Walter Garner II

Funeral services for Wewoka resident Walter William Garner II are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Wewoka.

Rev. Russell Ryker is set to officiate.

Interment is to follow at Oakwood Cemetery under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home.

Garner died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2003 at Seminole Medical Center at the age of 29.

He was born in Holdenville on Dec. 5, 1973 to John Paul and Nancy Jo Cole Garner.

He was reared in the Seminole County area and graduated in 1992 from Wewoka High School.

Following graduation, Garner enlisted in the U.S. Marines where he served for four years prior to returning to Wewoka.

He was employed by ABC Boring Corporation, a company that lays communication cable.

He married Leslie Hendrix on Oct. 12, 2002, and he has a daughter, Ashlynn Brooke Garner, by a previous marriage.

Garner is survived by his wife, Leslie Garner of the home; his daughter, Ashlynn Brooke Garner of McLoud; his parents, John Paul Garner and Nancy Jo Cole Garner of Wewoka; two brothers, John Garner Jr. and his wife, Sandra Lee of Holdenville, and Tommy Garner and his wife, Sandra Jo of Wewoka; and one sister, Jeanie Garner Lemons and her husband, Jerry, of Wewoka.

He was preceded in death by both his maternal and paternal grandparents.

Pallbearers will be Rick Ogle, Justin Chambers, Brandon Smith, Matt Hale, Shane Findley, and David Conley.

Polly Gentry

Funeral services for lifelong Seminole County resident, Polly Gentry are scheduled for Saturday at 11 a.m. at Macedonia Baptist Church of Wewoka.

She died June 12, 2003, at the age of 79, at Seminole Medical Center in Seminole.

She was born Dec. 29, 1923m in Wewoka to the late Lawson Wortham and Lula (Charles) Wortham.

The youngest of three sisters, she received her early education from Nobletown School.

She united with the Springcreek Baptist Church and was baptized at an early age.

She met and married C.L. Gentry.

Gentry worked in her church and served in the Sunday school, mission, usher board and sang in the choir and with the Joyland Gospel Singers.

Her favorite hobby was fishing.

Her father and mother; two sisters, Anna Payne and Corine Thomas; and two brothers, Lee and Andrew preceded her in death.

She is survived by two sons, Richard Andrews of Stonewall and Elmer Gentry of Wewoka; three brothers, Jim Nutt, Elmer Crockett and Bud Crockett all of Wewoka; eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Officiating Pastor will be Rev. B.G. Renfro of Parker’s Chapel Baptist Church.

Interment will follow at Westwood Cemetery in Wewoka under the direction of Myers Mortuary.

Dorothy Gibbens

Funeral services for Wewoka native Dorothy Louise (Dottie) Gibbens are scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday at St. Paul’s Episcopal Cathedral in Oklahoma City.

Gibbens died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2003.

She was born to Edythe and Thomas R. Seay in Wewoka on Jan. 29, 1935.

Gibbens was manager of the corporate computer section of the Fleming Company, and was an associate with Prudential Real Estate.

She was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Cathedral, and a member of the Oklahoma Historical Society.

Gibbens is survived by her husband, James C. Gibbens; two daughters, Cynthia Louise Steels, and Elizabeth Anne White; five grandchildren; and four step-grandchildren.

Tony Gibson

Funeral services for lifelong Seminole County resident, Tony Gibson are scheduled for 2 p.m. on Wednesday at High Springs Indian Baptist Church under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Gibson died April 13, 2003 at the age of 70 his residence in Konawa.

He was born August 9, 1932 in Ada to Marcy Gibson and Maud (Wood) Gibson.

He married Katherine Yarbrough on March 15, 1956 in Sherman, Texas.

He was a truck driver and retired in 1979.

He was a member of Tuskeia Harjo Band, Seminole Nation and Green Leaf Baptist Church in Okemah.

Casket bearers are Gus Porter, James Motley, Tommy Gibson, Glenn Gibson, Anthony Gibson, and Scott Gibson.

Honorary bearers are James Yarbrough, Michael Yarbrough, David Vivler, Kenneth Gayler, Harrison Doolen and Mark Gibson.

