Eileen June Diehl Steighner

December 1, 1930 - August 28, 2006

Eileen June Diehl Steighner, age 75 of Sunbury Fields, Butler, Pennsylvania, formerly of Brandon Road Butler, Pennsylvania died Monday, August 28, 2006 at 7:34 A.M. in the U.P.M.C. Presbyterian Hospital Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Born December 1, 1930 in Butler she was the daughter of the late Charles Diehl and the late LaCrete McCormick Diehl.

Mrs. Steighner was a homemaker, but for many years she worked as a seamstress for the Bobbie Brooks Clothing Store and as a sales person in the jewelry Department at Boscovs Department Store. During the war she worked for Kennametal as a machine operator producing gun shells. She was a member of St. Andrew's Roman Catholic Church. She enjoyed playing Bingo and also was a connoisseur of homemade noodles.

Mrs. Steighner is survived by her two sons, Ronald W. Steighner and his wife Connie, Richard (Rick) C. Steighner and his wife Brenda both of Butler, Pennsylvania; eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, one brother, Russell Diehl of Butler, Pennsylvania; four sisters, Mrs. Walter Etoile (Tillie) Morey of Butler, Pennsylvania, Mrs. Harold (Vivian) Tribble of Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania, Mrs. Burton (Vanda Mae) Brewster of Meridian, Pennsylvania, Mrs. Alice Raskowski of New Castle, Pennsylvania and also by several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Steighner was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald P. Steighner who passed away on March 7, 2004, they were marriage on June 4, 1949.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Wednesday, August 30, 2006 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the St. Andrew's Roman Catholic Church on Thursday, August 31, 2006 at 10:00 A.M. with Father James Salberg of St. Andrew's Roman Catholic Church officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Burial Estates.

Contributions may be made to The American Kidney Foundation (American Kidney Fund) 6110 Executive Boulevard Suite 1010 Rockville, MD 20852-9813.

Raymond K. "Shorty" Barger

December 4, 1921 - August 27, 2006

Raymond K. "Shorty" Barger, age 84 formerly of Plateau St., Renfrew, Pennsylvania, died Sunday, August 27, 2006 at the Butler V A Medical Center following a lengthy illness.

Born Saturday, December 4, 1921 in Karns City, PA he was the son of the late Raymond Barger and the late Estella Bartley.

Mr. Barger was retired from Strip Shears Dept. for AK (Armco) Steel. He retired in 1982 after 35 years of service. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army Air Corp. and WW II. He served during WW II in the China-Burma-India Theater of operations form 1944 to 1946 and flew 65 missions over the Himalaya Mountains "The Hump" hauling supplies and troops between India and China. He enlisted in the Air Force Reserves in 1947 and served with the 911th Air Group until 1973. From 1974 to 1976 he served with the Army Reserves. He was a member and Vice Commander of the Fort Pitt Basha China-Burma-India Veterans Association. He was a member of VFW Post 249, American Legion Post 778 of Lyndora and was an active member of the WW II Memorial Committee and a member of St. Fidelis Men's Club of Meridian.

Mr. Barger is survived by 2 daughters, Mrs. George (Sharyn) McDonald of Clarion, PA, Mrs. Leslie (Christina) Donaldson of Butler, PA; 2 sons, Richard & Wife Patricia Barger of Hummelstown, PA, William & Wife Lynn Barger of Greensburg, PA; 12 Grandchildren, 12 Great Grandchildren, Number of Nieces and Nephews; 2 brothers, Bernard Barger of Butler, PA, Myron Barger of Gibsonia, PA; 3 sisters, Barbara Ruffner of Spring Hill, Fl., Phyllis Breitmas of Palm Coast, Fl, Sandra Merchant of Butler, PA

Mr. Barger was preceded in death by his wife, Edna M. (Eddie) Barger who died November 21, 1999, also by a Brother, Grandson and Great Granddaughter.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Wednesday, August 30, 2006 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM.

Services will be held at the St. Fidelis Catholic Church on 8-31-06 at 11:00 with Father James Murphy of St. Fidelis Catholic Church officiating. Interment will follow in Bear Creek Cemetery, Petrolia, PA.

In lieu of flower's memorials may be made to the WW II Memorial Fund, Butler County Veterans Services, P. O. Box 1208, Butler, PA 16003.

Military honors will be presented by VFW Post 249 following the funeral mass at St. Fidelis Catholic Church.

Raphael W. "Ray" Baumgarten

May 3, 1943 - August 26, 2006

Raphael W. (Ray) Baumgarten, age 63 of, Tionesta, PA, died unexpectedly Saturday, August 26, 2006 at his residence.

Born May 3, 1943 in Evans City, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Walter Baumgarten and the late Mary F. Anthony.

