Barry Alan Harjo

Funeral services for Holdenville resident, Barry Alan Harjo, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday at Holdenville Pentecostal Church with Rev. Jerry Osborn officiating.

Interment is to follow services at Yeager Cemetery under the direction of Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home.

A wake service will be held at 6 p.m. on Wednesday at Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home.

Barry passed away Saturday, Sept. 9, 2006 at the age of 32. He was born June 23, 1974 in Claremore to Joe and Susie "Harjo" Rogers.

Barry was raised in Holdenville and Yeager and attended school in Holdenville.

He started pipeline and roughneck work at the age of seventeen, working all over the country. He loved working in the oilfields.

Barry was currently working for Jerry Scott Drilling Company.

He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family and friends.

His grandmother, Togie Harjo; uncles, James Harjo; stepfather, Larry Clifft; sister, Shonna Rogers and two grandfathers, Barney Harjo and Ralph Rogers preceded him in death.

Barry is survived by his wife, Christy of the home; one son, Blake Harjo of the home; his mother, Susie Clifft of Wewoka; father, Joe Rogers; two sisters, Jimi Ray and husband Arvel Couffer of Holdenville and Christi Climer and husband David of Oregon; two brothers, Chip McCoy of Arpelar, Okla. and Billy Joe Rogers of Mena, Ark.; uncles, Jim Rogers of Paden, Jimmy Harjo of Holdenville and Bill Rogers of Yeager grandmother, Leota Rogers of Yeager and step-grandmother, Rosealie Ray of California.

Pallbearers for the services will be Doug Holmes, Donald Griggs, Kevin Brewer, John Seavers, Robert Merriman Jr., and Mike Hamilton.

Honorary bearers for the services will be Larry Cole, Randy Jackson and Billy Joe Rogers.

Bessie ‘Fish’ Harjo

Funeral services for Wewoka resident, Bessie "Fish" Harjo, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at Many Springs Indian Baptist Church, located south of Holdenville.

Rev. Tom Bear and Rev. Houston Tiger will officiate. Interment will follow services at Oakwood Cemetery under the direction of Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home.

Wake services will be held at Many Springs Indian Baptist Church at 6 p.m. Thursday and at 7 p.m. Friday.

Harjo passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2006 at Manor Care Nursing Home in Midwest City at the age of 83. She was born on July 10, 1922 to Frazier and Sarah "Buck" Fish several miles south of Wewoka.

She graduated from Spaulding High School and married William J. Harjo on Sept. 15, 1951 in Wewoka. He preceded her in death on March 15, 1979.

Bessie had worked for Douglas Aircraft during World War II and she has also worked for Scrivener Food Company Distributing for many years.

She was an avid bowler and enjoyed crocheting. Bessie was very involved with her church and played the piano. She had learned to play the piano from Nathan Buck Sr.

Harjo served as the church treasurer and had been a member at Many Springs Baptist Church for many years where she had acted as head women’s leader.

Bessie was the granddaughter of Seminole Chief, Chili Fish.

Surviving is her son, Woodrow Harjo and his wife Donna of Midwest City; two granddaughters, Sarah Harjo of Stillwater and Lauren Harjo of Midwest City; one brother, Leo Fish of Holdenville and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Pallbearers for the services will be Brownie Harjo, Leo "Chebon" Fish Jr., Elliot "Chebon" Buck, Sterling Harjo, Chris Goforth and Cary Goforth.

Honorary bearers will be Dean Goforth, Nathan "Wahoo" Buck, Robert Eugene "Blackie" Buck and J.W. "Corney" Buck.

Katie Harjo

Funeral Services for longtime Seminole County resident, Katie "Louise" Tiger Harjo are scheduled for 2:00pm, Wednesday at the Spring Baptist Church in Sasakwa with Frank Moppin officiating.

Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.

Katie "Louise" Tiger Harjo passed away Sunday, Sept. 17, 2006 at the age of 76. She was born on May 31, 1930 in Holdenville to Eunah and Lillian (Foster) Tiger.

She married Amond Harjo of Konawa and together they had ten children. She was a homemaker.

