Elmer B. Myrick

DEL CITY – Funeral services for Elmer B. Myrick were scheduled for 2 p.m. today at Sooner Road Baptist Church.

Burial was to follow in Sunnylane Cemetery under the direction of Eisenhour Funeral Home.

Myrick died Saturday, May 25, 2002 in Midwest City at the age of 73.

He was born May 2, 1929 in Milo to John and Geneva (Brown) Myrick.

He attended school at Bowlegs High School.

Myrick was employed with Tinker Air Force Base for 42 years before retiring in 1993.

He was preceded in death by his father and one sister, Pauline (Myrick) Beach.

He is survived by his mother; his wife, Benita; one daughter, Cathy; one son, Michael; three brothers, Dick Myrick and Deairl Myrick, both of Seminole, and Johnny Myrick of Oklahoma City.

Edith (Rhodd) Nave

Funeral services for Edith Fustana (Rhodd) Nave are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Father Mathew Brown, O.S.B., is set to officiate.

Burial is to follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Nave died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002 at her home southwest of Maud at the age of 88.

She was born Jan. 12, 1914 in Sacred Heart to John Baptist and Adeline (Thrope) Rhodd.

She married Hooley Allen Nave on March 2, 1938 in Tulsa.

He preceded Nave in death on Jan. 16, 1995.

She was a homemaker, and worked for a tire company for 15 years and in aeronautics for 10 years.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Sacred Heart Alter Society, and the Sacred Heart Potawatomi Organization.

Nave was also a member of the Potawatomi, Sac and Fox, and Kickapoo Tribes.

She was enrolled as Citizen Potawatomi.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; and one sister, Zoe Hazel Williamson.

Nave is survived by one son, Allison Hooley Nave of Maud; three daughters, Carole Patricia Nave of Washington, and Marie Nave Tredway and Arlene Rosette Nave Bush, both of Maud; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; one brother, Frank E. Rhodd of Konawa; five sisters, Viola Rhodd Allen of Asher, Eva Rhodd Jordan and Johnnie mae Rhodd Tallbear, both of St. Louis, and Cleda Rhodd Curley and Charlotee Rhodd Anderson, both of Maud.

Helen Nease

Funeral services for Helen Elizabeth Nease, sister of Konawa resident Lawrence Hinman, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday at the Crossings Community Church, located at 14600 North Portland in Oklahoma City.

Rev. Steve Seaton will officiate the services.

Burial will follow at Little Cemetery, under the direction of Vondel L. Smith and Son Mortuary North of Oklahoma City.

Nease died Tuesday, June 18, 2002 in Oklahoma City at the age of 78.

She was born to Jessie E. Higgins and Wilbur Hinman on Sept. 6, 1923 in Henryetta.

Nease married Karl Winford on July 3, 1980 in Bridgeview, and the couple made their home in Shawnee for the past 36 years.

She was a homemaker, and a member of the Baptist Church in Shawnee, and the Order of Eastern Star.

Nease is survived by her husband, Karl, of the home; two sons, David McCormick, Juneau, Ark., and Gene W. McCormick, Tulsa; four daughters, Beverly Coon, Edmond, Valerie McCormick, Juneau, Ark., Lynda Sibel, Oklahoma City, and Jamie Nease, St. Petersburg, Fla.; one brother, Lawrence Hinman, Konawa; three sisters, Verna Thronbrough, Ruth Phenix, and Lynda Johnston; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Helen Nease

Funeral services for former Seminole resident and business owner Helen Elizabeth Nease, were held today at the Crossings Community Church in Oklahoma City.

Rev. Steve Seaton officiated the services.

Burial followed at Little Cemetery, under the direction of Vondel L. Smith and Son Mortuary of Oklahoma City.

Helen passed away on Tuesday, June 18, 2002.

She was born on Sept. 6, 1923 in Henryetta, and was the eldest of 11 children born to Wilbur and Jessie Hinman.

She graduated from Mountain View High School, east of Seminole, where she was valedictorian of the 1942 graduating class.

In addition to her academic accomplishments, Helen was an active member of the girl’s basketball team and the Mountain View High School band.

She attended college at the University of Tulsa before beginning work at Douglas Aircraft during World War II.

Helen married Eugene R. McCormick on Sept. 11, 1948, and spent many of her early married years in San Bernadino, Calif.

In 1966, she and her family returned to the Shawnee area where she has resided for the past 36 years.

In addition to being a homemaker for her five children, Helen also worked in the floral industry for a number of years.

She was the owner and operator of Parkview Florist in Seminole before retiring in the mid-1980’s.

In 1979, Helen became reacquainted with Karl W. Nease with whom she has corresponded and became friends with during his service in the U.S. Navy.

On July 3, 1980, Helen and Karl were married at Bridgeview on Lake Texoma.

They enjoyed 22 years of friendship, love, and marriage before her death.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Wilbur and Jessie Hinman; brothers Jack, Dean, Leon,Ted, and Marshall Hinman; and one sister, Margaret Hinman.

