John Hendrix

There are no services scheduled at this time for Seminole resident John Francis Hendrix.

Arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.

Hendrix, 86, died today, May 9, 2007 at Seminole Estates Nursing Center. He was born on April 21, 1921 in Osage County to Alex and Elma Edna (Eberhard) Hendrix.

He was a retired truck driver and member of the VFW. Hendrix was in the United States Army where he served in the South Pacific.

Hendrix married Olive Caroline Carter and she preceded him in death.

His parents and twp sisters also preceded him in death.

Surviving is his stepdaughter, Mary Burnett of Seminole; two stepsons, David Carter of Ft. Cobb, Okla., and Charles D. Carter of Catoosa and one brother, Jack Hendrix of Newalla.

Loretta Henley

Funeral services for longtime Seminole resident Loretta (Goodman) Henley are scheduled for 2 p.m., Wednesday at Seminole Church of Christ with Kevin Rayner officiating the service assisted by Bob Anderson.

Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.

Loretta (Goodman) Henley, 91 years old, passed from this life Sunday, June 10, 2007 at Unity North Hospital in Shawnee. She was born July 20, 1915 in Massey, Okla., to parents Clarence and Mary Ethel (Maynard) Goodman.

Loretta married Clinton Henley on April 8, 1939 in Wewoka. He preceded her in death March 17, 1990.

Loretta was a member of the Park and Seminole Church of Christ in Seminole where she worshiped for 68 years. She was a member of the Highland Church of Christ in Tecumseh from 1997 to the present.

Loretta worked as a LPN in Seminole for 34 years. She attended nursing school at St. John's Hospital in Tulsa and completed her training at Seminole Junior College.

She worked at the Pace - Chambers Clinic and later at the Seminole Hospital Clinic for Doctors Claude Chambers, Julian Wood, Jack Wood and George Davis until she retired in 1992.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Cherie and Bob Trousdale of Tecumseh; three sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Trellys Henley of Santa Rosa, Calif., David Henley of Tecumseh and Joe and Deidra Henley of Oklahoma City and one brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Margie Goodman of Prue, Okla.

Also surviving are 13 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, other family and dear friends.

Mrs. Henley was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and one daughter, Rebecca Jane Henley who died in 1945.

The family has designated the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation - 825 N.E. 13th Street - Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73104-5097 as appropriate for memorials.

Sigus Henry

Funeral services for former Wewoka resident Sigus Henry are scheduled for 9 a.m. Saturday at Sand Creek Church, Eufaula, with Rev. Houston Tiger to officiate.

Interment is set for 3:30 p.m. at Rosewood Cemetery in Achille, Okla., under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home, Wewoka.

Henry, 18, died Monday, Nov. 26, 2007 at mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City. He was born May 12, 1989 to Daniel Spencer and Catherine Denise Henry Gosvener.

He attended Ada High School and was a member of Ada Temple Baptist Church. Henry was employed as a shop foreman for Oklahoma Core Supply Co., and he enjoyed motorcycles and spending time with his fiancé and stepdaughter.

His grandmother, Debby Huynh, preceded him in death.

Survivors include: his parents, Altus and Catherine D. Gosvener of Oklahoma City; father, Daniel Spencer of Shawnee; brothers: Tommy G. Beaver, Thompson Beaver and Tyson D. Henry; sisters: Magdeline G. Henry of Wewoka, Katrina Marie Gosvnere and Olivia S. Gosvener; stepsisters, Cristy N. Gosvener and Amy R. Gosvener; and grandparents, Frank and Retha Ramirez of Wichita, Kan., and Tu Van Huynh of Wewoka.

Pallbearers for the services will be: Roger Wells, Christopher Overbay, Tommy George Beavers, Alex Harjo, Jeff Marrow, Joe S. Suarez and Daniel Spencer.

Betty Herndon

There are no services planned at this time for longtime Seminole resident Betty Lue Herndon.

Arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.

Herndon, 77, died Saturday, June 2, 2007 at Seminole Medical Center. She was born Jan. 24, 1930 in Cisco, Texas to William James and Lula Agnes (Smith) Walker.

