Maggie Griffin

Funeral services for longtime Seminole resident Maggie "Nanny" Griffin are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel.

Rev. Allen Wood will officiate the services.

Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Griffin passed away Monday, Oct. 21, 2002 at Select Specialty Hospital in Oklahoma City at the age of 84.

She was born to Jonas Jackson and Nellie (Kelough) Jackson on March 12, 1918 in Stigler.

She was married to Charlie Griffin for 69 years, and was a homemaker.

Griffin was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one daughter, Maudie Coffey; four sisters; four brothers and three grandchildren.

She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Charlene and R.G. Talamasey, Seminole; one stepson, Foy Wayne Griffin, Sacramento, Calif.; a son-in-law, Art Coffey, Seminole; Grandchildren, Michelle and Bruce Fields, Moore, Melinda and Wayne Timmons, Kimberly Talamasey and Coz Gorman, Ruban Talamasey, Tammy Talamasey, Shawna Talamasey, Jeremiah Talamasey and Brendan Talamasey, all of Seminole; Great-grandchildren, Heather Parsons and Jerad Fields, Moore, James and Rachael Timmons, Justice and Katevce Talamasey, Zachary and Jordan Talamasey, and Shaine Talamasey, all of Seminole, and Damien Hobia, Wetumka.

Casketbearers are James Timmons, Ruban Talamasey, Jeremiah Talamasey, Jerad Fields, Gerald Pickett and John Lofton.

Honorary bearers are Brendan Talamasey, Coz Gorman, Wayne Timmons, Bruce Fields and Leroy Mitchell.

Velva Opal Griffin

Graveside funeral services for former Seminole resident Velva Opal Griffin are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens.

Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Griffin died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2002 at OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City at the age of 88.

She was born Feb. 18, 1913 in Baldknob, Ark. to William and Sarah Meredith.

She married Howard Edward Griffin in Baldknob, Ark.

Griffin was a home provider for the elderly and took care of over 50 foster children.

She attended Penn West Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Griffin is survived by her step-mother, Blanchie Gist of Ft. Smith, Ark.; her husband of the home; one son, Marvin Griffin of Seminole; two daughters, LaJuana DeLoach of Seminole and Anita Williamson of Holdenville; one sister, Juanita Wallace of Baldknob, Ark.; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and numerous great-great grandchildren.

Honorary bearers are Dennis Beckett, Gary Griffin, Roy Griffin, Kevin Griffin, Mike Arthur, and Tim Miner.

Victoria ‘Nud’ Gross

Funeral services for Victoria Edwards "Nud" Brothers Gross are scheduled for 1 p.m. Monday at the Macedonia Baptist Church in Wewoka.

Interment is to follow in Lima Cemetery under the direction of Temple and Sons Funeral Directors, Inc.

Gross died Tuesday, April 23, 2002 at the age of 88.

She was born June 5, 1913 in Wellston to Rev. John Floyd and Mahalia Edwards.

The family moved to Lima.

Gross was a member of the Mount Zion Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School.

She was known as "Nud" or "Auntie Nuddy" to her family and "Grandma" to her students.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Eloise.

Gross is survived by one daughter, Ceola of Oklahoma City; one brother, John Floyd of Chattanooga, Tenn.; two sister, Pearl Hill and Ruby Osborn, both of Oklahoma City; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Lyda Guinn

Funeral services for Lyda Hermita (Chilcoat) Guinn are scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church of Maud.

Rev. John Kirk is set to officiate.

Burial is to follow at Cummings Cemetery under the direction of Knight-Swearingen Funeral Home.

Guinn died Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2002 at Wilson N. Jones Regional Health in Sherman, Texas.

She was born May 17, 1925 in Haileyville to Tom and Alma Smith.

She married Byrd Argie Guinn Jr. on Dec. 21, 1943 in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Guinn was a homemaker and a member of Trinity Baptist Church of Maud.

She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and various military wives’ organizations throughout the world.

She traveled with her husband, who served in the United State Air Force for over 25 years.

They lived in 22 states and Japan for two years.

Guinn was preceded in death by her parents and one daughter, Lorna Guinn Mitcham.

She is survived by her husband of the home; one daughter, Gwen Henderson of Denison, Texas; six grandchildren; six great-grandchidren; and one sister, LaVonia LaVelle of Sherman, Texas.

Casket bearers are to be Dennis Martin, Steve Hagan, Don Jordan, Darrie Fesperman, and Darrell Rickerson.

