Carrie Smith

Graveside services for longtime Seminole County resident Carrie Velma Smith, 87, are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Friday at Oakwood Cemetery in Wewoka with Jerry States officiating. Burial will be under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. She died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2001, at University Hospital in Oklahoma City. Smith was born on Feb. 5, 1913 in Wewoka to Albert and Lillie (McCowen) Danielson. She married Bob Smith in Wewoka. Smith worked at Pioneer Nursing Home for 14 years and Seminole Municipal Hospital for 10 years, retiring in 1988. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on April 20, 1985; one brother John Danielson; and one sister, Lillie Enos. Smith is survived by one brother, O.A. Danielson of Seminole; and three sisters, Marie Ehrlich of Seminole, Dean Freeman of Midwest City, and Betty Freeman of Shawnee. Casket bearers are listed as Don Wills, Bob Hale, Larry Freeman, Bobby Freeman, Jack Freeman, and Danny Danielson.

Virgle Burleson

Seminole County native Virgle Red Burleson died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001 at Vencor Hospital in Oklahoma City at the age of 86. Funeral services were held Monday at the Stout Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Meredith Robinson officiating. Interment took place at Little Cemetery under the direction of Stout Funeral Home in Wewoka. Burleson was born Sept. 1, 1914 to Mark and Clora Burleson in Seminole County. He lived in the Okemah area until he moved to Wewoka in 1951 where he continued to reside until his death. Burleson worked for Seminole County until he retired in 1978. He was a resident of Wewoka Nursing Center. Burleson was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Tillman Burleson, Houston Burleson, and Walter P. Burleson; and three sisters, Billie Burleson, Flosie Burleson, and Velma West. He is survived by Eulala Hester of Louisville, Ken.; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Zachariah Harrison

Zachariah Xanthus Bronza Harrison, the infant son of Jessica Harrison of Wewoka and Stephan Williams of Tulsa, died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000. He was born on Dec. 30, 2000 at Mission Hill Hospital in Shawnee. Graveside services were held 2 p.m. Saturday at Harrison-Tiger Cemetery with Rev. Dan Factor officiating. Services were under the direction of Stout Funeral Home of Wewoka. Harrison was preceded in death by his great-grandparents, Grover Harrison and Judy Tiger. He is survived by his parents; his grandparents, Willie and Wanda Bruner of Wewoka; one sister, Iesha Rashae Harrison of the home; and other relatives.

Robert Guess

Funeral services for former Sasakwa resident Robert Guess are scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church of Wewoka with Rev. Alec Burgess of Seminole Baptist Church officiating. Wake services are scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Myers Mortuary. Visitation is to be on Tuesday. Burial is to be at Seminole Baptist Church Cemetery under the direction of Myers Mortuary of Wewoka. Guess died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001 at Presbyterian Hospital at the age of 87. He was born May 14, 1913 in Hugo to Johnny and Victoria (Cooks) Guess. Guess married Rosetta Osborne in 1935. He lived in Sasakwa from 1942 to 1994. He left Sasakwa for Maryland and returned to Oklahoma in 1995 and resided in Del City. Guess was a deacon at Seminole Baptist Church and a farmer. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one daughter, Lucille Guess; one son, Benny Guess; three brothers; and three sisters. Guess is survived by two daughters, Madge Guess Roberts of Midwest City and Loretta Guess of Oklahoma City; one son, Sherman Guess of Oklahoma City; three sisters, Annie Quillen of Hugo, and Olivia Lewis and Madge Grayson, both of Oklahoma City; 13 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Lois Sullivan

Word was just received of the death of Lois Mary Sullivan of Wewoka. Funeral services were held Dec. 26, 2000 at Stout Funeral Home Chapel in Wewoka with Rev. Delmar Hume officiating. Interment was postponed due to inclement weather until Friday, Dec. 29, 2000. A private family burial at Oakwood Cemetery was conducted under the direction of Stout Funeral Home. Sullivan, a longtime resident of Tulsa, died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000 at Shawnee Regional Hospital at the age of 87. She was born on April 3, 1913 in Bear-Garland County, Ark. to Jim and Mertie S. (Gillham) Keys. Sullivan was reared in the Arkansas area and later moved to Oklahoma at the age of 13. She received her formal education from Sam Schools. On Aug. 17, 1936, she married Elmer E. Sullivan in Holdenville. He preceded her in death in 1984. In 1999, Sullivan moved to Wewoka after living in Tulsa most of her life. She was a member of South Lakewood Missionary Baptist Church in Tulsa and a member of the Rebekah Lodge of Tulsa. In addition to her husband, Sullivan was preceded in death by her parents; her step-mother, Roxie Keys; and four brothers, Milton Keys, Luther Keys, Roy Houser, and H.C. Keys. She is survived by one stepdaughter, Sharon Trevino of Lake Elnsnore, Calif.; two sisters, Ernestene Payne and Mayda Factor, both of Wewoka; three brothers, W.K. Houser of Ulysses, Kan., Clifton Houser of Wewoka, and Leslie Houser of Dennison, Texas; three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and many friends. Pallbearers were Tommy Nichols, Wayne Long, Dennis Myers, Michael Peercy, Dan Houser, and Butch Houser.

