Jerry Marshall

Jerry D. Marshall, 39, died Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2000 in Oklahoma City. Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel with Rev. Allen Wood officiating. Burial is to follow at Little Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Marshall was born in Seminole on Oct. 29, 1961 to James B. Marshall and Patsy Ruth (Collins) Myers. He married Gina Stanfill on Dec. 13, 1982 in Seminole. Marshall was a land surveyor by trade. He was a member of the Oklahoma Society of Land Surveyors and the Oklahoma Game Cock Association. He was also the lead guitarist for the local band “Blister.” He is survived by his wife of the home; his parents, both of Seminole; one son, Jerod Marshall; one daughter, Amber Bowen, both of Seminole; two brothers Terry Marshall of Shawnee, and Curtis Myers of Atlanta, Ga.; one sister, Nannetta Brown of Tucson, Ariz.; and one grandson.

George VanAntwerp

Funeral services George Emerson VanAntwerp, a 50-year member of the Seminole Masonic Lodge, are scheduled for 1 p.m. Monday at Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Oklahoma City. Interment will follow at Memorial Gardens under the direction of the funeral home. VanAntwerp died Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2000 at his Edmond home. He was born June 16, 1906 in Shawnee to Chalmer Wesley and Susanah Maud (Pierce) VanAntwerp. He retired from Chevron and Gulf Oil Company after 35 years of service with a perfect safety record as a field production foreman. VanAntwerp retired to Eufaula Lake before moving back to Oklahoma City then Edmond. He was a member of the New Covenant United Methodist Church in Edmond. VanAntwerp was married Bernetta VanAntwerp on Jan. 23, 1928, and celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in 1998. She preceded him in death on Nov. 7, 1998. VanAntwerp was also preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Thelma Smith, and five brothers, Bill, Charles, Edward, Jack and Robert. Survivors include two sons, Richard E. VanAntwerp, Yukon, and C. Wes VanAntwerp, Plano, Texas; two daughters, Betty C. Estes, Edmond, and Patricia A. Empie, Oklahoma City; two sisters, Mary Sangster, Earlsboro, and Genevieve Taylor, Riverside, Calif.; two brothers, Warren VanAntwerp, Shawnee, and Joe VanAntwerp, Paradise, Calif; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The family asks that expressions of sympathy be made to Hospice of Oklahoma County, 4334 NW Expressway, Oklahoma City, Okla., 73116 or Good Shepherd Hospice, 4411 Highline Blvd., Oklahoma City, 73108.

Marie Jones

Graveside services for former Seminole County resident Marie Jones are scheduled for 12 noon Monday at Rest Haven Cemetery, Seminole. Burial will be under the direction of Thompson’s Harveson & Cole Funeral Home in Fort Worth, Texas. She will lie in state at the funeral home until 8 p.m. Sunday. Jones died Friday at the age of 90. She was born May 9, 1911, in Calico Rock, Ark. To John Thomas and Mary Ellen (Arnold) Churchill. She lived in Seminole most of her life and was a member of First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her son, Harvey Jones. Survivors include her daughter, Yvonne Woods, Fort Worth; numerous grandchildren; and one sister, Lula Harding, Tulsa.

Louise Lewis

Funeral services for Emma Louise Lewis are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at Little Assembly of God Praise Center. Rev. Lee Jones will officiate; burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park, Shawnee, under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Lewis died early Saturday at Baptist Hospital, Oklahoma City. She was born March 1, 1925, in Bristow to Emma Lara Velma (Martin) and Louis Daniel Estep. She moved to Seminole 65 years ago from Bristow, and worked as a sales clerk, retiring in the mid 1980s. She was a member of the Little Assembly of God Praise Center. She married John V. Lewis on Jan. 5, 1995, in Seminole; he survives her, of the home. Other survivors include three stepsons, Paris Carrigar, Monroe, Rick L. Lewis, Shawnee, and John M. Lewis, Bowlegs; two stepdaughters, Betty Whitson, Poteau, and Barbara J. Hail, Decatur, Texas; one sister, Ella Mae Ellis, Seminole; nine grandchildren, Darrell Bookout, Mark Bookout, Jill Bookout-Thompson, Megan Lewis, Ryan Lewis, Jeffery Lewis, Charity Mullins, Elizabeth Hail, Tonya Scates and Billy Hill; and several great-grandchildren.