Mr. Baumgarten was a retired steelworker for AK (Armco) Steel, working in the combustion department. He was a veteran of the U. S. Air Force and Viet Nam War. Mr. Baumgarten was a member of Fryburg Sportsman Club and Forest County Sportsman Club. He was a member of American Legion Post #0066 in Clarion and the National Rifle Association. Mr. Baumgarten was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed riding his quad.

Mr. Baumgarten is survived by his wife, Nita M. Baumgarten whom he marriage on December 19, 1964, by two daughters, Lisa M. Kadunce of Butler, Pennsylvania and Mrs. Thomas (Annette) Valasek of Natrona Heights, Pennsylvania; by one son, Douglas Baumgarten, of Florida; three grandsons, Nick Kadunce, Alex Kadunce, and Andrew Valasek; and also by one nephew.

Mr. Baumgarten was preceded in death by his sister A. Charlene Reddick.

A memorial celebration of his life will be held at the Fryburg Sportsman Club, Fryburg, Pennsylvania on September 16, 2006 from 1:00 to 7:00 PM, for his family and friends. Internment will be in Butler County Memorial Park.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, Pittsburgh Office, 300 Penn Center Blvd., Suite 602, Pittsburgh, PA 15235 or to the Fryburg Sportsman Club, Attention Memorial Scholarship Fund for Mr. Ray Baumgarten, P. O. Box 93, Fryburg, PA 16326.

Karen S. Ferraro

December 10, 1958 - August 25, 2006

Karen S. Ferraro, age 47 of Mahood Road, Butler, Pennsylvania, died Friday, August 25, 2006 at 10:45 p.m. at her residence.

Born December 10, 1958 in LaJolle, California she was the daughter of Harry C. Doty and Betty S. Doty.

Mrs. Ferraro was a Doctor of Chiropractic Medicine, and she also worked for Moses Jewelry. She was a member of the Associated Artist of Butler County and the Butler County Symphony Association.

Mrs. Ferraro is survived by her husband, Frank P. Ferraro whom she marriage on December 9, 1990, by her mother Betty S. Doty of Houston, Texas, her father, Harry C. Doty of Big Springs, Texas, and by a stepdaughter, Ligea Ruff of Boulder, Colorado.

Mrs. Ferraro was preceded in death by one brother and a stepson.

There will be no public visitation or funeral. The arrangements are being handled by Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania.

Earl M. Stamm

October 14, 1911 - August 20, 2006

Earl M. Stamm, age 94 of Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania, died Sunday, August 20, 2006 at 6:45 P.M. in the Slippery Rock Personal Care Home.

Born October 14, 1911 in Franklin Twp. Pennsylvania he was the son of the late Ernest Stamm and the late Minnie Campbell.

Mr. Stamm was a self-employed dairy farmer. He was a member of First Baptist Church, and a member of the Berean Sunday School Class.

Mr. Stamm is survived by two sons, Leroy E. Stamm of Butler, Pennsylvania, William H. Stamm of Boyers, Pennsylvania; eight grandchildren, fourteen great - grandchildren, brother, Warren Stamm of Butler, Pennsylvania, number of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Stamm was preceded in death by his wife, Mary E. McCall Stamm who passed away on August 30, 2005 and also by one daughter, one granddaughter, four sisters, and three brothers.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Tuesday, August 22, 2006 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M.

Services will be held at the First Baptist Church on Wednesday, August 23, 2006 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor David Maitland of First Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Burial Estates.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, 221 West New Castle Street, Butler, Pennsylvania 16001.

Dorothy Irene Pappalard

December 16, 1920 - August 19, 2006

Dorothy Irene Pappalard, age 85 of Meyersdale Manor, Meyersdale, Pennsylvania, formerly of Sunbury Fields Lane, Butler, Pennsylvania died Saturday, August 19, 2006 at 12:10 a.m. in the Meyersdale Manor.

Born December 16, 1920 in Butler, Pennsylvania she was the daughter of the late Wray R. McIntosh and the late Mary Jane Christie McIntosh.

Mrs. Pappalard was a homemaker. She was an active member of Faith United Presbyterian Church and served as a deacon. Mrs. Pappalard was a graduate of Butler High School, class of 1939.

Mrs. Pappalard is survived by son, Dennis W. Pappalard of Allison Park, Pennsylvania; daughter, Nancy J. Meadors of Cumberland, Maryland; nephew, Geoffrey Burns of Kansas City, Missouri; four grandsons, one great-granddaughter, and one great-grandson.

Mrs. Pappalard was preceded in death by her husband, Silvio D. Pappalard who passed away on April 11, 1988, and also by one sister, Ruth Burns.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Monday, August 21, 2006 from 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc. on Monday, August 21, 2006 at 9:00 p.m. with Reverend James W. Campbell of Faith United Presbyterian Church officiating.