Sherlyn Moore

Funeral services for Konawa resident Sherlyn Sue Moore, 50, are scheduled for 1 p.m. Monday at Vamoosa Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Green officiating and Rev. LeRoy Sommers assisting. Burial will follow at Lone Dove Cemetery under the direction of Pickard Funeral Home of Konawa. Moore died Thursday, Jan. 4, 2001 at Norman. She was born May 19, 1950 in Garden City, Kan. to Verneta M. and Thomas E. Jones. She married Charles Moore in Garden City, Kan. on Jan. 19, 1969. Moore was a horse trainer. She is survived by her husband of the home; one daughter, Kelly Gill of Sallisaw; one son Bud Moore of Konawa; her parents; two sisters, Barbara Fief and Debby Wright, both of Garden City, Kan.; one granddaughter; and a number of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers are listed as Melvin Burris, Stacy Barnes, Kevin Newberry, Randy Heard, Curtis Ligon, and Jay Toney. Honorary pallbearers are Jake Wilson and Justin Haywood. The family asks those wishing to make memorials to do so to the grandchildren education fund in memory of Sherlyn Moore at Pontotoc County Bank.

Clarence ‘Peewee’ Turner

Clarence Clayton “Peewee” Turner, a longtime Seminole resident, died Thursday, Jan. 4, 2001 at Seminole Medical Center at the age of 91. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel with Revs. Allen Wood and Robert Cocke officiating. Burial is to be at Maple Grove Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. Turner was born on Dec. 23, 1909 in Wayside to A.C. Turner and Margaret Jeanetta (Gahlar) Turner. He attended Garber schools in Garber. Turner married Essie Juanita Magruder on Feb. 6, 1933 in Seminole. He was a member of Freewill Baptist Church in Wolf and had worked for Lane Wells Corporation until it was purchased by Dresser Atlas Corporation. He retired in 1975 after 33 years of service. Turner was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and one sister. He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Raymond Dean and Catherine Turner of Guthrie; one daughter and son-in-law, Glenda and Ronnie Conner of Seminole; seven grandchildren, Ricky and Tammy Conner of Seminole; Trace and Shelly Conner of Seminole; Teri Smith of Edmond, Jan Webb and Kevin Mail of Guthrie; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Thorea Ramsey

Funeral services for the mother of a Semiole resident, Thorea Jane Ramsey, 75, of Oklahoma City, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday in the Bill Merritt Memorial Chapel in Bethany. Don Nobles is to officiate with John Bartosh assisting. Ramsey died Thursday, Jan. 4, 2001. She was born May 5, 1925 in Redfield, Kan. to Mack and Edna (Smith) Comstock. She married Clarence Eugene “Red” Ramsey on May 5, 1943 in Fort Scott, Kan. Ramsey first moved to Oklahoma City in June of 1949. In 1974, she moved to Wewoka and returned to Oklahoma City in 1995. She is survived by her husband of the home; three daughters, Ronda Hill of Seminole, Susan Zimmerman of Yukon, and Debbie Licastro of Oklahoma; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Pallbearers are listed as Tony Licastro, John Licastro, Jeff Godwin, Darby Hill, Toby Renfro, and Dave Hill. Honorary pallbearers will be Phillip Thomas and Chester Hale.

Eleanor Dixon

Funeral services for Eleanor Kay Dixon, 19, granddaughter and niece of several Seminole residents, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel. Walter C. Leaver III will officiate at the services. Interment will follow at Little Cemetery. Dixon died in a fatality collision in Love County on Sunday. She was born Sept. 12, 1981 in Dallas to Joe Edward Dixon Jr. and Suzanne (England) Dixon. Dixon graduated from Ft. Worth Christian High School in 2000, and was a freshman student at Oklahoma Christian University in Oklahoma City, majoring in occupational therapy. She was a member of the Church of Christ, Beta Beta Sigma sorority, Drama and was known for her smile. Survivors include her mother, of Oklahoma City, her father, of Nashville; two sisters, Erin Dixon, and Emily Dixon, both of Oklahoma City; aunt and uncle, Steve and Kay Lashley, Seminole, uncle Richard England, Tulsa; cousins Jay and Laura Lashley, both of Seminole; grandparents Idus and Winifred England, Seminole, Anne and Walter Leaver, Nashville, and Joe Dixon Sr., Las Vegas; and a host of other friends and family. Casket bearers are listed as classmates and family members.

