Andrew Cosar

Andrew Gieson Cosar, 60, of Konawa, went home to be with the Lord at 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 5 2001 at Carl Albert Indian Hospital. Funeral services will be held Monday, April 9, 2001 at 1 p.m. at Seminole Baptist Indian Church in Konawa. Houston Tiger and Woody Fields will officiate the services. Burial is to be held at the Cosar Family Cemetery north of Konawa under the direction of Pickard Funeral Home. Andrew is survived by his wife, Virginia Cosar, of the home; two sons Anthony Gordon and Mickey Lee Cosar; two daughters, Andrea Lily Cosar and Amy LaWanda (Cosar) Anderson, all of Konawa; two brothers Jimmy Carpitcher of Tulsa, and Larry James Johnson of Altus; four sisters, Anita Mae j(Cosar) Holuby of Oklahoma City, Jackie Ann (Carpitcher) Kernal of Ada, Julia (Carpitcher) Isaac of Ardmore, and Joanna (Carpitcher) Walker of Byng. He is also survived by four grandsons; three granddaughters; and a host of nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and other relatives and loving friends. Andrew was also preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Lobe and Sophrona (Powell) Cosar; and his maternal grandparents, Sinhichke and Rosanna (Davis) Harjo. He was born Aug. 8, 1940 in Wewoka to Wonnie Cosar and Winnie Mae (Harjo) Burgess. They preceded him in death. Andrew, a Deacon chosen by God, was ordained by Allison Phillips, Harly Barnoski, and the late Major Hawkins in 1970 at Okmulgee Indian Baptist Church in Okmulgee. He continued his work as a deacon for Seminole Baptist Indian Church in Konawa. He also served in the armed forces for 18 years. Andrew was a SP5 in the 120th Supply and Service Battalion from which he was Honorably Discharges with Sincere Appreciation on Nov. 3, 1985. Thereafter, Andrew served as a police officer for the City of Konawa and as Head of Tribal Security for the Seminole Nation Tribal Complex in Wewoka. Pallbearers are Wayne Holhata, Bunny Carpitcher Jimsey Harjo, Dave Bowlegs, Jonas Burgess, and James Bell.

Gerald Hernandez

Funeral services for Wewoka resident Gerald Dean Hernandez, 63, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at New Life Church. Revs. Gary Palmari and Jimmy Freeman will officiate at the services. Interment will follow at Crossroad Cemetery in Sasakwa under the direction of Stout Funeral Home. Hernandez died Wednesday, April 4, 2001 at University Hospital in Oklahoma City. He was born Aug. 17, 1937 in Riverside, Calif. to Nestor and Mable (Neel) Hernandez. He moved from California to Oklahoma in 1991, and attended the New Life Church. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Otis Phillips, Jack Phillips and Don Phillips. Survivors include his wife, Tracy, of the home; four children, Sheila D. Herschel, Oregon, Cory Hernandez, Sharon Hernandez and Jennifer Hernandez, all of California; and one brother, Leslie Hernandez, Wewoka; and six grandchildren. Pallbearers are listed as Dale Ervin, Jim Patterson, Gerald Blassingame, Jim Rieff, Shawn Ervin, Harold Lambertson and David Atkins.

Agnes Lovelace

Graveside services for longtime Seminole resident Agnes (Winters) Lovelace, 92, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at Yeager Cemetery. Rev. Steve Cline will officiate at the service. Arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Lovelace died Tuesday, April 3, 2000 at St. Vincent North Hospital in Sherwood, Ark. She was born Sept. 21, 1908 in Wetumka to Ed and Clara Bell (Harding) Winters. Lovelace moved to Seminole from Lindsay in 1969. She was employed with Pioneer Nursing Home as a dietary assistant until 1987. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church, a life member of the Friendship #224 Rebekah Lodge, and had just received her 50-year pin member of the Eastern Star. She was married to Jordan Elijah Lovelace on April 9, 1944 in Holdenville. He preceded her in death on May 31, 1990. Lovelace was also preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and three sisters. Survivors include one daughter, Brenda Maples, Lonoke, Ark.; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Opal Stalnaker

Funeral services for longtime Seminole resident Opal Lois Stalnaker are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel with Dr. Kelvin Moseley officiating. Burial is to be in Cummings Cemetery in Maud under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Stalnaker died Wednesday, April 4, 2001, at Seminole Medical Center at the age of 93. She was born on Nov. 23, 1907 in Boss, Mo. to Lee Bowers and Myrtle (Reeves) Bowers and was raised in Maud. She married L.C. “Pete” Stalnaker on Oct. 14, 1925. He preceded her in death on Nov. 9, 1986. The couple moved from Maud to Seminole in 1939. Stalnaker was a homemaker and cashier for Harvest House Restaurant for several years. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Seminole. Stalnaker is survived by one son, Don Stalnaker of Seminole; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. The Stalnaker family would like to acknowledge the importance of the First Baptist Church family since 1939, Dr. Kelvin Moseley, and Dr. Gus Shi.