Honorary bearers are Jerry Henderson, Lance Guinn, Jerry Guinn, and Willard Brock.

Darlene Hair

Funeral services for Darlene Hair are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Church of Christ in Wewoka.

Johnnie Hinton is set to officiate.

Interment is to follow at Oakwood Cemetery under the direction of Stout Funeral Home.

Hair died March 25 in Shawnee at the age of 69.

She was born May 10, 1932 in Seminole to Rex and Dessie Ott Stewart.

During World War II, her family moved to Pryor, where she attended grade school.

After the war was over, Hair and her family moved to Wewoka, where she attended secondary school.

On Dec. 25, 1947, she married Toby Hair.

After her children began school, she worked in the Wewoka School cafeteria.

Hair retired in 1988 after 22 years.

During the same time, she and her husband were kitchen manager and cook at the Holdenville Elks Lodge and later with the Seminole Elks Lodge, where Hair was currently employed.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

She is survived by two sons, Donny Hair of Shawnee and Danny Hair of Oklahoma City; one daughter, Dee Dee Hair of Wewoka; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two sisters, Shirley Huser of Weatherford and Betty Jones of Oklahoma City; and one brother, J.R. Stewart of Ada.

Pallbearers are Jim Glasco, Dan Wallace, Ken Taylor, Doug Shipman, Kenny Pryor and Jim Morgan.

Clayton Hale

Funeral services for Longtime Maud resident Clayton B. Hale are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Assembly of God Church in Maud.

Revs. Tim Martin and Wesley Martin will officiate the services.

Burial will follow at Cummings Cemetery, under the direction of Knight-Swearingen Funeral Home of Maud.

Hale died Saturday, Oct. 12, 2002 at his home in Maud at the age of 91.

He was born to Leroy Hale and Amanda Ella (Layton) Hale on Sept. 29, 1911 in Whitesboro, Texas.

Hale married Hazel Mae Arnold on Feb. 4, 1933 in Maud.

Hale was a railroad worker who retired after 50 years of service.

He worked for the O.C.A.&A. Railroad, the KATY Railroad, and the Santa Fe.

Hale also worker as a civilian employee during World War II laying all railroad tracks at Tinker Air Force Base.

He was a member of the Assembly of God Church, and a member of the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees.

Hale was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Henry, Pat, Fred, O.B., and Carlton; two sisters, Clearinda and Beulah; and three children, Ima Mae Hale, Donald Ray Hale, and Dennis Vernon Hale.

He is survived by his wife, Hazel M. Hale, of the home; one son, Dr. Ron Hale, Woodside, Calif.; two daughters, Fern Blain, Bakersfield, Calif., and Linda Martin, Maud; one brother, Lemuel Hale, Maud; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Steven Blain, Rob Hale, David Hale, Timmy Harper, Jerry Hayden and Luther Martin.

Kathryn Hall

Graveside funeral services for Kathryn Virginia Hall are scheduled for 1 p.m. Tuesday at Skyview Memorial Lawn, Vallejo, Calif., under the direction of the Skyview funeral home.

Hall died Wednesday, July 10, 2002, at her home in San Jose at the age of 75.

She was born Aug. 22, 1926, in Madill. She moved to San Jose nine months ago from Placerville, where she had lived the last 30 years.

She was a homemaker and past president of the VFW Ladies’ Auxiliary Post 2680, past president of the Pinecones, Shiners and TOPS.

She was the much-loved wife of John Deen Hall for 57 years and the loving mother of two daughters and two sons.

She is survived by her husband, of the home; daughters, Brenda Kay Hoover and Fay Zacarias, both of San Jose; sons Johnny Wayne Hall of Los Angeles, and James Carroll Hall, Oakland; two sisters, Lucille Carter, Wewoka, and Gladys Boucher, Saratoga, Calif.; two brothers, Clarence "Red" Craddock, Lafayetta, La., and Marvin Craddock, Kingville, Mo.

She is survived by four grandchildren, Veronica Michelle Zacarias, Annabelle Hall, Michael James Sousa, Dean Forrest Hutchinson and Rhonda Ann Dolcini; and six great-grandchildren, Ashley Nicole Sousa, Tyler Dean Sousa, Jake Forrest Hutchinson, Draeden Anthony Hall, Jennifer Ann and Nicolette Marie Dolcini.

The family requests memorial contributions be sent to the American Cancer Society, Solano Units, 1652 W. Texas Street, Suite 110, Fairfield, Calif. 94533.
