Darrell A. Morrow

September 24, 1927 - March 20, 2009

Darrell Alfred Morrow, age 81, of Butler, Pennsylvania, died Friday, March 20, 2009 at 8:27 AM at his home.

Born September 24, 1927 in Concord Township, Pennsylvania he was the son of the late Herbert Matthew Morrow and the late Violet Lorraine Black Morrow.

Darrell was a supervisor of the Finishing Department at Castle Rubber Company in East Butler, Pennsylvania with whom he was employed for over twenty years. He was a member of The First English Lutheran Church in Butler, where he served on Church Council, sang in the choir, helped with many community outreach programs and enjoyed serving as an usher. Darrell was a gardener who enjoyed fishing and golfing. He was an avid sports fan of all the Pittsburgh teams. He especially enjoyed volunteering at The Muddy Creek Oil Field. He was known as a gentle, hard working man, a good friend and neighbor. His faith, family and friends were very important to him. He was loved by many and will be sadly missed.

Darrell is survived by his wife, Jean E. Mellott Morrow whom he marriage on June 7, 1952; two sons and their wives, Daniel G. and Sue (Mould) Morrow, Roger L and Karen (Vero) Morrow all of Butler; one daughter and her husband, Debra S. (Morrow) and Thomas L. Zarnick, Jr. of Cranberry Township; six grandchildren, Laurie (Morrow) and her husband John O'Rourke of Cranberry Township, David A. Morrow of Butler, Tommy Zarnick, III and Courtney Zarnick of Cranberry Township, Benjamin Morrow and Sara Morrow of Butler; two sisters, Donna Hutchison of Saxonburg, Rachel Linamen of Bruin; two brothers, Joseph Morrow of Chicora, Quay Morrow of Karns City; two sister-in-law, Joanne Morrow of Butler, Pat Morrow of Erie, and by several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Morrow was preceded in death by two brothers Robert H. Morrow and Richard L. Morrow and by his beloved grandson William "Wil" Matthew Morrow.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on (Monday 3/23) from 7 to 9 p.m. and (Tuesday 3/24) from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the First English Lutheran Church on (Wednesday 3/25) at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend James W. Dollhopf of First English Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will follow in North Side Cemetery.

Helen D. Giesler

June 15, 1914 - March 20, 2009

Helen D. Giesler, age 94 of Autumn Grove Care Center, Harrisville, Pennsylvania, formerly of West Brady Street died Friday, March 20, 2009 at 4:07 a.m. in the emergency room of the Grove City Medical Center.

Born June 15, 1914 in Jefferson Township, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Paul M. Walker and the late Mary Etta Dickson Walker.

Mrs. Giesler was a retired secretary for the Butler County Credit Union in Butler, Pennsylvania and Spreng Machine Company in Saxonburg, Pennsylvania. She was a former member of Community Alliance Church, and also attended Wayside Community Church in Grove City, Pennsylvania. She also enjoyed her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and also enjoyed listening to country music.

Mrs. Giesler is survived by two sons, William J. and his wife Marjorie Giesler, Jr. of Harrisville, Pennsylvania; Robert E. and his wife, Janice Giesler of Port St. Lucie, Florida; six grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren; one step daughter, Mrs. Ruby Ferrere of West Sunbury, Pennsylvania, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Giesler was preceded in death by her husband, William J. Giesler, who died on July 19, 1977 and also by one brother Paul Walker.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Sunday, March 22, 2009 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

Services will be held at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc. on Monday, March 23, 2009 at 11:30 a.m. with Minister of Visitation G. Kenton Shaw of Wayside Community Church of Grove City, Pennsylvania officiating. Interment will follow in Saxonburg Memorial Church Cemetery.

Paula R. Lutz

June 20, 1928 - March 18, 2009

Paula R. Lutz, age 80 of Oak Street, Butler, Pennsylvania, died Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at 1:16 p.m. in the Allegheny General Hospital surrounded by her loving family.

Born June 20, 1928 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania she was the daughter of the late Howard Greot, her late step-father, August Heist and the late Margaret Dwyer Greot Heist.

Mrs. Lutz was a secretary for the Butler County District Attorney during the 1940's, a real estate investor and the secretary/treasurer of MasterTech Alarm Company and the Gateway China Company. She was a member of St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church. Mrs. Lutz was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America and St. Peter's Women's Club. She enjoyed counted cross-stitching, crossword puzzles, reading mystery novels and especially her grandchildren.

Mrs. Lutz is survived by her husband of 61 years, Joseph A. Lutz, whom she marriage on June 19, 1947, by her son, John and his wife Jane McCandless Lutz of Butler, Pennsylvania; two daughters, Deborah and her husband Richard Waggoner of Westerville, Ohio and Susan Lutz Johnston of Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania; by six grandchildren, Erin (Waggoner) deLucia, Courtney Waggoner, Matthew Lutz, Sara Lutz, Michael Johnston and Gayle Johnston; two great-grandchildren, Sofia deLucia, Isaac Johnston; and by many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by a step sister-in-law, Arlene Heist of Canton, Ohio.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Saturday, March 21, 2009 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and also on Sunday, March 22, 2009 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at the St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church on Monday, March 23, 2009, at 10:00 a.m. with Father Jack Nanz of the Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh officiating. Interment will follow in St. Peters Catholic Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Little Sisters of the Poor, 1028 Benton Avenue, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania 15212.

Ruth L. Hartzell-Hill-Moniot

May 7, 1914- March 12, 2009

Ruth L. Hartzell-Hill-Moniot, age 94 of Ramsey Road, Ashville, New York, died Thursday, March 12, 2009 at 10:10 p.m. in the WCA Hospital in Jamestown, New York.

