Jose Sabas

Funeral services for Wewoka resident Jose Esqueda Sabas are scheduled for 11 a.m. today at Swearingen Funeral Home, Father Basil Kennan, O.S.B. officiating.

He will be laid to rest next week in Villa Juarez, Aguascalientes, Mexico. Arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home, Seminole.

Sabas, 35 of Maumelle, Ark., died Saturday, April 19, 2008 in Wewoka. He was born Oct. 2, 1072 in Aguacalientes, Mexico to Faustino Sabas Marinez and Francesseca (Esqueda) Sabas.

He was a brick mason for Sabas Construction. In February 2002 he married Suzzanne Hawkins in Oklahoma County.

Surviving is his wife of Maumelle, Ark.; his parents of Rancho Nuveo, Aguacalientes, Mexico; four brothers: Juan Antonio, Angel, Juan and Phillpe Sabas; and six sisters: Maria, Rosa, Elvida, Leticia, Chico and Moni Sabas.

Serving as casket bearers will be: Neptali Vera, Jerry Andrews, Joshua Welch, and Lupe Martinez. Honorary bearers will be: Jesse Martinez, Kristopher Welch, and Eric Welch.

Estell Sanders

Graveside Services for Wewoka resident Estell Joyce Sanders were scheduled for 2p.m., Friday, Aug. 29, at the pavilion of Oakwood Ceme-tery, with Pastor Robert McClure of First Freewill Baptist Church officiating.

Estell died, Tuesday, Aug. 26, in Shawnee, at the age of 83 years.

Sanders was born March 19, 1925 in Wetumka, a to Elder Ray and Ira Bell (Carter) Joyce.

She attended New Lima schools.

Estell married Fred Sanders, July 19, 1940 in Wewoka.

She was a Member of First Free Will Baptist Church of Wewoka.

She formerly worked for Muirs Quick Meals, Big Yank,

and Edna Looney's Craft Store. She worked a number of years for Wewoka Schools as a Cook.

In her spare time she loved sitting on her porch, visiting with family and friends. She loved to read and take care of people and her Church Family.

She was a wonderful person and will be missed by her family and friends.

Preceding her in death are her husband on April 30, 2007, parents, son Alvie Sanders, brothers, Denver, Marvin, Johnny, Raymond, and Jack Joyce, Sisters, Ora Lee Tarpley, Sunny Andrews, and Mary Sherrin.

Survivors include Daughters, Sue Smith of Wewoka, Linda Sanderson and husband, Larry of Wewoka, Rita Orr and husband, Victor of Choctaw, Grandsons; Johnny Orr, Mark Sanders, Todd Sanders, Rusty Smith, and Mitch Smith, Granddaughters; Cindy Nix, Andi Hair, Christy Weaver, Amy Brannan, and Kim Paris. Twenty-two Great-Grandchildren and eight Great-Great-Grandchildren.

Kari Sanders

Memorial services for Sasakwa area resident Kari Lavon Sanders are scheduled for Wednesday, May 21, 2008 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the home of Steve James, 21517 Skaggs City Road in Tecumseh.

Arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Konawa.

Sanders passed away on Friday, May 16, 2008 at her residence at the age of 49.

She was born on Feb. 11, 1959 in Bartlesville to Kenneth Sanders and Georgia Lavon (Abbott) Sanders.

As a child, Sanders was a Tricky Trotter and enjoyed playing basketball.

Sanders began nursing school with only a seventh grade education.

She became an LPN and was a very caring and compassionate person.

She loved life and enjoyed spending time at the lake or ocean and also enjoyed roller skating.

Sanders was preceded in death by her father.

Sanders is survived by her two children, Steve James and Brandy Hale, both of Tecumseh; her mother, Lavon Sanders; one brother, Kenny Sanders; one sister, Kylee Finley, and six grandchildren.

Merle Ollie Sanders

Graveside services for longtime Seminole resident Merle Ollie (Ray) Sanders are scheduled for 2 p.m. on Wednesday, July 2 at Maple Grove Cemetery in Seminole with Rev. Forrest Weast officiating.

Sanders, 91, died on Saturday, June 28 at St. Johns Hospital in Tulsa.

She was born on February 17, 1918 in Clarksville, Ark. to George Arthur "Ollie" and Beulah May (Dalton) Ray.

She married Edward Frank Sanders in April 1936. The couple moved to Seminole in 1952.

Sanders was a homemaker and a member of First Assembly of God Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, David Sanders, Seminole; four brothers, Jim Ray, Shawnee, Hartsel Ray of Kentucky, Shifford Ray, Wetumka, M.L Ray of Mississippi and a three grandchildren.

Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole.

Brandon Sanford

A procession to evening prayer services for Holdenville resdient Brandon Lee Sanford began today at 4 p.m. at Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home, Holdenville.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at Middle Creek #2 Baptist Church with Rev. Frank Moppin and Rev. George Harjoche officiating.

Burial is to follow the service at the Church Cemetery under the direction of Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home.

