Fredrick McNaughton

Private services for former Wewoka resident Fredrick Michael McNaughton were held Saturday, Sept. 24, 2005 at Oakwood Cemetery.

McNaughton, 52, passed away Sunday, Sept. 11, 2005 in Methodist Willowbrook Hospital, Houston, Texas.

He was born Aug. 7, 1953 in Wewoka to T.J. McNaughton and Edith (Young) McNaughton. He graduated from Wewoka High School.

Fredrick Michael is preceded in death by his parents.

Surviving is his son, Chad McNaughton of Mid West City; daughter, Jillian McNaughton of Mid West City and brother, Tim McNaughton of Wewoka.

Anna Faye Merrell

Funeral services for former Seminole County resident Anna Faye Merrell are set for 1:30 p.m. Friday, at Moore’s Eastlawn Chapel in Tulsa.

Services will be under the direction of Moore’s Eastlawn Chapel of Tulsa.

Interment will follow, at Maple Grove Cemetery in Seminole.

Merrell died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2005, at the age of 94.

She was born Oct. 28, 1910, in Roff, to Ben and Ida Leona King.

Merrell graduated from East Central State College in Ada, now known as East Central University, with a bachelor’s degree.

She taught school in Tulsa for 30 years.

Merrell was a member of the Tulsa Farm Club and the American and Oklahoma Black Angus Associations. She was an Eastern Star Past Worthy Matron, a lifetime certified teacher, a world traveler, and a rancher.

Merrell was preceded in death by her husband Clint N. Merrell in 2000, and four grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughter Patti Merrell of Silver City, N.M.

Don Ray Metzger

Funeral services for former Seminole resident Don Ray Metzger were held at Baker Funeral Home Chapel, West Columbia, Texas on Monday, March 28 at 2 p.m.

Rev. Dave Barclay presided over the services and interment took place at Resthaven Cemetery, Oklahoma City, on Wednesday, March 30.

Metzger, 44, resided and died in West Columbia, Texas on Friday, March 25, 2005. He was born Nov. 6, 1960 in Seminole to Glenn and Julia Metzger.

His father preceded him in death.

Surviving him is his son Casey Metzger of West Columbia; mother Julia Metzger of West Columbia and his brother David Metzger of Bellaire, Texas.

James N. Milam

Wake services for Wewoka resident James N. Milam are scheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday at Stout-Phillips Funeral Chapel and funeral services are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Thursday.

Interment is to follow at Johnson Family Cemetery with Rev. Emerson Falls to officiate, and assisted by Andrew Johnson.

Milam died Monday, July 18, 2005 in Oklahoma City at the age of 76. He was born Jan. 29, 1929 in Ada to John and Elizabeth (Johnson) Milam.

Milam attended school at Chilocco School and after graduating he entered the United States Marines and served in the Korean War as a photographer.

He retired from the service as a staff sergeant in 1968.

Milam worked for the State of Oklahoma as a photographer and he served two years as assistant chief and four years as Principal Chief from 1979 to 1985.

He was a member of the Nurcup-Harjo Band and a member of the Country Estates Baptist Church of Midwest City.

Milam married Jane Wilson Jan. 29, 1971 in Wewoka and to this union four children were born.

One brother, Bobby Edward Johnson, and his parents preceded him in death.

Survivors include wife Jane of the home; daughters Rhonda Milam of Oklahoma City and Jane Elizabeth Milam of Seneca, Mo.; sons Russell Keith Lumpouth of El Reno and Robert Brian Milam of Oklahoma City; sisters, Jeanne Moore of Russellville, Ark. and Jo Usher of Brunswick, Ga.

In addition, he has two stepbrothers, Edward and Edwin Pate of Norman and five grandchildren and one great-grandchild surviving him.

Pallbearers will be Kevin Moore, Keith Moore, Rufus Buddy Cox, Darryl Chotkey, James Davis and Katcv Jones.

Honorary bearers will be Marion Tinker Jones, Brian Jones, Mike Spann, Royce Lee Spann, Marvin Alexander and Ted Felix.

Venita Miller

Graveside services for Seminole resident Venita Mae (Whitney) Miller are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday at Little Cemetery.

Rev. Russell Ryker will officiate and the arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

Miller, 76, died Friday, Sept. 2, 2005 at Seminole Municipal Hospital. She was born June 30, 1929 in West Point, Calif. to Hans and Ethel (Cambell) Whitney.

She married Herman Emil Miller in West Point, Calif. in 1948 and was a homemaker.

Her parents; husband; two daughters, Barbara Decaillet and Judy Miller and two granddaughters, Angel Miller and Jennie Miller preceded her in death.

Surviving are two sons, Johnny Miller of Riovista, Calif. And David Miller of Reno, Nev.; four daughters, Sandra Davis of Cromwell, Shirley Miller of Covelo, Calif., Debbie Miller of Sana Rosa, Calif. and Wanda Miller of Seminole; one brother, Jerry Whitney of West Point, Calif.; 12 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Velma M. Millsap

Funeral services for former Seminole County resident Velma M. Millsap are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, at the Pickard-Swearingen Funeral Home chapel with Mitch Williams officiating.

