Carmen A. Oliva

August 19, 1914 - November 15, 2008

Carmen A. Oliva, age 94 of Butler, passed away Saturday, November 15, 2008 at 7:57 p.m. in the Butler Veterans Administration Medical Center.

Mr. Oliva was born August 19, 1914 in West Winfield, Pennsylvania to Italian immigrants Samuel Oliva and Josephine Dellasala Oliva.

Mr. Oliva attended school in West Winfield. He is a member of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church. Mr. Oliva was also a member of the Joseph T. Black, VFW Post # 249 and a fifty-year member of the United Commercial Travelers. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. Since 1954 he has been a self-employed barber in Butler.

Mr. Oliva is survived by his wife, Mabel Cooper Oliva, whom he marriage on July 6, 1945 at the Rectory at St. Mary's in Herman. He is also survived by two daughters, Patricia and her husband Chuck Montag and Beverly Silbaugh both of Butler, Pennsylvania, by one son, Thomas Oliva of Houston, Texas, by six grandchildren, Michael Montag and his wife Sherry of Butler, Michele Colvard and her husband Jeffrey of Pittsburgh, Matthew Montag and his wife Christina of Butler, Pennsylvania, Ryan Silbaugh of Cranberry Township, Lisa Adkins and David Oliva both of Houston, Texas. In addition he is also survived by two step-grandchildren, Scot Silbaugh and his wife Becky of Ohio and Lisa Silbaugh of Virginia, by five great-grandchildren, Sarah, Oliviah, Ethan and Jacob Montag of Butler, Pennsylvania and Kade Adkins of Houston, Texas.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.

Friends and family will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania 16001 on Wednesday, November 19, 2008 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, November 20, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church with the Reverend Father James Dolan officiating. Interment will follow in The Greenlawn Burial Estates, Mt. Chestnut.

Pastor Bill Gumpper

April 12, 1958 - November 13, 2008

Pastor Bill Gumpper, age 50 of Butler, Pennsylvania, died Thursday, November 13, 2008 at his residence.

Born April 12, 1958 in Butler he was son of John Gumpper and the late Marian Stover Gumpper.

Bill Gumpper was the Pastor of Congregational care for First United Methodist Church. He graduated from the Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, Illinois with a Bachelor of Science degree in Bible and Aviation. He and his wife were missionaries with Mission Aviation Fellowship MAF and served in Africa in the countries of Botswana and Zimbabwe for seven years. In 2002 he returned to Butler and became a staff member of the First United Methodist Church. He was attending Trinity Seminary to pursuing his masters in divinity.

Pastor Gumpper is survived by his wife, Donna Gumpper whom he marriage on August 20, 1988, his children Christopher and Abigail of Butler, two brothers John Gumpper, Jr. and Robert Gumpper both of Butler, a sister Nancy Fretwell (Gumpper) of Bradford Woods and his father John Gumpper of Butler and step-mother Joan and a number of nieces and nephews.

Pastor Gumpper was preceded in death by his mother, Marian.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Saturday, November 15, 2008 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. and also on Sunday, November 16, 2008 from 12:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Services will be held at the First United Methodist Church on Monday, November 17, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. with Reverend Dr. J. David Panther of First United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow in North Side Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Donna Gumpper, c/o Gateway Bank account number 1010005369, 900 Commonwealth, Suite #100, Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania 16066, for the financial benefit of his children.

Dennis J. Kummer

April 16, 1950 - November 12, 2008

Dennis James Kummer, age 58 of White Oak Drive, Renfrew, Pennsylvania, died Wednesday, November 12, 2008 at 2:37 p.m. in the Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born April 16, 1950 in Butler, Pennsylvania he was the son of Doretha A. Logan Kummer and the late Henry S. Kummer, Jr.

Mr. Kummer was a telephone lineman for North Pittsburgh Telephone Co. He was a member of the Meridian United Presbyterian Church. Mr. Kummer was a member of the VFW in Evans City. He enjoyed motorcycles, vintage John Deere Tractors and restoring VW Bugs.

Mr. Kummer is survived by his three sons, Todd Kummer of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Mark Kummer of Milton, Florida, Brian Kummer of Butler, Pennsylvania; his mother, Doretha A. Kummer; one grandchild, Benjamin Kummer; his fianc�e, Bernice Adams, by three brothers, Russell Kummer of Butler, Pennsylvania, Ronald Kummer of Columbus, Ohio, David Kummer of Butler, Pennsylvania; and by nine nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Friday, November 14, 2008 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, November 15, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. with the Reverend Dr. J. David Panther of First United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Jack Reay, Sr.

May 7, 1917 - November 10, 2008

Jack Reay, Sr. age 91 formerly of Spruce Street, Butler, Pennsylvania now a resident of Newhaven Court, Butler, Pennsylvania died Monday November 10, 2008 at 5:28 p.m. in Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born May 7, 1917 in DuBois, Pennsylvania he was the son of the late Thomas Reay and the late Annetta (Smouse) Reay.

Mr. Reay was a graduate of DuBois High School and moved to Butler in 1947. He retired from International Staple and Machine Company in 1980 after eighteen years of service. Mr. Reay was formerly employed by the B&O Railroad as a machinist at the Dubois and Butler Roundhouses. He was a member of the Hill United Presbyterian Church. Mr. Reay was a former member of Victory Lodge #694 F&AM, DuBois Moose and Elks Club, M.O.R.A., A.A.R.P., Butler County Horseshoe League, Steelworkers Union #6189. Mr. Reay served as a Republican Precinct Chairman for many years. He was an avid sports fan.

