Doris Herrin

Doris Herrin, 72, was born on Sept. 20, 1926 in Wellington, Texas to Luthor and Wilma Maddox. She departed this life to join our savior on April 1, 1999.

She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and civic leader.

Herrin moved from Tyler, Texas to Seminole in 1939. She graduated from Seminole Schools and attended the University of Oklahoma.

She married John M. Herrin, Jr. in 1946 and began a 30-year career as co-owner of Herrin’s Ladies Ready-to-Wear.

She and her husband retired in 1979 and traveled extensively.

Herrin was active in the Parent Teachers Association and served as Cub Scout den mother for both her sons.

She was involved in many civic activities and was an enthusiastic Seminole supporter.

Herrin was the first woman president of the Seminole Chamber of Commerce in 1974, and served on the City Planning Commission, and Hospital Planning Task Force.

She served as a board member of Operation Pride, the Junior College Fund Drive, and City Beautification Committee and the Community Chest.

Herrin was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband, John, her brothers Jim, Lowell and Galyn Maddox, and her godparents M.P. and Mary Sue Loftis.

She is survived by her sons, John Herrin III, Celina, Texas, David Lynn Herrin, Edmond; grandchildren Lisa Dorenkamp, Kristin Herrin and Paul Herrin; and great-grandson Alex Dorenkamp.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel. Burial services will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery.

Rev. Glen Blackman of First United Methodist Church in Celina, Texas, will officiate.

Arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Louise Herrod

Wake services for Wewoka native Louise (McCosar) Herrod, 78, are scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday at Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home Chapel.

A procession to her home in Calvin will begin at 9 a.m. Friday, where the family will gather and take her to Tookpartka Indian Missionary Baptist Church, northeast of Calvin, where Rev. Malcolm Tiger and Joe Bruner will officiate.

Interment will follow at the Herrod Family Cemetery.

Herrod died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 1999 at her home.

She was born June 22, 1921, one of a set of twins to Elliot McCosar and Minnie Anderson McCosar.

She was married to Amos Harjo Sr. in 1938.

In 1949, she married Robert Herrod. He preceded her in death.

Herrod was also preceded in death by two children, Jimmy Frank Harjo and Gladysteen Herrod; two sisters, Effie McCosar and Betty Harjo, and one brother, Benjamin McCosar.

Survivors include her children, Elouise Harjo, Amos Harjo Jr., Lewis Wayne Harjo, Katie Herrod, Richard Leon Herrod, Zula (Herrod) Green, Minnie (Herrod) Mitchell, Frances Herrod, John Herrod, Leona Herrod and Estelle Herrod; two brothers, twin Louis McCosar and Elliot McCosar Jr.; 22 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Evelyn Hester

Funeral services for Seminole County resident Evelyn Irene Hester, 81, are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Assembly of God Church, Little.

Rev. Roy Robertson will officiate the services. Interment will follow at Little Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home.

Hester died Wednesday, March 17, 1999 in Seminole.

She was born July 21, 1917 in Oilton to Don and Twyla (Fry) Cline.

Hester was a homemaker and member of the Assembly of God Church in Little.

She married W.M. Hester on October 29, 1939. He preceded her in death on June 16, 1995.

Hester was also preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include three sons, Kenneth Hester, Sylvia, Kan., Harvey Hester and Wesley Hester Jr. both of Seminole; two daughters, Charlene Brookshire, Prague, Jean Newport, Midwest City; two brothers, Donald and Jackie Cline, Seminole; one sister, Betty Hester, Seminole; 18 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

Cora Hightower

Funeral services for Cora Elizabeth Hightower, 81, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church.

Rev. Bob Payne will officiate at the service. Burial will follow at Violet Cemetery.

Hightower died Sunday, April 25, 1999 in Ada.

She was born Sept. 11, 1917 in Lindsay to Ollie and Gordon Lee Southern.