His parents, a daughter, Toni Lynn Gibson; four brothers, Jack Gibson, Amond Harjo, Richmond Harjo, Marcy Gibson and one sister, Pauline Penoske, preceded him in death.

He is survived by Katherine Gibson of the home, seven sons, Glenn Gibson of Ada, Tommy Gibson, Anthony Gibson, Scott Gibson and Colt Gibson all of Konawa, Edward Cedartree of Tulsa Cornelius Cedartree of Oklahoma City; four sisters, Marsha Motley of Konawa, Tonette Porter of Prague, and Ellen Ward and Bridget Ellis of Prague; two brothers, Mark Gibson of Okemah and Roman Harjo of Byng, three sisters, Cynthia Cooper of Castle, JoAnn Story of Ada and Christine Gibson of Konawa, 22 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Revs. Ed George and Issac Foster will be officiating.

Interment will follow to Vamoosa Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Harold ‘Bud’ Gile

Funeral services for Seminole native, Harold A. "Bud" Gile are set for 10 a.m. on April 18 at Cooper Funeral Chapel in Tecumseh.

Giles died April 15, 2003, at the age of 69 in Shawnee.

He was born on October 26, 1933 to Jess A. and Ruby (Wilson)Gile in Seminole.

He was reared in Seminole and was a Seminole High School Graduate.

He lived in Tulsa, Oklahoma City, Shawnee and Tecumseh for the past 15 years.

He married Teresa Tuttle in Tulsa on May 6, 1973.

He served with the United States Army in the Korean War, during which time he was a POW.

Along side his wife, they owned and operated Oklahoma Medical Supply for many hears.

He had also worked for Halliburton Industries, Transcon Freight and Sooner Supply.

He enjoyed working in his shop at home and was actively involved with scouting with his son’s Scout Troop.

He was a 32nd degree Mason with the Red Fork Lodge in Tulsa.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife of the home, Teresa Gile; three sons, Tony Gile of Broken Arrow, Mike Gile of Tulsa, and Brad Gile of Shawnee; one brother, Ben Gile of Muskogee; four grandchildren and two nephews.

Services will be officiated by Rev. Mike Buckley of Pink First Baptist Church.

Committal will be at 2 p.m. at Memorial Park in Tulsa under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.

Giovanna Angel

Former Seminole resident Giovanna Nance Ada Angel died April 21, 2003, at the age of 75, at her home.

She lived in Seminole in the 1950, s – 1960’s when she was the owner of the Waffle House for many years.

She worked for the Prince William County school as a bus aide for the handicapped.

She was also a member of the British Ladies Club.

She is survived by her daughter, Jaime Mailander of Fort Wayne, Ind.; one son, Nigel Angel of Woodbridge; one grandson; one sister, Cousha Houghton and one brother, Lawrence Houghton, both of England.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on April 23 at Mountcastle Funeral Home in Woodbridge, Va.

Funeral services and interment will be private.

Julia Gipson

Funeral services for former Seminole County resident, Julia Gipson are scheduled for July 11 at 11 a.m. at Myers Mortuary Chapel, Wewoka.

She died July 2, 2003, at the age of 99, in the Valley View Hospital, Ada.

She was born Aug. 26, 1903 in Konawa to Jacob and Lola Gibson.

She united with Bethleham Baptist Church and accepted Christ at an early age.

She finished Grayson Grade School.

She was married to Mr. Boone and moved to Wewoka in 1950, until she moved to Ada with her niece due to failing health.

She united with the Friendship Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. E.K. King and served as their first church secretary.

She later moved her membership to St. Joseph Baptist Church.

She enjoyed working in her garden, sewing, cooking, cleaning and loved children.

She was a dedicated housekeeper, working in various homes and also a midwife in the community.

She lived in Ada until the time of her death.

Her father, mother, two brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.

She is survived by her brother, Leonard Davis of San Diego, Calif., a host of nephews, nieces, great nephews and great nieces.

Officiating the services will be Rev. B.G. Renfro of Parkers Chapel Baptist Church.

Interment will follow in the Grayson Cemetery under the direction of Myers Mortuary, Wewoka.
