Ila Dixson

Funeral services for the mother of a Maud resident, Ila Dixson of Shawnee, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at First Church of God in Tecumseh with Robert Westfall and Ervin Anderson officiating. Burial is to be a t Tecumseh Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh. She died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001 in Shawnee at the age of 97. Dixson was born on Dec. 14, 1093 in Francis to Irwin Willis Jones and Mattie Clementine (Cunningham) Jones. She married Leonard F. Dixson on April 20, 1919 in Maud. He preceded her in death on Dec. 19, 1967. Dixson was the former Harjo postmistress and in the 1930s reported the Tecumseh news to the Shawnee News-Star. She had also worked on the family farm and for Up-to-Date Laundry. Dixson was a member of the First Church of God in Tecumseh and lived the majority of her life in Pottawatomie County. She was also preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Willis Dixson and Elbert Dixson, and three sisters, Ruby, Opal and Oletha. Dixson is survived by her daughter, Thelma Hudlow of Oklahoma City; one son, Marshall Dixson of Maud; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Arnetta Ellis

Funeral services for the sister of Wewoka residents, Arnetta (Jones) Emhoolah Ellis of Checotah, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at the Seminole Baptist Church in Vamoosa with Revs. Alex Burgess, Leon Postoak and Robin Tiger officiating. Wake services were held Saturday evening at Stout Chapel. She is to be taken to the church at 4:30 p.m. Sunday for all-night services. Interment is to be in the Seminole Baptist Church Cemetery under the direction of Stout Funeral Home. Ellis died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001, in the Southcrest Hospital in Tulsa at the age of 63. She was born Oct. 17, 1937 in Ada to Jack Jones and May Burgess. She was reared in the Konawa area and attended Eufaula Indian School, Carter Seminary in Purcell, and Chilocco Indian School. Ellis married Kenneth Ellis on June 10, 1986 in Ft. Smith, Ark. She had lived in Tulsa for 14 years before moving to Oklahoma City in 1972. She had lived in Checotah since 1992. While in Oklahoma City and Tulsa, she had attended several business colleges. Ellis retired in 1992 after working for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company for 15 years. She was a member of the Seminole Baptist Church in Vamoosa and the Communications Worker’s Union. Ellis was preceded in death by her parents; her step mother, Pricilla Jones; and two brothers, Jack W. Jones Jr., and Jody Jones. She is survived by her husband of Checotah; five children, Rayna Old Bull of Bemidji, Minn., Donnia Antuna of Grand Prairie, Texas, Mark Ellis, Kim Ellis, and Jennifer Coon, all of Tulsa; six grandchildren; one great-grandson; and four sisters, Mary Franks, and Jenny Jones, both of Wewoka, Armetta Jones and Jeanese Jones, both of Oklahoma City. Serving as pallbearers are Jason Smith, Jadrien Antuna, Mark Ellis, Osceola York, Gerald Wheeler, and Ricky Bemo. Honorary bearers will be Paul Wheeler, Leroy Cass, and Andrew Grimm.

Rev. Jackson Deere

Funeral services for Seminole native Jackson E. Deere are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Hitchita Methodist Church in Seminole. Internment is to follow in Tulsa under the direction of Rose Hill Funeral Home of Tulsa. Deere died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001 at his home in Tulsa at the age of 83. He was born on Feb. 19, 1917 in Seminole to Robert and Nicy Deere. He was a veteran of World War having served in the U.S. Army airborne in Greenland. Deere served as a Methodist minister following his retirement from the oilfield. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Inez (Mitchell) Deere in 1985; his parents; three sisters, Annie Pruitt, Cindy Harjo, Lizzie Harjo; and three brothers, Sammie Deere, Jesse Deere, George Deer. Deere is survived by his wife, Beatrice Deere, of the home; six sons, Larry G. Deere of Oklahoma City, Richard Barnett, Ben Conred, Marty Conred, Daniel Wind, and Richard Barnett Jr.; four daughters, Luci Harjo of Seminole, Kathy Deere of Tecumseh, Joanne Gentry of Washington State, and Brenda Howell; one brother, Buster Deere of Seminole; 39 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers are to be his grandsons; Keith Atkins, John Harjo, Forrest Atkins, Joey Harjo, Michael Harjo, Robert Deere, Jamie Deere. Honorary bearers are Jeremy Harjo, Jack Harjo, Aaron Eustler.

