Cora Belle Mathews

Graveside services for longtime Cromwell resident Cora Belle Mathews were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Little Cemetery, under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Rev. Chris Stinnett officiated the services.

Mathews died Monday, July 15, 2002 at Wewoka Nursing Center at the age of 99.

She was born to J.W. Lovin and Dora (Shipp) Lovin on Feb. 15, 1903 in Dabrey, Ark.

Mathews had lived in Cromwell since 1962, and was a homemaker, and worked at the Dodson Cafeteria in Oklahoma City.

She was a member of the Church of Christ in Cromwell.

Mathews is survived by two daughters, Patricia Harper, Cromwell, and Bernice Wilson, Tecumseh; one brother, Clyde Lovin, Konawa; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Reather Mathews

Funeral services for Reather Mae Mathews are scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday at St. Paul Baptist Church.

Rev. Sterling Mitchel is set to officiate.

Interment is to follow at Westwood Cemetery under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home.

Mathews died Monday, May 13, 2002 at the age of 85.

She was born Sept. 21, 1916 in Hugo to Ollie and Hattie Colbert Smith.

She grew up in Boley and attended school at Boley and Douglas High School.

Mathews accepted Christ at an early age while a member of C.M.E. Church in Boley.

She moved to Wewoka in 1935 and received her degree in practical nursing.

She met and married Eddie Mathews in 1938 and they moved to Berkley, Calif. in 1942.

They were married for 37 years when he preceded her in death 1975.

Mathews returned to Oklahoma and continued her nursing vocation until she retired due to health reasons.

She worked on the board of the Community Housing Association for Rehabilitation in Shawnee until her retirement.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Rosella Parker; and one brother, Emmitt Smith.

Mathews is survived by one brother, Eddie Smith.

Pallbearers are Eddie G. Smith Jr., Gary Smith, Tonny R. Smith, Terry W. Smith, Lindell E. Smith, and Richard E. Smith.

Honorary pallbearers are Clyde Spencer, Anderson Watterson, Alphonzo Stevenson, AL Roberts, Milford Roberts, and James Washington.

Roger Maupin

Graveside services for Maud resident Roger Lee Maupin are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday in New Franklin, Mo.

Services will be under the direction of Markland-Gardner Funeral Home in New Franklin, Mo.

Maupin died Wednesday, June 19, 2002 at his home in Maud at the age of 70.

He was born to Lee Maupin and Nellie (Jackson) Maupin on March 29, 1932 in Fayette, Mo.

Maupin married Lurlie Ann Sockey on Sept. 4, 1996 in Arkansas.

He moved to Maud three years ago from Allen.

Maupin was a retired construction worker, and a veteran of the U.S. Army.

He was of Baptist faith.

Maupin was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

He is survived by his wife, Lurlie Ann Sockey, of the home; five sons, Roger Gene, Rick, Doug, Rusty and Darryl Maupin, all of Missouri; one daughter, Denise Maupin of Missouri; one stepson, Thomas Sockey, Maud; two stepdaughters, Alice Dorrough, St. Louis, OK, and Sandy Farmer of Washington; three brothers, Raymond, Donald and Jimmy Maupin, all of Missouri; two sisters, Norma Robertson and Darlene, both of Missouri; and numerous grandchildren.

Peggy Maylen

Peggy Lorraine Maylen, of Wewoka, was born Sept. 7, 1942, in Pharoah, and left this earth on Aug. 8, 2002.

One of eleven children born to Arthur "Ott" and Imogene (DeArmond) Sallee, Peggy was known for her kind heart and easy smile.

On July 2, 1959, Peggy married William Charles Maylen at Hilltop Presbyterian Church in Wewoka.

Peggy enjoyed reading, old movies and spending time with her family.

None of the Sallee or Maylen family gatherings were complete until Peg poured up her famous "Wewoka Tea".

Over the years she worked as a nurse’s aide at Wewoka Municipal Hospital; a waitress at Morgan’s Mug; and in the cutting room at Big Yank and Custom Size.

Most recently she was employed at Elmwood Manor Nursing Home.

She is survived by her husband, Charles, of the home; three sons and their wives, Keith and April Maylen, Shawnee, DeWayne and Becky Maylen, Holdenville, and Danny and Valerie Maylen, Wetumka; one daughter, DeAnna Maylen, of the home; three brothers, Kenneth Sallee, Wewoka; Bill Sallee, Waldron, Arkansas, and David Sallee, Holts Summit, Missouri; seven sisters, Shirley Williams and Lucy Sallee, Waldon, Arkansas, JoAnn Dowdy, Stroud, Pat Johnson and Karla Carroll, Drumright, Glenda Condict, Cromwell, and Terry Harrell, Canute.

