Dale Lee Barber
Dale Lee Barber of Molalla died on Nov. 25, 2004 in Willamina at the age of 68. Mr. Barber was born on March 18, 1936 in Oregon City to Earl and Gladys Barber. As a child he lived in White Salmon, Wash. He graduated from Forest Grove High School in 1954. Dale married Jean Callahan in 1955 and they lived in the Willamette Valley until settling in Molalla in 1969 then move to Willamina in 2002 where he remained until his death. Dale worked for Lenon Implement in Woodburn for 32 years in the parts department. Dale enjoyed bowling, gardening and traveling and loved to collect John Deere toy equipment. Survivors include his wife Jean Barber; daughter Iola Barber; sons Raymond and John Barber; brother Richard Barber; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. There will be a funeral service on Wednesday Dec. 1, at 2 p.m. at Molalla United Methodist Church. Molalla Funeral Chapel in charge of funeral arrangements.

Robert Charles Westom
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 2, 2004 at the Molalla Church of the Nazarene for Robert Charles Westom. The service will be followed by a pot-luck dinner at the Molalla Moose Lodge. Robert was born Nov. 1, 1957 in Portland and graduated from Franklin High School. He moved to Mulino in 1988 where he continued to work for Precision Cast Parts as a visual dimensions inspector. In 2002 he moved to Molalla and went to work for Pacific Cast Technologies. He is survived and loved by three sons, two grandsons, two brothers, a sister, his mother and father, family and many friends.

James McClure
James “Papa Jim” O. McClure of Molalla died on Nov. 28, 2004 in Oregon City at the age of 65. Mr. McClure was born on July 26, 1939 in Stilwell, Okla. to R.M and Ona McClure. The moved around the country arriving in Oregon in 1969 and finally settling in Molalla in 1982 where he remained until his death. He married Janet in 1982. Jim was a truck driver for various companies for 20 years and worked for RSG Forest Products, retiring in 2003. He is survived by his wife Janet; son Thomas James McClure; step-sons Monty Foust, James and William Goodman; step-daughters Jamie Posey and Cristy Gilmer; sister Eva Faye Silvers; and one brother Larry McClure and 17 grandchildren There will be a memorial service on Saturday Dec 4, 2004 at 2 p.m. at the Country Christian Church.

Helen Katherine Kirkpatrick
Helen Kirkpatrick of Bend, Ore., died Nov. 22, 2004, at the age of 80. Helen was born in Prineville, Ore. on Aug. 8, 2004 to W. Charles and Johanna Nebiam Clauson. She attended Mulino Grade School. She married John Kirkpatrick in December of 1939 in Oregon City. She was a homemaker and a dairy farmer. She was involved in 4-H and was a member of the Mulino Church. She enjoyed painting, gardening and traveling. She is survived by sons, Bill Kirkpatrick of Molalla, Dick Kirkpatrick of Astoria and Mike Kirkpatrick of Bend and a daughter, Karleen Itschner of Molalla, seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, John. A private service has been held. Deschutes Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Darlene Marilyn Dibala
Darlene Dibala of Silverton died Nov. 25, 2004 at the age of 67. Darlene was born on March 25, 1937 to Sandford and Peggy Strean in Colton. She lived in the Silverton area for the past twelve years. She enjoyed cooking, reading, puzzles and shopping. Her husband, Lauddy preceded her in death in 1995. Survivors are daughters, Collen Engelgau of Silverton, Lorene Husky of Ingleside, Texas; sons, Ervin Dibala of Amity, Rick Dibala of Lexington Ky.; brother, Kenneth Strean and eight grandchildren. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 30 at 1 p.m. at Unger Funeral Chapel in Silverton. Unger Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Helen M. Douglass
Helen M. Douglass of Molalla died on March 7, 2005, in Oregon City, at the age of 87. There will be a celebration of life on Friday, March 18, 2005 at 1 p.m. at Stayton Church of the Nazarene. Helen M. Douglass was born on Sept 27, 1917, in Sterling, Kan., to Roy and Beula Evans. She moved to Molalla in 1965 where she remained until her death. Helen started work at the Cone Caf? in Molalla as head cook and after it closed, she went to work for Earl and Dorothy Burkholder at the Fountain Caf?, also as head cook. After five years she went to work at Arrowhead Golf Course as the head cook. She retired from cooking, then began helping her daughter with her family business, Molalla Telephone Answering Service, for the next 15 years. She loved her grandchildren and was very proud of each of their accomplishments. Matter of fact, she loved all children and always had time to listen to them. Helen was a charter member of the Stayton Church of the Nazarene, which was started by her son Byron Hatch. Survivors include her son Bruce Brown, son and daughter-in-law Pastor Byron and Rosie Hatch, daughter and son-in-law Kowyla and Galen Ettestad and six grandchildren. Remembrances may be given to Stayton Church of the Nazarene. Molalla Funeral Chapel entrusted is in care of funeral arrangements.