Pink Huffman

Funeral services for former Konawa resident Pink Richard Huffman were held today at Pickard Chapel with Pastor Rider officiating and Pastor Brodrick assisting. Burial followed at Vamoosa Cemetery under the direction of Pickard Funeral Home of Konawa. He died Friday, Feb. 1, 2001 at the age of 88. Huffman was born on June 2, 1912 in Searacy County, Ark. to Adelane and William Henry Huffman. He married Myrtle (Graham) on Nov. 1, 1933 in Sasakwa. Huffman was a member of the First Assembly of God Church. He was a Seminole County retiree and had been a Konawa resident until he moved to Tecumseh 25 years ago. Huffman was preceded in death by his wife in March 1991, one infant son, and one daughter, Wanda Nadine McGinnis. He is survived by one daughter, Linda Campbell of Bethel Acres, four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Jerry McGinnis, Mike Campbell, Alan Campbell, Chris Shelton, Nathan White, and Mac Shelton.

Charles ‘Frank’ Barr

Charles Franklin “Frank” Barr died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001 at Norman Regional Hospital at the age of 70. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel with Dr. Kelvin Moseley officiating. Interment is to be in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Seminole under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. He was born on March 27, 1930 in Aimwell, La. to Marion Franklin Barr and Bertha Leona (Crain) Barr and grew up in Overton, Texas. Barr married Mary Jo Charles on March 24, 1955 in Tyler, Texas. He was a Staff Sgt. in the U.S. Air Force and veteran of the Korean War having served from Jan. 6, 1951 to Nov. 22, 1964. Following his military service, Barr worked as an oil well supply manager for Continental Emsco for 31 years. He retired in 1995. He moved to Seminole from Cushing in 1970. Barr was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Lindsey, a former member of the Elks Lodge, and a charter member of the Seminole Bass Club. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister Virginia Archer. Barr is survived by his wife, Mary Jo Barr of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Kaye Lynn Barr of Houston, Texas; two grandchildren, Robert Franklin Barr and Courtney Leigh Foerster and her husband Rick Foerster of Houston, Texas; and a great-grandson, Tyler Layne Foerster also of Houston. Pallbearers are listed as Greg Adams, Frank Carpenter, Buster Wilcox, Dennis Roesler, Phil Ryan and Rick Withrow. Honorary bearers are to be the members of the Seminole Bass Club.

Margaret ‘Pat’ Onstott

Margaret Izell “Pat” Garner Onstott died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001 at her home in Seminole at the age of 77. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel with Rusty Dawson officiating. Interment is to be at Little Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. She was born April 12, 1923 in Asher to L.A. Farley and Forence May (Robertson) Farley. Onstott married Loyde Daniel Garner in on Dec. 25, 1940 in Oil Center. He preceded her in death on May 23, 1972. She met Ray Onstott in May of 1974 and they had been companions until her death. Onstott was a member of the Church of Christ and a homemaker. She will be missed by all who knew her and loved her. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, eight sisters, and one brother. She is survived by her companion of the home; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two stepsons; two stepdaughters; 10 step grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers are listed as Garry Davis, Tommy Davis, Charles Cook, Terry Cook, Randy Vogan and Tommy Sanders. Honorary bearers are Timmy Davis, David Cook, and Charles Cook, Jr.

Marshall Pipkin

Funeral services for Little native Marshall Woodrow Pipkin, 84, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel with Rev. David Karges officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Little Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Pipkin died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2001 at Seminole Medical Center. He was born on Oct. 19, 1916 in Little to James L. Pipkin and Blanche Vera (Dunaway) Pipkin. He married Mildred Spurlock on June 6, 1940 in Norman. Pipkin received his law degree for the University of Oklahoma and was a member of the Oklahoma Bar Association and OU Fraternity Phi Kappa Alpha. During World War II, Pipkin served in the US Navy as a Yeoman Second Class. He was professor of training and education at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Miss. until his retirement in 1985. Pipkin was preceded in death by his wife on Jan. 12, 1994; two brothers, Jim Pipkin and Wade Pipkin; and two sisters, Jerva Anderson and Ruth Roberts. He is survived by two daughters, Marsha Everett of Memphis, Tenn. and Merilee Pipkin of Seminole; one sister, Frances Higgins of Norman; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Marie Helling

