Charles Coates

Charles was a railroad man. He was fourth generation of railroad in the Coates family. His father, grandfather, and great-grandfather were railroad men.

Charles started as a brakeman and ended his career as Superintendent of Operations for the Oklahoma City Santa Fe Railroad having served 40 plus years.

Charles was born March 6, 1925 in Francis, Okla., to Charles W. and Mary Elizabeth Sullivan Coates. There were four boys in the family; Harry who is now deceased, Howard who was killed in World War II and surviving brother James A. "Pinky" Coates of Seminole.

Charles passed from this life on Dec. 25, 2007 to wait in Heaven for his beloved wife, Geneva after 63 years of marriage. He was saved during a revival held at the Vamoosa schoolhouse and baptized in the Bowles’ family pond along with his other brothers by Pastor Roy Autry.

Charles loved his Lord and his church. Charles loved his church and led his family to always be faithful to attend. He read his bible daily and he could be heard praying in the sunroom often calling the names of his wife and children.

While attending First Baptist, Moore, he became interested in the Tape Ministry and continued in that until he became too ill to attend church continuing this ministry at his present church; Eagle Heights.

He loved the small children and always had a hug and "Smarties" to give them as they came and left, as well he had mints and jellybeans for the adults.

He was privileged to lead the man who sprayed his yard and trees to the Lord, as well as a 10 year old in the foyer of the church.

He was very proud to baptize his Great Grandson at Eagle Heights. During World War II, Charles served in the Coast Guard, but because of a bad hip, he received a medical discharge.

He loved animals and pets abounded the house and there was always a dog or two constantly at his side along with chickens, rabbits, doves, raccoons, cats and the fish who were in the backyard pond that he fed all year as well as the birds and the geese.

Many pleasant hours were spent with his Dad and brothers in Eastern Oklahoma fishing along with his other fishing buddies.

While lost in a snowstorm in the mountains for three days with a couple friends they were assisted by some mountain people who later sold Charles 40 acres where he built a cabin, which he and Geneva enjoyed for over 20 years.

He loved his garden and working in the yard planting flowers to please Geneva. His yard sand garden were a show place to many, as well were his many trees and all of the pecan tress that he planted in the yard.

Survivors include his wife Geneva; daughter, Middy Ann Gumtau and her husband Art; granddaughter, Kara Ann Whilden and her husband Tom; grandson, Lloyd Lawton; great-grandson, Cameron Tom Whilden; and many friends, cousins, nieces and nephews who mourn his loss.

At the time of his death he was surrounded by his family who told him "He did good."

The family wishes to thank Faith Hospice who served with love and care, especially Gayla, Trish, Judith and Chaplain Keith Ruminer as well as Janice who has been Charles’ caregiver and done so much.

We will always be grateful that God sent these people to help us.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, 2007 at Eagle Heights Church in Oklahoma City.

Grace Colbert

Funeral services for former longtime Seminole resident Grace Lee Colbert are scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday at the New Galilee Temple of Praise and Deliverance with Pastor Crawford officiating.

The church is located at 338 W. Russell Street in Seminole. Services will be under the direction of Keller Memorial Funeral Home, Boley.

Colbert of Desoto, Texas, died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2007 at the Linwood Nursing Home in Dallas, Texas.

While living in Seminole she worked in the sewing factory during World War II and later she did domestic work in the area. She moved to Desoto in 2000.

Her husband, Booker T. Colbert, one brother and one sister preceded her in death.

Surviving are one sister, Kathryn Morgan of Pueblo, Colo.; two daughters, Betty Colbert and Marilyn C. Pope; one son, Tommy Colbert; grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Edward Coleman

Graveside services for longtime Asher area resident Edward Donald Coleman are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday at Vista Cemetery, west of Konawa.

Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Konawa.

Coleman, 78, died Saturday, April 14, 2007 in Konawa. He was born Aug. 12, 1928 in Asher to Ed and Crissie (Henderson) Coleman.

He married Patsy Sue Orr in Purcell and she preceded him in death on March 7, 2006.

Coleman was a heavy equipment operator in construction and the oilfield. He also ran a motor grader for Pottawatomie County.

His parents and one brother, Wallace Coleman, also preceded him in death.

Surviving is one son, Kenneth Coleman of Konawa; one daughter, Dawna Brittain of Ada; one brother, Gene Coleman of Oklahoma City; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Elaine Coley

Funeral services for Wewoka resident Elaine H. Coley are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at Mission Home Baptist Church with Rev. Delmar Hume officiating.

Rev. Michael Vallandingham will assist and interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.

Services are under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home, Wewoka.

Elaine passed away Monday, Nov. 12, 2007 at Holdenville Hospital at the age of 92 years. She was born April 6, 1915 in Wewoka to Edgar and Mina (White) Fox.

On Jan. 28, 1931 Elaine Hope Fox married Joe Coley. She loved to fish and go camping and spent many summers on the Illinois River.

She was a seamstress and worked out of her home, making clothes for many people and friends in Wewoka. In the 60’s she made all of the cheerleader and twirler costumes, sewing the sequins on by hand on each of the costumes.

She loved to shop and have garage sales. Her grandchildren knew Elaine as "Mamaw".

Her parents; husband, Joe Coley; sister, Violet Bagwell; infant sister, Norma Jean; and brother, Don Fox, preceded her in death.

Surviving are her daughters, Joyce Keesee and Sharon Galletano, both of Wewoka; grandchildren, Whitnei Grubbs, Sherri Rush, Linda Davidson and Ronnie Keesee; great-grandchildren, John and Joey Davidson, James and Andrew Keesee and Brooklyn Rush; great-great grandchildren, Kandyce and Kobe Davidson and Jackson and Coley Keesee; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Gearold Collier

Graveside services for Wewoka resident Gearold "Lightnin" Thomas Collier were held today at 1 p.m. at the Lone Dove Cemetery in Sasakwa under the direction of Fisher Funeral Home, Holdenville.