Her parents, husband, two grandsons, Mark Harjo and Juston Bondoni, and one brother, William "Sonny" Tiger preceded her in death.

She is survived by five daughters and sons-in-law and five sons and daughters-in-law, Ruth and Lindsey Bondoni of McLoud, Jamie and Hoby Hawkins of Maud, Kim and Gerald Harjo of Seminole, Justine and Ross Crowl of Seminole, Clarissa Cole of Tahlequah, Russell and Susan Harjo of Claremore, Keith Harjo of Konawa, Darby and Gail Harjo of Shawnee, Damond Harjo of Konawa, and Randall "Bo" Harjo of Konawa.

She is also survived by one sister, Katie Lou Wood of Shawnee; 23 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and two more great-grandchildren to be born soon.

Pallbearers will be: Brian Fixico, Shawn Fixico, Jordan Fixico, Chad Cole, Jim Bob Sandfur, Michael Crowl.

Honorary Bearers will be: Chase Cole, Brandon Harjo, Brent Harjo, Lindsey Bondoni and Theron Bondoni.

Lewis Harjo

Funeral services for Holdenville resident, Lewis Wayne Harjo, are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Tookparfka Baptist Church.

Rev. Frank Moppin and Rev. Danny Faulkner will officiate and a wake service will be held tonight at 8 p.m. at the church.

Services are under the direction of Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home, Holdenville.

Harjo, 59, died Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2006 in Oklahoma City. He was born Feb. 27, 1947 to Amos Harjo Sr. and Louise McCosar Herrod.

He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in January 1967, where he was on tour of duty in Vietnam, and was honorably discharged on Oct. 29, 1973.

Harjo worked as a roofer and carpenter throughout his life.

Rev. Joe Wallace at Tookparfka Baptist Church baptized Harjo on Nov. 29, 1998.

His parents, brothers, Frank and Richard Herrod and sister, Gladysteen Herrod preceded him in death.

Surviving is his wife, Janie of the home; four sons, Eric of Tahlequah, Grant "Bubba", Blaine and Brent "Opie" of the home; three grandchildren of the home; brothers, Amos Harjo Jr. of Cyril and John Herrod of Ada and sisters, Elouise Harjo of Holdenville, Katie Kincaid of Calvin, Zula Herrod of Ada, Minnie Mitchell of Seminole, Frances Herrod of Ada, Leona Herrod and Estelle Herrod of Calvin.

Pallbearers for the services will be Jason Nix, Mark Parris, Kevin Farber, Joshua Harrison, Robert Harrison and Mitchell Harjo.

Honorary bearers will be Andy Wesley, David Paslay, Scott Treadwell, Mark Brannon, Roy Ramsey and Chuck Speyer.

Michael Harjo

Funeral services for Sasakwa resident Michael James Harjo are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at Rock Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Houston Tiger officiating.

Wake services are scheduled for 6:30 p.m. tonight at Stout-Phillips Funeral Home Chapel and the body will lie in state until 4 p.m. Thursday.

Interment is to take place at Rock Springs Cemetery under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home.

Harjo, 49, died Monday, June 12, 2006 in an Oklahoma City hospital. He was born Nov. 26, 1956 in Sasakwa to Jonah and Effie (Carpitcher) Harjo, and he attended Vamoosa Schools.

His father (1966); brother, Thomas Harjo; sister, JoAnn Harjo and grandson, Desmond Harjo preceded him in death.

Surviving is his mother, Effie Harjo of Wewoka; five children, Sheila Carter of Altus, Daniel Harjo of Ardmore, Joni Harjo of Seminole, Thomas Harjo of Ardmore and Michael Harjo of Altus; 11 grandchildren; two sisters, Michele Harjo and Melissa Johnson, both of Wewoka and one brother, Jimsey Harjo of Wewoka.

Pallbearers for the services will be Kris Carter, Earl Davis, Mike Factor, Dewayne Coon, Howard West and Louis Yahola.

Honorary bearers will be Joe Johnson, Bryant Johnson, Leon Morgan, Andy Johnson and Mike Williams.

