Elvon McGuire

Elvon "Bud" Leroy McGuire, age 89, died Sunday, Nov. 9, at his residence, in Konawa.

He was born on Sept.16, 1919, in Chickasha, to James Porter McGuire and Ruthe (Cooper) McGuire. He married June (Roquemore) Easley on Sept. 26, 2005, in Holdenville.

He was and aircraft mechanic and a member of the American Legion, in Konawa. He camped, and traveled, and went to church.

He is survived by his wife, June McGuire, of the home; two sons, James McGuire, of Lexington, and Ronnie McGuire, of Sanger, Texas; one brother, Richard McGuire, of Tucson, Ariz.; and two sisters, Naomi Mitchell, of Tulsa, and Georgia Farmer, of Clovis, Calif.; eight grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Ruthe McGuire; his first wife, Veneta, who died in 1991; one daughter, Carol Faye McCraw who died in 2004; two brothers; and one sister.

Services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13th, at First Baptist Church, of Konawa. Burial with U.S. Army Military Honors will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery, in Sulphur, James Swain will officiate.

Pallbearers are Marvin Patterson, Larry Mays, Bill Isaacs, Greg Gray, Van Chew, and Donn Pease. Honorary pallbearers are Stanley Johnson and Landis Clark.

Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, of Konawa.

Lorene Mercer

Graveside Services for Seminole resident Lorene Mercer, are scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 23, 2008 at Holdenville Cemetery in Holdenville with Chris Stinnett officiating the service.

Mercer, 90, died on May 20, 2008 in Shawnee.

She was born December 8, 1917 in Lamar, Oklahoma to Elena (Thompson) Cox and George Cox.

She married William Claud Jackson who preceded her in death on February 1, 1947.

She later moved to Seminole 18 years ago from Elk City.

Mercer worked as a Supervisor for Southwestern Bell until her retirement and was also a member of the Seminole Church of Christ.

Survivors include two sons; Dan Jackson, Holdenville, and Lee Cox, Pampa, Texas and one stepson, Wendell Mercer, Littleton, Colorado.

Also surviving are two grandchildren, two great grandchildren and a host of other family and dear friends.

Casket bearers will include Gary Lane, Roger Lane, Teddy Tedford, Justin Murrell, Garland Wright and David Haskins.

Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.

Charles Middleton

Charles Raymond "Sam" Middleton was born on June 7, 1934, in Seminole County, and departed this life on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2008, at his home in Meeker, at the age of 73.

Funeral services were held today at 3 p.m., at the Prague Cemetery with Bro. Tim Emmons officiating.

Interment followed in the Prague Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Prague.

Raymond, the son of Herbert Elmer and Donnis Marie (Burkhalter) Middleton, had been a resident of the Prague area most of his life.

He was married to Barbara Jane Johnson on March 24, 1954 and she preceded him in death on Jan. 1, 2000. He was a retired machinist and mechanic.

He was also preceded in death by parents, three brothers and three sisters.

Raymond was a Veteran, having served with the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Johnny and Betty Middleton of Macomb, Raymond Gene and Vickey Middleton of Paden; one daughter and son-in-law, Darla Jane and Joe Dugger of Texas; one brother, Kenneth Middleton of Bethany; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Edith Milburn

Funeral services for Shawnee resident Edith Anna Milburn are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday at Cooper Funeral Chapel with Rev. Will Bentley officiating.

Burial is to follow at Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.

Milburn, 95, died Monday, May 12, 2008 in Shawnee. She was born July 27, 1912 in Tribbey, Okla., to Walter D. and Nannie S. (West) Whitaker.

She was raised and lived most of her life in Trousdale and the surrounding area. She moved to Tecumseh in 1972. Milburn graduated from Tecumseh High School.

On Nov. 26, 1930 she married Calvin C. Milburn in Tecumseh and she was a homemaker, as well as a helper to her husband on the farm.

She was a member of the Broadway United Methodist Church in Tecumseh and she enjoyed doing crafts.

Her parents and husband (Dec. 4, 1991) preceded her in death.

Surviving is daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and James H. Rogers of Wewoka; grandchildren: Deborah and Robert Gale of Muldrow, Okla., and Dale and Donna Rogers of Las Vegas, Nev.; two great-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.

Billy G. (Yogi) Miller

A memorial service for the brother of two Wewoka residents is scheduled for Saturday, July 5 at 1 p.m. a Wewoka Indian Baptist Church.

Miller, 58, died on June 16, 2008 in Claremore.

He was born on September 21, 1949 in Wewoka Oklahoma to Amos and Edna Miller.

Miller was a welder by trade.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Charles D. Miller and sister Theresa Miller.

Four brothers; Johnny Miller, Tulsa, Lewis Miller, Oklahoma City, Solomon Miller, Choctaw, Mike Miller, Shawnee; two sisters, Sally Harrod and Suzanne Lackey, Wewoka, and a host of nephews, nieces, family and friends survive Miller.

Dealva Miller

Dealva (Austin) Miller, age 84, died Saturday, Oct. 4, in Holdenville.

Services were scheduled for 10a.m. Monday, Oct. 6, at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel, in Konawa. Rev. Kevin Wright will officiate, and burial will follow at Vamoosa Cemetery.

Miller was born Nov. 30, 1923, in Shamrock, Texas, to T.J. Austin and Emma Cora (Beaty) Austin. She married Otto Miller on Nov. 29, 1941, in Perryton, Texas.

She served as a Nurses Aid for twenty-five years. She moved to Oklahoma from Texas in 1986. She cooked, sewed, and did housekeeping and was a member of the First Baptist Church, in Konawa.

