Ruth M. Janicki

November 5, 1930 - November 27, 2003

Ruth M. Janicki, 73 of Easy Street, Butler, died Thursday, November 27, 2003 at Armstrong County Memorial Hospital.

Born November 5, 1930 in Chicora, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of Harry H. Seely and Catherine C. Kehm.

Mrs. Janicki retired as a manager of accounts receivable for Butler County Community College after 29 years. She was Lutheran by faith. Mrs. Janicki was a Butler High School Alumni class of 1948. She was a member of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees and AARP.

Mrs. Janicki is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Imogene Kraus of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Mrs. Carol Clark and her husband Howard of Butler, Pennsylvania, one nephew, Thomas Clark and his wife Donna of Hatboro, Pennsylvania, three nieces, Sue Kraus of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, Cindy Kraus of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Valerie Oxenreiter and her husband Thomas of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, two great-nephews, Andy Clark of Hatboro, Pennsylvania, Brian Oxenreiter of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, three great-nieces, Danielle and Kaitlyn Clark of Hatboro, Pennsylvania, Sara Oxenreiter of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and several cousins.

Preceding her in death was her husband Bernard F. Janicki, who passed away on August 2, 1995.

There will be no public visitation. Arrangements are being handled by Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania.

Interment will be in Butler County Memorial Park.

Victor R. Wise

July 13, 1921 - November 24, 2003

Victor R. Wise, 82, formerly of Eckstein Road in Renfrew, died Monday, November 24, 2003 in Passavant Retirement Center in Zelienople.

Born July 13, 1921 in Butler, PA, he was the son of Earl Victor Wise and Helen Roth.

Mr. Wise was a member of The First English Lutheran Church. He retired as a mail carrier for Butler Post Office in 1980 after 37 years of service. He was a life member of the Butler Elks Lodge #170 and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. Mr. Wise served as a scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troup #12, which met at St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church for twelve years. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving during WWII.

Surviving are his two daughters, Ellen Riley of Houston, TX and Mrs. Elwood (Andrea) Bressler of Curwensville, PA, four grandchildren and one great grandson, two sisters, Mrs. Richard (Evelyn) Clark and Mrs. Lorraine Kesterson of Butler, PA, and a number of nieces and nephews.

His wife, Mary E. Wihelm preceded him in death on September 3, 1999.

Friends will be received at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, PA, from Wednesday November 26, 2003 from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 pm. There will be no visitation on Thursday November 27, 2003 in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday.

Services will be held at the First English Lutheran Church, Friday November 28, 2003 at 11:00 am with the Reverend James W. Dollhopf officiating.

Interment will follow in Butler County Memorial Park. V.F.W. Post #249 will present military honors at the Cemetery.

Paul E. "Joe" Faulk

May 1, 1912 - November 21, 2003

Paul E. "Joe" Faulk, 91 of Butler, died Friday, November 21, 2003 in Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born May 1, 1912 in Butler, PA, he was the son of George Edwin Faulk and Pearl C. Steare.

Mr. Faulk was employed as a shop carpenter for Dillich Lumber Company and Busy Beaver Lumber Company and he retired in 1970. Following his retirement, he was self-employed until 1985.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corp and WWII and he served with the 8th Air Doom Squadron in North Africa. Mr. Faulk also served in India with the 14th Air Corp "Flying Tigers" with General Chenault, on the Burma-China border for two years.

Surviving are his wife, Bonita A. "Bonnie” Doverspike Faulk who he marriage on April 27, 1946, a son, Richard D. Faulk and a daughter, Paula J. Hurley both of San Diego, CA, three grandchildren, three nieces and five nephews. Three brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.

Friends will be received at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, PA, on Monday November 24, 2003 from 7:00-9:00 p.m.

Services will be held at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc., Tuesday November 25, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Butler Area Public Library, 218 North McKean Street, Butler, PA 16001.