Garland ‘Pop’ Carter

HOLDENVILLE – Funeral services for Garland “Pop” Carter, the father of a Wewoka resident, were scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at the Hudson-Phillips Chapel. Rev. Jon Ewers is set to officiate. Burial is to follow at Yeager Cemetery under the direction of Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home. Carter died Thursday, Dec. 27, 2001 in Holdenville at the age of 85. He was born July 24, 1916 in Pharoah to Sarah (Williams) and James Carter. He was raised in the Pharoah and Wetumka areas. Carter married Artie Hill in 1963. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Arthur, Reo, Arley and George Carter; one son, Lonnie Carter; and two grandsons, Garland D. Sanchez and Bradley D. Carter. He is survived by his wife of the home; eight children, Wayne Carter of Wewoka, James C. Carter of Holdenville, Jean Elliott of Holdenville, David E. Carter of Yeager, Kenneth Storts of Broken Arrow, Linda Johnson of Blytheville, Ark., Terry J. Kirby of Shawnee, and Cathy Barksdale of Shawnee; 27 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers are to be Shawn Carter, Philip Carter, Chad Elliott, Jonathan Barksdale, Rusty Carter, Walter Barksdale, Matthew Barksdale, and Daniel Storts. Honorary pallbearers are T.J. Sanchez, James Fernandez, and Christopher Kirby. The family requests donations be made to the Yeager Cemetery Fund.

Ronald Boyanton

A memorial service for Ronald Lee Boyanton is scheduled for 4 p.m. Monday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel. Rev. Richard Boyanton is set to officiate. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Boyanton died Friday, Dec. 28, 2001 at Seminole Medical Center at the age of 54. He was born Sept. 8, 1947 to Charles and Dorothy (Yates) Boyanton. He married Arlene Cox April 10, 1970 in Yukon. Boyanton retired from the maintenance department of the Goff Corporation. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Bobby Boyanton. Boyanton is survived by his wife of the home; two sons, Bryan and Joshua Boyanton, both of Seminole; three daughters, Lisa Griffin, Ronda Boyanton, and Michelle McDonald, all of Seminole; one brother, Charles Boyanton of Mustang; one sister, Carolyn Olterman of Oklahoma City and five grandchildren.

Fremont Pope

TECUMSEH – Funeral services for former Seminole resident Fremont F. Pope are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church in Tecumseh. Dr. Tim Walker and Rev. W.F. Crow are set to officiate. Burial is to follow at Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home. Pope died Friday, Dec. 28, 2001 in Shawnee at the age of 90. He was born Aug. 7, 1911 in Waco to Willie Ollie and Eva Katherine (Castleman) Pope. He was a 1929 graduate of Shawnee High School. In 1933, Pope married Sibyl Agatha Trimble. She preceded him in death in 1977. He then married Oleta Adams. She preceded him in death in 1996. During World War II, he worked at the Remington Ammunitions plant in Denver, Colo. Pope also worked for Norton’s Cheverolet of Shawnee and Norton Ramsey of Seminole until retiring in 1966. He was a deacon since 1941 and taught Sunday School for 55 years. He had been a member of Calvary Baptist in Shawnee, First Baptist in Seminole, Second Baptist in Seminole, and First – Baptist in Tecumseh. Pope was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Keith; sister, Laura Irene Taylor; and two stepsons, Jimmy and Steve Adams. He is survived by three daughters, Margaret Akin of Shawnee, Carol Anglin of Longview, Wash., and Cynthia Males of Tulsa; three sons, Judson Pope of Church Hill, Tenn., John Richard Pope of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Jimmy Calvis of Edmond; two stepsons, Joe Adams of Madisonville, Texas, and Bill Adams of El Reno; one sister, Ruth Mitchell of Houston, Texas; 32 grandchildren and 52 great-grandchildren.

Freddie Morton

SHAWNEE – Funeral services for Freddie Paul “The Great One” Morton are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at Liberty Baptist Church. Larry Goins and Bill Matthews are set to officiate. Burial is to follow at Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home. Morton died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2001 in a car accident in Shawnee at the age of 58. He was born Dec. 24, 1943 in Pine Springs to Fredrick Lee and Jewel Addie (Hadden) Morton. He was a 1961 graduate of Shawnee High School. Morton was reared in Farris and Lindsey and moved to Shawnee in 1950. He had resided in Bethel Acres since 1972. He married Linda Kay Yoder in Holdenville on June 15, 1963. He was a member of the Shawnee Chamber of Commerce and a supported of the Bethel FFA Chapter and the Pottawatomie County United Way. Morton was a successful business man and a friend to many, who dedicated his life to work. He enjoyed fishing and camping and barbecuing with friends and family. He was preceded in death by his parents. Morton is survived by his wife of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Cassie Morton of Bethel Acres; two daughters and sons-in-law, Paula and Stephen Robbins of Bethel Acres and Shelly and Kevin Sawyer of Hewitt, Texas; 10 grandchildren, Aaron Morton, Jericho Morton, Stormie Morton, Tyler Robbins, Ryan Robbins, Tristan Robbins, Tiffany Robbins, Patrick Sawyer, Jessica Sawyer, Jennifer Sawyer; one sister, Myrtle Low of Choctaw; five brothers and sisters-in-law, Jim and Betty Morton of Kansas, Ernest and Vesta Morton of Tecumseh, Darrell and Doris Morton of Enid, Mike and Ginger Morton of Meeker, and Dale and Nancy Morton of Tecumseh; one uncle, Ben Morton of Antlers; two aunts, Minnie Ada,s of Boswell and Lois Elkins of Tishomingo; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many, many friends. Annell Gregg