She is survived by, two sons, Sam Miller and Tommy Miller, both of Holdenville; one brother, Boyd Neal Austin, of Canadian, Texas; two sisters, Alice Lister, of Shamrock, Texas, and Alta Mae Scott, of Borger, Texas.

Her parents; her husband, Otto Miller; and one sister, Juanita Kenny, preceded her in death.

Eula Mills

Funeral services for former longtime Seminole County resident Eula Mae Mills are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole, with Don Gill officiating.

Eulsa will be buried at the Little Cemetery with services being under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.

Eula, 95, died Tuesday, June 10, 2008 in her daughter’s home in Ventura, Calif., after a prolonged illness. She was born July 4, 1912 in Valley View, Texas to Frank and Nettie Thomas.

She grew up and lived the vast majority of her life in and around Seminole and only moved to California with her family in 2005 due to her advanced age.

Eula’s sole passion in life was her husband Leon, and her church community. She was a loving and devoted wife to Leon, who died a very early death, and mother to Betty.

She adored her granddaughter, Janet; her grandson, Russ; and her great-granddaughter, Jordan. Janet preceded her in death.

The family would like to express their special thanks and appreciation to the family and friends who went above and beyond over the years in both Seminole and Ventura.

Your love and support in all its forms made an incredibly difficult situation workable and bearable.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests consideration of contributions to a favorite charity.

Reford Mills

Longtime Seminole resident Reford Eugene Mills went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, Oct. 20, at his home at the age of 72.

He was born on April 18, 1936 in Alex, to Albert Brookshire and Claudia Clarissa "Bo" (Keith) Mills.

He married Verleah Carol (Pitts) Mills on June 9, 1957, in Seminole.

In 1958 he worked for R.G. Scott Well Service and later worked for Oklahoma Sub Pumps where he built and repaired oilfield pumps. He worked in the Seminole Oilfield for over forty years, retiring in 2005.

He was a member of the Assembly of God Church and was a former officer of the Seminole Elks Lodge where he served as Trustee and Outer Guard. He enjoyed camping and fishing with his family.

He is survived by his wife of over 51 years, Carol Mills, of the home, two sons and daughters-in-law: Michael and Connie Mills, of Seminole, Shelldon and Eiko Mills, of Oklahoma City, two daughters and a son-in-law: Regina Maxwell, of Plano, Texas and Toni and Donnie Pack, of Murphy, Texas, two brothers and sisters-in-law: Bobby Dale Mills and wife Ranee and Sammy Lewis Mills and wife Dorothy, of Alex, two sisters and a brother-in-law: Reba Nell Chandler and husband Leroy, of Lindsey, and Joyce Elaine Dees, of Alex. Seven grandchildren: Kristie Hoskins, David Aaron Redwine, Darla Demmings, Terry Neese, Ashlei Merideth, Derrick Pack and Kylina Mills, seven great grandchildren, Kylee Hoskins, Hayley Merideth, Mylee Pack, Dalton Wise, Courtney Wise, Jessica Neese and Colton Neese and a host of other family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents and one grandson Marcus Eugene Mills.

Pallbearers will be: Bobby Dale Mills, Bobby Dale Mills, Jr., Douglas Gene Dees, Ronnie Dean Dees, and Lawrence Dale Babb, and Sammy Lewis Mills.

Honorary Bearers: Wade Ashlon Budge, Patrick Eugene Lee, Robert Edward Lee, Russell Neal Moyer and Bobby Wayne McCurdy.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Friday, Oct. 24, at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with Donnie Knight officiating. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, in Seminole.

Tyson Mills

Funeral services for Tyson Lynn Mills of Chickasha are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at the McRay Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Charles Bishop will officiate.

Services are under the direction of McRay Funeral Home. Interment is to follow at Carnegie Cemetery in Carnegie.

Mills, 19, died Wednesday, May 7, 2008 in Chickasha. He was born Feb. 9, 1989 in Chickasha to Rodger B. Mills and Kimberly Oliphant Mills Jones.

His grandfather, Norman Claude Oliphant, preceded him in death.

Surviving is his father, Rodger Mills of Seminole; mother, Kimberly Jones of Chickasha; grandmother, Muriel Marie Oliphant of Chickasha; and grandparents, Gene and Nellie Mills of Ft. Cobb.

Edwardine Miner

Graveside services for Wewoka resident Edwardine Miner are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at Oakwood Cemetery with Lendal Bolin officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home, Wewoka.

Edwardine F. Miner, 81, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2008 in Oklahoma City. She was born in Pochantas, Ark. on July 22, 1926 to Berna (Hastin) and Edward L. Finley.

She married Ralph E. Miner on June 28, 1947 in Wewoka, where they lived for 47 years until his passing in 1994.

Throughout her lifetime, she worked in her family grocery store, was SWBT operator, a kindergarten teacher, and registrar at Wewoka High School.

She loved being involved with all her family, many friends, and her community. Her faith was strong and she was a longtime member of the Wewoka Church of Christ and later joined the Oklahoma City Mayfair Church of Christ.

After her husband’s passing, she moved to Oklahoma City where she continued her community involvement by serving as a volunteer at Integris Baptist Hospital.

She loved her family deeply and was involved with and close to each one, passing on to each one her strong family values. She made many friends and nurtured those relationships her whole life.

Edwardine was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and her only sister and her husband, Alda Belle and Gordon Ratliff.

She is survived by two sons and their wives: Greg and Lynda Sue, Patrick and Linda Gail; two daughters: Alda Kay Miner and Alison Miner; niece and husband, Barbara and Joe King; Ralph’s surviving sisters, June Grimes and Betty Brooks and husband Jim.

She also leaves behind six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many relatives and friends, each of which she cherished.
