Edna Bryant

FAIRLAND, Okla. - Edna Offutt Bryant, 85, 102 S. Maple St., died at 2:15 p.m. Saturday, March 22, 1997, at Freeman Hospital West, Joplin, Mo., after a short illness.

Mrs. Bryant was born June 29, 1911, at Grove.

She was a member of the Cherokee Tribe.

She was a homemaker and attended Holiness Church, Fairland.

She married Tom Offutt in 1927.

He preceded her in death.

She married Charles V. Bryant in 1989.

He survives.

Additional survivors include two stepsons, Ray Bryant and Jim Bryant, both of Fairland; four stepdaughters, Sharon Pathkillers, Bernice, June Whitely, Carthage, Mo., Dorothy Brannan, Wright City, and Thelma Koger, Pocatello,

Idaho; two sisters, Mollie Lightfoot, Miami, and Bonnie Fern Varner, Homeland, Calif.; a brother, Freeman Blevins, Miami; a grandchild; a great-grandchild; several step-grandchildren; and several great-step-grandchildren.

A daughter preceded her in death.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Liberty Baptist Church, Miami.

The Rev. Harold Brannan and the Rev. Danny Hughes will officiate.

Burial will be in Ottawa Indian Cemetery, Miami.

Pallbearers will be Richard Maple, Ronnie Maple, Buddy Phillips, Glen Mulvehill, G.W. Blevins and Burl Allen Blevins.

Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Cooper-Althouse Funeral Home, Miami.

Walt McCombs

GROVE, Okla. - Walter Robert "Walt" McCombs, 79, Grove, died at 7 a.m. Sunday, March 23, 1997, at his home after a long illness.

Mr. McCombs was born Feb. 19, 1918, at Columbus, Kan.

He moved to Grove 10 years ago from California.

He retired in 1983 from the Civil Service.

After retiring, he worked as a self-employed welder.

He was a member of Joplin (Mo.) Elks Lodge No. 501; Joplin Lodge No. 335, AF&AM; Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Joplin; the Joplin Shrine Club, and Abou Ben Adhem Shrine Temple at Springfield, Mo.

He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.

He married Ann Irish on May 30, 1969, at Miami, Okla. She survives.

Additional survivors include a son, Robert McCombs, Joplin; a daughter, Sharon Knight, Joplin; three stepsons, Johnny Glover and Richard Glover, both of Joplin, and Larry Glover, Houston, Texas; a stepdaughter, Jerry Ann Andrews, Aurora, Ind.; a sister, Ruth Simpson, Webb City, Mo.; 12 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery, Joplin.

The Rev. Ron Wade will officiate.

Masonic graveside services will be conducted by Joplin Lodge No. 335, AF&AM.;

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at Parker Mortuary, Joplin.

Sue Panter

MIAMI, Okla. - Sue "Suzi" Panter, 56, 120 H St. N.W., died at 1:22 p.m. Saturday, March 22, 1997, at her lake home east of Afton after a sudden illness.

Mrs. Panter was born Feb. 26, 1941, at Fort Towson.

She moved to Miami in 1962 from Tulsa.

She was a homemaker and a member of Northwest Baptist Church, Miami.

Survivors include her husband, Jack Panter; two sons, Johnny Dale Panter, Fairland, and Jacky Daren Panter, Miami; a daughter, Jamie Dee Panter, Miami; a brother, Bobby Lee Waugh, the state of Texas; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Northwest Baptist Church, Miami. The

Rev. Dale Rogers will officiate.

Burial will be in Bluejacket (Okla.) Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Ronald Panter, Frank Panter, Tommy Panter, Ted Green, Mike Humphrey and Clint Fletcher.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Paul Thomas Funeral Home, Miami.

Lena Eldridge

MIAMI, Okla. - Lena M. Eldridge, 86, 414 G St. N.W., died at 10:50 p.m. Friday, March 21, 1997, at Baptist Regional Health Center after a long illness.

Mrs. Eldridge was born Aug. 8, 1910, at Mangum.

