Mary Bogaart Henson

October 17, 1912 - December 1, 2006

Mary Bogaart Henson, age 94 of Orchard Manor, Grove City, Pennsylvania, Canton, Ohio died Friday, December 1, 2006 at 3:00 p.m. in the Orchard Manor.

Born October 17, 1912 in Benevento, Italy she was the daughter of the late Giovani Mazzeo and the late Filamina Caviello.

Mrs. Henson was a retired director of Social Service for Massillon State Hospital, Massillon, Ohio, formerly she worked as director of Canton City Welfare Department under Mayor Cmich. She obtained her Master's degree in clinical social work from the University of Pittsburgh. Mrs. Henson was a member of the Canton Women's Club and Stark County Alumni Association. She had been a delegate to the State Council National Association of Social Workers. Mrs. Henson helped found the County Mental Health Clinic in Canton and helped establish a Planned Parenthood office in Canton, Ohio.

Mrs. Henson is survived by daughter, Jacqueline Utenbogaart and her husband Bruce MacDonald of Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania, her granddaughter, Jamie; one sister, Julia Thompson of Youngstown, Ohio; and one brother, Antonio Mazzeo of Seattle, Washington.

Mrs. Henson was preceded in death by her second husband, Raymond Henson who passed away in 1999, by her first husband Peter J. Uytenbogaart who passed away in 1972, a son Ronald Uytenbogaart and a number of brothers and sisters.

There will be no public visitation or services. Arrangements are being handled by the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania.

Contributions may be made to Hospice Program of the Visiting Nurses Association, 154 Hindman Road, Butler, Pennsylvania 16001.

David R. John Sr.

April 15, 1944 - December 30, 2006

David R. John Sr., age 62 of Chicora Road, Butler, Pennsylvania passed away suddenly on Saturday, December 30, 2006 at 10:43 a.m. in the Jameson Hospital New Castle, Pennsylvania

Born in Butler, Pennsylvania on April 15, 1944 he was the son of Kathryn Hillwig John and the late Joseph B. John.

Mr. John was a member of St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church. He was employed at Pullman Standard for twenty years until their closing. Mr. John also was employed at Sportsman Supply for over twenty years and was currently employed as part of the inventory control department at Bear Metallurgical on the East Butler Road. He was an avid sportsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his mother Kathryn Hillwig John of Vero Beach, Florida, his former wife Sandra L. Koziar of Butler, Pennsylvania, two sons David John Jr. and his wife Lisa of Butler, Pennsylvania, and Joseph John of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania two daughters, Mrs. Thomas (Deana) Palla of Chicora, Pennsylvania and Jodie Bookhamer of Butler, Pennsylvania, one granddaughter, Hannah John and two grandsons, Brent and Chad Spahn, two sisters, Mrs. Wally (Judy) Bandura and Mrs. David (Terri) Proffitt both of Vero Beach, Florida and also by many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father Joseph B. John.

Friends and family of David R. John Sr. will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania 16001 on Wednesday, January 3, 2007 from 7 to 9 p.m. and also on Thursday, January 4, 2007 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 5, 2007 at 10 a.m. at the St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church, Butler, Pennsylvania with the Reverend Father Raymond Trance officiating.

Interment will follow in the St. Patrick's Cemetery, Chicora, Pennsylvania.

St. Paul's Guild and Christian Mothers will meet at 9:40 A.M. at the church to recite the rosary.

Jean E. Vasbinder

August 30, 1919 - August 31, 2003

Jean E. Vasbinder, 84, of Chicora Medical Center and formerly of Jan Drive died at 4:30 a.m. Sunday at the medical center.

Born Aug. 30, 1919, in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of Herman and Hilda Sutter Klein.

She was a homemaker and a former member of the First Baptist Church in Butler.

She is survived by two sons, Charles Vasbinder III of Butler and Kevin Vasbinder of Queenstown, Md.; a daughter, Mrs. Donna Crouch of Bandon, Ore.; a sister, Mrs. Ruth Shay of Butler; a brother, Dale Klein of Chicora; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Vasbinder, who died June 13, 2001, a daughter and a sister.

VASBINDER - Friends of Jean E. Vasbinder, who died Sunday, Aug. 31, 2003, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at THOMPSON-MILLER FUNERAL HOME, 124 E North St. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Dennis Cornelius, pastor at the Chicora Medical Center, officiating. Burial will be in Butler County Memorial Park.

Naomi E. Shaner

December 22, 1928 - August 31, 2003

Naomi E. Shaner, 74, of Connoquenessing died at 1:11 a.m. Sunday at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born in Hadden Heights, N.J., on Dec. 22, 1928, she was the daughter of Gustav F. Eisele and Evelyn Garrison.

