Lula Jones

Lula Jones, 88, longtime Seminole resident, departed from this life, Sunday, Jan. 11, 2009, after a lengthy battle with cancer at the Chickasaw Nation Hospital, in Ada. Mrs. Jones was born March 19, 1920, in Seminole to John and Lizzie (Johnson) Kernell. Lula was married to Fred Robert Jones who preceded her in death.

Mrs. Jones was a lifelong resident of the Seminole area where she grew up and attended schools at Pleasant Grove. After her graduation from Pleasant Grove high school she attended Draughn’s Business School, in Oklahoma City, and upon completion of all her courses went to work for the Pioneer Abstract Company, in Wewoka, were she was an abstract clerk for over 35 years. After her retirement Lula continued to work part time at Pioneer Abstract for a while longer.

She was a member of the Seminole Nation of Oklahoma and Achena Presbyterian Church, near Maud, where she was very active, until her illness prevented her from attending. Her spirit and heart were always there. Lula was a devoted servant to her beloved Lord Jesus Christ all the days of her life. Those who knew Lula saw her as a shining example of true discipleship.

She loved people, she loved life and was always willing to help everyone and accept anyone for what they were. She was devoted to her siblings, her children and grandchildren. If you knew Lula then you knew Jesus through her love.

Her three sons and daughters-in-law Richard and Becky Jones, of Oklahoma City, David Jones and Mark and Tammy Jones, all of Seminole, survive her; also one daughter, Janice Morgan, of Seminole; one brother Robert Kernell Sr., of Bowlegs; and one sister, Helen Colbert, of Seminole; seventeen grandchildren; and twenty-three great grandchildren; also numerous nieces and nephews

Her parents, John and Lizzie Kernell, three brothers Julius, Simeon and Eugene Kernell, two sisters, Leister Fife and Bessie Walker and one infant son, John Harry Jones, preceded her in death

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2009, at Achena Presbyterian Church, southeast of Maud. Burial will follow at the Kernell Family cemetery west of Seminole. Wake services will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2009, at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel. Dr. Gene Wilson and Rev. Robert Kernell Sr. will officiate the services.

Casket Bearers will be Thomas Palmer, Michael Morgan, Dakota Jones, Matthew Morgan, A-Yo Jones, Micco Jones, and Don Akens.

Honorary Bearers will be Mark Alan Jones, Cu-Lv Jones, Aaron Jones, Chris Akens, Patrick Fox, and Jalen Jones

Funeral services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, 100 W. Strothers, in Seminole.

Henry Jordan

Henry O. "Doc" Jordan, 94 year-old, Seminole resident died Monday, April 13, 2009, at his home, in Seminole. He was born Oct. 2, 1914 in Sylvia, to William "Bill" Jordan and Callie (Lane) Jordan.

Jordan lived between Oklahoma and California for many years. He worked as manager for Cotton Ginner, retiring in 1977. Four years ago he returned to Oklahoma from California. He was a member of the Lighthouse Tabernacle Church.

He is preceded in death by two wives, his firs wife and mother of his children Hazel Jordan and his second wife Iva Jordan; parents; and one daughter, Betty Jo Jordan.

He is survived by his son, Henry Jordan, of Tulare, Calif.; daughters, Wanda Farmer, of Merced, Calif., Patsy Bass, of Lemoore, Calif., and Ann Galente, of Seminole; sisters, Wanda and C.J. Langdon, of California, Laverne Jones, of Seminole, and Jean Kiser, of Seminole; 14 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Friday, April 17, 2008 at Little Cemetery Chapel. Pastor Bruce Benson and Jess Power will officiate the service.

Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.

Timmy Jordan

Timmy R. "Tim" Jordan, age 46, lifelong Saint Louis resident died Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009, in Saint Louis. He was born May 26, 1963, in Tahlequah, to Ray Otis Jordan and Eva (Rhodd) Jordan.