She had lived since 1974 in Miami, moving from Altus, where she owned and operated the Eldridge Family Restaurant for 30 years.

She was a member of the First Freewill Baptist Church, Miami.

She married Haskell Eldridge on Dec. 20, 1928, at Altus. He died March 22, 1976.

Survivors include a son, James W. Eldridge, Miami; a brother, Don Day, Oklahoma City; a sister, Thelma Joe Seddon, Oklahoma City; two grandsons; and two great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at GAR Cemetery, Miami.

The Rev. Dewey Johnston will officiate.

Arrangements are under the direction of Paul Thomas Funeral Home, Miami.

Eve Kraft

FAIRLAND, Okla. - Eve F. Kraft, 69, Fairland, died at 5 p.m. Thursday, March 20, 1997, at a Colton, Calif., nursing home after a short illness.

Mrs. Kraft was born April 22, 1927, at Treece, Kan.

She lived the last nine years at Fairland, moving from San Bernardino County, Calif.

She was a private investigator and had owned and operated the Kraft Detective and Security Agency for 15 years at San Bernardino County, retiring in 1980.

She was one of the first female criminal investigators in the state of California.

She was a member of the Guardian Angels in California and the First Baptist Church, Fairland.

She married Duke William Kraft on Nov. 1, 1960.

He died Oct. 12, 1996.

Survivors include two daughters, Carol Swanlund, Yucaipa, Calif., and Charlotte L. Orozco, Chicago, Ill.; two sons, C.A. Kraft and Roger Dale Kraft, both of Yucaipa; and six grandchildren.

Arrangements are pending with Parker Mortuary, Joplin.

James McNelis

MIAMI, Okla. - James Newton McNelis, 73, 1916 E St. N.W., died at 11:30 p.m. Friday, March 21, 1997, at St. John's Regional Medical Center, Joplin, Mo., after a long illness.

Mr. McNelis was born Dec. 12, 1923, at Welch.

He lived the last 25 years at Miami, moving from Welch.

He worked for the former B.F. Goodrich plant, Miami,

retiring in 1982. He was a World War II Navy veteran.

He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, Commerce, the American Legion Post, Miami, and a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Welch.

He was also a member of the First United Methodist Church, Welch.

He married Nadine Woodall on Jan. 31, 1947, at Oswego, Kan. She survives.

Additional survivors include a son, Ron McNelis, Overland Park, Kan.; two daughters, Karen Back, Pittsburg, Kan., and Kate Randall, Miami; a brother, Leslie "Bud" McNelis, the country of Mexico; three sisters, Thelma Webster, Chetopa, Kan., Imogene Mobley, Hutchinson, Kan., and Velma Pat Christenson, Miami; six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Paul Thomas Funeral Home, Miami.

The Rev. Dale Rogers and the Rev. Ed McFall will officiate.

Burial will be in Glen Abbey Memorial Gardens, Miami.

The Northeast Oklahoma Veterans Funeral Detail will conduct graveside military rites.

Nephews will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Pearl Albro

GROVE, Okla. - Pearl Aleene Albro, 76, died at 3:10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7, 1997, at Grove General Hospital after a long illness.

Mrs. Albro was born Dec. 18, 1920, at Mullenville, Kan.

She built Buffalo Ranch in 1953 with her first husband, then continued to operate the ranch after his death.

Her husband, Russell King, died in 1963.

She married Leo Albro on Dec. 22, 1973.

He survives.

Additional survivors include a stepdaughter, Wanda Cobb, Tulsa; two brothers, James Karnes, Dodge City, Kan., and Gary Karnes, the state of Kansas; five sisters, Clara Pendley, St. Louis, Mo., Bessie Wilder, Alexandria, La., Estella Land, Baton Rouge, La., Marjean Rinker, Greensburg, Kan., and Frances Henderson, Dodge City; two step-granddaughters and two step-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church, Grove.

The Rev. Lloyd Crawford and the Rev. Nicky Blackford will officiate.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Greensburg (Kan.) Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Hinderliter-Woodard Funeral Home, Grove.