Collier, 83, died Friday, Feb. 16, 2007. He was born July 3, 1923 in Seminole County to Ramon and Ida Collier.

He was a sergeant for the United States Army, serving from 1941 – 1946 during World War II in the infantry/parachute platoon.

Collier was highly decorated with the WWII Victory ribbon, American Theater ribbon, American defense Service ribbon, AP Theater ribbon, one Bronze Star EAME Theatre ribbon, three Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart from injuries he sustained at the EAME Theater on June 1, 1944.

He was an oilfield worker and helped drill the wells in Saudi Arabia in 1948-1949. Collier worked for Phillips Petroleum Company and as an installer for radio towers.

In his retirement years he took up the hobby of gardening.

His parents; two sisters, Elsie and Wanda; one son, Michael; and one granddaughter, Shawna Gayle preceded him in death.

Surviving is one brother, Raymond W.; three sons, Terry Ray, Raymond A. and Orville Lee; one daughter, Penny K.; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The family suggests that memorials may be made to the Veterans Administration or the VFW of choice.

Etta Comstock

Funeral services for Etta Comstock were held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Resthaven Funeral Home with interment at Resthaven Memorial Park.

Arrangements were under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home, Shawnee.

Etta, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2007 in Wewoka. She was born Dec. 24, 1923 in Boynton, Okla., to Lee and May (Waters) Guinn.

She was retired from Tinker Air Force Base and was a member of Temple Baptist Church; and was an Eastern Star member.

Her parents and a sister, Lorene Cannon of Seminole, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her husband, Deny Comstock of the home; two daughters and son-in-law, Donna Reeves of Midwest City, and Bill and Beverly Stubbs of Shawnee; five grandchildren: Julie Roach, Chris Reeves, Shawn Reeves, Brian Finley and Jeff Finley; her sister, Florene Tinsley; her brother, Furman Guinn; her brother and sister-in-law, Pat and Dolly Comstock; and six great-grandchildren.

Alice Conger

Funeral services for longtime Seminole County resident Alice Conger are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Larry Chesser officiating.

Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.

Alice Jolene Conger passed away on Saturday, Feb. 10, 2007 at the age of 65 at her home. She was born on July 31, 1941 in Lamar, Okla. to Luther and Lula Marie (Wright) Conley.

Alice married Floyd Conger on July 18, 1987 in Wewoka, Oklahoma. She retired in 2003 as a health care provider.

Her father, one son, Jamie Conger and son-in-law, Mike Stetzel, precede her in death.

She is survived by her husband of the home; mother, Marie Conley of Holdenville; three sons, Robert Lay of Wewoka, Delbert Lay and wife Jill of Norman, Dean Lay and wife Rhonda of Seminole; four daughters, Tresa and husband Frank McCorry of Boise, Idaho, Lori Osborne and husband Shawn of Shawnee, Amy Dye and husband Brian of Shawnee and Tina Conger of McAlester; one brother, Tony Conley of Holdenville and two sisters, Loretta Brown of Abilene, Texas, and Jerry Jett of Holdenville.

She is also survived by 29 grandchildren, Jamie, Jessica and husband Mike, Anna and husband Roy, Shannon and husband Keith, Selina, Chelsei, Ryan, Scotty, Jordon, Grace, Zoe, Callie, Max, Rena, Ryan, Tiphannie, D.J., Dustin, Tyler, Javen, Jessica, Kane, McKinze, Emilee, Jace, Tyler, Maci, Ashley and Riley and seven great-grandchildren: Tyler, Micheal, Jacob, Isabella, Kayla, Kalob, and Mason.

Thurman Conger

Funeral services for longtime Seminole resident Thurman Wayne Conger are scheduled for 10:30 am, Saturday, at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with Delmar Hume officiating.

Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Wewoka under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.

Thurman Wayne Conger passed away on Wednesday, May 16, 2007 in Oklahoma City, at the age of 70. He was born on Aug. 12, 1936 in Wewoka to Jessie James and Dora (Kersey) Conger.

He married Cheryl (Nickle) Conger on Aug. 11, 1989 in Seminole. He was a self employed Auto Body repairman in Wewoka.

He loved traveling back roads, hunting, fishing, going to the coffee shop and fixing up old cars. He loved spending time with his family.

His parents and one brother, Jack Conger, precede him in death.

He is survived by his wife Cheryl Conger of the home; one son, Sterling Conger of Garnett, Kan.; one daughter, Dana Mack of Washington State and three stepchildren, Chelly Jordan, and Mike Wells, both of Seminole and Monty Wells; brother, Floyd Conger of Wewoka and one sister and brother-in-law, Lena Sawyer and husband Judge of Wewoka.

Fourteen grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and other family and friends also survive him.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Conger, Todd Taylor, Jesse Saywer, Larry Sawyer, Judge Sawyer, Sterling Conger and Mike Wells.

Sybil Conley

Graveside services for Wewoka residents Sybil Alene Conley are set for 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 18, 2007, at Oakwood Cemetery in Wewoka.

The service will be under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home of Wewoka.

Conley died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2007, at Elmwood Nursing Home in Wewoka, at the age of 87.

She was born Oct. 30, 1919, in Boonville, Ark., to Maluster Cook and Maud Morgan.

She married Leroy Conley in 1958 and he preceded her in death in July 1996.

Sybil Conley was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a brother, James Cook; and a sister, Eula Mae Phelps.

Conley is survived by her sister, Sylvia Irene Payne; and nieces and nephews.