Funeral services for Marie M. Presley Helling of Seminole are scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel with Rev. Steve Cline officiating. Interment is to follow at Maple Grove Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Helling died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2001 at Seminole Estates Nursing Home at the age of 85. She was born on July 25, 1915 in Leonard, Ark. to Hugh and Lottie Williams. Helling moved to Seminole from Bruner, Ark. in 1931. She married Cecil Helling on April 9, 1955 in Seminole. Helling was a waitress at Pat’s Café for approximately five years and worked as a clerk at United Market for several years as well. She owned a restaurant in 1947 for several years. Helling attended Old Glory Assembly of God Church and enjoyed quilting. She made over 200 quilts during her life. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her first husband, Clifford Presley in September 1945. Helling is survived by her husband of Seminole; two sons, Fred Presley of Seminole, and Gene Presley of Edmond; two sisters, Myrtle Chambers and Lena Chambers, both of Eloy, Ariz.; three brothers, Earl Williams of Stockton, Calif., Carl Williams of Snowflake, Ariz., and James Williams of Dardanelle, Ark.; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Pallbearers are listed as Leon Short, Harold Presley, Bob Presley, Steve Parks, Tony Presley and Noble Hays. Honorary bearer is Gib Foster.

Betty Jones

Graveside services for Wewoka native and former Cromwell resident Betty Jane Jones are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at Little Cemetery under the direction of Stout Funeral Home of Wewoka. She died Monday, Jan. 22, 2001 in Pearland, Texas at the age of 51. Jones was born Nov. 21, 1949 in Wewoka to Loyd and Velma Morgan. She was reared in Cromwell where she attended school. Her father was a former mayor of Cromwell. Jones was a member of Sagemont Church for over 25 years. A Celebration of Life service was held Thursday in Pearland under the direction of South Park Funeral Home. Jones was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Carol Gibbs. She is survived by her husband, Stanley Jones; a son, Kerry Alan Jones; four sisters, Louise Morgan,LaDean Lasiter, Naomi O’Donnell, and Leann Morgan of Seminole; and one brother, Albert Morgan. The family asks that those desiring to make memorials to do so to the Crisis Pregnancy Center, 1028 Edgebrook, Houston, Texas 77034.

Ollie Banks

Funeral services for Cromwell area resident Ollie Olivia (King) Banks are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at Amos Temple Methodist Church in Boley. Burial is to be at the Banks Family Cemetery under the direction of Keller Funeral Chapel in Boley. She married Forrest Banks who preceded her in death.

Eva Lewis

Funeral services for longtime Konawa resident Eva Griffith Lewis are scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday at Pickard Chapel in Konawa with Rev. Charlie Henthorn officiating. Burial is to follow at Vamoosa Cemetery under the direction of Pickard Funeral Home of Konawa. Lewis died Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2001, at the age of 88. She was born on July 28, 1912 in Fox, Ark. to Betty (Branscum) and Alanthey Griffith. Lewis was a housewife and provider for 20 years who lived in the Konawa area since 1925. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Konawa. Lewis was preceded in death by one son, Henry Harms on Jan. 30, 1997. She is survived by three nieces and one nephew.

Iris McClead

Funeral services for Iris (Terhune) McClead, 90, were held Tuesday at Pentecostal Holiness Church with Rev. Claude Graham officiating. Interment followed at Holdenville Cemetery under the direction of Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home of Holdenville. McClead was born on Dec. 15, 1910 in Wells County, Indiana to Issac and Myra (Helton) Terhune. She was reared in the Turley area and she also attended Turley schools where she later graduated. She married Harold McClead on Aug. 20, 1929. She was a mother, housewife, and a homemaker. McClead was preceded in death by her husband in 1980; her parents; four brothers; and one sister. She is survived by one son; Jody McClead of Seoul, South Korea; five daughters, Claradean Doolen of Konawa, Carol Harrison of Sasakwa, Arlene Mathews of Konawa, Mary Kennedy Fleming of Apache, Joy McClead of Holdenville; one sister Lola Cranor of Bartlesville; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Myrtle Scott

Longtime Seminole County resident, Myrtle Adkins Scott, died Friday, Jan. 19, 2001 at Seminole Estates Nursing Home at the age of 88. Graveside services were held Monday at Holdenville Cemetery with Rev. David Karges presiding under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Scott was born Sept. 28, 1912 in Holdenville to Eugene Darcus Williams and John Emma (McGuire) Williams. She married Obie F. Scott on Dec. 23, 1938 in Wewoka. He preceded her in death on Dec. 12, 2000. She was a beauty operator in Seminole County for many years. Scott was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Seminole and an active participant in the Heritage House Senior Citizens Center. She was also preceded in death by her parents. Scott is survived by two nephews, Billy Owen Scott and Charles Scott; and two nieces, Judy Harrison of Collinsville, and Frankie Smith of Katy, Texas.
