Daisy Sandfur

Funeral services for Daisy Lorene Sandfur were scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday at Victory Baptist Church.

Tim Harjo, her grandson, was set to officiate. He was to be assisted by Corky Snodgrass and Gary Watkins, who are also her grandsons.

Burial was to follow at Vamoosa Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Wake services were held Monday night at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel.

It was conducted by Rev. John Campbell and the Hitchitte Women Singers.

Sandfur died Saturday, June 8, 2002 at Shawnee Unity Health Center North Campus at the age of 73.

She lived in Seminole County and Earlsboro before moving to Sunset Estates Nursing Home in Shawnee.

She was born July 4, 1928 in Castle to Billy Spencer and Willie Mae (Johnson) White.

Sandfur married Glen Sandfur on Dec. 19, 1950 in Seminole. He preceded her in death on Dec. 23, 2001.

She was a homemaker and held to establish and operate food banks until her illness.

She spent her life raising her 11 children and several grandchildren.

Sandfur was affiliated with several local churches.

She attended high school at Chilocco Indian School.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three sons, Hubert Sandfur, Jimmy "Geronimo" Sandfur, and Benjamin "Buck" Harjo; and one brother, James Spencer.

Sandfur is survived by a granddaughter, Brandy Harjo of the home; seven daughters, Nyeaka "Sue" Jimboy and Glenda "Glennie" Snodgrass of Konawa, Shirley "Chatee" Watkins of Ada, Rebekah "Becky" McBroom of Earlsboro, Beverly "Chick" Handshaw of Seminole, Myra Sheppard of Goodman, Mo., and Mary Ann Algood of Maud; one son, Frank Sandfur of Earlsboro; one adopted son, Bennie "Blue" Sandfur of Shawnee; four brothers, Jimmy Spencer of Midwest City, and Alfred Spencer, Benny Smith, and John Smith of Shawnee; 25 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.

Ashley Sanford

Funeral services for Ashley Nicole Renee Sanford, the infant granddaughter of Wewoka residents, were scheduled for 2 p.m. today at the Middle Creek #2 Baptist Church.

Rev. Frank Moppin was to officiate.

Burial was to follow at the church cemetery under the direction of Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home.

Sanford died Jan. 19, 2002 in Ada.

She was born Jan. 19, 2002 in Valley View Hospital in Ada to Matt Sanford and Jana Arnn.

She is survived by her parents of Holdenville; grandparents Kevin and Diana Garner of Holdenville, Danny and Shirley Sanford of Wewoka and Lela Warledo of Tulsa; great-grandparents, Jean Carpenter, Kenneth Sanford, and Joe Grizzle, all of Holdenville, Carol Arnn of Elk City, Ivy and Patsy Garner of Wewoka; and great-great grandparents, Joe and Oletha Grizzle of Holdenville.

Pallbearers are Danny Sanford and Kevin Garner.

Bertie Sanford

Funeral services for Bertie Ethel Sanford are scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel.

Rev. Robert Hightower is set to officiate.

Burial is to follow at Maple Grove Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Sanford died Monday, June 3, 2002 at Unity Community Health North in Shawnee at the age of 80.

She was a longtime Seminole resident.

She was born June 29, 1921 in Leedy to John and Roberta (Cases) Dillion.

Sanford married Warren B. Sanford on April 4, 1988 in Carson City, Nev.

He preceded her in death on Aug. 30, 2001.

She was a homemaker and a member of Trinity Baptist Church.

Sanford was also preceded in death by her parents; her first husband of 37 years, Fred Cathey; and two brothers, John L. Sam H. Dillion.

She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Barbara Cathey of Seminole; one daughter, Freda Proctor of Norman; one niece, Mary Kay and David Westphal; one great-niece, Cherie and Chris Hobbs; one great-nephew, Tavis and Jennifer Westphal; and two grandchildren, Belinda Cathey and Melissa Proctor.

Pallbearers will include Chris Hobbs, David Wesphal, Larry Wright, Sheldon Sanford, Gene Cathey and Doug Goodman.

Elvis Saylor Sr.

Funeral services for Elvis Harold Saylor Sr. are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel.

Rev. Dewayne Bobbitt is set to officiate.

Burial is to follow at Little Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Saylor died Friday, Feb. 1, 2002 at Norman Regional Hospital at the age of 82.

He was born Oct. 23, 1919 in Eufaula to "J.C." James Clarence "Popeye" and Nellie (Lee) Saylor.

He married Jewell Mae (Black) Saylor on Nov. 17, 1940 in Shawnee.

Saylor retired from Tinker Air Force Base in 1982 as a plumbing supervisor.

He served three years in the United States Army and four years in the navy where he was an Athletic Chief Petty Officer during World War II.

He was a pro baseball player for the St. Louis Browns.

After returning to Oklahoma, Saylor was played on a semi-pro baseball team.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Connie Saylor in 1941; and five brothers.

