July 14, 1925 - February 26, 2004

Dorothy R. McClelland, 78 of Butler, died at 2:13 a.m. Thursday, February 26, 2004 in Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born July 14, 1925 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of John Kennedy and Dorothy R. Jones.

Mrs. McClelland was employed as a financial consultant for Federated Investors and she was a homemaker. She was an avid bingo player and she was an alumnus of Sacred Heart High School in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Surviving are her husband Donald R. McClelland who she marriage on January 28, 1956, one son, John M. McClelland of Lucedale, Mississippi, five daughters, Mrs. Thomas P. (Sheila A.) Powers of East Butler, Pennsylvania, Mrs. Walter (Joan E.) Tolfa of Butler, Pennsylvania, Mrs. Daniel (Stacey J.) Pellerin of Leeds, Maine, Mrs. Troy (Joyce K.) Collins of Owings, Maryland, Mrs. James (Gail M.) Wright of Dayton, Ohio, fifteen grandchildren., two great grandchildren, a number of nieces and nephews, and one sister, Mrs. Marjorie Westhoff of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania.

One son preceded Mrs. McClelland in death.

Friends will be received at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, PA, from Sunday February 29, 2004 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the St. Andrew's Roman Catholic Church, Monday March 1, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. with Father James Salberg officiating. Interment will follow in Queen of Heaven Cemetery in McMurray, Pennsylvania.

Memorial contributions may be sent to American Cancer Society, Butler County Unit, P.O. Box 3014, Butler, Pennsylvania 16003.

Anna Irene Olson

February 24, 1912 - February 28, 2004

Anna Irene Olson, 92 formerly of North Sixth Avenue and North Duffy Road, Butler, died Saturday, February 28, 2004 at 4:40 p.m. in Sunnyview Home.

Born February 24, 1912 in Brent, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of Fred King and Leah Atkinson.

She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Olson is survived by her daughter, Mrs. John (Lillian) Gibson, Sr. of Butler, Pennsylvania, one son, Ronald and Darlene Olson of Butler, Pennsylvania, six grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren, and two nieces.

Mrs. Olson is preceded in death by her husband Benjamin Franklin Olson, who passed away on July 19, 1967 and by one sister and two nephews.

Friends will be received at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania, on Tuesday, March 2, 2004 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc., Wednesday, March 3, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. with the Reverend J. David Panther of First United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Burial Estates.

Contributions may be sent to Hospice Program of Visiting Nurses Association, 154 Hindman Road, Butler, Pennsylvania 16001 or to Butler County Humane Society, 1027 Evans City Road, Renfrew, PA 16053.

Charlene F. "Sherry" Bosko Robinson

December 13, 1946 - February 29, 2004

Charlene F. "Sherry" Bosko Robinson, 57 of Clearfield Road, Fenelton, died Sunday, February 29, 2004 at 9:16 p.m. in Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born December 13, 1946 in Butler, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of Stephen Bosko and Evelyn Kinser Hillberry.

She was Lutheran by faith. She was active with the Grape Vine.

Surviving are two daughters, Christine Robinson of Monroeville, Pennsylvania, Mrs. Scott (Lori) Seaton of State College, Pennsylvania, her mother, Evelyn Hillberry of Butler, Pennsylvania, two sisters, Gail Arvay of Sarver, Pennsylvania, Mrs. Michael (Pamela) Phillips of Butler, Pennsylvania, a number of nieces and nephews, and a number of aunts and uncles.

Preceding her in death were her grandparents and her father.

Friends will be received at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania, on Tuesday, March 2, 2004 from 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc., Wednesday, March 3, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. with the Reverend James W. Dollhopf from First English Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will follow in Butler County Memorial Park.

David R. John Sr.

April 15, 1944 - December 30, 2006

David R. John Sr., age 62 of Chicora Road, Butler, Pennsylvania passed away suddenly on Saturday, December 30, 2006 at 10:43 a.m. in the Jameson Hospital New Castle, Pennsylvania

Born in Butler, Pennsylvania on April 15, 1944 he was the son of Kathryn Hillwig John and the late Joseph B. John.

Mr. John was a member of St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church. He was employed at Pullman Standard for twenty years until their closing. Mr. John also was employed at Sportsman Supply for over twenty years and was currently employed as part of the inventory control department at Bear Metallurgical on the East Butler Road. He was an avid sportsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his mother Kathryn Hillwig John of Vero Beach, Florida, his former wife Sandra L. Koziar of Butler, Pennsylvania, two sons David John Jr. and his wife Lisa of Butler, Pennsylvania, and Joseph John of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania two daughters, Mrs. Thomas (Deana) Palla of Chicora, Pennsylvania and Jodie Bookhamer of Butler, Pennsylvania, one granddaughter, Hannah John and two grandsons, Brent and Chad Spahn, two sisters, Mrs. Wally (Judy) Bandura and Mrs. David (Terri) Proffitt both of Vero Beach, Florida and also by many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father Joseph B. John.

