Charles W. George

July 10, 1925 - August 20, 2004

Charles W. George, 79 of Dogwood Court, Saxonburg, died Friday, August 20, 2004 at 3:13 p.m. in Allegheny Valley Hospital, Natrona Heights.

Born July 10, 1925 in Butler, Pennsylvania, he was the son of Roy Glenn George and Mary Matilda Smail.

Mr. George retired with 36 years of service from Armco working in the melt shop and also as a water clarifier. Following his retirement he drove school bus for the Butler Area School District. He was a member of Christ Community United Methodist Church. He enjoyed motorcycle riding and collecting model trains. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in World War II.

Mr. George is survived by his wife, Ellen M. (Dickey) George, whom he marriage on February 2, 1951, by two sons, Dana George of Butler, Pennsylvania, Galen George of Williamstown, West Virginia, two grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, and by several nieces and nephews.

Mr. George was preceded in death by three sisters.

Friends will be received at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, PA, on Sunday, August 22, 2004 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc., Monday, August 23, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. with the Reverend Oden Warman officiating. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Pearl P. Weitzel

December 7, 1917 - August 20, 2004

Pearl P. Weitzel, 86 of Fenelton, died Friday, August 20, 2004 at 9:55 a.m. in Ridgeview Boarding Home.

Born December 7, 1917 in Lyndora, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of Andrew Daniels and Barbara Sibos.

She was a homemaker and attended St. Paul's Catholic Church.

Mrs. Weitzel is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Pearl Marie Palmer of Butler, Pennsylvania, Mrs. William (Nancy) McDowell of Meridian, Pennsylvania, two sons, Clarence (Gene) E. Weitzel, Jr. of Rogers, Arkansas, Darrell L. Weitzel of East Brady, Pennsylvania, nineteen grandchildren and thirty-one Great-Grandchildren, three great great grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Mary Tucci of Butler, Pennsylvania, one brother, Mr. Steven Daniels of McKeesport, Pennsylvania, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Weitzel was preceded in death by her husband Clarence E. Weitzel, who passed away on January 14, 1980by an infant son, two brothers and one sister.

Friends will be received at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, PA, on Sunday, August 22, 2004 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc., Monday, August 23, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. with Father Lewis Pascazi Officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Burial Estates.

Bessie Buchanan

December 4, 1907 - August 19, 2004

Bessie Buchanan, age 96 went home to be with the Lord at 7:50 P.M. August 19, 2004. She formerly resided at Arden Lane in Butler where she made her home with her grandson David and his family. She had been a resident of Sunnyview Home since October 2003.

Born in Mercer, Pennsylvania on the 4th Day of December 1907, she was the daughter of the late Harry Lambert Kuhn and Laura Hilty Kuhn. Bessie loved and honored her parents. Mrs. Buchanan was one of the original charter members of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Butler, and was the oldest member of Faith Fellowship Alliance Church in Butler. She had a servant's heart and was a member of the Women's Alliance and a former Sunday school teacher affectionately known as " Aunt Bessie".

Mrs. Buchanan enjoyed fishing with her husband Ellsworth Harrison Buchanan whom she marriage February 27, 1927, he preceded her in death on April 2, 1976.

She is survived by her loving family, two sons Ellsworth Buchanan and his wife Dolores of Chicora, Pennsylvania and George Buchanan and his wife Betty of Butler, Pennsylvania, two daughters, Hazel Robson of Karns City, Pennsylvania and Dorothy Mincer of East Butler, Pennsylvania, six grandchildren and seven great -grandchildren, Thomas Robson and his wife Myrna and their children Mandy and Angie of Connoquenessing, Pennsylvania, Deborah Robson of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, David Wood and his wife Sherri and their children Jenna and Abbey of Butler, Pennsylvania, Shawn Mincer of Michigan, Colleen Muto and her husband Roger and their daughter Sarah of Fenelton, Pennsylvania, and Joyce Buchanan and her sons Colt and Kerry also one brother William Kuhn of Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by two Brothers, one of which was her twin, two sisters and two son-in-laws Charlie Robson and Howard Mincer.

Friends and family of Bessie Buchanan will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania 16001 on Saturday, August 21, 2004 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. Funeral Services will be from Faith Fellowship Alliance Church, 200 Faithway-Fared Drive, Butler, Pennsylvania 16001 on Sunday, August 22, 2004 at 1:30 P.M. with the Reverend Richard Jenks officiating. Interment will follow in the Greenlawn Burial Estates, Mount Chestnut, Pennsylvania.