Willard Lisenbery

Willard Lisenbery was born June 20, 1927 in Binger, Oklahoma to C.W. and Lucille Lisenbery. He passed away Wednesday, April 4, 2001 at Shawnee Regional Hospital at the age of 73. Willard made his home in Seminole for more than 50 years, retiring from oil field supply after 47 years in the same profession. He and his wife enjoyed retirement at their acreage in Anadarko, known to many as “Dollar Pond.” He enjoyed fishing, gardening and watching “his” deer. He got most joy out of life by watching his daughter fly fish and granddaughter play softball. On October 8, 1949, he married Dorothy Hilton in Binger, Okla. She survives him of the home. He is also survived by his daughter, Lori Lisenbery Hill; granddaughter, Cortnei Johnson; son-in-law, Timothy Hill; brother, Buddy Lisenbery; sister, Wilma Smalley; seven nieces and nephews; and aunt, Mrs. Afton Fine of Ivenho, Calif. Willard was preceded in death by his parents; and an infant sister, Imogene Lisenbery. Funeral services will be held Friday, April l6, 2001 at 10 a.m. at Swearingen Funeral Home with Rev. Stephen Cline officiating. Graveside services will be held at 4 p.m. at Memory Lane Cemetery in Anadarko. Casket bearers at the funeral home will be Bill Jones, Ronnie Conner, Jirl McGinnis, Don Cox, Paul Waltman, and Dick Myrick. Casket bearers at the cemetery will be Charles Lisenbery, Terry Lisenbery, Eddie Johnson, Derek McDuffey, Ricky McNamar, and Travis Lisenbery. The family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Interfaith Social Ministries, P.O. Box 1602, Seminole, OK 74818.

Juanita Shores

Graveside services for Wewoka native Juanita C. Shores of Pleasantville, Ind. were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Dugger Cemetery in Dugger, Ind. with Rev. Harley Archer officiating. Services were under the direction of Newkirk Funeral Home of Dugger, Ind. Shores died Friday, March 30, 2001, at Sullivan County Community Hospital at the age of 72. She was born Aug. 10, 1928 in Wewoka to William Walden and Dora L. (Coffman) Moon. Shores was a member of the United Pentecostal Church in Seminole. She is survived by one daughter, Rebecca Archer of Plesantville, Ind.; two brothers, Herbert Moon and Elbert Moon, both of Oklahoma; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Cecil Thomas

Graveside services for Konawa resident Cecil Pierce Thomas were held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Vamoosa Cemetery under the direction of Pickard Funeral Home of Konawa with Rev. Charlie Henthorn officiating. Thomas died Sunday, April 1, 2001 at Maud at the age of 88. He was born on May 5, 1912 in Ada to Ollie Belle and A. Luther Thomas. He was a laborer who lived in the Konawa area all of his life. He had no survivors.

Beecher Isaacs

Beecher Samuel Isaacs, a resident of Konawa, died Friday, March 30, 2001 in Ada at the age of 82. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Grace Community Church with Rev. Drew Isaacs officiating. Services were under the direction of Pickard Funeral Home of Konawa. He was born May 12, 1918 in Bebee to Jess and Ida Belle Isaacs. Isaacs married Nora Muncreif on Aug. 8, 1942 in Konawa. He was a carpenter by trade and lived in Konawa most of his life. Isaacs was preceded in death by one brother, Raymond Isaacs. He is survived by four sons, Aaron Isaacs, and David Isaacs, both of Morenci, Ariz., Gary Isaacs, and Drew Isaacs, both of Konawa; four brothers, Orville Isaacs, Vemon Isaacs, Billy Joe Isaacs, and Douglas Isaacs, all of Konawa; five sisters, Wyoma Pairet of Brownsburg, Ind., Audrey Coorsey of Albuquerque, N.M., Lola Roberts of Bakersfield, Calif., LaVada Archer of Glendale, Ariz., and Geneva Rodgers of Konawa; 11 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Allen Isaacs, Justin Isaacs, Nathan Isaacs, Jonathan Isaacs, Micah Isaacs, and Seth Isaacs.

Jerry Thomas

Funeral services for Seminole resident Jerry Lanelle Thomas are scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel with Pastor Patterson and Rev. Roy Robertson officiating. Burial is to be in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens of Seminole under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Thomas died Sunday, April 1, 2001 at her home at the age of 68. She was born on Nov. 19, 1932 in Iraan, Texas to Hugh Alexander Polly and Sadie Lois Polly. She married Harry O. Thomas on Dec. 24, 1952 in Kermit, Texas. Thomas moved to Seminole 17 years ago from Fort Morgan, Colo. She was a retired store owner, having owned and operated Harry and Jerry’s Stop-N-Go. Thomas was a full-time homemaker, wife, mother, fisher, and cook. She was a member of Northwood Church of the Nazarene, and Grand Cross of Color. Thomas was active with Rainbow Girls and was Past Worthy Matron of Eastern Star. She served as a volunteer Pink Lady at Seminole Hospital and was a Sunday School teacher. Thomas was preceded in death by her father; one sister, Paula Jean Polly; and one granddaughter, Katelyn Polly Bray. She is survived by her husband of the home; her mother, Sadie Lois Polly of Artesia, N.M.; two sons, Harry O. Thomas Jr. of Ardmore, and Curtis L. Thomas of Seminole; two daughters, Susan Lois Reagan of Seattle, Wash., and Wilda Mae Bray of Fort Smith, Ark.; two brothers, Hugh Polly of Mustang, and Tommy Polly of Artesia, N.M.; three sisters, Janet Steele of Midland, Texas, Jackie Perminter of Odessa, Texas, and Judy Jarvis of Ruidoso, N.M.; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. The family asks that expressions of sympathy be made to Northwood Church of the Nazarene in Seminole.