He attended Saint Louis Elementary School until 8th grade, and then went on to graduate from Maud High School, in 1982. Following graduation he worked in the oilfield for several different oil companies including Saint Louis Well Service. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, in Konawa.

He is survived by his mother, of Saint Louis; son, Jimmy Ray Jordan, of the home; daughters, Sarah and Railey Jordan, both of Mounds; brother, Donnie Jordan, of Saint Louis; and sister, Dorothy Jean "Jeannie" Jordan, of Maud.

He is preceded in death by his father and twin brother, Jimmy "Jim" Jordan.

A wake service is scheduled for 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 1, 2009 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel, in Konawa.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m., Friday, Oct. 2, 2009, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, in Konawa. Father Adrian Vorderlandwehr, O.S.B. will officiate the service. Interment will follow at Collins Cemetery, in Saint Louis.

Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, in Konawa.

Leesa Julian

Leesa Marie "BadBad" Julian died Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2009, at OU Medical Center, in Oklahoma City.

She was born Oct. 22, 1983, at Oklahoma City Memorial Hospital, in Oklahoma City, to Patrice and Dorse Julian.

She went through grammar and high school in Maud. She was a 2002 Maud graduate and went for one year to Seminole State College.

She is survived by her parents; sister, Jamie Bray; uncle, Jim Julian; grandparents, Jack Julian and Jo Julian; one niece; and three nephews; and numerous cousins, great aunts.

She is preceded in death by her grandparents, aunt, and uncles.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, Sept. 7, 2009, at God’s Assembly Church, at 701 Boren Blvd., in Seminole. Pastor and friend Gus Monreal will officiate the service.

Crystal Kanard

Crystal Dawn (Brown) Kanard, age 37 years, of Wewoka, went to be with her heavenly Father on July 20, 2009, at Integris Baptist Hospital, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Crystal was born June 18, 1972, to Larry and LaDonna (May) Brown, at Ft Sill Army Base, in Lawton, Oklahoma.

She married Jeff Kanard on June 22, 1991, in Wewoka and graduated from Wewoka High School in 1992.

Crystal worked for Seminole Head Start Program as a pre-school teacher for nine years. She loved children and loved to work with them. She attended Faith Freewill Baptist Church, in Holdenville.

Preceding her in death are her grandparents, Flossie and A.J. "Buster" May, Jasper and Jewel Brown and one brother, Kevin Don Brown.

Survivors include: her husband, Jeff Kanard; two children, Fiona and Michael, all of the home; parents, Larry Brown, of Wewoka and LaDonna Nutter and husband Jim, of Seminole; one sister, Michelle Blair and husband Jason, of Jackson Hole, Wyoming; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Freda and JC Kanard, of Wewoka; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Janet and Billy Douglas and Tommy and LaDonna Kanard, all of Wewoka; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and many special friends.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 22, 2009 at Faith Free Will Baptist Church, 123 N. Oak, in Holdenville, with Brother Earl Scroggins and Brother Tommy Azlin officiating.

Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be: Andrew Douglas, Aaron Douglas, Taylor Kanard, Cayleb Karnard, Billy Douglas, and Tommy Kanard.

Honorary pallbearers will be: Ron Brawdy, Mickey Douglas, Floyd Snider, Jr. Gerald Jones, Ken Conn, and Bobby Sneed.

Services are under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home.

Jack Kay

Jack Lindell Kay was born on May 8, 1925 at Foster to Obra and Minnie (King) Kay.

He died on Saturday, Sept. 5, 2009 in Lawton at the age of 84.

Kay was raised and attended school in Foster, .

He joined the Army and served from 1944 to 1946.

Wilma Gammage became his wife on Dec. 7, 1946 and began a 63 year journey of love and friendship.

They lived in Plainview, Texas, and Marlow prior to moving to Lawton in 1955.

He was employed by Meads Bakery for 27 years, and in 1982 moved to Altus where he worked for Kay Electric in sales.