He is survived by his wife of the home; one son, E. Harold Saylor Jr.; one brother, Jim Saylor of Davis; two grandchildren and two great-grandchidlren.

Sadie Schauer

BETHANY – Funeral services for Sadie May Lamkin Schauer, the mother of a Bowlegs resident, were held Saturday at the Bill Merritt Memorial Chapel.

Interment followed in Bethany Cemetery under the direction of Bill Merritt Funeral Service.

Lamkin died Wednesday evening, Nov. 20, 2002 at the age of 94.

She was born to Joseph and Pearl Lamkin on Oct. 19, 1908 near Hardesty, in an area known as No Man’s Land.

She married Ed Schauer on May 24, 1927.

They had been married almost when he preceded her in death on Jan. 16, 1997.

Schauer helped her husband build and remodel churches for the Church of the Nazarene.

They worked in approximately 20 communities in northwest Oklahoma and southern Kansas.

She was preceded in death by her husband; an infant daughter; her parents; four brothers; and two sisters.

Schauer is survived by her son, Melvin Schauer of Bowlegs; two daughters, Leola McKay of Channing, Texas and Dorothy Bishop of Dalhart, Texas; two sisters, Bessie Vincent of Dalhart, Texas and Ruth Forehand of Meeker; seven grandchildren; 20 grat-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

Mae Frances Scobey

Funeral services for Mae Frances Scobey are scheduled for 3 p.m. Saturday at Macedonia Baptist Church.

Rev. Clifford Bert of Goodwill Baptist Church is set to officiate.

Burial is to follow at Westwood Cemetery under the direction of Myers Mortuary.

Scobey died Friday, May 3, 2002 at her home in Del City at the age of 54.

She was born Nov. 17, 1947 in Holdenville.

She worked as a dispatcher for Oklahoma City Public Schools for 22 years until the time of her death.

Scobey attended schools in Wewoka before moving to Del City in 1969.

She was a member of Middle Creek Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her father, Roscoe Scobey; one son, Ivan Carolina; and one brother, Robert Fair.

Scobey is survived by her mother, Martha Ann Roberts of Wewoka; two daughters, Lisa Carolina of Oklahoma City and Teresa Kendrick of Killeen, Texas; three sons, Manuel Carolina Jr. of Oklahoma City and Jason Carolina and Oscar Michael McKinney, both of Del City; nine brothers, Wardell Barkus, Gerald Roberts, and Leon Jackson, all of Wewoka, Steven Sandridge of Los Angeles, Calif., Willie Fair of Tulsa, Roland Scobey of Oklahoma City, Roscoe Scobey Jr. of Washington D.C., and Royce and Derrick Scobey of Dallas, Texas; one sister, Debbie Bert of Spencer; and nine grandchildren.

Emma Gladys Seydel

Funeral services for Emma Gladys Seydel are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday at the Seminole First Church of God.

Rev. P. Roger Brewer is set to officiate.

Burial is to follow at Bethany Memorial Garden in Sterling Heights, Mich. under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

There will also be a memorial service at Bethany Church of God in Sterling Heights, where her cremains will be placed in the church’s Memorial Garden beside her beloved husband.

Emma died Sunday, Aug. 25, 2002 at her home at the age of 94.

She moved to Seminole seven years ago from Detroit, Mich.

She was born March 31, 1908 in Detriot to John Emmanuel and Emma (Schultz) Grabke.

Emma married Karl Graff Seydel on June 24, 1931 in Detriot. They were married 63 years before he preceded her in death.

She was employed at J.L. Hudson’s Department Store in Detroit and Jacobson’s Department Store in Grosse Point Woods, Mich.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three brothers, Harold, Raleigh, and Lewis Grabke; and two sisters, Mable Whitener and Lillian Craib.

Emma is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Karen I. and Rev. P. Roger Brewer of Seminole; one son and daughter-in-law, Neil C. and Florence Seydel of Grosse Point Farms, Mich.; four grandchildren, Neil C. Seydel Jr. of Roseville, Mich., Teri (Brewer) and David Hooten of Seminole, Shawn Brewer of Anderson, Ind., and Shannon (Brewer) and Mark Krenz of Anderson, Ind.; three great-grandchildren, Cody, Jacob, and Abbie Hooten; one brother, Volney Grabke of Harper Woods, Mich.; and two sisters, Ruth Davis of Burton, Mich., and Dorian Meintz of Mount Morris, Mich.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to First Church of God Memorial Fund, 214 W. Strothers, Seminole, OK, 74868.

Emma will be greatly missed by her family, her many friends at Seminole First Church of God and Seminole’s Heritage House.

She was a very active letter writer, corresponding regularly with more than 20 close friends and family members across the United States with personal news, prayers, and words of encouragement.

Her sense of humor and love for Jesus Christ and the church will continue to have influence for generations to come.