Danny Cranfield

A memorial service for longtime Seminole resident Danny Arthur Cranfield, 47, is scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel with Rev. Larry Chesser officiating. Services will be under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. He died Saturday, March 31, 2001, at Integris Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City. Cranfield was born Oct. 23, 1953 in Oklahoma City to Arthur W. Cranfield and Roxie Ann (Ivers) Cranfield. He married Shirley Aycox on June 10, 1974 in Oklahoma City. A 1972 graduate of Moore High School, Cranfield worked in the shipping department at Wrangler until his retirement. Cranfield had been a resident of Seminole for the past 20 years. He was saved at Airport Assembly of God Church in Oklahoma City in 1978. Cranfield was preceded in death by an infant son, William Kirk Cranfield. He is survived by his wife of the home; his parents, Arthur and Roxie Ann Cranfield of Seminole; one son and daughter-in-law, Danny Arthur Jr. and Melissa Cranfield of Shawnee; two daughters and a son-in-law, Lori Cranfield of the home, and Jennie and Anthony Chesser of Seminole. Other survivors include one brother, Sammy Ivers of Earlsboro; two sisters, LeAnna Tiger of Seminole, and Roxann Ginn of Sitka, Alaska; four grandchildren, Madison Leann Cranfield, Christain Kirk Cranfield, Anthony Jacob Chesser, and Danny Tyler Chesser.

Phillip Spencer

A 51-year-old Shawnee man, who had served as a cook at Seminole’s Bus Station Cafe, was found dead in an alley Friday in Shawnee. Police believe Phillip Spencer died of a heart attack while walking in the alley behind Marquis Furniture Company. According to The Shawnee News-Star, a furniture company employee saw Spencer walking in the alley shortly before 3 p.m., and found him laying face down clutching his chest five minutes later. He was born March 22, 1950, in Shawnee to Sandy and Lillie (Fox) Spencer. He lived in Shawnee all his life and had also worked at the Cinderella, the Grand Café and the Holiday Inn. He served in the US Army and was a member of the Seminole Nation. Spencer married Martha Harjo Nov. 29, 1994, in Shawnee; she survives him, of the home. Other survivors include four daughters, Laurel Spencer and Phyllis Hernandez, both of Albuquerque, Katie and Kylee Spencer, both of Norman; five sisters, Vivian Bender and Loretta Murphy, both of Shawnee, Betsy Casteel and Rita Vizenor, both of Tecumseh, and Mary Kizer, Norman. He was preceded in death by two daughters; a son, Phillip Spencer Jr.; his parents; and one brother, Sandy Spencer Jr. A wake is planned for 7 p.m. Monday in the Murphy family home. Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday at Cooper Funeral Chapel. Houston Tiger and Rev. Joe Bender will officiate, with burial following in Tecumseh Cemetery.

John Stafford

John Marvin Stafford, a lifelong Seminole County resident, died Friday, March 30, 2001 at Seminole Medical Center at the age of 93. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at the Church of Christ in Wewoka with Johnnie Hinton officiating. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery under the direction of Stout Funeral Home. Pallbearers are to be the men of the Church of Christ. Stafford was born Jan. 19, 1908 to George W. and Rosa (Farris) Stafford in Hughes County. He was reared and educated in the Limestone area. Stafford married Virginia Brown on Feb. 1, 1930 in Holdenville. She preceded him in death in 1977. He retired from the Seminole County Highway Department in 1973. Previously, he was a bus driver for the New Lima School System for many years. Stafford had been a member of the Church of Christ in Wewoka since 1956. He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; one grandson, Victor Smith; four brothers; and seven sisters. Stafford is survived by four daughters, Jacquelyn Smith of Bartlesville, Shirley Parks of Tulsa, Beverly Lawson of Muskogee, and Bernary White of Wewoka; four grandchildren; Michael Smith of Dewey, Kevyn Rutherford of Tulsa, Mark Lawson of Muskogee, and Sharon Lawson of Oklahoma City; great-grandchildren, Jarryd Smith, Tammi Eden, Michelle Rutherford, and six others; two great-great-grandchildren, Bailee and Bradyn Smith; a loving and attentive niece, Joy Epperley; and a host of other nieces and nephews, and many relatives and friends.