Jack and Wilma returned to Lawton in 1999. He was employed at Goodwill Industries at the time of his death, a work history lasting over 65 years with no immediate plans of retirement.

He was a long time member of Central Baptist Church where he volunteered in the nursery and with the community outreach program.

Jack loved baseball and was often referred to by family members as "The Baseball Almanac".

He also enjoyed fishing, dominoes, and his regular once a month breakfast with several of his longtime, dearest friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter MarissaKay; sisters, Verna Huffman, Louise Williamson, and Dimple King; brothers, Vernon Kay and Gene Kay.

Survivors include his wife Wilma of the home; sons, Lindell Kay of Seminole, and J.L. Kay of Crowley, Texas.; daughter, Frances McKinney of Kindiahoma; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Christopher Kemp

Christopher Blu " Ironside" Kemp, age 30, died Friday, Nov. 6, 2009, in Seminole. He was born Feb. 27, 1979, to Arnoeld Gene Kemp and Reujena (Winrow) Kemp, at Shawnee Regional Hospital, in Shawnee.

He was raised in Shawnee and attended Shawnee and Tecumseh Public schools. He was an "All-Star" athlete, excelling in all sports.

He was an Independent Representative for Pre-Paid Legal and an Entrepreneur with " Blu Aromatix".

He is survived by his father Arnoeld Gene Kemp, of Shawnee; mother and stepfather, Reujena and Wingfield Grimes, Jr., of Oklahoma City; brothers, Arnell Gene Kemp, of Holdenville, Charles Gregory Kemp, of Seminole, and Vincent Eugene Brown, of Lawton; sisters, Veronica Kemp Gay, of Phoenix, Ariz., and Stacy Brown Bates, of New Orleans, La.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m., Saturday Nov. 14, 2009, at the Evangelistic Center, in Shawnee, on Highway 177 between Tecumseh and Shawnee. Burial will follow at the Earlsboro Cemetery. Dr. Alma Gadson will officiate at the services.

Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.

Cornelia Kemp

Cornelia Fern Kemp, age 46, of Wewoka, died Wednesday, Jan. 21. She was born to Lou Ann Barkus Moore and Louis Leonard Kemp Feb. 21, 1962, in Wewoka.

Funeral Services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 29, 2009, at First Baptist Church, in Wewoka, with Rev. Clarence Provost. Interment will follow at Westwood Cemetery.

She attended Oklahoma City, public schools and later Wewoka High School. She was an active member of Middle Creek Missionary Baptist Church, of Sasakwa. She helped take care of her aunt Cornelia (Annie Bell) Barkus, until the time of her death.

Surviving her are her mother, Lou Ann; father, Louis; sons, Wallace, Kevin, Rico and Juan; daughters, Walisha and Renisha; step-children, Josh, Rickey Jr., Carmel, Cartez, Sharnisha, Esha, Danny Ray, and Riquinda; sisters, Cassandra, Carolina, Evetta, Rashanta, Debra, and Reletta; and brothers, Terry, Sydney, Kevin C., Charles, Randall, Vernell, Mandrell, and Kevin Kemp.

She is preceded in death by her brother, Leonard Louis Kemp.

Gary Kilgore

Maud, resident Gary Keith Kilgore, age 68, died Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2009, in Shawnee.

He was born Aug. 21, 1941, in Laramie, Wyo., to Kenneth Otis and Helen (Wolfe) Kilgore.

He moved to Seminole County eight years ago from Loveland, Colo. He was a salesman for Silmon Meat Wholesale and Continental Grain.

He married Linda Jane (Fox) Kilgore, Dec. 22, 2005, in Seminole.

He is survived by his wife; son, Scott Kilgore, of Colorado; daughter, Donella Wemhoff, of Seminole; and sister, Linda Nunn, of Wyoming.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Private family services are scheduled for a later date.

Cremation services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, in Seminole.