Stacey Kent Paxton
Stacey Paxton of Mulino, died of injuries from a motorcycle accident March 1, 2005. He was 51. Stacey was born April 14, 1953, to William and Sylvia (Cleveland) Paxton in Portland. He was raised in Milwaukie where he graduated from high school in 1971. Stacey continued his education at Clackamas Community College and then went on to Southern Oregon University where he received his degree. He also served in the U.S. Navy. On Dec. 31, 1989, he married Nebbie Foster in Las Vegas. They lived in Palm Desert, Calif., where he worked in food service distribution sales. In 1995, they returned to Oregon where he farmed at Mulino. During high school and college, he was a member of the school’s wrestling team. He was a board member and past president of the Clackamas County Master Gardeners. He enjoyed flying, riding motorcycles and gardening. Surviving is his wife, Nebbie; brothers, Joe Delazerda of Estacada and Rudy Delazerda of Oregon City and sister Elizabeth Dixon of Portland. Memorials may be made to the Clackamas County Master Gardeners, c/o Irwin Rogers, 15125 S. Macksburg Rd., Molalla, OR 97038. Services have been held. Estacada Funeral Chapel was in care of arrangements.

Walter T. Wells, Jr.
Walter T. Wells, Jr. of Molalla died March 1, 2005, at his residence in Molalla at the age of 82. There will be a graveside service at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 9 at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland. Walter was born June 4, 1922, in Ryegate, Mont. to Walter T. and Katherine Wells. He moved to Los Angeles as a child, and in 1960 he moved to Molalla where he remained until his death. He served in the U.S. Army Company C, 1st Ranger Battalion during WWII where he spent some time as a POW. He married Donna Wick in 1942. They divorced and Donna preceded him in death in 1993. Then he married Vera Allen in 1972 and she preceded him in death in 1999. Walter worked for Douglas Aircraft in California and Avison in Molalla. Survivors include daughters Cheryl Tuckey, Denyse Lamb and Candyce Courts; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Molalla Funeral Chapel is in care of funeral arrangements.

Gerald ‘Jerry’ Halverson
AURORA — Gerald ‘Jerry’ Halverson of Aurora died Feb. 7, 2005. He was 73. A private service will be held. He was born Dec. 24, 1931, in Newport. He worked as a journeyman carpenter, both self-employed and on union jobs. Jerry married Margaret Waldrop in 1951. He moved back to Portland in 1970 after a short time out of state. He was a member of New Life Foursquare Church in Canby. His hobbies included woodworking. He is survived by wife Margaret of Aurora; sons Gary of Mulino and Greg of Big Bear, Calif.; daughters Brenda Hail of Richland, Wash., Sandra Knight of West Linn and Gail Kraxberger of Canby; brother Roy of Portland; sister Phyllis Keck of Casper, Wyo.; 12 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. Maxine A. Thomas
WOODBURN — Maxine A. Thomas (Taylor) of Woodburn died Feb. 5, 2005. She was 87. A private service will be held. Born Oct. 12, 1917, in Bay City, Mich., she had lived in California and Keizer, before moving to Woodburn one year ago. She worked as a food server in a restaurant and was a member of the Catholic Church, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Keizer Elks Lodge. Maxine Taylor married Quintan Thomas in 1948 in El Centro, Calif. She is survived by sons Maurice Dilts of Chicago and Tommy Wilson of Woodburn; two grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Arrangements are by Simon-Woodburn Funeral Chapel.