Brandon passed away tragically on Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2008 at 31 years of age. Brandon was born Oct. 7, 1976 in Wewoka to Danny Lee Sanford and Lela Warledo.

He was a longtime resident of Holdenville and a member of Middle Creek #2 Baptist Church.

Brandon graduated from Holdenville High school and was employed by Bronco Drilling and a member of the Seminole Nation of Oklahoma.

His niece, Ashley Nicole Sanford, preceded him in death.

Surviving are his parents, Danny and Shirley Sanford of Holdenville, and Lela Warledo of Tulsa; two brothers: Matthew Sanford of Holdenville and Joe Sanford of McAlester; one sister, Kelona Lena; paternal grandparents, Jean Carpenter and Kenneth Sanford, both of Holdenville; maternal grandmother, Georgia Harjo of Wewoka; and a nephew, Kamden Arnn.

All who knew him as a kind and loving family member and friend, will feel Brandon’s absence.

William Sartor

Private family graveside services for William Andrew Sartor, Jr., are scheduled fot take place at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Services are under the direction of Moore’s Eastlawn Chapel Tulsa.

Sartor, 55, died suddenly on Sunday, April 6, 2008. He was born Jan. 5, 1953.

He received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Pharmacy from Southwestern Oklahoma State; a Master’s of Science in Management from Abilene Christian University; and a Doctorate in Osteopathy from Oklahoma State University College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Sartor retired from medical practice in Seminole.

Surviving is his son, William Andrew Sartor III; his father, William Andrew Sartor, Sr.; and sister, Jan Sartor Smith.

Walter Schoaps

Funeral services for Walter Robert Schoaps are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Forest Park Westheimer in Houston, Texas.

Walter Robert Schoaps, 85, died on Monday, Jan. 14, 2008 in Conroe, Texas. He was born in Detroit, Michigan on Jan. 5, 1923 to Mary Crisan and Florian Schoaps.

He finished high school in South Lyon, Michigan and joined the U.S. Army on Feb. 2, 1942. He served with distinction in B Company, 103rd Infantry, 43rd Division for three years in the South Pacific during World War II, where he earned the Purple Heart and Combat Infantry Badge along with other service awards.

He received an Honorable Discharge on July 11, 1945. In 1947, he married Ada Francis Terral and they lived in Houston, Texas for 40 years.

He is survived by two children, Karen and Birch Blaine of Humble, Texas and Steve and Lisa Schoaps of Seminole; two grandchildren, Christine Schoaps of Stillwater and Robert Schoaps of Norman; sisters, Helen Heinz and Barbara Jackson of Michigan; and special friend, Kay Schrack, of Conroe, Texas.

He is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews and many friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to "Food For Kids – Seminole, Oklahoma " in care of the Oklahoma Regional Food Bank.

Carl Schreiner Jr.

Col. Carl S. Schreiner Jr. of Norman, Okla., passed from this life on July 13, 2008, in the presence of his immediate family.

A graveside service will be held at 9 a.m., Thursday, July 17, 2008, at Fort Sill National Cemetery in Elgin, Okla., with Reverend Frank H. Kernan officiating, with full military honors by the U.S. Air Force.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, July 16, 2008, at Havenbrook Funeral Home in Norman.

Carl was born on March 19, 1923, in McAlester, Okla. He grew up at the Amerada Switch near Seminole, Okla.

He attended Pleasant Grove School and graduated from Seminole High School in 1942.

He married Wanda Lee Crawford on April 20, 1943.

Carl was a veteran of World War II, flying 65 combat missions over North Africa, Italy, France, and Germany. After the war he served in the U.S. Air Force Reserves and the Oklahoma Air National Guard.

In his 35 years of military service he received 26 commendations, awards, and decorations including two Purple Hearts and The Distinguished Flying Cross.

He attended East Central State College and the University of Oklahoma, earning a degree in geology as well as letters in football at both colleges.

After college, he moved his family to the oil fields of West Texas, living in Midland to pursue a career in exploration geology and seismology. He later lived in Oklahoma City, Shreveport, La., Littleton, Colo., and Tulsa before retiring in Norman.

He was a lifelong OU fan and was inducted into the 2007 Class of Seminole High School Hall of Fame by the Honorable Dr. David Boren.

Carl is survived by his wife of 65 years, Wanda; and two sons, Dr. Carl S. Schreiner III and wife Linda of Duncan, and Dr. Terry J. Schreiner and wife Debbie, also of Duncan, Okla.

He had four grandchildren; Dr. Carl S. Schreiner IV and wife Mia of Roseburg, Ore., Kristen Lee Linden and husband Darren of Owasso, Okla., Dustin W. Schreiner and wife Sunny of Bozeman, Mont., and McKenzie Lee Davis and husband Toby of Owasso, Okla.

He is also survived by four great-grandchildren and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Carl S. and Sally Mae Schreiner and one brother, Henry F. Schreiner.

Carl provided guidance and joy to many and was loved by all. The world is a far better place because he once strode upon the face of this earth.
