; one son, Justin Hoselton; one brother, Dale Orange and by one niece, Melissa Myers.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 1, 2012 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole with Pastors Jim and Anita Moreland officiating. Interment will follow at Little Cemetery north of Seminole.

Casket bearers will be Bert Hoselton, Casey Hoselton, Ryan Hoselton, BJay Jenkins, Roger Torres and Josh Norman.

Honorary bearers will be Scotty Gibbs, Duane Buresh, Tyler Hoselton, Kyle Hoselton and Bradley Davis.

Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole.

Vernon Hoskins, Sr.

Vernon Lee Hoskins, Sr., 85, a resident of Asher and a former resident of Konawa died Friday, Oct. 26 at Meeker.

Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2012 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Konawa. Burial will follow at Vista Cemetery. Sis. Ruby Nell York will officiate.

He was born Dec. 5, 1926 in Asher to Scott Johnson "Johnsie" Hoskins and Bertha (Hunsucker) Hoskins.

He served in the Army.

He married Mary Georgia Tipton on May 15, 1947 in Konawa.

He was a heavy equipment mechanic. He also served as Mayor and City Councilman for Asher.

He is survived by three sons, Vernon Lee Hoskins, Jr. of Shawnee, Rodger Dale Hoskins of Shawnee, and Scott Leon Hoskins of Asher; one brother, J. B. Hoskins of Konawa; seven grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Scott and Bertha Hoskins; his wife, Georgia Hoskins; one brother, Ed Hoskins; and four sisters, Lois, Orpha, Barbara, and Lenora.

Juanita Houchin

Funeral services for Juanita Houchin, 89, were scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Thursday in the Craddock Memorial Chapel. Rev. David Allen officiated. Interment followed in McAlister Cemetery in Overbrook.

Houchin was born April 6, 1922, in Konawa, to Jess and Lillian Morrow Wilson.

She died Feb 5, 2012.

She married Buck Houchin Feb. 5, 1943, in San Angelo, Texas.

She worked as a waitress at the Ardmore Bus Station.

She is survived by her children, Robert Houchin of Ardmore, Don Houchin of Tucson, Ariz., Glenn Houchin, of Ardmore, Tony Houchin and Wesley Houchin all of Ardmore. She is also survived by brother, Jay L. Wilson of Duncan; two sisters, Jean Castleberry, Oklahoma City, and Wanda Dunn of Ardmore; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Buck; and a brother, Harold Wilson.

Serving as pallbearers were Robbie Houchin, Matt McCaw, Phillip Bart, Shannon Houchin, John Bradley Houchin and Michael Houchin.

Honorary pallbearers were Jeff Houchin, Randy Cramer and Michael Morris.

Memorials can be left to Cross Timbers Hospice.

David Houck Sr.

David Eugene Houck, Sr., 62, lifelong Seminole resident, died Tuesday, March 27, 2012 in Seminole.

David was born in Seminole Aug. 23, 1949 to Marie Robertson and Sylvester Franklin Houck.

On Dec. 9, 1976, David married Carolyn Ross in Seminole.

For many years David worked in the oilfields as a pulling unit operator. He served in the U.S. Army.

David is survived by his wife, Carolyn; three sons, David E. Houck, Jr. of Seminole, Darin Lee Wheeler and Merion Keith Wheeler, both of Earlsboro; two daughters, LaDonna Wheeler of Earlsboro, and Sarah White of Norman; two sisters, Millie Castle of Seminole and Phyllis Casteel of Eufaula; 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; one nephew and two grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 30, 2012 at Little Cemetery north of Seminole. Jimmy and Anita Moreland will officiate the service.

Pallbearers will be David Houck, Jr., Tommy Kean, Cody Hasbell, Keith Wheeler, Merion Wheeler and Stoney Kelough.

Honorary Bearers will be Darin Wheeler, Bo Kean and E.B. Simon.

Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole.

John Howell

Funeral services for John Lawrence Howell, 46 year-old Wewoka, resident, will be held Thursday, Feb 2, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. in Grace Assembly of God with Wesley Warren and Dolan Ivey officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Lockstone Funeral Home.

John was born Oct 16, 1965 in Oklahoma City, to Homer Olan and Sharon (Cook) Howell and passed away Sunday, Jan 29, 2012 in Integris Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City.

John was raised in Hydro and attended school where he was active in FFA and graduated from Hydro High School in 1983.

He worked for Larry West at his gas station and attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in History and Political Science in 1996.

John was currently teaching at New Lima Public Schools since 2001. He was a class sponsor and a quiz team coach for the academic meets. John loved teaching, and enjoyed fishing, hunting, collecting knives, and taking road trips.

Memorials may be made to the Oklahoma Medical Research Association or New Lima Academic Bowl Fund.

John is survived by his mother, Sharon Bearpaw of Hydro, Oklahoma; his father, Olan Howell of Ada; and three sisters, Donna Horn and husband, Marcus Sr. of Hydro, Oklahoma, Jeanie Adams and husband, Doug of Butler, Oklahoma; and Christine Howell of Colorado.