Born May 7, 1914 in Butler, Pennsylvania she was the daughter of the late David L. Hartzell and the late Carrie Maharg Hartzell.

Mrs. Hartzell-Hill-Moniot was a homemaker and formerly worked at Keystone Pipe and Supply Company in Butler and Colonial Gardens Guest House in Penn Township. She was a member of Panama Baptist Church in Panama, New York. Mrs. Hartzell-Hill-Moniot was a member of AARP; she entertained at senior care centers as a member of the group "The Keynotes" reading poetry. She loved tending her large flower garden, canning, and sharing God's word. In her younger years, she played the piano.

Mrs. Hartzell-Hill-Moniot is survived by one son, Rodger and wife Laurie Hill of Larkspur, Colorado; one brother, Dale Hartzell of Butler, Pennsylvania; one sister, Esther Hixon of Renfrew, Pennsylvania; five grandsons, three great- grandsons. A large stepfamily, three daughters, four sons, ten grandchildren, seven great grandchildren.

Mrs. Hartzell-Hill-Moniot was preceded in death by her husbands, Joseph A. Moniot who passed away on December 12, 2007 and Dean E. Hill who passed away on October 14. 1985, one son Kenneth D. Hill of Pleasanton, California who passed away in June 2007.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Sunday March 15, 2002 From 2 -5:30 P.M.

Services will be held at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc. on Sunday March 15, 2009 at 5:30 P.M. with Reverend Dennis L. Krajacic of Community Alliance Church officiating. Interment will be on Monday March 16, 2009 in North Union Cemetery.

Gertrude E. Stanley

February 2, 1913 - March 12, 2009

Gertrude E. Stanley, age 96 of Sunnyview Home, Butler, Pennsylvania, formerly of Chicora Road, Butler, Pennsylvania died Thursday, March 12, 2009 at 10:28 p.m at Sunnyview Home.

Born, February 2, 1913 in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania she was the daughter of the late Thomas E. Brophy and the late Daisy Stoner Brophy.

Mrs. Stanley was a homemaker. She was Catholic by faith.

Mrs. Stanley is survived by two daughters, Betty and her husband Thomas Pizor of Butler, Pennsylvania and Shirlee and her husband Kenneth Frenchak of Butler, Pennsylvania; one son, Robert E. and his wife Dorothy Stanley of Butler, Pennsylvania; seven grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, two great great granddaughters, and by a number of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Stanley was preceded in death by her husband, Chester C. Stanely who passed away on August 25, 1981 and also by one grandson, three sisters, and four brothers.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Sunday, March 15, 2009 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

A blessing service will be held at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc. on Monday, March 16, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Butler County Memorial Park.

David L. Elliott

April 4, 1955 - March 10, 2009

David L. Elliott, age 53 of Flinton, Pennsylvania formerly of Renfrew, Pennsylvania died Tuesday, March 10, 2009 at 9:50 p.m. in the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Born, April 4, 1955 in Natrona Heights he was the son of James O. Elliott, Jr. and Jean Pennington Elliott.

Mr. Elliott was protestant by faith. He was a truck driver for Entersprise Transportation Company in Parker, Pennsylvania. Mr. Elliott was an avid train collector, a member of SAWS, and a member of the Moose Lodge in Coalport, Pennsylvania.

Mr. Elliott is survived by his wife Theresa M. Elliott whom he marriage on June 10, 1995; one daughter, Robbie and her husband Brent Nobel of Rockford, Illinois; one son, David Elliott at home; one grandson, Lincoln Edward Noble; parents, Mr. and Mrs. James (Jean) Elliott, Jr. of Cabot, Pennsylvania; one sister, Jacquelynn and her husband Paul Vidmar of Butler, Pennsylvania.

Mr. Elliott was preceded in death by one brother James D. Elliott who died May 25, 2008..

There will be no public visitation.

Memorial services will be held at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc. on Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Ray Lesseski of Bethel Bible Baptist Church in Worthington officiating. .

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to David J. Elliott, P.O. Box 235, Flinton, Pennsylvania 16640.

Donald Lee Shoup

July 27, 1931 - March 9, 2009

Donald Lee Shoup, age 77 of Butler, Pennsylvania, died peacefully Monday, March 9, 2009 at 8:29 a.m. at his residence.

Born July 27, 1931 in Butler, Pennsylvania he was the son of the late John W. Shoup and the late Ann (Hosack) Shoup.

Donald was a rigger for Armco for 42 years, retiring in May of 1992. He was a member of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church. Donald was a graduate of Butler High School and completed his apprenticeship at Armco. He enjoyed all sports and was an avid Steeler and NASCAR fan. He enjoyed crossword puzzles; logic puzzles and was a trivia enthusiast. Donald also enjoyed gambling trips to Atlantic City and West Virginia.

Mr. Shoup is survived by his wife of 58 years, Margaret "Peggy" Look Shoup, whom he marriage on September 9, 1950, by two sons, David Lee Shoup of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, John Edward Shoup and his wife Debbie of Tyler, Texas; two daughters, Mrs. Randall (Sally) Brown of Butler, Pennsylvania, Mrs. Bryan (Donalee) Thomas of Butler, Pennsylvania; seven grandchildren, Dawn Marie Shoup, Randall K. Brown, Jr., Betsy Brown, Corey Shoup, Davey Shoup, Julianne Thomas, Benjamin Thomas; six great-grandchildren, one sister, Gretchen Ehlman of Butler, Pennsylvania; his little Daschund, "Maggie" and by numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Shoup was preceded in death by one daughter.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Wednesday, March 11, 2009 from 6 to 9 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church on Thursday, March 12, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. with Father Harry R. Bielewicz of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church officiating. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice Program of the Visiting Nurses Association, 154 Hindman Road, Butler, Pennsylvania 16001.