Scotty Harjo

Funeral services for former Seminole County resident Scotty Harjo are scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday at First Southern Baptist Church in Lawrence, Kan.

He will lie in state Saturday 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. and Sunday 9 a.m. – 9 p.m., with visitation to be held Sunday from 6 – 8 p.m. at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, Lawrence, Kan.

Interment is to follow services with full military honors at Oak Hill Cemetery, Lawrence, Kan.

Harjo, 78, died Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2006 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. He was born Jan. 15, 1928 in Bowlegs to Willie and Jenny (Narcomey) Harjo.

He attended school in Wewoka and Muskogee, graduating from Bacone High School. He later attended Bacone College in Muskogee and Northeast State University in Tahlequah.

Harjo served in the United States Army during the Korean War and attained the rank of master sergeant. He earned two bronze stars and was a member of Chosin Few, an organization for Marines who were at the Chosin Reservoir.

He worked at Haskell Indian Nation University from 1957-94 as a residential assistant, and also did student counseling and maintenance.

Harjo coached baseball, basketball, football and softball and started the first wrestling program at Haskell. He was also a football scout and was instrumental in the All-Indian Fastpitch Softball Tournament in Oklahoma City.

He was at the recent 50th anniversary of the tournament and was voted MVP of the first fifty years of the event.

Harjo married Esther L. Colbert on Jan. 31, 1962 in Lawrence. He was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church.

Surviving is his wife of the Lawrence home; two sons, Scott Nevius of La Palma, Calif. and John Scott Harjo of Lawrence; daughter, Patricia Nevius of Oak Grove, Mo.; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

The family has suggested that memorials be sent to the Boys and Girls Club of Lawrence, in care of Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1260, Lawrence, KS 66044.

Barney Harjoe

Funeral services for lifelong Seminole area resident Barney Monroe Harjoe are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel with Mike Harjo officiating.

Interment is to follow services at the family cemetery in Roscoe under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home.

A wake service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Swearingen Funeral Chapel.

Harjoe, 80, died Monday, Feb. 6, 2006 at OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City. He was born west of Bowlegs on Jan. 25, 1926 to Eco Harjoe and Eliza (Carbitcher) Riley. He was a farmer and oil field worker.

His parents; two half brothers, John and Edmond Riley and two infant sons, Monroe and Manroe Harjoe preceded him in death.

Surviving is one son Ted Harjoe of Shawnee; one sister, Wynema Deo of Norman and three grandchildren.

Mary Alice Harjoe

Services for former Seminole resident Mary Alice Harjoe are scheduled for 3 p.m. Monday at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel.

Burial is to follow at the Coker Family Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.

Visitation has been scheduled for Sunday from 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. at Swearingen Chapel.

Mary Harjoe passed away Friday, June 30, 2006 in Houston, Texas at the age of 68. She was born May 15, 1938 to Thomas and Elizabeth (Leone) Kehoe.

She is originally from Lock Haven, Pa. where her mother and brother, Robert, still reside.

Mary served in the United Stated Army where she met and fell in love with Thomas Coker Jr. She then made his hometown, Seminole, her home and her heart has been here ever since.

When residing in Houston she never failed to read her Producer and longed for the time she could return home.

Mary was a strong, bold woman who taught her family much. She loved Elvis, Native American heritage, and music.

Her first husband, whom she refers to as the love of her life, Thomas "Sonny" Coker Jr.; her baby brother, Thomas Kehoe Jr.; as well as uncles and aunts that were dear to her precede her in death.

She is survived by her mother, Elizabeth Kehoe; her brother, Robert Kehoe; her children and their spouses, Galle Kennedy and Bill Adkins, Bobbie and Byron Tipton, Tina and Billy O’Rand, Thomas and Michelle York; her grandchildren, Leslie, Laura, Lisa, Latoyia, Star, Victoria, Justin, Shad and Blake as well as her great-grandchildren, Unomi, Ashlynn, Kayla and another baby girl on the way.

Mary’s family would like to invite her friends and family to the service in which they will honor her memory, her strength, her beauty and her wild crazy spirit that they treasure so much.

We love you Mom, Grandma and will miss you dearly.
