Toby Cummings

Toby Louis Cummings, age 78, died Tuesday, March 2, 2010, at the Northern Nevada Hospital, in Sparks, Nev. He was born Aug. 21, 1931, to Rodger and Lillie (Davis) Cummings, in Sasakwa.

He was raised in Sasakwa, and after graduating high school attended Bacone Collage, in Muskogee. He served in the Army during the Korean War and received the Bronze Star. Upon returning home he relocated to Los Angeles, Calif., then moving to San Francisco.

He married Bertha McMasters, July 23, 1975, in San Francisco, Calif. They then moved to Nevada. He moved back to Konawa, from 1978 to 1985 for work, before settling back in Reno, Nev., where he lived until his death. Prior to his retiring in 2006, he worked as a health care provider.

He is survived by his wife, of Reno, Nev.; sons, Todd Cummings, of Konawa, Rodger Cummings, of Reno, Nev., Levi Cummings, of Oklahoma City; daughters, Toni Lee, of Clinton, Catherine Black Horse, of Issaquah, Wash., Tobi Brown, of Payola, Kan.; and 12 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Leo Cummings; and two sons, Toby Cummings Jr., and Wesley Cummings.

A traditional wake service is scheduled for 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., Monday, March 8, at the Spring Baptist Church under the direction of the Stanley Lee Funeral Home, of Clinton.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Tuesday, March 9, 2010, at the Spring Baptist Church (21/2 miles west of Sasakwa), in Sasakwa. Burial will follow in the Spring Baptist Church Cemetery.

Frank Cumpton

Former Seminole resident Frank Murphy (Murph) Cumpton, age 53, died Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2010.

A memorial service was held Monday, Feb. 15, 2010, at 10:30 a.m., at the Fort Phantom Baptist Church, Abilene, Texas. Mr. Cumpton’s father in law Rev. Fred D. Stewart, of Seminole, officiated.

Mr. Cumpton was born March 27, 1956, in Seminole, to Billy Ray Cumpton and Janie Maree Harber Cumpton.

He attended school in Seminole. He married Vickie Lynn Stewart Dec. 10, 1976, in Arkansas City, Kan. In 1979 he and his family moved to and lived in the Abilene area. He previously worked as the Safety/Health Coordinator for Schkade Mines. Frank loved his family, friends, and the outdoors.

He is survived by his wife Vickie, of Anson, son, Christopher Bleu Cumpton, of Anson, Texas; daughter, Elisha Marie Cumpton Allen and husband Trey, of Brownwood, Texas; son, Daniel Lee Cumpton and wife Mindy, of Abilene, Texas; grandchildren, Christopher Drew, Devin Lee, Austin Michael Lee, and Karlee Megan Cumpton; sister, Julie Marie Brown and husband Johnny, of Sapulpa; an uncle, several aunts and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Carolyn Dagenhart

Carolyn Joyce Dagenhart, 61 year-old, Maud area resident died on Friday, June 25, 2010 at her home near Maud. She was born May 17, 1949 to parents Charlie Malden and Ruth (Andrews) Malden, in Humble Lake, TX.

Carolyn married Robert Dale Dagenhart and he preceded her in death on May 27, 2003. The couple had owned and operated D&D Concrete Company for 40 years, retiring in 2006. Carolyn had lived in the Maud area for the past 12 years moving there from Bethel Acres, Oklahoma. She had also lived in Bogata, Texas prior to living in Oklahoma.

Survivors include two sons, John Dagenhart of Clarksville, Texas and Charlie Shawn Dagenhart of Maud, Oklahoma; three brothers, David Davidson of Bogata, Texas, Gary Davidson of Avery, Texas and Mark Davidson of Detroit, Texas; one sister, Jamie Goodman of Paris, Texas; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a host of other family and dear friends.

Graveside services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 30, 2010 at Cummings Cemetery in Maud, Oklahoma with Rev. Carl Whitfield officiating.

Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.

Leonard Daily

Leonard "Bill" Daily, 89, passed way September 30, 2010, in Seminole, Oklahoma. He was born September 20, 1921 to Chas and Blanche Daily in Hinton, Oklahoma.

Bill enjoyed farming, animals, noodling, and dancing. He was a mechanic and there was nothing he couldn’t fix.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Daily, of the home; three sons, Logan Daily, Jack and his wife Brenda Daily, and Steve Daily; seven grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his son Michael Daily and brother, Leon Daily.

Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday, October 4, 2010 at Resthaven Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., Tuesday, October 5, 2010 in the Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel with interment following in Resthaven Memory Gardens.

Bessie Damron

Bessie Elanor (Bickerstaff) Damron, age 96, and a former resident of Konawa, died Thursday, Jan. 14, 2010, at Sienna Extended Care and Rehabilitation, in Midwest City.