Judy Tiger

Funeral services for lifelong Seminole County resident Judy Sarkitchee Harrison Tiger, 75, are scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday at Akasvmkv Baptist Church in Wewoka. Revs. Dan Factor and Larry Chesser will officiate at the services. Wiley King will serve as traditional speaker. Interment will follow at Harrison-Tiger cemetery in Wewoka under the direction of Stout Funeral Home. She was taken to Akasvmkv Baptist Church at 4 p.m. today, to prepare for an all-night wake, beginning at 8 p.m. Tiger died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000 at Elmwood Manor Nursing Home. She was born Feb. 11, 1925 in Seminole County to Parnosa and Minnie (Leitka) Sarkitchee. Tiger received her education from Bowlegs Schools. She was married to Grover Harrison; he preceded her in death. Tiger also married Wilson Tiger, whom also preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two sons, Buddy Harrison and Raymond Harrison, two daughters, Laverne Harrison and Liza Harrison, two grandchildren and one great-grandson. Survivors include eight sons, Eugene Harrison, Leroy Harrison, Richard Harrison, Thomas Harrison and Raymond Harrison, all of Wewoka, George Harrison and James Harrison of Texas and Willie Harrison of Muscle Shoals, Ala.; and two daughters, Patricia Harrison, Norman, and Wanda Bruner, Wewoka. Also surviving her are 44 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. Pallbearers are listed as Willie Bruner, Kenneth Williams, Johnny Gosson, Rod Daniels, Harlen Moses and Ramiro Navajar.

Rudy Pfeiffer

Rudy Pfeiffer, a Maud resident, died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000 at Mission Hill Hospital in Shawnee at the age of 93. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Baptist Church in Maud. Burial is to be at Cummings Cemetery under the direction of Knight Funeral Home. He was born on Nov. 23, 1907 in Bookeuau, Germany to Mr. and Mrs. John Pfeiffer. Pfeiffer owned and operated Wilcox Auto Supply in Maud for several years. He was then employed at Seminole Auto Supply where he retired in 1994. He married Clara bell Pointer on Aug. 9, 1931 at Sacred Heart. She preceded him in death on March 3, 1986. He then married Jean (Holt) Hamm on July 2, 1990 in Seminole. Pfeiffer was preceded in death by his parents; and two half sisters. He is survived by his wife of the home; two sons, Rudy Joe Pfeiffer of Neosho, Mo., and Rod Pfeiffer of Newalla; one daughter, Barbara Lang of Seminole; one sister, Lucy Peitz of Germany; a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Evelyn Woodard

Funeral services for Seminole County native, Evelyn Mary (Sullinger) Woodard, 80, were held Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2001 at First Assembly of God Church in Bowlegs with Rev. Roy Robertson officiating. Burial followed at Little Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. She died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000 at Parkland Manor Care Center in Prague. Woodard was born April 16, 1920 to William Robert Sullinger and Dora Belle (Sims) Sullinger in Bowlegs. She married Melvin Woodard in 1964. Woodard was a supervisor for Sungarden Cannery where she worked for 25 years. She retired in 1969. She returned to Seminole County from San Jose, Calif. in 1970. Woodard was a member of Assembly of God Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Jack O’Dell; and her second husband, Melvin Woodard in 1968. Woodard is survived by two brothers Clint Sullinger of Bowlegs, and Robert Sullinger; four sisters, Dorothy Everett of Al Viso, Calif., Lucille Rains of Bakersfield, Calif., Opal Northcott of Salinas, Calif., and Bernice Cross of Bowlegs; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Casket bearers are listed as Richard Melton, Jerry Streets, Clifford Stafford, George Glenn, and Kevin Glenn.

Olive ‘Lady of the Lake’ McIntyre

Olive Lee Francis “Lady of the Lake” McIntyre died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000 at Presbyterian Hospital in Oklahoma City at the age of 80. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2001, at Swearingen Chapel with Rowdy Kincade and Johnny Hinton officiating. Burial was at Little Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home. She was born Sept. 19, 1920 in Malden, Mo. to Oscar Dennis Vails and Ann Hicks (Moorhead) Vails. McIntyre graduated from Bowlegs High School in 1938. She was a beautician and homemaker. She was a devoted mother who served wit the PTA. McIntyre was a political activist and ran for the Oklahoma State Senate. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Wewoka, Rebecca Lodge and of CB clubs. McIntyre was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Van Francis in 1968; her second husband, Mac Gene “Sailor” McIntyre on Jan. 14, 1992; and three brothers. She is survived by one daughter, Sharon Cole of Austin, Texas; one brother, Jim Vails of Oklahoma City, three grandchildren. The family asks that those desiring to make memorials do so to the charity of their choice.