Funeral services for former Seminole County resident Annell Gregg are scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday at Historic Strothers Chapel. Rev. Carl Whitfield is set to officiate. Burial is to follow at Maple Grove Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Gregg died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2001 at Ambassador Manor Nursing Home in Tulsa at the age of 89. She was born Aug. 20, 1912 in Oklahoma to Arthur A. and Georgia (Chastain) Criswell. She married L.J. Gregg Oct. 12, 1932 in Wewoka. He preceded Gregg in death on Sept. 23, 1980. She was a homemaker and a member of P.E.O. She attended the University of Oklahoma for three years. Gregg was also preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by one son, L.J. Gregg of Tulsa, one sister, Lorene Beattie of Seminole; and three grandchildren.

Eula Cully Powell

Funeral services for Sasakwa native Eula Cully Powell are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at Akasvmkv Baptist Church in Wewoka. Rev. Wiley King and Rev. Dan Factor are set to officiate. Burial is to follow at Tate Mountain Cemetery under the direction of Hudson-Philips Funeral Home of Holdenville. Wake services are to be held in Powell’s home at 203 East Cypress in Holdenville at 7:30 p.m. tonight. The casket will be taken to the church at 5 p.m. Friday for the evening services there. Powell died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2001 in Tulsa at the age of 83. She was born Aug. 29, 1918 in Sasakwa to Lena Wolfe and James Cully. She was raised in the Konawa and Sasakwa areas and attended Vamoosa and Sacred Heart schools. Powell was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Ronald Dean Johnson; three brothers, Benny Cully, Paul Cully, and Dave Cully; and one sister, Imelia Kernell. She is survived by one granddaughter, Michelle Johnson of Ada; one grandson, Jackie Tiger of Ada; one sister, Shirley “Scott” Squire of Glenpool; and one brother, Johnson Scott “Johnny Hawk” of Oklahoma City.

Patricia Capps

Funeral services for lifelong Seminole County resident Patricia Capps are scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Doyle Long is set to officiate. Burial is to follow at Maple Grove Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Capps died Monday, Dec. 24, 2001 at Shawnee Regional Hospital at the age of 69. She was born March 17, 1932 in Seminole to Luther H. and Fannie (Robinson) Cornett. She was a homemaker and a former member of First Baptist Church. Capps was preceded in death by her father; one sister, Marion Mayfield; and one sister, Charles Cornett. She is survived by her mother of Seminole; two sons, Frank Capps of Oklahoma City and Jamie Capps of Seminole; two daughter, Phyllis Sherwin of Earlsboro and Cynthia Capps of Yukon; one brother, Luther Cornett Jr. of Seminole; one sister, Frances McElroy of Seminole; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Mildred Streetman

Funeral services for Konawa native Mildred Streetman are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church. Dr. Jeff Moore, pastor of Immanuel Baptist Church of Shawnee, is set to officiate. Burial is to follow at Maple Grove Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh. There is to be a viewing at the funeral home today and tomorrow. A viewing at the church is set for Friday beginning at 11 a.m. Streetman died Friday, Dec. 21, 2001 in Hanover, Pa. at the age of 84. She was born May 18, 1917 in Konawa to Jefferson Lafayette and Rosie Lee (Kemper) Akin. She attended school at Konawa. Streetman married Frank Streetman in Sasakwa in November of 1936. He preceded her in death on July 28, 1971. Following her married, she lived in Sasakwa where she and her husband operated a general store. Streetman later lived in Oklahoma City. She and her husband moved to Seminole in 1953 and operated Streetman’s Redbud Grocery and Streetman’s Well Servicing Company. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Seminole where she was an active member of the church choir. Streetman was also a member of the Verbena Garden Club and a founding member of the Seminole Arts Council. She was also preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Kate Sweetman and Virginia Zoeller; and four brothers, Frank, Jubal, Bobby, and Daniel Akin. She is survived by three daughters, Marion Henry of Oklahoma City, Phoebe Wetzel of Hanover, Pa., and Susan Jordan of Shawnee; one son, Mark Streetman of Cottonwood, Ariz.; two sisters, Mary Dorr of Oklahoma City, and Louise Lyon of Seminole; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
