John Smith

CUSHING – Funeral services for John Smith are scheduled for 4 p.m. Thursday in the Memorial Chapel of the Davis Funeral Home.

Rev. Stephen Orton, pastor of the New Hope Fellowship, Pentecostal Church of God, is set to officiate.

Burial is to follow in Union Cemetery under the direction of Davis Funeral Home.

Smith died Monday, April 8, 2002 in St. Francis Medical Center in Tulsa at the age of 77.

He was born June 22, 1924 in Walters to Samuel and Mary Mae (Bassett) Smith.

He had been a member of the New Hope Fellowship Pentecostal Church of God in Cushing for the last 2 ½ years of his life and considered it his home church.

Smith had been the pastor of several churches, including the Holdenville Atwood First Baptist Church, Midway First Baptist Church in Wewoka, Wolf First Baptist Church, and Forrest First Baptist Church in Chandler.

He began as a minister while serving in the United States Armed Forces.

He entered the United States Air Force, where he served for seven years before his discharge.

Smith then entered the United States Army.

While in the army, he served three tours in Vietnam, where he received the Vietnam Service Medal with two bronze service stars.

He eventually retired from the army on April 30, 1969.

Smith married LeaDean Reim on Dec. 28, 1995 in Cushing. The couple continued living in Cushing until his death.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Linda Sue Smith; one son, Robert Lynn Smith; one brother, Bob Smith; two sisters, Irene Smith McCarter Hayes and Nora Smith Puienton; and two granddaughters, Xena Rodgers and Abbiegail Rodgers.

He is survived by his wife of the home; two daughters, Kim Rodgers of Stillwater and Twila Mason of Seminole; one son, John Smith Jr. of Austin, Texas; three grandchildren; three stepdaughters, Marilyn McFarlin of Stillwater, Leora Barrows of Cushing, and Beverly Sneed of Gardner, Kans.; two stepsons, Cleo Johnson of Cushing and Terry Johnson of Chickasha; 27 stepgrandchildren and numerous step-great-grandchildren.

Karleta Mae Smith

Funeral services for Karleta Mae Smith, mother of Seminole County resident Karen Green, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday at Williamson Funeral Chapel, Wetumka.

Burial will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Fairview Cemetery in Talala under the direction of Williamson Funeral Home.

Smith died Oct. 30, 2002, at Tulsa Regional Medical Center at the age of 69.

She was born Aug. 19, 1933, in Shawnee, to Oren and Caroline Dill Edgmon.

She was reared in the Shawnee area where she attended local schools. After graduation, she was employed by Sylvania Electric.

She attended beauty college and later worked as a cosmetologist for a short time.

In 1957, she moved to California, where she met and married Gerald Smith.

She attended business college where she was trained as a tax specialist.

They lived in several communities in the Ohji Valley before returning to Oklahoma in 1973. They settled in the Dustin area.

She was affiliated with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Smith was preceded in death by an infant son, Glen Thomas; a sister, Donna Jean Hix; and a brother, Billy Edgmon.

Survivrs include her husband, Gerald, of the home; three daughters, Linda Keeter, Santa Maria, Calif., Karen Green of Seminole, and Karleta Wheat of Ada; and seven grandchildren.

Etha Snodgrass

Funeral services for former Seminole County resident Etha C. "Sue" Snodgrass, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel.

Rev. Delton Tollett will officiate the services.

Burial will follow at the White Chimney Cemetery in Stuart at 2 p.m., under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Snodgrass died Wednesday, June 19, 2002 at Norman Regional Hospital at the age of 67.

She was born to Malcolm McGehee and Josie Irene (Watkins) McGehee on April 26, 1935 in Cabiness.

She married Carl Henry Snodgrass on May 12, 1951 in Stuart.

Snodgrass lived in Shawnee for the past two years, moving from the Wolf area.

She was a homemaker, and a member of the United Daughters of the American Revolution.

Snodgrass was also a member of the Konawa Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Carl on Sept. 2, 2001; one infant sister and one infant grandson.

Snodgrass is survived by one son, Thomas Snodgrass, San Diego, Calif.; one daughter, Hazel Hull, Meeker; three sisters, Beverly Evans, Perkins, Earlene Cole, San Antonio, Texas, and Doralee Hickerson, Stuart; Five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Grace Snodgrass

Funeral services for Maud resident Grace Lucille (McCullough) Snodgrass are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Monday at Avoca Church of Christ in Asher.