Mr. Reay is survived by one son Gary and his wife Marcia Reay of Butler, one brother William and his wife Mitzi Reay of DuBois, Pennsylvania one daughter-in-law Sonia and her husband Thomas Trinko of Hooker, Pennsylvania six grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Reay was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy (Greaves) Reay whom he marriage on May 29, 1941 who passed away on March 16, 1989, two sons, Thomas A. Reay and Jack Reay, Jr. four brothers and two sisters.

Friends will be received at the Thompson- Miller Funeral Home, Inc, 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Thursday November 13, 2008 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Services will be held at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc. on Thursday November 13, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Clark Sawyer of Hill United Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the Butler Public Library, 218 E. Jefferson Street, Butler, Pennsylvania 16001.

John D. "Jack" Dunmyre

January 13, 1929 - November 10, 2008

John D. "Jack" Dunmyre, age 79 of Concordia Haven, Cabot, Pennsylvania, died Monday, November 10, 2008 at 9:15 a.m. in Sunnyview Home.

Born January 13, 1929 in Butler, Pennsylvania he was the son of the late M. Clark Dunmyre and the late Elizabeth Walters Dunmyre.

Mr. Dunmyre was a welder for Pullman-Standard until its closure in April of 1982. He was a member of St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church. Mr. Dunmyre was a veteran of the U. S. Army Signal Corps as a photographer during the Korean conflict. He was also a member of the Franklin Elks Lodge #110 in Franklin, Pennsylvania.

Mr. Dunmyre is survived by his family, Mrs. Thomas (Betsy) Olson of Sarver, Robert and Kathey Olson; Eric, Lisa and Blake Olson, Steven Olson, Joanne Daniel, Jay Kirkpatrick, Sharon Fuller, Edward Deichman, Kitty Lindquist, and by a number of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Dunmyre was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Harriet J. Dunmyre who passed away on January 11, 1991.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Friday, November 14, 2008 from 10 a.m. to noon

Services will be held at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc. on Friday, November 14, 2008 at noon with Reverend Dr. Alden Towberman of St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will follow in St. Peters Catholic Cemetery.

Norabel M. Cooper

December 25, 1919 - November 9, 2008

Norabel M. Cooper, age 88 of Butler, Pennsylvania, formerly of Randy Drive, Butler, died Sunday, November 9, 2008 at 6:50 a.m. in the Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born December 25, 1919 in Bessemer, Pennsylvania she was the daughter of the late George W. Shakely and the late A. Margarette Ort Shakely.

Mrs. Cooper was a member of Christ Outreach Church. She retired from the staff of the Butler County Planning Commission and had previously been employed at Castle Rubber Co., and the Hull Resurfacing Co. Mrs. Cooper was a substitute teacher of business at seven high schools in Butler County and had taught business subjects at Butler Business College and the Pennsylvania School of Business. She was a member of the Butler Chapter No 45 Order of Eastern Star, the White Shrine of Jerusalem, Oak Hills Garden Club, the Lions Club Auxiliary. Mrs. Cooper enjoyed singing in her church choir for over 60 years and had belonged to various choral groups and trios. She also enjoyed knitting.

Mrs. Cooper is survived by her daughter and husband, Cynthia D. and Robert Sybert of Owings, Maryland; two sons, Scott A. and his wife Mary Cooper of Butler, Steven Jon Cooper of Renfrew; two grandsons, Kevin Sybert, Skyler Cooper; one sister and her husband, E. Arlene and Herbert Johnson of Norton, Ohio; and by a number of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Cooper was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph M. Cooper whom she marriage on January 28, 1943, and who passed away on September 19, 1979, and also by one granddaughter and two brothers.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Tuesday, November 11, 2008 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc. on Wednesday, November 12, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Andrew Brewer of Christ Outreach Church officiating. Interment will follow in North Side Cemetery.

Jane K. Lorris

October 21, 1916 - November 8, 2008

Jane K. Lorris, age 92 formerly of Forest Heights Apartments, Butler, Pennsylvania, died Saturday, November 8, 2008 at 9:30 p.m. in the Sentinel Point Independent Living Facility, Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Born October 21, 1916 in Butler, Pennsylvania she was the daughter of the late Karl S. Kennedy and the late Frances B. McMurry Kennedy.

Mrs. Lorris was at one time a secretary at the Butler Veterans Hospital, but was a homemaker for most of her life. She was a member of St. Andrews United Presbyterian church. Mrs. Lorris was a member of the General Federation of Women's Clubs, the former Century Club, A.A.R.P. and Friends of the Library.

Mrs. Lorris is survived by her two daughters and their husbands, Mrs. Nancy Jane Lorris and Thomas Barson of East Lansing, Michigan, Mrs. Robert (Carole Susan) Raffetto of Barrington, Illinois; one son and his wife, Mark Steven and Ann Lorris of Byron Center, Michigan; three grandchildren, Elisabeth Daily, Samuel Corl IV, and Jennifer Lorris, four great-grandchildren, one sister, Ruth Hill of Butler, and by a number of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Lorris was preceded in death by her husband, Steven A. Lorris who passed away on June 19, 2001, and by two brothers, Robert Kennedy and Reverend Dr. Richard K. Kennedy.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Wednesday, November 12, 2008 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the St. Andrews United Presbyterian Church, 201 East Jefferson Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Thursday, November 13, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. with Reverend Merry H. Meloy of St. Andrews United Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery.
