Evelyn Clevedland

Evelyn Cleveland, 74 year old, lifelong Seminole resident, died Thursday, Oct. 9, in Moore. She was born Dec. 31, 1933, in Carroll County, Ark., to Luther Ward Furguson and Gracie Jewel (Guess) Furguson.

She married Claude Alvin Cleveland on Dec. 17, 1951, in Wewoka. He preceded her in death in January, of 1974.

Cleveland was a homemaker and worked in the food service industry at several area restraints including Bev’s Beef and Rye, Dairy Cup, Our Daily Bread, and Leatha Steak House. She was also a member of the Seminole First Free Will Baptist Church.

Survivors include one son, David Cleveland, of Fayetteville, Ark; six daughters, Linda Thompson, of Seminole, Jan Jernigan, of Moore, Claudine Bellows, of Moore, Debbie Lupton, of Moore, Judy Hester, of Seminole, and Teresa Cleveland, of Moore; two brothers, Chester Furguson, of Eufaula, Hubert Furguson, Of Seminole; two sisters, Opal Bellows, of Denton, Texas and Barbara Grant, of Cromwell.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Claude Cleveland, and by one sister, Dixie Cooper.

Funeral services were scheduled for 1p.m. Monday, Oct. 13, at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel, in Seminole. Rev. Kevin Daniels and Rev. Allen Wood officiated the service. Internments followed at Little Cemetery, north of Seminole.

Casket bearers were her grandsons; Shawn Cleveland, Jason Bellows, Brian Bellows, Tyler Bellows, Shane Hester, Luke Hester, Zackery Lupton, and Josh Jernigan.

Services were under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, in Seminole.

Evelyn Cleveland

Funeral services for lifelong Seminole resident Evelyn Cleveland are scheduled for 1 p.m., Monday , Oct. 13, 2008 at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole.

Revs. Kevin Daniels and Alan Wood will officiate the service.

Interment will follow at Little Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Seminole.

Cleveland died Thursday, Oct. 9, 2008 in Moore at the age of 74.

She was born to Luther Ward Furguson and Gracie Jewel (Guess) Furguson on Dec. 31, 1933 in Carroll County, Ark.

Casket bearers will be her grandsons: Shawn Cleveland, Jason Bellows, Brian Bellows, Tyler Bellows, Shane Hester, Luke Hester, Zackery Lupton and Josh Jernigan.

Judy Cloud

A wake service Wewoka resident Judy (Tiger) Cloud is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday at Sand Creek Eufaula Baptist Church.

Funeral services are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Sand Creek Eufaula a Baptist Church with Rev. Houston Tiger and Rev. Lewis Johnson officiating.

Burial is to follow at Tiger Family Cemetery under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home, Wewoka.

Cloud, 74, died Monday, Jan. 8, 2008 in an Oklahoma City hospital after a long illness. She was born Nov. 24, 1933 in Lima Stone, Okla., to Rev. Joe Tiger and Annie (Hulbutta) Tiger.

She attended Chilocco Schools until the 11th grade and worked at Oakridge Nursing Home in Wewoka. Cloud worked in housekeeping as a laundry facilitator until she retired in 2003.

Cloud was a member of Sand Creek Eufaula Baptist Church and Ocese Band, and Beaver Clan.

On Aug. 22, 1952 she married Lee Cloud and he preceded her in death in June 2003. Her parents also preceded her in death.

Surviving are her children: Leo Cloud, Cleo Cloud, Winifred Cloud, Tammy Cloud, Christopher, and Stanley Cloud, all of Oklahoma City, Patti Gibson of Shawnee, Lucy Carranza and Pam Paredes, both of Dallas, Texas, Nona Johnson of Seminole, Ted Cloud of Phoenix, Ariz., and Joseph Cloud of Sapulpa; 32 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and siblings: Rev. Houston Tiger, Martha Bowlegs, Nelli Tiger, and Nora Jacobs, all of Wewoka, Elizabeth Buckner of Oklahoma City, Mary Burgess of Tecumseh, and Myrna Merritt of Seminole.

Pallbearers for the services will be: Francis Miller, Tom Hulbutta, Jackie Hulbutta, Wilson Tiger Jr., Kevin Tiger, and Gregory Tiger. Honorary bearers will be: Elidio Carranza, Rufino Parades, Glenn Gibson and Henry Coker.

Kelly Coats

Kelly Dale Coats, age 39, died on Monday, Sept. 15, in Bethany.

He was born on Aug. 5, 1969, in Oklahoma City, to Glenn Dale Coats, deceased, and Sue (Hudson) Ray.

He was a sportsman, including hunting and fishing. He was a truck driver and a member of the Nazarene church.

He is survived by his mother, Sue Ray, of Newcastle; one son, Michael Dale Coats, of Bethany; three brothers, Phillip Ray Hudson, of Newcastle, and Chris and Donald Coats, of Joplin, Mo.; two sisters, Tamaria Horton, of Newcastle, and Carey Walsh, of Konawa.

His father, Glenn Dale Coats in 1980, preceded him in death.

Services are scheduled for 2p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 18, at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel, in Konawa. Rev. Mitch Williams and Rev. Bruce Christian will officiate.

Pallbearers are Frankie Hudson, Junior Hudson, D.L. Foran, D.L. Foran, Jr., Gary Boyd Chapman, and Bobby Husdon.

Honorary pallbearers are Allen Harris and Christopher Foran.

Mary Cochran

Mary Susan Phillips Cochran was born in Haileyville, to Tydfil Richards Phillips and Frank Benning Phillips on April 4, 1916, and died in Oklahoma City, on Oct. 10. A memorial service is scheduled for Friday Oct. 17, at 4p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, in Wewoka.