Terry Newell is set to officiate.

Burial is to follow at Wolf Cemetery under the direction of Knight-Swearingen Funeral Home.

Snodgrass died Friday, Feb. 22, 2002 at her home at the age of 60.

She was born March 5, 1941 in Dry Prong, La. to Ernest Eugene and Ada June (Collins) McCollough.

She had served as the housekeeping supervisor at Oklahoma Baptist University for the past 11 years.

Snodgrass was a member of the Thompson Heights Church of Christ in Shawnee.

She was preceded in death by her parents; ex-husband, Jim Snodgrass in 1995; her son, Jack Snodgrass in 1996; granddaughter, April Dawn Snodgrass.

She is survived by her son, Jim Snodgrass of Konawa; two daughters, Terri Lane and Julie Neilsen, both of Maud; two brothers, Gene and Curt McCollough of Baldwin of Mo.; four sisters, Dale Collins of Springfield, Mo., Margie Gilley of Glen Dale, Ariz., Ida Moore of Little Rock, Miss., and Norma Cruz of Temple, Texas; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Jimmie Spencer

MUSTANG – Funeral services for Seminole native Jimmie Spencer are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at the Chisolm Heights Baptist Church in Mustang.

Burial is to follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens under the direction of Vondel L. Smith and Son Mortuary.

Spencer died Tuesday, March 12, 2002 after a long battle with cancer.

He was 66.

He was born July 6, 1935 in Seminole to Jimmie and Mary Spencer.

On Feb. 16, 1973, Spencer married Jeanette Spencer.

He was an ordained minister.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Cherise.

Spencer is survived by his wife; one son, Steven Wilson of Mustang; one daughter, Diana Khanagov of Midwest City; one sister, Elizabeth Bartos of Seminole; and two granddaughters.

Preston Spencer

Graveside services for Seminole native Preston S. Spencer are scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday at Westwood Cemetery in Wewoka, under the direction of Myers Mortuary.

Rev. Wayne Dallas of Oklahoma City will officiate the services.

Spencer died Saturday at HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital in Oklahoma City at the age of 81.

He was born to Thomas Jefferson Spencer and Alice (Hollins) Spencer on Feb. 26, 1921 in Seminole.

His earlier life was spent in Seminole County where he attended and graduated from high school.

Spencer was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II.

He worked at Tinker Field for six years, and also worked at the Skirven Hotel in Oklahoma City.

Spencer later worked as a custodian at the State Capitol for 13 years before retiring in 1962.

He accepted Christ in his later years under Rev. Carol Buckner of Wildewood Christian Church.

Spencer was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Thomas.

He is survived by one daughter, Cheryl Bryant, Oklahoma City; one sister, Laura Jefferson, Denver, Colo.; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Bill Spicer

A memorial service for longtime Seminole resident Bill Spicer is scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church of Seminole.

Dr. Kelvin Moseley will officiate the services.

Spicer died Friday April 19, 2002 at Mercy Health Center in Oklahoma City at the age of 75.

He was born to William Don Spicer and Minnie E. (Lloyd)Spicer on March 11, 1926 in Paris, Ark.

Spicer married Jean (Holt) Spicer on Aug. 28, 1948 in Ft. Smith, Ark.

A veteran of the U.S. Navy, Spicer served in World War II as Yeoman Third Class.

Spicer received the Victory Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign Ribbon with four stars, the American Campaign Ribbon, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one star, a Presidential Unit Citation, and Ribbon Bar with Bronze Star.

He was a career educator who began his teaching experience at Sequoyah Schools outside of Claremore, where he was principal and coached basketball.

From there, he taught at Oolagah Schools and then on to the Oklahoma Military Academy in Claremore (Rogers State University), before moving to Seminole State College in 1972 where he was a math instructor until his retirement in 1987.

Spicer was a member of the First Baptist Church, where he served as a door greeter.

He was also a member of the Retired Teacher’s Association, the VFW, and the American Legion.

Spicer was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Ina Mikles, and Diva Ann Henson.

He is survived by his wife, Jean, of the home; one son, Don Spicer, Edmond; one daughter, Debbie Thompson, Novato, Calif.; and four grandchildren.

The family requests that memorial donations be sent to Vision 2000 at the First Baptist Church, Central Habitat for Humanity, or the charity of choice.
