Bernice Jo Pack

Funeral services for longtime Seminole resident Bernice Jo "Jody" Pack are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday at the Temple of Praise Church in Seminole with Rev. Harold Turner and Dennis Stone officiating.

Interment will follow at Little Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.

Bernice Jo "Jody" (Lackey) Pack passed away on Monday, Jan. 29, 2007 at her home at the age of 53. She was born on Jan. 9, 1954 in Shawnee to Charley Alfred and Joyce Lavena (Timmons) Lackey.

She married Troy Eugene Pack, Jr. on March 10, 1989 in Seminole. She was a payroll clerk for Wrangler in Seminole for 24 years.

Jody was also a recent honors graduate of Seminole State College where she received her associate’s degree. She was a member of the Temple of Praise church.

Her parents precede her in death.

She is survived by husband, Troy Eugene Pack, Jr. of Seminole; four sons and daughter-in-law, Gary and Nakia Rhodes of Oil Center, Troy Rhodes of Norman, Charley Hinesley of Maud, and Jason Hinesley of Ada; two daughters, Angela and Robby Callahan of Seminole, and Marci Hinesley of Macomb and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Sharon and John Rhodes of Seminole and Carolyn and Virgil Hinesley of Macomb.

Seven grandchildren, Joshua Callahan, Caleb Callahan, Harley Callahan, Braxton Hinesley, Maci Hinesley, Blake Hinesley and Kya Rhodes and one goddaughter, Larissa Alred, also survive her.

Pallbearers will be Carl Lackey, Chuck Lackey, Abel Lackey, Rand Edgell, Terry Edgell, Sid Spencer, Michael Pack and Micah Wederski.

Honorary Bearers will be: Ronnie Timmons, Wayne Timmons, Danny Timmons and Paul Alred.

Elizabeth Loving

Funeral services for Cromwell native Elizabeth Parker Loving were held Friday, Feb. 16 at the Whitehurst Memorial Chapel in Los Banos, Calif.

Loving died Thursday, Feb. 8, 2007, in Los Banos, Calif. She was born to Bert and Virgie Mae Parker on May, 20, 1938 in Cromwell.

Loving graduated from Douglas High School in Wewoka, after which, she moved to Oklahoma City.

She married William Loving, and in 1963, the couple relocated their family to Menlo Park, Calif., where they resided until moving to Los Banos in 2000.

Loving was a member of the Macedonia Baptist Church of Menlo Park for over 35 years, where she served in many capacities.

After moving to Los Banos, she united with the First Baptist Church, and then later united with New Canaan Missionary Baptist Church, serving on the Mother’s Board until her illness precluded her from doing so.

Affectionally known as "Nana" by many, Loving worked and retired from Safeway Stores after 30 years of employment.

Her parents preceded her in death..

She is survived by her husband, William; two daughters, Angela Gayle Loving-Johnson, Los Banos, Calif, and Sheryl Elizabeth Loving-Layfield, West Chester, Ohio; three sisters, Edverda Hightower, Cromwell, Patricia Beavers, St. Louis, Mo., and Karen Wells, Yuma, Ariz.; three brothers, Tommie Noble, Arcadia, Willie Simpkins, Cromwell, and Wayne Parker, Seattle, Wash. and three grandchildren.

Phillip G. Parks

Funeral services for longtime civic leader, business owner and pharmacist, Phillip G. Parks are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church, Seminole.

Interment is to follow at Maple Grove Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.

Phillip G. Parks, 85 of Seminole, passed away Tuesday, June 19, 2007 in Oklahoma City. He was born July 6, 1921 in Hugo, Okla., to Henry and Roxie Parks.

His father founded Parks Drug in Seminole in 1926 and because if its success, the entire Parks family moved to Seminole in 1931.

In 1940, after the death of his father, Phillips and his brother Henry took over the business.

Phillip attended Seminole Public Schools and graduated from Seminole High School in 1940. He graduated from Seminole Junior College with an associate’s degree in accounting in 1942.

During World War II, Phillip volunteered to serve his country and joined the United States Navy in May 1942. He served as Pharmacist Mate in the U.S. Medical Corps until the end of the war in 1945.

After the war, Phillip’s priorities turned to family and community service.

He married Mildred Heath from Holdenville on Aug. 12, 1950. They became parents to three daughters, Regina, Ann and Kelly.

Phillip continued his college education at the University of Oklahoma and Southwestern State College of Pharmacy in Weatherford. He graduated from Southwestern State College of Pharmacy in 1962, with a degree in pharmacy.

In addition to being a registered pharmacist and owner of Park Drug, Phillip was also a commercial photographer. He donated his photography services to Seminole High School students and families for over 45 years.

Phillip has been a member of the Chamber of Commerce; a member of the American Legion Post 0204 for 50 years, serving as vice commander of that post; a member of the Masonic Lodge; a past president and member of the Kiwanis Club; and member of the First Baptist Church.

Phillip served as a councilman for the City of Seminole for 25 years, and was a vice mayor for eight years. He also served his community as a volunteer for the Seminole Fire Department from 1948 to 1968.

In 1968, as past president of the Kiwanis Club, Phillip was chosen as the Most Valuable Member of this service organization. In 1976, Phillip was selected as the Seminole Citizen of the Year by the Seminole Chamber of Commerce.

For Phillip’s 45 years of unselfish and dedicated service to Seminole Public Schools, he was awarded a plaque of appreciation on Sept. 28, 1990.