The family moved to Wewoka, in 1924 and she lived most of her life there. In 1939 she married Fredric Ervin Cochran and they had a daughter, Susan Cochran Gau. Mr. Cochran preceded her in death in 1982.

Mary Sue was active in community, social and church activities. She was a dedicated Christian and an active member of the First United Methodist Church, of Wewoka where she sang in the choir.

She was a graduate of the University of Oklahoma where she was a member of the Delta Gamma Fraternity and taught school before her marriage.

She was an active member of many organizations, among them: The University of Oklahoma Founders and Touchdown Clubs. She also served four years on the Alumni Advisory Board at O.U.

She was a member of the Oklahoma City Petroleum Club and was a founding member of the Seminole Nation Museum Board. She was also chairman of the Centennial Celebration in Wewoka in 1966, which was the founding organization of the museum itself.

She was an active member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, the Athenaeum Study Club, the Arts and Crafts club and the Hyacinth Garden Club, of Wewoka.

She enjoyed traveling in Europe and around the world. Her special interests were music and art. She sponsored and directed a girls’ Sextet in the local school for five years. She studied art from many teachers and received recognition for her paintings.

Mary Sue and Fred Cochran founded Cochran Chemical Co., Inc. in Wewoka in 1959 and she continued as an active participant as the Chairman of the Board until her death.

Mary Sue was a loving, devoted wife and mother, as well as a doting grandmother to her two beloved granddaughters and her five great grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Mr. and Mrs. William E. Gau, of Midland Texas, two granddaughters and grandsons Benning Gau Ratliff and Gregory M. Ratliff, and Jordan Gau Thompson and Eric A. Thompson, five great grandchildren, Phillip, Mills Morgan, Porter Ratliff and Davis and Gray Thompson, all of Nashville, Tenn. a brother, Frank B. Phillips, Jr., two nieces, Kimberly Phillips, and her daughter Hayley Hite, Bronwyn and Rick Rack, and their children Jill and Lad Rack all of Houston Texas, as well as R. Tyler Rack Ramadi, Iraq, as well as her adopted family, Nancy and John LeVesque, their children Brooke and Norman, LeVesque all of Yucaipa, Calif. and John Norman Wewoka.

Mary Sue had many special friends that she loved and adored.

Barry Coker

Funeral services for area resident, Barry Gene Coker, age 39, died in Stillwater, on Wednesday, Sept. 17.

Coker was born April 17, 1969, in Claremore, to Cora Lee (McComb) and Edmond Lee Coker.

He was a graduate of Holdenville High School, Class of 1987, and attended college at Murray State.

He was a veteran of Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm, and an activated member of the 2120th Supply and Service Company in the Oklahoma National Guard.

Surviving are his children: Brooke L. Coker, Trask X. Coker, and Debra J. Coker, all of Holdenville and Catlin P. Coker, of Chandler; his mother, Cora Coker, of Wewoka; and his father, Edmond Coker, of Holdenville

A wake service will held Sunday, Sept. 21, from 6 to 8p.m., at Hudson Philips Funeral Chapel, in Holdenville.

Services will be held Monday, Sept 22, in the Hudson Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, in Holdenville.

Internment will take place in a family cemetery, in Hughes County.

Tommy Colbert

Funeral services for Seminole native Tommy Colbert are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at Galilee Temple of Praise and Deliverance, 338 W. Russell, Seminole.

Interment is to follow at Westwood Cemetery, west of Wewoka, under the direction of Keller Funeral Home, Boley.

Colbert, 64 of Plainfield, N.J., died Friday, Feb. 29, 2008 at Muhlenburg Regional Hospital in Plainfield, N.J. He was born Jan. 21, 1944 in Seminole to Booker T. and Grace Lee (Johnson) Colbert.

He attended Seminole Public Schools for 12 years and graduated from SHS in 1962. Colbert was the vice president if his senior class and lettered in basketball, track and football.

In 2007, Colbert was among those chosen as a member of the Seminole High School Hall of Fame.

He married Connie Robinson and attended Lyons Institute of Technology in Newark, N.J. Colbert was a certified dental technician and owned a dental laboratory in Plainfield, N.J.

His parents preceded him in death.

Surviving is his wife of the home; two daughters: dawn Latigo of Long Beach, N.J., and Lisa Colbert; three grandchildren; and two sisters: Marilyn Pope of Desoto, Texas, and Betty Colbert of Pueblo, Colo.

Cecil Coley

Funeral services for Oklahoma City resident Cecil J. Coley are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, July 26, 2008, at John M. Ireland Funeral Home and Chapel in Moore, under the direction of John M. Ireland Funeral Home and Chapel.

Interment will follow at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 26, at Wolfe Cemetery in Seminole County.

Coley died July 21, 2008, at the age of 77.

He was born June 26, 1931, to Ranes and Lela Coley in Red Oak.

He was a member of Indian Mission Assembly of God.

Coley’s hobbies included singing, playing cards, and riding.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and was a truck driver for Oklahoma Tomato for 12 years.

Coley was preceded in death by his parents, Ranes and Lela Coley; and two brothers, Soloman Coley and Wilburn Coley.

He is survived by his wife Bettery; three children, Ulus Coley, Cecilia Garcia, and Wayne Wolfe; stepchildren, Dallas Ceeley, Leon Merriman, Cathy Raines, Billy Merriman, Gerald Merriman, and Terry Merriman; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two brothers, John Coley and Joe Coley; three sisters, Dolly Scott, Bydia Pope, and Sue Jefferson.