T. ‘Ted’ Ben Basaraba
WILSONVILLE — Theodore “Ted” Ben Basaraba of Wilsonville died of a brain hemorrhage Feb. 7, 2005. He was 48. A memorial Mass was held Feb. 11 at St. Cecila Catholic Church in Beaverton. Graveside service was at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland. He was born Aug. 3, 1956, in Portland. He served in the U.S. Army. Ted married Beverly Priest on Aug. 27, 1994. He worked as an information specialist for Home Depot. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, building and collecting model cars, star-gazing with his telescope and bird watching. He was an outdoorsman, he loved animals and music, and his family. He is survived by wife B.J. Basaraba; son Zach; father Nicholas; brother Paul; and sister Sue Holt. Remembrances may be made to Doernbecher Children’s Hospital, the Oregon Humane Society and St. Cecila Church parish and school. Young’s Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements.

Fredrick ‘Fred’ H. Doty
CANBY — Fredrick H. Doty of Canby died Feb. 7, 2005, at a Canby care center. He was 84. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 12, at Bethany Evangelical Free Church. Burial will follow at Zion Memorial Cemetery in Canby. He was born April 23, 1920, in Spokane, Wash., to Edwin and Beth Doty. Fred attended Elwood Grade School and graduated from West Valley High School of Spokane Valley. He attended Simpson Bible School in 1942, and then took a home mission preaching post for a year on an island in Puget Sound near Port Townsend. From 1945-50, he took an assignment with the American Sunday School Union and was a home missionary in the area around La Grande, taking care of visitation for Umatilla, Baker and Union counties. Fred became acquainted with Eleanor Ellis at Canby Grove Bible Camp in 1953. The couple eventually married Oct. 22, 1954, at the Zoar Lutheran Church in Canby. They lived in Spokane for two years after they were married. In 1956, they moved to Canby to take care of Eleanor’s mother. He worked on the farm in Canby also working for Montgomery Ward before he got work with the Canby Post Office. He was a U.S. postal carrier for many years in Canby, retiring in 1984. He was a board member of the Portland Rescue Mission for 30 years. He also taught many Sunday School classes and served as a deacon and an elder for many years in the Bethany Evangelical Free Church. He enjoyed gardening and was an avid pansy grower. He is survived by wife Eleanor of Canby; sons Paul Doty of Sherwood, David Doty of Butteville and Jonathan Doty of Canby; and 15 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by brother Robert Doty. Canby Funeral Chapel is entrusted with his services.

H. Ronald Cutsforth
CANBY — H. Ronald Cutsforth of Canby, formerly of Gervais, died Feb. 7, 2005. he was 67. A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 15, at Cornwell Colonial Chapel in Woodburn. He was born June 6, 1937, in Woodburn. He graduated from Gervais High School in 1956. Ronald retired from working as a fabricator for Gem Equipment. He enjoyed fishing and cooking. He lived in Gervais most of his life, before moving to Canby in 1991. Survivors include companion Pam Moffett of Canby; daughter Carrie McColly of Salem; son H. Ronald Cutsforth Jr. of Salem; stepchildren Jim Moffett of Hillsboro, Andrew Moffett of Woodburn and Brandy Hall of Canby; brother Jerald Cutsforth of Crescent City, Calif.; sister Betty Robinson of Aloha; and seven grandchildren. Nancy Pouliot Black
MOLALLA — Nancy “Bompy” Pouliot Black of Molalla died Feb. 9, 2005. She was 73. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 19, at the Church of the Nazarene in Molalla. She was born July 8, 1931, in Ogdensburg, N.Y. She grew up in New York and moved to Molalla in 1958. Nancy married Bill Jones in New York. She graduated from St. Mary’s Academy and Wallace Secretarial school in Ogdensburg, N.Y. She married Wayne Black on July 5, 1984, in Molalla. She worked for the State Forestry Dept. in Molalla for 25 years before retiring in 1993. She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene and was an active volunteer with the Crossroads Christian Church in Molalla. Survivors include husband Wayne Black of Molalla; sons Jim Jones of Pittsburg, Pa. and Jerry Jones of Lebanon; daughters Janice Conover of Woodburn and Julie Wilberg of Molalla; step-sons Dave Black of Lebanon and Larry Black of Corvallis; step-daughter Nancy Black of Centralia, Wash.; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by stepson Ron Black in 1978.