Friends and family of David R. John Sr. will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania 16001 on Wednesday, January 3, 2007 from 7 to 9 p.m. and also on Thursday, January 4, 2007 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 5, 2007 at 10 a.m. at the St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church, Butler, Pennsylvania with the Reverend Father Raymond Trance officiating.

Interment will follow in the St. Patrick's Cemetery, Chicora, Pennsylvania.

St. Paul's Guild and Christian Mothers will meet at 9:40 A.M. at the church to recite the rosary.

Gerald A. "Jerry" O'Rourke

September 27, 1931 - December 27, 2006

Gerald A. "Jerry" O'Rourke, age 75, of Glenwood Drive, Butler, Pennsylvania, died Wednesday, December 27, 2006 at 10:45 a.m. in the West Penn Hospital, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Born September 27, 1931 in Hempstead on Long Island, New York, he was the son of James F. and Mildred McGuire O'Rourke.

He had been a criminal investigator with the Maryland State Police and a deputy U.S. Marshal with the U.S. Department of Justice. He was employed in security management positions at the 1964-65 New York World's Fair, the Flying Tigers Cargo Airline and the Franklin Stores Corp. He became self-employed in 1978 as an independent security management consultant and established Strategic Controls in New York, N.Y.

From 1960 to 1964 while with the U.S. Marshals Service, he participated in the enforcement of federal school integration orders in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. He was part of a contingent of U.S. marshals that protected the Freedom Riders from Birmingham to Montgomery Alabama in 1962 and was one of the three U.S. Marshals immortalized in a Norman Rockwell Painting during the integration process.

Following the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, he was one of the U.S. Marshals selected to protect Robert Kennedy in the Washington, D.C. area.

Mr. O'Rourke was a member of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church and served on the Safety/Security Committee of the Diocese of Pittsburgh Schools.

He was a graduate of DeMatha Catholic High School, the Maryland State Police Academy, the U.S. Marshals Academy and the Security Management Institute and the John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York City. From 1984 to 1995, he was an adjunct instructor at John Jay College, where he taught physical security. He was a founding member of the Maryland State Police Alumni Association. He was a founder of the International Association of Professional Security Consultants, where he was designated a Meritorious Life Member. He was also a member of the American Society for Industrial Security International.

He was a nationally recognized expert in apartment house security and was the author of "Apartment House Security 101." During the Korean War, he served as a hospital corpsman in the Navy and received the American Spirit Honor Medal and an appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy.

Surviving are his wife, Anne Bryan O'Rourke, whom he marriage June 10, 1978; his children from his first marriage, Maureen Darragh, Kathleen Dryland, Timothy, Sean, Charles and Daniel O'Rourke, all of Long Island, New York and Mary Dolan of Dallas, Texas; two sisters, Carol Powers of Lenexa, Kan., and Mildred Martin, and eleven grandchildren.

Two brothers preceded Mr. O'Rourke in death.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Friday, December 29, 2006 from 6 to 8.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church on Saturday, December 30, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. with the Reverend Father Harry R. Bielewicz officiating. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery.

Robert T. Burns

November 27, 1912 - December 26, 2006

Robert T. Burns, age 94, of Saxony Health Care, formerly of Miller Street, Butler, Pennsylvania, died Tuesday, December 26, 2006 at 10:25 p.m. at the Saxony Health Center.

Born November 27, 1912 in Wallasey Cheshire, England, he was the son of Daniel Allan and Lilian Gertrude Tassell Burns.

Mr. Burns was a Butler City plumbing inspector and was the former manager of the Mifflin Apartments. He was a member of Tanglewood Senior Center. He enjoyed gardening and ballroom dancing.

He became a citizen of the United States on July 9, 1972.

Mr. Burns is survived by his daughter, Mrs. Craig (Nancy) Daugherty of Butler, Pennsylvania; two sons, Ronald G. Post of Timpson, Texas and Larry J. Post of Tucson, Arizona; nine grandchildren, a number of great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Burns was preceded in death by his wife, Mona Jean Watt Burns, who was deceased January 3, 1990, and by two sisters and three brothers.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Friday, December 29, 2006 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9.

Services will be held at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc. on Saturday, December 30, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Clark Sawyer, pastor of Hill United Presbyterian Church, officiating. Interment will follow in Butler County Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be made to Tanglewood Senior Center, 10 Austin Avenue, Lyndora, Pennsylvania 16045.
