W. Clarence Newman

Funeral services for longtime Seminole County resident W. Clarence Newman are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel.

Rev. Roy Robertson will officiate the services.

Interment will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens, under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Newman died Tuesday, April 15, 2003 at the Golden Rule Nursing Home in Shawnee at the age of 89.

He was born to John Henry Newman and Almedia (Harris) Newman on Feb. 23, 1914 in McMinn County Tenn.

Newman married Stella Levell (Cornett) on Oct. 29, 1938 in Athens, Tenn.

He was a retired greens keeper from the City of Oklahoma City at Lake Hefner.

After his retirement from the City of Oklahoma City, he worked for the City of Bowlegs.

Newman was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Bowlegs.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Newman is survived by his wife, Stella Newman, of the home; one son, William Newman, Midwest City; one daughter, Eva Sue Sharber, Windfall, Ind.; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great grandchildren.

Casket bearers will be Randy Newman and Mickey McGlasson.

Honorary bearers will be Jack McGlasson, John Smith, Jim Sharber, Ricky Newman, and Mike Sharber.

David Newman

Funeral services for longtime Seminole resident David Burton Newman are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at the First Assembly of God Church with casket closed.

Newman died at his home in Seminole on May 14, 2003 at the age of 80.

He was born in Virgil, Kansas on May 1, 1923 to Jim Newman and Gertrude Mae (Fuller) Newman.

He moved to Seminole 24 years ago from Fox.

He married Reta (Hardin) Jarvis on July 15, 1998 in Miami.

He retired in 1985 from Sun Oil Company and sold D & B Chemical Company in 1990.

He served in the U.S. Army as a Private 1st Class and served during World War II, receiving a Bronze Star.

He was a member of Seminole First Assembly of God Church, the American Legion and the LD Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Delores (Chambers) Newman on March 28, 1987 and one step-son, John Jarvis.

He is survived by his wife Reta of the home, two daughters, Sherry Sifford of Seminole and Debbie Mann of Gloster, Miss.; six grandchildren, Kevin Sifford, Kyle Sifford, Becky Hoffman, Angela Darden, Alison Shell and Tess Jarvis; 8 great grandchildren, Jake, Matt and Lacy Darden, James David and Robbie Dawn Shell, and Justin, Wilson and Brady Sifford;

She is also survived by two brothers, Jack Newman of Mounds and James Newman of Weleetka and three sisters, Daphine Jett of Sapulpa, Sally Wasson of Tulsa and Joy Egert of Okmulgee.

Rev. Lee Jones will be officiating the service.

Casket will be closed at the church.

Interment will follow to the Wetumka Cemetery under the direction of Swearing Funeral Home of Seminole.

Casket bearers will be James Dooly, Tom Dooly, Jim Ed Newman, Richard Newman, Bob Ford, Bill Dulancy and Jim Hardin.

Honorary bearers will be Kevin Sifford, Kyle Sifford, Justin Sifford, Wilson Sifford, Brady Sifford and Dan Hoffman.

Newman was a very patriotic person who loved to ride horses and play with his grandchildren.

Margaret Jane Norman

Funeral services for longtime Wewoka resident Margaret Jane Norman are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at First Christian Church, Wewoka.

Revs. Neil Thompson and Andy Edwards will officiate.

Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home of Wewoka.

Mrs. Norman died at OUPresbyterian Hospital on Thursday, Jan. 16, 2003 at the age of 86, following a brief illness.

She was born on Aug. 14, 1916 in Mangum to Henry Hargus Edwards and Bertha Belle Burrow Edwards.

She graduated from Wewoka High School in 1933 and attended Oklahoma College for Women, Oklahoma A&M College, and East Central State College.

Mrs. Norman received her Backelor of Arts Degree from Oklahoma College for Women in 1937, with a double major in English and Journalism, and Art Education minor.

She married Edgar Franklin Norman on Aug. 11, 1940 inTulsa and they made their home in Wewoka.

She taught elementary, junior, and senior high school throughout her teaching career.

Mrs. Norman was a bookkeeper for Norman’s Men’s Wear from 1967 to 1987.

During her life in Wewoka, she was an active member of the First Christian Church since 1928, where she was Chairman of the 75th Anniversary Celebration in 1985.

Her other achievements and associations during her lifetime have included being President of the American Association of UniverstyWomen during the years 1941-1943 and 1969-1971.

Mrs. Norman was a founding member of the Seminole Nation Museum and Historical Society in 1973 and held its presidency from 1974 to 1981.

She had been curator of the museum since 1981.

She belonged to the Hyacinth Unit of the Wewoka Garden Clubs; Oklahoma Heritage Association; Town Hall, Oklahoma City; Wewoka Arts and Crafts Club; P.E.O.; co-directed Wewoka’s First Easter Pageant in 1967; was awarded Wewoka Chamber of Commerce’s Citizen of the Year in 1974; Distinguished Service Award from the Oklahoma Heritage Association in 1975; Governor’s Arts Award for Community Service in 1985; Wewoka Camber of Commerce’s Civic Service Award in 1986; Wewoka High School’s Outstanding Alumna Award in 1988; wewoka Chamber of Commerce’s Golden Age Award in 1989 and she was a Parade Marshall for the Sorghum DayParade in 1999, celebrating the 25th anniversary of the founding of the Seminole Nation Museum and Historical Society.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial be made to the Seminole Nation Museum and Historical Society, Wewoka.