She was born on Feb. 4, 1913, in Saltillo, Miss., to Lavonia (Bymun) and John L. Bickerstaff. She married William Kenard Damron on March 7, 1932, west of Konawa. She and her husband were the owners and operators of the Dairy King, in Konawa, and she was a member of the First Baptist Church, in Konawa. She was also a member of the Sunday School Class "Care Circle" at Meadowwood Baptist Church, in Midwest City.

She is survived her son, William Thomas Damron, of Midwest City; daughter, Norma Dean Damron, of Midwest City; four grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and 11 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, John Ray Damron; three brothers; and three sisters.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 18, at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel, in Konawa. Rev. Bob Rutherford, Pastor of Meadowwood Baptist Church, in Midwest City, will officiate. Burial will follow at Konawa Cemetery.

Pallbearers are: Scott Damron, Justin Damron, John Kyle Damron, Dustin Fraizer, Richard Worley, and Jerry Worley.

Wendell Darnell

Wendell Dale Darnell, 52 year-old, Maud resident passed from this life Monday, May 31, 2010 in Calvin, Oklahoma. He was born September 21, 1957 in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma to parents Wanda Jo (Wallgren) and Chester Fayne Darnell.

Wendell worked as a heavy equipment operator currently employed by Steve O’Daniel.

Survivors include his mother; Wanda Jo (Wallgren) Darnell Campell Starr and her husband Steve Starr of Ada, Oklahoma; wife, Juree (Foster) Darnell of Calvin, Oklahoma; two sons, Isaac Franklin Darnell and Clinton Iven-Dale Darnell both of Calvin, Oklahoma; one daughter, Teresha Shavon Fowble of Chandler, Oklahoma; two brothers, Roy Hammons of Macomb, Oklahoma and Cody Campbell of California; one sister, Modene Campbell of Shawnee, Oklahoma; two grandchildren, Jaxon Lee Dale Fowble and Alexis Leigh Fowble both of Chandler, Oklahoma.

Wendell was preceded in death by his father, Chester F. Darnell; one brother, Chester Darnell and by one sister, Lavern Campbell Decker.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Friday, June 4, 2010 at Saint Louis First Baptist Church. Pastor Glenn Peck will officiate the service. Interment will follow at Romulus Cemetery near Macomb, Oklahoma.

Casket Bearers will be; Frankie Walker, Russell Woods, Krag "Opie" Daniels, Mark Crawford, Gregg Foster and Bob Rackley.

Honorary Bearers will be; Jeffery Snodgrass, Donnie Jordan, Frank Foster and Jim Snodgrass.

Visitation will be held Wednesday from noon until 7:00 p.m. and Thursday from 9 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Knight-Swearingen Funeral Home in Maud.

Services are under the direction of Knight-Swearingen Funeral Home in Maud, Oklahoma.

Diane Darr

Longtime Seminole resident Diane Darr passed away on May 25, 2010 at Baylor Medical Center in Dallas, Texas at the age of 49.

She was born in Seminole, Oklahoma on July 8, 1960 to Eldon and Rose (Clark) Shepherd.

Diane moved to Arlington, Texas as a young child and graduated from Sam Houston High School. She moved back to Seminole in 1979 and married Tommy D. Darr on November 21, 1981 in Seminole, Oklahoma. She attended Seminole State College Nursing Program and became a registered nurse in 1983. Diane was the Director of Nurses for Med-Corp Plus Home Health in Seminole. She loved being a nurse and took pride in taking care of her patients; she was very caring and compassionate. She loved her career but most importantly loved her family; she also loved gardening, her flowers, her llamas and her farm animals. She was a member of the Fairview Baptist Church in Earlsboro. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

She leaves to cherish her memories her husband of 28 ½ years Tommy Darr of the home, her mother and father, Eldon and Rose Shepherd of Seminole, two sons: Jonathan Darr of Shawnee and Christopher Darr and wife Jill of Prague, four sisters and brother-in-laws: Barbara and Gary Phillips of Walnut Springs, Texas, Janet and Keith Grissom of Seminole, Tammy Shepherd of Shawnee, Oklahoma and Kelly Brauer of Rogers, Arkansas.

She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Hap and Lucille Clark and Stanley and Sylvia Shepherd and father-in-law: Richard Don Darr.

Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 P.M. Saturday, May 29, 2010 at the Fairview Baptist Church in Earlsboro with Rev. Richard Stillwell officiating. Interment will follow at Little Cemetery, Little, Oklahoma.

Casket Bearers will be: Daniel Phillips, Jared Grissom, Clint Grissom, Keith McFerran, Dusty Darr and Travis Rider.

Billie Davis

Billie Fern (Frizzell) Davis, age 75 years of Wewoka passed away Wednesday, January 20, 2010 in Holdenville.

Billie was born October 7, 1934 in Sasakwa to Ernest and Ruth Frizzell.

She married Wilman Davis on June 30, 1956 in Wewoka.

She retired from Big Yank in Wewoka after 22 years and then the next 15 years, she was devoted to caring for children in her home.

Preceding Billie in death are parents Ernest and Ruth Frizzell, sisters Mary Frizzell and Joe Cole.