Interment will follow at Konawa Cemetery, under the direction of Pickard-Swearingen Funeral Home.

Millsap died Sunday, Oct. 23, 2005, at the Shawnee Care Center in Shawnee. She was 94.

She was born Nov. 8, 1910, in Hazel to Robert L. Wood and Jessie J. (Norris) Wood.

On Sept. 8, 1925, she married Jesse Millsap in Hazel.

In 1942, Millsap moved to Evansville, Ind. to work as a riveter in the aircraft field during the war. Upon returning to Oklahoma, she worked and retired from Spartan Air Craft in Tulsa. After 18 years in the aircraft field she returned to Hazel.

Millsap was a member of the Assembly of God church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Millsap of 51 years; her mother and father; and four siblings.

Millsap is survived by one daughter, Wanda Moss of Shawnee; one brother, Leon Wood of Sulphur; and one sister, Juanita Knowles of Bowlegs.

Tony Mitchell

Funeral services for Tony Mitchell, father of Seminole County resident Danny Mitchell, were held at 2 p.m. Thursday. Burial followed in the Mitchell Family Cemetery in Dustin. Services were officiated by Revs. Josie Mitchell, Richmond Carr and Charles Mitchell.

Mitchell died Monday, Aug. 1, 2005, at the Oklahoma Heart Hospital in Oklahoma City where he had been a patient for some time. He was 75.

He was born May 8, 1930, in Dustin to Daniel and Lydia (Simpson) Mitchell.

He attended schools in the Dustin and Wetumka areas and then went to Bacone College in Muskogee.

In 1950, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He served during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in January of 1954.

After returning home, he married Cilla Harjo.

The Creek Nation employed him as a carpenter in Building Construction.

His parents Daniel and Lydia Mitchell and his wife Cilla Mitchell who passed away in 1976 preceded him in death.

He is survived by Jean Mitchell of the home; children, Danny Mitchell, Johnny Mitchell, Jason Mitchell, Anthony Mitchell, Tana Hicks, and Judith Garza; brothers, Rev. Joe Mitchell and Johnny K. Mitchell; sisters, Martha Ned, Hannah Tiger, Nellie West, and Mary; 20 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Daniel Mitchell, Chebon Harjo, Jakie Ryan Mitchell, Shane Mitchell, Henry Hicks IV, and Yona McCarter.

Arrangements were under the direction of Schumacher Funeral Home of Okemah.

Fred Mode

Memorial services for former Seminole resident Fred Mode are scheduled for 4 p.m. Thursday at Jones Mortuary located at 115 S. Main Street, Lakeport, Calif.

Cremation will be by Lake County Memorial Crematory with burial at Hartley Cemetery. The arrangements are under the direction of Jones Mortuary.

Mode, 55, of Lake County, California, died Saturday, march 19, 2005. He was born Oct. 2, 1949 in Seminole to Randall and Betty Mode.

He served in the United States Army from 1967 – 1970.

His father, former Assistant Fire Chief of Seminole, preceded him in death.

Surviving him is his mother, Betty Romans of Kelseyville, Calif.; sister, Bobbie Oxnam of Lucerne, Calif.; brothers, John Kelley of Santa Rosa, Calif., Paul Kelley of Redding, Calif., Ronald Oxnam of Nice, Calif. and Melvin Oxnam of Los Gatos, Calif.

Thomas Moneypenny

Funeral services for Cromwell resident Thomas "Tommy" Lynn Moneypenny are set for 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2005, at the Butner High School Auditorium in Cromwell.

Rev. Carl Whitfield will officiate the services, which will be under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Seminole.

Burial is set to follow at Little Cemetery, north of Seminole.

Moneypenny died Friday, Sept. 2, 2005, at the age of 62, in Fayetteville, Ark.

He was born Feb. 6, 1943, in Baltimore, Md., to Harvey Moneypenny and Beulah (Baldwin) Moneypenny.

Moneypenny attended Prairie Valley High School in the Little area, and graduated in the class of 1961.

He received his B.S. from Central State University in Edmond, and received his master’s degree in education from East Central State University.

He was a teacher and girls’ basketball coach, first at Strother, from 1968 to 1974, and then at Butner High School, from 1974 until his retirement in 1999.

Moneypenny was one of the state’s winningest girls’ basketball coaches, taking several teams to the state playoffs and winning multiple district and area titles.

In 1995, he coached the All-State Girls Basketball team.

He taught sociology, psychology, math, and driver’s education.

Moneypenny was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cromwell.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Dorothy Dickerson.

Moneypenny is survived by three sons: Robert Moneypenny, of Runaway Bay, Texas, Russell Moneypenny, of Owasso, and Randy Moneypenny, of St. Cloud, Minn.; one brother, Roy Moneypenny, of Fairview; one sister, Margaret Fincher, of Cromwell; and six grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Terry Groves, Wendall Payne, Clay Eubanks, Cory Eubanks, Stan Taylor, Dennis Eubanks, and Clint Eubanks. Honorary bearers are: James Estep, Gene Coats, Jack DeShields, Kenny Dickerson, Rodney Sanders, Ted Tucker, and Buck Bear.
