Beatty
Wilda M. Beatty, 70, of Monroeville died Feb. 6, 2002.
Born in McKeesport, she was the daughter of Melvin and Mildred Ashbaugh.
Mrs. Beatty was a teacher at Munhall High School.
She was a graduate of Slippery Rock University and a member of Bethel United Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are her husband, Robert Beatty; daughters, Janis Szalanczy of Export and Joann Beatty of Monroeville; an aunt, Myrna Ashbaugh; a sister-in-law, Betty Brown; and a grandson.
Friends were received at Jobe Funeral Home in Monroeville. Interment was at Cross-roads Cemetery.

Stilwell
Evelyn Frances Stilwell, 78, of Pitcairn died Feb. 16, 2002.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Magnus "Gus" Stilwell.
Surviving are her children, Frances McClenahan of Maryland, Larry of Harrison City and Richard Stilwell of Pitcairn; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at Wm. O. Pearce Funeral Home, where a service will be held at 11 a.m. today (Wednesday) with the Rev. Paul Fitzmaurice officiating.
Interment will follow at Penn-Lincoln Memorial Park.

Appel
Sara A. Appel, 73, of Monroeville died Nov. 2, 2002, at Forbes Regional Hospital.
Mrs. Appel was born in Johnstown.
She was a retired nurse.
Surviving are her husband, Dr. Billy N. Appel; her sons, Douglas and Dr. W. Keith Appel; and two grandchildren.
Private arrangements were handled by Gene H. Corl Funeral Home.
A memorial service will be held at noon this Saturday, Nov. 9, at Corl Chapel.

Byron
Mary “Mae” R. Byron, 78, died Nov. 3, 2002, at UPMC McKeesport.
Born in Braddock, she was the daughter of Edmiston and Euphemia (Murphy) Martin.
A retired bookkeeper with Doall Inc., she was a member for more than 50 years at Linway United Presbyterian Church, North Versailles.
Surviving are her husband of 57 years, Glenn Byron; her children, Marylin Roberts of Churchill, Elizabeth Stitt of East Pittsburgh and Glenda Taylor of North Versailles; a brother, Carlton Martin; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today (Wednesday) at Forgie-Snyder Funeral Home, where a service will be held at 11 a.m. this Thursday, Nov. 7, with the Rev. Eric Dennis officiating. Interment will follow at Grandview Cemetery.

DeStefano
Dr. Albert P. DeStefano, 78, of Churchill died Nov. 4, 2002.
He was the son of Anthony and Amelia (Galterio) DeStefano.
Dr. DeStefano was a graduate of Duquesne University and St. Louis University Medical School. He began his general practice of medicine in Wilmerding in 1952 and continued practicing until August 2002.
Affiliated with the former Columbia Hospital and a staff physician at Forbes Regional Hospital. he was an Army veteran of World War II.
Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Regina (Kasper) DeStefano; children, Elyse Jung of Winston-Salem, N.C., Eric DeStefano of Murrysville, Anita Pietropaolo of Canandaigua, N.Y., Gina Kowalki of Blacksburg, Va.., and Ellen Hatton of Farmington, Conn.; a sister, Theresa Charletta; six grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today (Wednesday) at Alfieri Funeral Home in Wilmerding, where a service will be held at 9 a.m. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. this Thursday, Nov. 7, at St. John Fisher Church.
Memorial contributions are suggested to American Diabetes Association, American Cancer Society, American Lung Association or St. John Fisher Parish.

Heriot
Nancy Jayne Heriot, 75, of Homewood died Oct. 31, 2002, at UPMC Presbyterian.
Ms. Heriot was the longtime owner, dancemaster and teacher of Fairgrieve School of Dance in Penn Hills and Allison Park.
A graduate of Winchester Thurston, she received a bachelor’s degree from Carnegie-Mellon University.
She worked for Mellon Institute and U.S. Steel Corp. in the research lab department in Monroeville for 21 years.
Ms. Heriot had studied dance under her late mother, Peter Genaro, Jack Stanley, Carlos and Al Gilbert.
She taught all aspects of dance and Scottish Highland Dancers.
Ms. Heriot was a member of Calvary Episcopal Church.
She was an avid and winning golfer at Churchill Valley Country Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Abbott and Ruth Anna Marion Fairgrieve Heriot; and her brother, James Fairgrieve Heriot.
Surviving are her sister-in-law, Mary Louise Heriot of Wheeling, W.Va.; brother and sister-in-law, William Abbott and Vilma DeJesus Toledo Heriot of Waynesville, Ohio; nephews, James and William and Heriot; nieces, Ruthanne Heriot, Susan Aiello, Nancy Joan Osborn and Dominic Masstrangello; numerous grandnieces and grandnephews; and her Shelties, Buffalo and Shuffle.
Private arrangements were handled by Findlay C. Wylie Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Pennsylvania Wildlife Center, Animal Rescue League of Western Pennsylvania, 9000 Verona Rd., Pittsburgh, PA 15147; or American Heart Association.

Novotny
John Carl Novotny Jr., 67, of Pittsburgh died Oct. 29, 2002.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Carl and Mary Charlotte (McLaughlin) Novotny.
Surviving are his sisters, Rosemary Barbacci of Monroeville and Carolyn Gabos of Roswell, Ga.; brothers, James of Forest Hills and William Novotny of Penn Hills; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends were received at Jobe Funeral Home in Monroeville. Mass was celebrated at North American Martyrs Church.
Memorial contributions are suggested to American Diabetes Association, 300 Penn Center Blvd., Suite 300, Pittsburgh, PA 15235.

Bach
Julia Bach, 87, of Monroeville died Nov. 6, 2002, at Independence Court.
Born July 1, 1915, in Braddock, she was the daughter of Samuel “Molinaro” and Aquiline (Greco) Mullen.
She was a retired worker with 25 years of service in the medical records department of UPMC McKeesport and 10 years of service in the office of Dr. Leo King in McKeesport.
Surviving are her daughters, Beverly Reilly of Hempfield Township and Nancy Harkins of North Huntingdon; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at Striffler Community Funeral Home in White Oak.
A service was held at St. Perpetua Worship Site with the Rev. Vincent Velas officiating.
Interment was at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in West Mifflin.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Hospice of Greater Pittsburgh, 3520 Route 130, Irwin, PA 15642.

Kuftic
Andrew J. Kuftic, 87, of Monroeville died Nov. 6, 2002.
Born in Nanty Glo, he was the son of Andrew and Magdalen (Chlebak) Kuftic.
Surviving are his wife, Viola (Pini) Kuftic; his children, Andrea Getsy, Dennis Kuftic, Norman Kuftic, Vernon Kuftic and Vicki Horne; brothers, John and George Kuftic; sister, Katherine Patrick; and 13 grandchildren.
Friends were received at William F. Gross Funeral Home.
Mass was celebrated at St. John Fisher Church.
Interment was private.

Naser
Virginia Rose (Vaughan) Naser, 83, of Pitcairn died Nov. 9, 2002, at Forbes Regional Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Naser; nephew, William Cornelius; and a niece, Audrey Heitmann.
Surviving are nieces and nephews, Douglas, Dianne and Thomas Cornelius, Barry Staats, Ann Mick Weber, Roland Mick, Jane Gilligan.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 24, at United Methodist Church with the Rev. Alan Morrison officiating.
Interment was at Penn-Lincoln Memorial Park.