Survivors include her husband Wilman of 53 years; two daughters, Donna Remis and Beverly Davis; grandchildren Terry Wayne Julian, Wil Julian of Wewoka, Dillon Julian of Holdenville, Holly Julian of Oklahoma City, and Tesa Remes of Mason; brothers; Jackie and wife Barbara Frizzell of Lindsey, Johnny and wife Mary Ann Frizzell of Morrison; sisters Linda Thomas of Oklahoma City, Betty and husband Bill Freeman of San Antonio, Texas, Jimmy Ruth Tomlin of Lindsey, Evelyn Kennedy of Lindsey, and Vi Baldwin of Riverside, Calif, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Pallbears will be: Terry Julian, II, Wil Julian, Dillon Julian, Beau Sneed, Jake Evans, and Kyle Julian.

Honorary Bearers will be: Terry Julian, Bart Smith, Johnny Smith, Terry Davis, and Chris Davis.

Funeral Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, January 23, 2010 at Stout-Phillips Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Martin Gustin officiating and burial to follow at Oakwood Cemetery.

Emma Coley-Davis

Emma Lou Coley-Davis died on Sunday morning, June 27, 2010, at Holdenville General Hospital, Holdenville, Oklahoma. She was 85 years old.

Emma was the daughter of Comma & Susanna (Long) Lowe, born on July 25, 1924, north of Holdenville, where she was brought up and attended schools. She was a graduate of Yeager High School and attended East Central University, where she earned a BA in Psychology.

She was married for many years to Robert Paul Coley, who died in the 1980s. She later married William G. Davis, who also preceded her in death.

Emma worked as a private-duty nurse, and managed the Hodges Hotel in Wewoka. She loved arts and crafts, and ran an Arts & Crafts store in the Hodges Hotel while she was manager there.

Emma loved people, and loved being involved in her community. She was a member of the Grant Chapel Church, the Oklahoma Indian Methodist Conference and the Red Hat Society. She was also a member of the Vcolvke Emetvloketv Club in Wewoka, and served as Chairperson of the Older American Program (OAP) in Wewoka.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Comma & Susanna Lowe; two husbands, Robert Paul Coley and William G. Davis; an infant brother and infant sister; six brothers: William, George, Howard, Tom, Eddie and Albert Lowe.

She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, various other relatives and many friends, including her ver dear friend Shirley Lawry.

Services will be held at Lillye Chapel, Fisher Funeral Home in Holdenville - wake at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, June 28, and funeral service at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 29. Emma will be laid to rest in the Oakwood Cemetery in Wewoka. Rev. Dan Factor is the officiating minister.

Pallbearers are Bobby Brummet, Steven Lowe, Norman Franks, Amos Lena, Elliot Barnett, Thomas Lowe. Honorary pallbearers are Mike Jefferson, James Lowe and Fred Lowe.

Services are under direction of Fisher Funeral Home of Holdenville.

Leonard Davis

Leonard Jackson Davis "Tex" of Oklahoma City, passed away on February 1, 2010, in his home, at the age of 76. He was the son of Dent and Alice Davis, born on August 9, 1933, in Sasakwa. He served in the U.S. Army for two years, worked for Lee-Way Motor Freight for 23 years and retired from Tinker Air Force Base as a Production Engineer, in 1998.

Leonard is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Sandra, of the home; son, L. Tyler and wife Erica of Owasso; daughter, Alicia Daggs and husband Jason of Oklahoma City. Also survived by Delilah Davis and sons, L. Keith Davis and wife Karla, of Sasakwa, Randy Davis of Norman, and Michael Davis and wife Annie of Cookson; grandchildren, Kade Davis and Reid Davis of Owasso; Addison Daggs of Oklahoma City; Cole Davis and Abby Davis, of Sasakwa, Greg Davis, Chris Davis and Garret Davis, of Oklahoma; 2 great grandchildren, Nathaniel and Donny Jr.; sisters Barbara Rondeau of Holland, Mich.; Jean Mendenhall of Lincoln Nebraska and brother Sam and wife Emalee of Prague, and a host of other family member and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Dent and Alice Davis, one sister, Eva Elizabeth Davis; grandchildren Jeffery, Jennifer and Donny Davis.

Mr. Davis will be greatly missed and remembered by all for his devotion to family and church, his many acts of kindness to others and his love of music and Our Lord Jesus Christ.

Visitation will begin 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, February 4, at Resthaven Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, February 5, 2010 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 2440 SW 55th St Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73119. Interment to follow services at Resthaven Memory Gardens.

Randall Deatherage

Randall Ray Deatherage, 63, Seminole area resident died Monday, July 26, 2010 at his home in rural

Wewoka, Oklahoma. Randall was born June 25, 1947 in Shawnee, Oklahoma.

Randall was retired from Tinker Air Force Base where he had been a Systems Technician for 19 years.

He also served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War.

Private family services will be held at a later date.

Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.