In 1994, Phillip was inducted in to the Seminole Hall of Fame for outstanding service to his community. In 2004, Phillip was further honored at the 1st Annual Seminole High School Hall of Fame, sponsored by the Seminole High School Alumni Association.

His parents, Henry and Roxie Parks, a brother, Henry, and a sister, Marie, preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife Mildred of the home; daughters, Regina Carnazzo of Omaha, Neb., Ann Black of Ardmore and Kelly Holland of Omaha, Neb.; a sister, Adrienne Anderson of Edmond; five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

His employees and dear friends, Celeste Goodnight and Cheryl Morrison, who have become a part of his extended family, as well as many other dear friends in the community also survive him.

Jack Walker Parrish

A memorial service to honor the life of Jack Walker Parrish is scheduled for Dec. 3 at 1 p.m. at the Chapel Hill United Methodist Church in Oklahoma City under the direction of Vondel Smith Mortuary.

Walker died Nov. 29 in Oklahoma City.

He was born Aug. 21, 1925 in Ponca City.

Shortly after graduating from Ponca City High School, he entered the United States Army where he served as a Ranger in World War II.

After returning from serving overseas, he attended Oklahoma A&M, graduating in 1949.

He then married Ramona Mae Campbell on December 22, 1949 and attended the University of Oklahoma where he received his Doctorate in Medicine in 1953.

He served the community of Seminole as a family physician from 1954 to 1979.

In 1979, he became the first Chairman of the Family Practice Residency Program at the University of Oklahoma, having served as President of the Oklahoma Academy of Family Physicians from 1970 to 1971.

He served as head of the Industrial Medicine Department of McBride Clinic in Oklahoma City from 1981 until his retirement.

After retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren as well as volunteering at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum.

During his lifetime, he was active in his church and volunteered many hours at the OU School of Medicine and with the Boy Scouts.

He was awarded the Boy Scouts Silver Beaver in 1975.

He led a full life as a beloved husband, father, and respected physician.

His parents, two brothers, two sisters, and one grandchild precede him in death.

He is survived by his wife Ramona, of the home; children, David Parrish and wife Sharon of Garland, Texas, Richard Parrish and wife Robbin of Oklahoma City, Gary Parrish and wife Julie of Oklahoma city, Cynthia Dockins and husband Tim of Duncanville, Texas; nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Jack W. Parrish Endowment fund in care of Boy Scouts of America, last Frontier Council, 3031 NW 64th St., Oklahoma City, OK. 73116.

The fund was established to benefit scouts with special needs.

Doris Parsons

Funeral services for Seminole resident Doris Mae Parsons are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday, May 20, 2007 at the First Baptist Church in Prague.

Brother Tim Emmons will officiate.

Burial will follow in Little Cemetery and will be under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service of Prague.

Parsons departed this life on Friday, May 18, 2007 in Seminole at the age of 81.

She was born to Earl and Ora Lee (Biffel) Day on Feb. 18, 1926 in Prague.

She married Harold Parsons on Nov. 22, 1958 in Seminole.

Parsons was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.

Parsons is survived by her husband, Harold, of the home; one san and daughter-in-law, Tommy and Sandy McAnally, Marlow; two daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia "Pat" and Richard Hand, Prague and Teresa and Allen Steffy, Seminole; one brother and sister-in-law, James and Elsie Day, Kema, Texas; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Triston Parsons

Graveside services for the infant son of Chris and Ronesa (Notah) Parsons of Wewoka are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday at Middle Creek #2 Cemetery with Rev. frank Moppin officiating.

Triston Caddell Parsons died Saturday, Feb. 10, 2007 at Shawnee Unity Hospital.

Surviving are his parents; brothers, Micah Notah, Johnny Notah, Jeremy Notah, Samuel Notah, Michael Weger and Bubbles Gordon and grandparents, Ronald Notah, Marilyn McGeisey and Bob Condren Sr.

Parsons

Willa Parsons

Willa Faye Parsons, longtime Seminole and Shawnee resident, age 80, passed away July 8, 2007, at her home in Tulsa with her family by her side.

Mrs. Parsons was born Aug. 2, 1926, at Wildhorse, Okla., to Campbell Wallace and Janie Ruth (Farmer) Smith. She was raised in the Seminole and Shawnee area before she moved to Tulsa in 1994.

Willa Faye was a longtime manager for the Handy Dandy Convenience Store Chain in Tecumseh and Shawnee stores until her retirement.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Odis M. Parsons, in 1993. They were married on Nov. 6, 1946, in Pawhuska. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Campbell Wallace and Janie Ruth Smith, and seven brothers and sisters.

She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Jerry Baxter of Tulsa, and one son and daughter-in-law, Darrell and Susan Parsons of Shawnee.

Other survivors include her grandchildren, Bob Baxter, Robbie Baxter of Tulsa, Ronnie and John Parsons of Seminole, and Emily and Amanda Parsons of Shawnee; and her great-grandchildren, Brandi and Brandon Baxter of Tulsa, Ethan and Liberty Parsons of Seminole, and many nieces and nephews.

Graveside services are planned for Wednesday, July 11, 2007, at 2 p.m. Services will be held at Little Cemetery in Seminole County. Rev. Jim Cook is set to officiate the service.

Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, 100 W. Strother, Seminole, Oklahoma 74868.