A homemaker, she lived in Konawa for the past 54 years.

Hightower was a member of the Landmark Baptist Church.

She married James Monroe Hightower in 1945 in Buckeye, Ariz. He preceded her in death.

Hightower was also preceded in death by one son, Woodrow Hightower.

Survivors include seven daughters, Alice Branscum, Annie Smith, Ruby Taylor, Jo Hightower, Betty Deatherage, Mae Wallace and Dorothy Kapraun; two sons, James Hightower and Junior Hightower; one stepson, Buddy Hightower; 33 grandchildren, 53 great-grandchil-dren and one great-great-grandchild.

Elaine Hill

Funeral services for former Wewoka resident Elaine Hill, 45, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday at United Methodist Church in Wewoka.

Rev. Henry Bell and Rev. Gale Izard will officiate at the services. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.

Elaine died Monday, Nov. 15, 1999 at her home in Hollywood, Calif.

She was born June 17, 1954 in Shawnee to Wayne and Rosene (Looney) Hill.

Raised in Wewoka, Elaine attended Wewoka Schools, and graduated as valedictorian of her graduating class in 1972.

After graduation, she attended Oklahoma University, where she received a BFA in Theater.

Elaine was very active in all aspects of the theater, and graduated from OU in 1976.

During the summer after graduation, she and her best friend, Janet Ellis, moved to Hollywood, where she stared her acting career immediately upon arrival.

This was her primary goal in life.

Elaine performed in movies, such as "The Competition," and in plays such as "The Iceman Cometh," "Le Liaison Dangerous," "The Elephant Man," "Quilters," "Something A-Foot," "Guys and Dolls," Damn Yankees," "Light Up the Sky" and "Lettice and Lovage."

On May 27, 1989, she met Mark Ferber; they were married in Hollywood, Calif. He survives her of the home after 10 years of marriage.

Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, Wayne and Rosene (Looney) Hill; and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. C.A. Hill and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Looney.

Other survivors include one sister, Christine Hill, Wewoka; three nieces, Christle Burris and her husband, Jimmy, of Houston, Texas, Melissa Thomas and Rebekah Thomas, both of Norman; her dog, Ms. Daisy; and a host of other family and friends.

Pallbearers are listed as Mark Ferber, Joe Ingram, Jimmy Burris, Tim Yearout, Robby Norman and Bailey Harrison.

Louie Hill

OKEMAH - Funeral services for Louie N. Hill, 50, brother of Bowlegs resident Christine Lindsey, are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Little Quarsarty Baptist Church.

Revs. Fred Lindsey and Daniel Wind Jr. will officiate at the services. Interment will follow at Little Quarsarty Baptist Church under the direction of Schumacher Funeral Home, Okemah.

Hill died Tuesday, Oct. 19, 1999 in Wewoka.

He was born July 26, 1949 in Okemah to Tony Elijah and Irene Hill.

A lifelong resident of the Okemah area, he was a member of the Little Quarsarty Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Bronson Hill, Fla.; five brothers, Stoney and Billey Hill, both of Okemah, Dewey and Toby Hill, both of Lamar, and J.D. Hill, Tulsa; and four sisters, Emma Jones, Slick, Millie and Wanda Hill, both of Okemah, Christine Lindsey, Bowlegs.

Ora Hill

Funeral services for lifelong Konawa resident Ora Earline Hill, 94, are scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday at the Assembly of God Church.

Rev. Mitch Williams will officiate at the service. Interment will follow at Konawa Cemetery under the direction of Pickard Funeral Home.

Hill died Friday, Sept. 17, 1999 in Ada.

She was born March 5, 1905 in Konawa to James and Elizabeth Huff.

A homemaker, she married William D. Hill in 1945. He preceded her in death.

Hill was also preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and five sisters.

Survivors include two sons, Kenneth Slusher, Tulsa, and Bennie Slusher, Konawa; one brother, Zill Huff, Konawa; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