Evonne N. Cunningham
GERVAIS — Evonne N. Cunningham (Cochran) of Gervais died Feb. 6, 2005, of cancer. She was 66. A funeral service was held Feb. 11 at Brooks Assembly Church of God. Interment followed at Belle Passi Cemetery. Born Nov. 17, 1938 in Plainsville, Kan., she was a homemaker and lived in the St. Louis area west of Gervais since 1965. She enjoyed crafts, church and children. She belonged to the Red Hat Society, Church Missionary Association and was a church school teacher. Evonne Cochran married Algie Raymond “Ray” Cunningham in 1956. She is survived by husband Ray; mother Nina Rose Mills; daughters Eileen Rubino of Salem, Cindy Ahern of Mount Angel, and Sherry Durbin of North Plains; sons William Cunningham of Salem and Ray Cunningham Jr. of Gervais; brother Lyle Cochran; sisters Marlene Askland, Wanda Baker, Opal Mason, Rita Wiederman, Ellen DeSalems, Nancy Weaver, Lee Ila, Phyllis Gomez, and Debbie Troup; 14 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by son Raymond Westley Cunningham, brother Daryl Cochran, and sister Twilla Brattan. Arrangements are by Simon-Woodburn Funeral Chapel. Jesus Lopez
GERVAIS — Jesus Lopez of Gervais died Feb. 8, 2005. He was 93. He was born Dec. 23, 1911, in Laredo, Texas. Jesus married Nieves Ruiz in 1943 in Natchez, Miss., and they made their home in Texas. They moved to St. Paul in 1956, to Gervais in 1970, to California in 1991, then back to Gervais in 2000. He had worked all his life in agricultural farming. He was a member of the Catholic Church and enjoyed gardening. He is survived by his children, Lucia Bustamante of Gervais, Ernestina Lopez of San Jose, Calif., Jesus Lopez of Gervais; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. His wife, Nieves, preceded him in death on June 21, 2004. Arrangements are by Cornwell Colonial Chapel.

Zouri ‘Dixie’ P. Brandt
MOLALLA — Zouri “Dixie” P. Brandt of Molalla, formerly of Woodburn, died Feb. 3, 2005. She was 78. A private family memorial service will be held. She was born March 24, 1926, in Halstead, Kan., the third of six children. In 1944, she moved to Hubbard. She worked at the Oregon shipyards as a welder. She also worked at Woolworth’s and at the Birdseye Cannery in Woodburn. Dixie married Robert “Bob” C. Brandt in 1947. The couple owned and operated the Zoo Auto Park in Hubbard. In 1950, they moved to Woodburn. In 1963, she began working at North Marion Grade School as a teacher’s aide, where she worked until 1989. She then retired, living in Woodburn until she suffered a stroke in 1999. She enjoyed bowling, golfing, pinochle and trips with her loving husband. Her greatest joy was the time spent with her family. Dixie will be remembered always for her loyalty, generosity, loving kindness, hospitality and strength of character, family and friends say. She is survived by husband Bob; daughter Lynnette Zimmer of Canby; sons Steven Brandt of Cornelius and Jeffrey Brandt of Woodburn; sister Laura Jackson of Woodburn; brother Lee Lewis of Taft; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