Kathryn Beatrice Monjar

October 20, 1914 - November 18, 2003

Kathryn Beatrice "Bea" Monjar, 89 of New Castle Road, Butler, died Tuesday, November 18, 2003 at 6:30 p.m. at Sunnyview Home.

Born October 20, 1914 in Butler County, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of Samuel George Martin and Martha Romaine Black.

Mrs. Monjar worked for Moyers Level Works in Parker, Pennsylvania. She was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church. She was a former deacon at her church, past Royal Matron of Ameranth Lodge of Chicora, past president of Mount Chestnut Women's Club and a former member of Armco golf club. Mrs. Monjar was a member of Parker City chapter #60 Order of Eastern Star.

Mrs. Monjar is survived by her husband Chester Maxwell Monjar, one sister, Mrs. Margaret Ellen Miller of Eau Claire, Pennsylvania, three brothers, Kenneth W. Martin of North Washington, Pennsylvania, Robert J. Martin of Dayton, Ohio, Charles F. Martin of Butler, Pennsylvania, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death was one sister and two brothers.

Friends will be received at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania, on Friday, November 21, 2003 from 11:00 a.m to 12:30 p.m.

Services will be held at the Trinity Presbyterian Church, Friday, November 21, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Burial Estates.

William Robert "Bill" Riding

November 14, 1928 - November 18, 2003

William Robert "Bill" Riding, 75 of Butler, died at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 18, 2003 at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born November 14, 1928 in Butler, Pennsylvania, he was the son of Edward Riding and Eva Christine Foster.

He retired in 1993 as a Fleet Mechanic for BMI Refineries in East Butler. He attended the Butler Free Methodist Church. Mr. Riding was a veteran of WW II serving as a sergeant in the U. S. Army. He served during the occupation of Japan. He received the Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal of Japan. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed tinkering. He was a life member of the Teamsters Union.

Surviving are his wife, Ida Mae Elizabeth Reges Riding who he marriage June 30, 1950, two daughters, Crystal Ann Riding of Butler, Pennsylvania, Cynthia I. Riding of Florida Keys, one sister, Shirley Skillman of New Castle, Pennsylvania, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Riding is preceded in death by eight sisters and 8 brothers.

Friends will be received at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania, on Thursday, November 20, 2003 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc., Friday, November 21, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. with the Reverend David V. Hastings officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Burial Estates.

Contributions may be sent to the Hospice Program of the Visiting Nurses Association, 154 Hindman Road, Butler, Pennsylvania 16001.

Esther "Jane" Smith

August 20, 1925 - November 16, 2003

Esther "Jane" Smith, 78 of West Pearl Street, Butler, died Sunday, November 16, 2003 at Sunnyview Home.

Born August 20, 1925 in Butler, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of Alonzo Byron Gardner and Sara Mae Maxwell.

She was a homemaker. Mrs. Smith worked at Butler Armco as a mail carrier in her earlier years and as a receptionist for Dr. Thompson in her earlier years. She graduated from Butler High School in 1943. She was a member of a charter member of Trinity Presbyterian Church. In Mrs. Smith's younger years she was involved in the Butler Kindergarten Program, P.T.A., Girl Scouts, and many activities at her church. She also enjoyed bowling in Coins league, Couples league and the Met A league. She also enjoyed camping and home canning.

Mrs. Smith is survived by her second husband William Jacob Smith, whom she marriage on January 3, 1957, two daughters, Mrs. Kenneth (Connie) Cornibe, Mrs. Edward (Cindy) Hamil both of Butler, Pennsylvania, four Grandchildren, a step-daughter, Evelyn Smith of Las Vegas, Nevada, one sister, Mrs. Dorothy Miller of Butler, Pennsylvania, one niece and two nephews.

Mrs. Smith is preceded in death by her first husband John Pringle who passed away on November 24, 1953, one son, one step-daughter and one brother.

Friends will be received at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania, on Tuesday, November 18, 2003 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the Trinity Presbyterian Church, on Wednesday, November 19, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow in Butler County Memorial Park.