Loyal R. Mitchell

January 14, 1914 - August 18, 2004

Loyal R. Mitchell, 90 of North McKean Street, Butler, died Wednesday, August 18, 2004 at 4:45 p.m. in the Chicora Medical Center.

Born January 14, 1914 in Butler, Pennsylvania, he was the son of George A. Mitchell and Rose Raisley.

Mr. Mitchell was the President of Mitchell Insurance, Inc. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. Mr. Mitchell was active with the Butler Kiwanis Club, YMCA board member, member of the State and National YMCA boards, formerly a Butler Area School Board member, Butler County Planning Commission, formerly a member of the Butler County Chamber of Commerce, an elder at Calvary Church and the Church of the Living Word, he was active with the Civil Air Patrol and an active choir member most of his life.

Mr. Mitchell is survived by four sons, Loyal R. Mitchell of Butler, Pennsylvania, John R. Mitchell of Schenectady, New York, William G. Mitchell of Butler, Pennsylvania, Thomas J. Mitchell of Butler, Pennsylvania, one daughter, Susan E. Mitchell of Orlando, Florida, ten grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, one brother, George Mitchell of Los Angeles, California, and by his step-mother, Ursula N. Mitchell of Butler, Pennsylvania.

Mr. Mitchell is preceded in death by his wife, Catherine T. Mitchell, who passed away on July 4, 2004. Friends will be received at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, PA, on Friday, August 20, 2004 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the Westminster Presbyterian Church in America, on Saturday, August 21, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. with the Reverend Michael L. Harvey officiating. Interment will follow in North Side Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Seneca Hills Bible Conference, Post Office Box 288, Franklin, Pennsylvania 16323 or to The Butler YWCA, 339 North Washington Street, Butler, Pennsylvania 16001.

Florence G. Frantz

February 13, 1914 - August 16, 2004

Florence G. Frantz, 90 of Butler, died Monday, August 16, 2004 at 6:00 a.m. in Shelbourne Assisted Living.

Born February 13, 1914 in Lehighton, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of George Koons and Lena Frech.

She was a packer for R.T. French Foods. Surviving are two daughters, Ms. Marilyn Caplan Quinn of Wildwood, Pennsylvania and Mrs. Linda F. Youells of Palm Bay, Florida.

No public visitation or funeral service will be held. Interment will be at Hillside Cemetery in Souderton, Pennsylvania.

Alice W. Raabe Kummer

July 29, 1914 - August 16, 2004

Alice W. Raabe Kummer, 90 of Autumn Grove Care Center, Harrisville, formerly of the Arbors Apartments, Lincoln Avenue, died Monday, August 16, 2004 at 3:25 a.m. in Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born July 29, 1914 in Butler, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of August Raabe and Nancy Hamel.

Mrs. Kummer worked as a machinist for Spade Shirt Factory. She was a member of Golden Age Club, A.A.R.P., Tanglewood Senior Center, and Sunnyview Auxiliary.

Mrs. Kummer is survived by three sons, Charles "Fred" F. Kummer of Jefferson City, Missouri, Ronald A. Kummer of Butler, Pennsylvania, Jack L. Kummer of Laurel, Maryland, one daughter, Mrs. Rudolph (Delores) Bowser of Butler, Pennsylvania, thirteen grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren, a number of nieces and nephews, and two sisters.

Mrs. Kummer was preceded in death by her husband Wilbur F. Kummer, who passed away on March 7, 1972 and by three brothers and three sisters.

Private services. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Burial Estates.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Christ Outreach Church, 120 Walker Avenue, Butler, Pennsylvania 16001 or to the donor's favorite charity.

John W. Menefee, Jr.

September 2, 1918 - August 15, 2004

John W. Menefee, Jr., age 85 of Butler, Pennsylvania passed away Sunday, August 15, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. in the Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born on September 2, 1918 in Ellwood City, Pennsylvania, he was the son of John W. Menefee, Sr.

Mr. Menefee was a retired businessman working in Mars, Pennsylvania. He was member of The First United Methodist Church in Butler and was a veteran of the United States Navy serving during World War II. He was marriage to Jean McCurdy she preceded him in death on December 28, 2000.

He is survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. Also by several great nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for John W. Menefee Jr. will be from the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc. 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania 16001 on Wednesday, August 18, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. with the Reverend J. David Panther of The First United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow in The Butler County Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers the family of John W. Menefee suggest donations to The Blind Association of Butler, 322 N. McKean Street, Butler, Pennsylvania 16001 or to The Butler County Humane Society, 1015 Evans City Road, Renfrew, Pennsylvania 16053