She had retired as a housekeeper for Evergreen Nursing Center and had formerly worked for Vic Nor Farms.

Mrs. Shaner was a member of Butler Wesleyan Methodist Church.

Surviving are two sons, William F. Shaner of Renfrew and Richard Shaner of Capron, Va.; three daughters, Evelyn Frankenstein of Zelienople, Mary Belles of Evans City and Margie Fend of Butler; 16 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Her husband, William R. Shaner, died Feb. 19, 1986.

SHANER - Friends of Naomi E. Shaner, who died Sunday, Aug. 31, 2003, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at THOMPSON-MILLER FUNERAL HOME, 124 E. North St. Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. James A. Lynn, pastor of Butler Wesleyan Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Burial Estates, Mount Chestnut.

Memorial donations may be made to Butler Wesleyan Methodist Church, 590 Protzman Road, Butler, PA 16001.

Virginia L. Hurley

May 14, 1937 - September 19, 2003

Virginia L. Hurley, 66 of Cliff Street, Butler, died Friday, September 19, 2003 at her residence. Born May 14, 1937 in Tarentum, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of Homer J. Fish and Maria Kollar.

She worked and retired as a certified Nurses Aid for Butler Memorial Hospital. She was active church member of First United Methodist Church, she was a member of small groups, a volunteer in the church office and for the community meals. Mrs. Hurley was a watercolor artist and the former owner of The Stencil Shop. She had been a former Girl Scout leader. She was an alumnus of Winfield High School and attended the Butler County Community College. Her family thought of her as the "Best Mother", "Grandma", "Sister", and "Aunt" in the world!

Surviving are three Daughters, Mrs. David J. (Jami) Michael of East Brady, Pennsylvania, Mrs. John J. (Sandi) Eppinger of Butler, Pennsylvania, and Mrs. Raymond R. (Misi) Fleske, Jr. of Butler, Pennsylvania, Six Grandchildren, one Sister, Mrs. Joseph H. (Carole) Sauers of Harmony, Pennsylvania, nine Nieces and four Nephews, five Great Nieces and seven Great Nephews.

Preceding her in death was her husband James E. Hurley on May 20, 1992.

Friends will be received at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania, on Sunday, September 21, 2003 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the First United Methodist Church, Monday September 22, 2003 at 1:00 PM with the Reverend J. David Panther officiating. Interment will follow in Butler County Memorial Park.

Shirley J. Patten

December 16, 1940 - September 19, 2003

Shirley J. Patten, 62 of Hoon Road, Butler, died Friday, September 19, 2003 at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Patten was born December 16, 1940 in Butler, PA, she was the daughter of Charles Clifford (Cliff) Aggas and Guyla Morrow Aggas.

She was formerly employed as a secretary for Barron Radio before her marriage. After her family was raised, she worked for over 10 years for the Bon-Ton Christmas Shop. Mrs. Patten probably was most recognized for operating her roadside sweet corn stand on the corner of Route 38 and Pine Tract Road at the site of the former Aggas Service Station, which she operated for 29 years. She enjoyed gardening, lawnwork, traveling and spending time with her grandchildren.

Surviving are her husband Duane A. Patten, who she marriage on November 8, 1963, one Son, Daryl Patten of Butler, Pennsylvania, one Daughter, Mrs. Scott (Renee) Campbell of Montery, California, two Grandchildren, Nicholas and Lucas Patten, her Mother, Mrs.Guyla Aggas of Chicora, Pennsylvania, one Brother, James Robert Aggas of West Mifflin, Pennsylvania, three Sisters, Virginia Hobbs of Butler, Pennsylvania, Mrs. Robert (Vera) Niggel of Chicora, Pennsylvania and Mrs. Robert (Carol) Scott of Butler, Pennsylvania, Peg Aggas her Sister-in-Law of Butler, Pennsylvania, Gary Shay her Brother-in-Law of Fenelton, Pennsylvania, and Paul Patten her Father-in-Law of Butler, Pennsylvania, and her beloved Nieces, Nephews and Cousins.

Preceding her in death were her Father, Charles Clifford Aggas, one Brother, Charles Clifford Aggas, Jr and one Sister, Geraldine Marie Shay.

Friends will be received at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, PA, on Saturday, September 20, 2003 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 and Sunday September 21, 2003 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9.

Services will be held at the Springdale Lutheran Church, West Sunbury, Pennsylvania Monday, September 22, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. with David Adams officiating. Interment will follow in the Concord Cemetery.