She was a homemaker and newspaper carrier. She was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church.

Surviving is one daughter, Sandra Galbraith Godfrey of Odessa, Texas; five sons, John Galbraith of Odessa, Carl Galbraith of Seminole, Curtis Galbraith of Panama City, Fla., Everrett Herndon of Seminole and Kerry Herndon of Oklahoma City and numerous grandchildren.

Carolyn Herrin

Funeral services for Wewoka native Carolyn L. (Cross) Herrin were held today at 10 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, Duncan with Rev. Tracy L. Wilson officiating.

Burial followed at Duncan Cemetery under the direction of Don Grantham Funeral Home, Inc., Duncan.

Herrin, 79 of Duncan, died Friday, Oct. 26, 2007 in Oklahoma City. She was born Sept. 24, 1928 in Wewoka to Guy L. and Dora (Payne) Cross.

On June 13, 1948 she married Walter L. Herrin in Wewoka and has taught in the Duncan Public Schools for 25 years.

She was a member of the Stephens County Retired Educators Association, Duncan Chapter; Regent and 1st Vice Regent of the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution; South Central District President, District Membership Chairman, State Convention Chairman of General Federated Women’s Clubs of Oklahoma; charter member of Stephens County Music Association and member of Duncan Federated Music Club.

She had been active in her professional organizations: Oklahoma Music Teachers’ Association, Oklahoma Music Educators’ Association, Oklahoma Music Adjudicators’ Association, and Duncan Educators’ Association.

Herrin taught private piano and voice for many years and was an active member and elder of the First Presbyterian Church, where she served as organist for 16 years, choir director for 14 years, Sunday school teacher, Women’s Bible moderator, youth sponsor, and member of the worship committee.

Her parents; two brothers, Guy L. Cross Jr., and David P. Cross; and one son, Richard Keith Herrin preceded her in death.

Surviving is her husband of the home; three children, Tom Herrin of Lindsay, Nancy Hemphill of Duncan and Tricia Newman of Oklahoma City; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers for the services were: Chip Woods, Jimmy Edwards, Guy Messersmith, Kevin Zinn, Mike Steil and Lonnie Helms.

Honorary bearers were: Sam Thompson, Jim Livingston, Gordon Demerson, Don Dowhower, Bob Hoffman, Al Hruby and Quanah Cox.

Austin Hickman

Funeral services for former Wewoka resident Austin Corbit Hickman were held today at 2 p.m. at Southgate Baptist Church in Moore.

Austin had a Veterans Honor Guard presentation graveside at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Norman following the funeral.

Services were under the direction of John M. Ireland Funeral Home and Chapel.

On Friday, May 11, 2007 at 2:55 p.m. Austin "A.C." Corbit Hickman, 86, "graduated" from this earth to meet in Heaven his dear wife, Delora (Chamberlain) Hickman, who passed only 10 weeks ago.

A.C. was called "Matt" by his grandkids and "Uncle Doe-Doe" by many nieces and nephews.

Austin outlived cancer 20 years ago and three pacemakers since. He died at his daughter’s home from a rapid form of acute Leukemia.

A.C. was chosen a few months ago to be one of the first in the U.S.A. as an experimental patient for a successful Cardio-mems pulmonary implantation.

A.C. worked until the age of 80, he received a MA degree from ECU. He was a master woodworker, horseman, rancher, educator and he hunted beagles, fished, and took care of his wife until she passed on Feb. 25, 2007.

A.C. was known for his strong will, opinions, and humor. Every stranger he met became a friend. He donated countless hours to church building programs and helping others.

Austin served in the United States Army in World War II, returned for a tour in the Korean War, in the Philippines, serving as a master sergeant. He also served as a medic and kitchen supervisor.

Austin was born in Atoka on Aug. 6, 1920 and finished Springer High School, where he met his future wife of 66 years.

They married a day before Pearl Harbor, Dec. 6, 1941. A.C. always joked, "and the war never ended!"