Mrs. Norman was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 58 years, Edgar Franklin Norman, Jr.

She is survived by three children, Richard Norman Sr. and his wife, Nan, Rancho Mirage, Calif., John Randall Norman, Wewoka, and Nancy Jane Norman LeVasque and her husband, John, Yucaipa, Calif.; her grandchildren, Richard Norman Jr., Shane Norman, Amy Norman Norris and her husband, Steve, Brooke LeVesque Rice and her husband, Dan, and John Norman LeVesque, all of California; her great-grandchildren, Kirsten, Kaile, and Katie Norris; her brother, H.H. Edwards and his wife, Nancy, Grove; her sister-in-law, Elizabeth Bachman, Oklahoma City; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a host of friends.

Pallbearers will be Bob Edwards, Carl BeVille, Richard Norman Jr., Shane Norman, John Norman LeVesque, and Danny Rice.

Honorary pallbearers are Jerry Cole, Bill Kidd, Mike Russell, Gil Morgan, Roger Friar, Dennis Phillips, and Mike Bachman.

Martha Novotny

Services for lifelong Seminole resident, Martha Fern Novotny.

There will be a private graveside service at 2 p.m. on Wednesday at the Little Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Rev. Bill Burns will officiate.

Novotny died Tuesday, March 18, 2003 at the age of 61 at Seminole Medical Center.

She was born to Newt Smith and Norma (Coleman) Smith Anderson on June 11, 1941 in Paden.

She graduated from Prague High School in 1959 and was a member of the Seminole Holiness Church.

She worked at the Pioneer Nursing Home.

Novotny was preceded in death by her father, Newt Smith.

She is survived by her mother, Norma Anderson of Bowlegs, two daughters, Teresa Hasbell of Seminole; and Starla Burns of Bowlegs, three grandchildren, William Burns, Bobby Hasbell, Jr., and Chance Burns; and two brothers, John and Jerry Smith, both of Bowlegs.

Karrie Nuckolls

Funeral services for Karrie Jane (Jackson) Nuckolls, daughter of Seminole County residents, are scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 18 at the Gaskill Funeral Chapel in Shawnee.

Rev. Leroy Kerbo will officiate.

Interment will follow at the Vamoosa Cemetery, south of Seminole under the direction of Gaskill Funeral Chapel.

Nuckolls died Saturday, Dec. 13, 2003, at the age of 38 at her residence in Shawnee.

She was born Sept. 25, 1965, in Tulsa to Gerald Jackson and Sharon (Ward) Jackson.

Nuckolls was an Ada High School graduate and married Cary Nuckolls.

She was a homemaker and a wood crafter as well.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Angela Dawn Jackson and her maternal grandparents, Rupert and Alice Ware.

She is survived by her husband, Cary Nuckolls of Shawnee; her children, Amber of Texas, Josh of Shawnee and Chelsea and Gabbie of McLoud; her parents, Gerald Wayne and Sharon Jackson of Konawa; grandparents, Earl and Joyce Jackson of Bearden; one brother, Michael Jackson of Miami; Shirley Nuckolls of Shawnee; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Bill Ockerman

Funeral services for former Seminole resident, Bill Ockerman, are scheduled for Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel, Seminole.

He died June 27, 2003, at the age of 86, at St. John’s Hospice in Tulsa.

He was born Sept. 3, 1916, in Beggs, to Luther Ockerman and Bessie (Gant) Ockerman.

He was married to Berniece Elsie Ockerman on Dec. 5, 1940.

He served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the Ideal Street Baptist Church, Seminole.

He was an oilfield worker in and around Seminole most of his life.

Employers included Mora Oil Co. and Wood Oil Co. retiring in 1983.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Berniece, on Sept. 9, 1992; two brothers and two sisters.

He is survived by his son, Fred Ockerman of Broken Arrow; on brother, Roy Ockerman, Dumas, Texas; two sisters, Dorothy Bell of Sapulpa and Patty Jo Groover of Tulsa; and three grandchildren.

Interment will follow in the Little Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.

Jose Orebaugh

Memorial services for former Seminole County resident, Josie Orebaugh are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17 at Arlington Memorial Gardens in Spencer under the direction of Baggerly Funeral Home, Edmond.

She died Sept. 12, 2003, at the age of 90.

She was born May 27, 1913, and was raised in the "Osage" and Seminole oil fields.

She graduated from Seminole High School in 1932 and attended East Central University where she met and married James E. Orebaugh.

They moved to Hartshorne when her husband returned from World War II, where he owned and operated a bakery.

The family moved to Oklahoma City in 1950 and she worked for Rothchild’s for 22 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband and two sons, George and Mike.

She is survived by son Jim Orebaugh, four grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
