Joe Azlin

There are no services planned at this time for Wewoka resident Joe Clayton Azlin.

Arrangements are under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home, Wewoka.

Azlin, 86, died Monday, March 31, 2008 at Pioneer Nursing Home, Seminole. He was born Oct. 19, 1921 in Seminole to Tony and Hester (Chandler) Azlin.

On Jan. 6, 1947 he married Lois Burnell in Seminole and she preceded him in death on May 15, 1985.

He worked at Tinker Air Force Base n Oklahoma City as a civilian truck driver and retired a number of years ago.

Azlin also farmed west of Wewoka and during his spare time he enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening.

His parents and siblings: Price Azlin, Luther Azlin, Lila Azlin, Ruby Carol, and an infant brother, also preceded him in death.

Surviving is hia son, Bobby Joe Azlin of Wewoka; daughter, Vickie Ann Maye of Seminole; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Chris Bailey

A memorial service for Maud 3rd grader, Christopher "Chris" Bailey, will be held 1 p.m. on Tuesday at First Baptist Church of Maud with Glenn Peck officiating.

Services are under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.

Chris, age eight of Tecumseh, passed away Monday, Dec. 31, 2007 in Harjo, Okla. He was born April 4, 1999 in Shawnee to David Bailey and Sherry Lynn (Adams) Simon.

He was a lifelong Pottawatomie County resident and was currently attending Maud Elementary.

Chris loved to play video games; fire second-stage model rockets; go fishing and watching OSU football. He’s ride the wheels off of his bike but mostly he enjoyed helping his family.

His grandmother, Margaret Adams, preceded him in death.

Surviving is his mother and stepfather, Sherry and Robert M. Simon of Harjo; father, David Bailey of Shawnee; brothers: James Bailey, Randy Cowan, and Kyly Rogers-Simon; sister, Jennifer Simon; uncles: Mark Higgins, Charlie Bailey and Albert "Sonny" Adams; aunts: Dee Adams, Scarlett Higgins, and Aunt Levina; grandpa, "Papa" Joe Simon; great-grandmother, "Grandma" Helen Simon; and cousin, Nakota Higgins.

Paul Baker

Paul E. Baker went to be with his Lord and Savior at the age of 88.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, July 10, 2008 at the Grantham Funeral Home in Duncan.

Pastor Chris Brown of Full Life Fellowship of Decatur, Texas, and former Pastor of the First Assembly of God in Waurika, officiated.

Interment followed at Resthaven Memorial Gardens.

Paul was a member of the Bethel Assembly of God Church during much of his life and was most recently a member of the Full Life Fellowship in Decatur, Texas, where he has resided the past several years with his daughter Linda.

Paul was born in Crescent on January 3, 1920.

He was in the plumbing business since 1940, lived in Wewoka 39 years and moved to Duncan in 1964 to work as a Plumbing Contractor, retiring in 1994.

He was married to Bertie Baker for 60 years.

Paul served in the U.S. Air Force.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Bertie Baker, in 2001.

His survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Henry and Doris Baker of Waurika; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Chris Brown of Decatur, Texas; daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Don McMahon of Oklahoma City; one sister, Susie Harrison; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a host of relatives and friends.

Pallbearers were Dustin Paramore, Steve Paramore, Shawn Flatford, Mike Good, Larry Good and Terry Brown.

Vivian Bakken

Vivian Lavon Bakken, 58, of Wewoka, died Saturday, Oct. 25.

Services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 30, at the Pentecostal Holiness Church, 8th and Echo, in Holdenville, where she was an active member. Reverend Jerry Orsburn will officiate the service and interment will immediately follow, at Holdenville Cemetery under the direction of Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home.

She was born in Wewoka, on Nov. 6, 1949, to Ray Clayton Price and Jacquelin Johnson Price.

She is preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Brenda Diane; and one brother, Jackie Rae.

She is survived by three sisters, Linda Evans, of Holdenville, Phyllis Crockett, of Inola, and Patricia Bradley, of Holdenville; four children, Edward "Lee" Price, of Holdenville, Charles Norris, of Lindsay, Melissa Rogers, of Holdenville, Joe Bakken, of Sasakwa, and seven grandchildren.

Phillip Ball

Phillip Roy Ball was born Oct. 19, 1925 to Frank C. and Sara Nee Allen Ball. He attended grade school in the West Point community, southwest of Yukon. He then attended Yukon High School, where he was very active in athletics and drama, graduating in 1943.

He enlisted before graduation and was inducted in the U.S. Navy immediately thereafter. He was in the V-12 and NROTC officers’ training program and was commissioned in 1945. His service duty included submarine patrol, light cruiser gunnery officer and landing craft.

He married his high school sweetheart, Lois Virginia Gramkow on the day of his commissioning. Following discharge from the Navy, he returned to the University of South Carolina, where he received B.S., B.A. and M.ED degrees with ODK honor. He played six years of college football counting his time in the service and received All-Conference and All-American recognition while playing.

He and Lois had two children, Donna and Keith. The family returned to Oklahoma and Phil began a 15-year career as a high school coach and mathematics teacher. He had very successful teams at Wewoka, Walters, Seminole and Muskogee high schools. He coached two State Championship football teams, had numerous all-state athletes and many who became college athletes.

He was an outstanding advanced math teacher and was twice selected to represent Oklahoma high schools in Summer Math Institutes. In 1964, Phil became the head football coach at Central State. Phil became the head football coach at Central State College (now University of Central Oklahoma) and coached through the 1976 season. During that time he coached 26 players who made All-American one or more times and three players who were NFL draft choices, as well as three players being later named Distinguished Former Students at UCO.