She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, one great granddaughter, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ott and Imogene Sallee and one infant son.

Funeral services are to be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 10, 2002, at Stout-Phillips Chapel, with Reverend Larry Chesser officiating.

Peggy’s nephews will serve as pallbearers and burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, under the direction of the Stout-Phillips Funeral Home.

Alene McAnulty

Funeral services for Maud resident Alene McAnulty are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Trinity Baptist Church in Maud.

Rev. Tim Martin will officiate the services.

Burial will follow at the Connerville Cemetery in Connerville under the direction of Knight-Swearingen Funeral Home of Maud.

McAnulty died Monday, Jan. 14, 2002 in Oklahoma City at the age of 84.

She was born to William Alexander Raines and Martha (Horton) Raines on Feb. 12, 1917 in Connerville.

McAnulty worked for Trippet Shoes in Tulsa for 24 years.

After moving to Maud, she worked as dispatcher for the Maud police Department for many years.

She was a member of the Atoka First Baptist Church in Atoka.

McAnulty was also a charter member of the Eastern Star in Weirton, W.Va., and was active at the Maud Senior Citizens for many years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters; and five brothers.

McAnulty is survived by one daughter, Darlene Reed, Waxahachie, Texas; three sons, Jack Roberts, Robert McAnulty and James McAnulty, all of Tulsa; 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Casket bearers are Bill Norman, Luster Heffley, Merle Harper, Raymond Taylor, Lemual Hale, Buck Day, and Faren Coody.

Arvy ‘Clay’ McCause

Funeral services with military honors for Arvy ‘Clay’ McCause, father of Wewoka resident Diane Chesser, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Criswell Funeral Home Chapel in Ada.

Rev. George Carson will officiate the services.

Interment will follow at the Memorial park Cemetery in Ada, under the direction of Criswell Funeral Home.

McCause died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2002 at Holdenville General Hospital at the age of 75.

He was born to Fletcher David McCause and Ella Jane (Martin) McCause on Jan. 11, 1927 in Tishomingo.

McCause attended and graduated from Vanoss High School.

He also attended East Central University.

McCause married Beverly Yvonne Bower on August 3, 1952.

He was a sales representative for Albert Equipment in Tulsa, calling on Southwest Oklahoma, retiring after 40 years of service.

McCause was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.

He was a Mason, and a member of the Chamber of Commerce in Ada since the 1970s.

McCause served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly; three sisters, Agnes McCause, Gladys Farr, and Velma Lane; and one brother, Raymond McCause.

McCause is survived by two daughters, Diana Chesser, Wewoka and Christy Boggs, Pryor; one son, Clay ‘Junior’ McCause, Jr., Oklahoma City; one brother, Harlice McCause, Dumas, Texas; one sister, Jeri Akard, O’Donnell, Texas; and five grandchildren.

Pallbearers are Carl Wages, Barry Bess, T.L. Carter, Kevin Manuel, Larry Woods, and Chris Henry.

Honorary bearers are Vaskon White, Billy Joe Woods, Kenneth Matthews, Robert Chesser, Steve Boggs, and Harold Marler.

Leon M. McClain

Funeral services for Leon M. McClain are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at Pickard-Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel.

Rev. Mitch Williams is set to officiate.

Burial is to follow at Vamoosa Cemetery under the direction of Pickard-Swearingen Funeral Home.

McClain died Wednesday, April 10, 2002 at Valley View Regional Hospital at the age of 72.

He was born June 13, 1929 in Hazel to James Monroe and Mary Fink McClain.

He married Ernestine "Nina" Lujan in 1975 in Los Angeles, Calif.

McClain retired as a truck driver from Rollins Oil Co. in 1994.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, James McClain Jr.

He is survived by his wife of the home; four daughters, Phyllis Kemper of Visalia, Calif, Janice Opal of Madera, Calif., Sherry Blakley of Bakersfield, Calif., and Linda Elliott of Konawa; one son, Dennis McClain of Byng; three stepchildren, Tanis Gonzales, Manuel Gonzales and Angel Chandler; four sisters, Estelle Stephenson and Jean Norman, both of Bakersfield, Calif., Reva Taylor of Konawa, and Virginia Welcher of Ada; one brother, Hershel McClain of Ada; 22 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