The couple lived in Wewoka from 1949-1970. They both taught Sunday school at the First Baptist Church in Wewoka, where he was a faithful deacon. Before teaching, A.C. worked for Whitehead Hardware in Wewoka, after several years with Shawnee Milling Company.

His personal philosophy was, "I don’t have any bad days – but some are definitely better than others."

Austin Corbit was preceded in death by his wife, Delora; parents, Robert J. and Amanda (Chambers) Hickman; two brothers, T.J. and Jack; and four preemie sons.

Austin is survived by his only child, Rhonda, and her husband Rev. Ken Young; granddaughter, Tina (Ward) and Dr. Brad Carter of Edmond and greats, Jack and Ella Carter; grandson, Aaron Shayne Stanberry and greats, Jordan and Ben Stanberry; David Young II, all of Ada; great-granddaughter, Alexandra Corwine of High Springs, Fla.; one sister, Hildreth Hunter of Ardmore; one brother, Jim Hickman of Okmulgee; sister-in-law, Ola Mae Smith and family of Springer; special church family from Southgate; many cousins; friends, Carl and Ina Taylor, Fred and Mary Hodges, Jack Ward and adopted grandson, J.P. Fox and family, all of Oklahoma City areas.

Austin Hickman’s family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to employees of Ballard Nursing Home and Companions in Care Hospice, Ada.

Delora Hickman

Funeral services for former Wewoka resident Delora E. (Chamberlain) Hickman are scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday at Southgate Baptist Church in Moore.

Services will be conducted by John Ireland Funeral Home of Moore and co-officiated by Pastor Doug Brewer and son-in0law, Rev. Ken Young.

Delora, 84, went to meet her Lord at 2:45 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 25, 2007 from Ballard Nursing Home, Ada. She was born Aug. 30, 1922 in Springer, Okla., to Charlie and Nora (Brewer) Chamberlain.

Delora graduated high school there and later completed Business/Secretarial College in Ardmore.

She held various part time jobs, but enjoyed her role as a full time mom and homemaker the most. Delora was an excellent cook, housekeeper and gardener with many small farm duties.

Sixty-six years ago, the day before Pearl Harbor, Dec. 6, 1941, Delora married her high school sweetheart, Austin Corbit (A.C.) Hickman, a United States Sergeant.

The couple finally settled in Wewoka for over 20 years, and was active in the First Baptist Church there. They lived in Moore for 36 years and attended Emmanuel Baptist and then Southgate Baptist of Moore, holding several positions in those churches.

Her parents, four preemie infant sons, one sister, Naomi Pelton, and a brother, C.J. Chamberlain preceded her in death.

Mrs. Hickman is survived by husband, A.C.; one daughter and husband, Revs. Ken and Rhonda Young; grandson, Aarran Stanberry; great-grandsons, Jordan and Ben Stanberry, all of Ada; one granddaughter and husband, Tina and Dr. Brad Carter and children, Jack and Ella Carter, all of Edmond; step grand and greats include, David and Lisa Young and family of Ada, and Nicole (Young) and George Corwine and daughter, Alex, of Hot Springs, Fla. and two older sisters, Ola Mae Smith of Springer and Evelyn Mangrum of Branson, Mo.

A large number of nieces, nephews and steps will greatly miss Delora Hickman.

Antoinette Hicks

Graveside services for the infant daughter of former Seminole resident, Chad T. Walker and Jessemia D. Hicks are scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday at Snake Creek cemetery with Rev. Kellos Walker officiating.

Services are under the direction of Schumacher Funeral Home, Okemah.

Antoinette Lee Hicks was born Sunday, March 18, 2007 at Unity North in Shawnee and lived only briefly.

She is survived by her parents; maternal grandparents, Melissa Hicks and Maximino Lopez; great-grandparents, Geneva Fixico and Jackson Lowe, Henry Hicks Jr. and JoAnn Hicks.

Pallbearers for the service will be Henry Hicks III, Thomas Hicks, Antonio Hicks and Henry Hicks IV.