He taught in the Health and Physical Education and Recreation (HPER) Department. Upon retiring from coaching, he completed his doctoral degree at Oklahoma State University. He taught until his retirement in 1993, specializing in Exercise Physiology and Coaching Preparation.

He was an active church member throughout his life and a member of the Edmond First Methodist Church since 1964. During those years he was a teacher of the Fellowship Class and was at one time President of the Wesley Foundation Board.

Phil was a long time member of the Edmond Lions Club and twice was President. He also was active in the Friendship Force and ORCTC travel clubs because he and his wife enjoyed traveling abroad and hosting international visitors to Oklahoma. Other hobbies included bridge, reading and current issues.

Coaching honors included being selected to the Oklahoma Coaches Hall of Fame, High School Coach of the Year, and Collegiate Conference Coach of the Year. He served as President of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Football Coaches and was a presenter at various coaching clinics.

In his teaching field, he served as President of OAHPERD and was selected to its Hall of Honor and served on several Southern District OAHPERD committees.

Following retirement he devoted time and energy to volunteer work including the ERMC Hospital Auxiliary, Mobile Meals, Breakfast on Boulevard and the Coffee Creek Riding Academy.

He was extremely proud of his and Lois’s children and grandchildren and was devoted to this immediate and extended family.

Phil was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lois of 62 years; his father and mother, all his aunts and uncles; and brother Dick Ball.

He is survived by his daughter, Donna Hirst, of Iowa City, Iowa; son Keith Ball and wife Marti Jourden, of Oklahoma City; grandchildren Matthew Hirst and wife Morgan, of Austin, Texas and Amy Hirst, of Iowa City, Iowa; sister, Eileen Belcher and husband Tom, of Tulsa; sister, Marjorie Moesel, of Oklahoma City; sister, Ruth Harvill, of Yukon; sister-in-law, Civilla Ball, of Yukon; sister-in-law Norma Gallien and husband Henry, of Mobile, Ala., and numerous nephews and nieces.

Memorials may be made to the Phil Ball Scholarships UCO Foundation, Edmond Mobile Meals or charity of one’s choice.

Memorial Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. on Saturday Nov. 22nd, at Edmond First United Methodist Church of Edmond, 305 E. Hurd Street, Edmond.

Services are under the direction of Matthews Funeral Home.

Leland Bancroft

Graveside services for former Seminole resident Leland Alfred Bancroft are scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday at Little Cemetery.

Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.

Bancroft, 79, died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2008 in Ventura, Calif., following a prolonged illness. He was born on May 31, 1928 in Holdenville to George and Ethel (Clark) Bancroft.

He grew up and lived most of his life in Oklahoma and moved to California with his family in 1973.

Leland was a retiree od Exxon Mobil, a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, and graduated from Wewoka High School and the University of Arkansas.

Leland’s focus and passion in life was his family. He was a loving and devoted husband to Betty Bancroft, his wife of 54 years, and his two children: Janet and Russell Bancroft. Janet preceded him in death.

He adored his granddaughter, Jordan Bancroft, born to Russell and his wife Shelly. He especially cherished the hand-drawn pictures and notes she made for him.

The family would like to express their special thanks and appreciation to the family and friends who went above and beyond over the years.

"Your love and support in all its forms made an incredibly difficult situation workable and bearable. You know who you are and we love you."

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donors give to their favorite charity,

Stephen Banks

Funeral services for Shawnee resident Dr. Stephen Lynn Banks M.D. are scheduled for Saturday, July 26, 2008, at 10 a.m., in the Raley Chapel at OBU. Pastor Larry Sparks and Pastor Robbie Roberson will officiate, under the direction of Walker Funeral Service.

Interment will follow at Dale Cemetery.

Banks died Tuesday, July 22, 2008, in Shawnee, at the age of 46.

He was born April 4, 1962, in McAlester, to Bob and Jan (Rogers) Banks.

He attended Crowder High School and graduated as salutatorian in 1980, then went on to receive a bachelor’s degree in chemistry — with honors — at East Central University in 1984. In 1988, Banks received his doctorate of medicine at the University of Oklahoma Medical School, and he finished three years of residency in internal medicine in 1991.

Banks married Cindi Davis of Yukon on June 20, 1987.

From 1991 to 1995, Banks served in the U.S. Air Force at Tinker Air Force Base, reaching the rank of major. He was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal and received an honorable discharge.

He was employed as a physician of internal medicine and gastroenterology at Shawnee Medical Center Clinic.

Banks was a member of the American Medical Association, the American College of Physicians, and the Oklahoma State Board of Medical Licensure.

He attended Hazel-Dell Baptist Church.

Banks was selected in 2008 as "Man of the Year" for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Oklahoma.

He loved spending time watching his children play baseball and basketball and any other activities they were involved in. He enjoyed working outdoors and playing the guitar and drums.

Banks was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Charley and Hazel Rogers, and his paternal grandparents, Murray and Marie Banks.

He is survived by his wife, Cindi, of the home; five sons, Bradley Banks and wife Lene of San Antonio, Texas, Brandon Banks of Ada, Jeffrey Banks of Edmond, and Daniel and Caleb Banks, of the home; his parents, Bob and Jan Banks of Shawnee; brother, Eddie Banks and wife Liz of Palm Coast, Fla.; father and mother-in-law, Les and Jan Davis of Leander, Texas; brothers-in-law, Mike Davis and wife Jaudon of Ft. Worth, Texas, and Mark Davis of Mustang; three aunts, three uncles, and many cousins, nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