She is survived by her husband, Karl Nease, of the home; two sons, Dr. Eugene W. McCormick and wife Bonnie, Tulsa, and David O. McCormick, Juneau, Alaska.; three daughters, Beverly Coon and Husband Bryan, Edmond, Valerie J. McCormick, Juneau, Alaska, and Jamie L. Nease, St. Petersburg, Fla.

Grandchildren include Corey McCormick, Wendy McCormick and Dr. Randy McCormick, Tulsa, Brian Shawn, Shawnee, Brandon and Brittany Coon, Edmond, Jeremy, Emily, and Jacob Langkiet, Juneau, Alaska, Joe and Christine Nease, Albuquerque, N.M., and Cory and Megan Nettles of Yukon.

Helen is also survived by stepchildren K.O. Nease and his wife Toni of Arizona, Joe Nease of Florida; and siblings Lawrence Hinman, Konawa, Verna Thornbrugh, Madill, Ruth Phenix, Edmond, and Lynda Johnston, Houston, Texas; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Helen will be remembered for her love of family and friends, sense of humor, and devotion to her Christian faith.

Wilma Neil

Funeral services for Wilma Jewell Neil are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Freewill Baptist Church in Wewoka.

Rev. Mike Kirby is set to officiate.

Interment is to follow at Holdenville Cemetery under the direction of Stout Funeral Home.

Neil died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2001 at Elmwood Nursing Home in Wewoka at the age of 82.

She was born Jan. 4, 1919 in Seminole County to U.S. Allen and Ida Lena Ladd.

She spent all of her life in Seminole County.

Neil was employed at Lillian Russell Company, Big Yank and was a domestic housekeeper for the Christ and Morgan families in Wewoka.

She was a member of Freewill Baptist Church.

She married Albert Paul Neil Dec. 24, 1951 in Little Rock, Ark.

He preceded her in death on Jan. 15, 1997.

Neil is survived by two daughters, Annette Escue of Ada and Judy Higgins of St. Regis, Mont.; two sisters, Ruby Sharum of Orange, Calif. and Alice Carter of Salem, Ore.; and two grandchildren.

C. Lee Nelson

MAUMEE, OHIO – Funeral services for Wewoka native C. Lee Nelson were scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.

Burial will follow at a later date in Wewoka.

Services are under the direction of Foth-Dorfmeyer Mortuary.

Nelson died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2002 in Medical College of Ohio at the age of 68.

He was born Jan. 1, 1934 in Wewoka to Roy and Jewell Nelson.

He was a 1952 graduate of Wewoka where he lettered in football, baseball, track.

Nelson also wrestled.

He continued his football career while attending Tulsa University and East Central State.

He also attended the Institute for Organizational Management at the University of Huston and the Industrial Development Institute at the University of Oklahoma.

Nelson was presented the Key Man Award by the Hugo Jaycees and was a member of the Economic Development Commission in Oklahoma.

In 1961, he was honored as one of 40 men picked from throughout the country to attend the first industrial development institute.

His working career began in Hugo where he manager of the Choctaw County Chamber of Commerce.

Nelson was also general manager of Industrial Development, Inc., a division of Wichita Falls Chamber of Commerce in Texas.

He then served as executive vice president of the Orange, Texas Chamber of Commerce, as well in Odessa, Texas.

His first position with Owens, Illinois in Toledo was as manager of public affairs-forest products division, which was then followed by regional director of public affairs.

As Nelson advanced in the company, he was named director of public affairs, administrative assistant to the executive office and retired as vice-president and director of public affairs.

He was a member of the Social Lodge #217 F&AM in Lena, Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Toldeo, Zenobia Temple and the Temple Guard, and Royal Order of Jesters Toledo Court #21.

He was also a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, where he served, at the age of 25 in Hugo, as the youngest Exalted Ruler of any lodge in the United States.

Nelson was also a member of BPOE #53 and National Order of Turtles, Pond #1, in Toledo.

He also was a member of the Toledo Area Chamber of Commerce, the Public Affairs Committee of the Chamber of Commerce of the United States and the National Society of State Legislators and the Government Relations Committee of the Glass Packaging Institute.

He previously served on the Board of the Toledo Mud Hens and was vice-chairman of the Board of Trustees of Medical College of Ohio and Chairman of its hospital committee.

Nelson was also a past president of the Toledo Press Club.

He was listed in the U.S. Junior Chamber of Commerce publication, "Outstanding Young Men in America."

He also he been listed in "Outstanding Personalities in the South," "Outstanding Texas," "Personalities of the West and Midwest," and was named "Outstanding Young Man of 1965" by the Orange Junior Chamber of Commerce.

Nelson was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Carol Lee Gilmore Nelson.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley; children, Janet Castillo, Brent Nelson and Cindy Hill; sisters, Helen McLain and Juanita Brand; one brother, Virgil Nelson; step-children, Debra Calevro, Keith Widener and Kevin Widener; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Elks Scholarship Fund, or Shriner’s Children’s Burn Unit.
