Mike "Spider" Franko, age 92 of Saxony Health Center, Saxonburg, Pennsylvania, formerly of Mercer Street, Butler, Pennsylvania died June 29, 2009 8:30 A.M. at Saxony Health Center

Born May 18, 1917 in Lyndora, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Harry Franko and the late Julia (Druga) Franko.

Mr. Franko was a heavy equipment operator for Armco, retiring in 1979. He was a lifetime member of St. John's Byzantine Catholic Church in Lyndora. Mr. Franko was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Pacific Theater during WW II. He was a member of the American Legion Post #778, Lyndora and the VFW Post #249. Mr. Franko was a former member of the Moose Lodge #64 of Butler, the Butler Elks Lodge #170, and the Slovak Circle Society Club. He was active in a variety of sports and played with many local sports teams for most of his life. He especially enjoyed golf. He was a member of the Century Club of Tanglewood and an alumni of the Butler High School class of 1937.

Mr. Franko is survived by one son, Michael A. Franko and his wife Kathleen of Butler, Pennsylvania one daughter Marilyn Graham and her husband, Terry of Butler, Pennsylvania; one granddaughter Teresa (Graham) Shannon and her husband Erik; one grandson David Graham; two step-grandsons, Brandon and his wife Naoko Downing, Joshua and his wife Stacy Downing; three step-great-grandchildren, Kaylee, Charlie, and Ryuta Downing, two brothers, Harry Franko and his wife Virginia and Frank Franko and his wife, Glenna, both of Butler, his special friend Mary Ellen Yon of Butler, Pennsylvania and by a number of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Franko was preceded in death by his wife, Mary E. (Severino) Franko who passed away of June 3, 1989 and also by three brothers, John Franko, Steven Franko, and Andrew Franko, and by one sister, Mary (Franko) Anderson.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania Wednesday July 1, 2009 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

A private funeral liturgy, in his memory, will be held at a later date. Private interment will be at Greenlawn Burial Estates

Officers and members of the American Legion Post #778 Lyndora and the VFW Post #249 will conduct memorial services at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc.Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Butler County Unit, Post Office Box 3014, Butler, Pennsylvania 16003, Hospice Program of Visiting Nurses, 154 Hindman Road, Butler, Pennsylvania 16001 or to the donor's choice.

Charles A Maxwell

October 27, 1944 ~ June 26, 2009

Charles A Maxwell, age 64 of Main Street, Lyndora, Pennsylvania, was called to glory on Friday, June 26, 2009 in Mercy Hospital, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Born Monday, October 27, 1944 he was the son of the late Wilfred A Maxwell and the late Selma Berg Maxwell.

Mr. Maxwell was a Diesel Mechanic for Keystone Detroit & Penn Detroit and retired May 9, 2003. He was a member of VFW Post 249 and a former member of Lyndora Fire Department and Slovak Club. Mr. Maxwell was a graduate of Mars Area High School and of Williamsport College . He was a veteran of the United States Navy serving two tours of duty in Vietnam during the Vietnam War.

Mr. Maxwell is survived by his wife and children, Diana L. Barnhart Maxwell, whom he marriage on December 30, 1978, by his mother, Lois Maxwell of Valencia, Pennsylvania; one son, Alexander Maxwell of Lyndora, Pennsylvania; two daughters, Alicia and Michael Fox of Portersville, Pennsylvania, April Maxwell of Baltimore, Maryland; two grandchildren, Lila and Levi Fox of Portersville, Pennsylvania; three brothers, Frank and Amy Maxwell of Butler, Pennsylvania, George and Elaine Shaffer Tarentum, Randy and Sue Shaffer of Valencia, Pennsylvania; two sisters, Kathryn Catalano of Butler, Pennsylvania, Lois and Keith Petrosky of Vineland, New Jersey, nine nieces and nine nephews.

Mr. Maxwell was preceded in death by two brothers; William Shaffer and Robert Shaffer.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Tuesday June 30, 2009 at 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 200 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania 16001 on Wednesday July 1, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Dr. J. David Panther of First United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Deer Creek United Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

Joel Frederick Martin

May 3, 1935 ~ June 22, 2009

Joel Frederick Martin, age 74 of Scottdale, Pennsylvania, was called home to the Lord on Monday, June 22, 2009 at 3:11 p.m. at his residence.

Born May 3, 1935 in Ellwood City he was the son of the late Benjamin Martin and the late Bertha Wardman Martin.

Mr. Martin was a truck driver by trade. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church of Scottdale, Pennsylvania. He was a member American Legion of Scottdale, Scottdale Elks #777, Scottdale Fireman's Club, Bullskin Senior Citizens and Everson Senior Citizens. Mr. Martin enjoyed country music and going to Nashville. He was a charter member of P.C.M.A Pennsylvania Country Music Association

Mr. Martin is survived by his wife Margery Thompson Martin whom he marriage on June 9, 2005; two sons, Martin J. Martin; Benjamin C and wife Mary Martin; seven daughters Tanya and husband Ralph Card of Butler, Pennsylvania, Jackie Keefer and companion Tom McCommon of Butler, Pennsylvania; Donna Martin of Butler, Rita and husband Tom Huff of Chicora, Pennsylvania Jayne Martin and companion Pete Mullen of Butler, Pennsylvania; Margie and husband Richard Wood of Washington, Pennsylvania, Linda and husband Mark Faupel of Alpharetta, Georgia, twenty-one grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren, two brothers, Glenn and wife Alice Martin, Ronald and wife Jean Martin both of California, two sisters Vivian Wilcho, Linda and husband Dave Belsito, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Thursday, June 25, 2009, 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.

Services will be held at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home on Thursday at 8:00 pm. with Pastor Dennis Henley of Christ United Methodist Church officiating. Military Honors will be provided by American Legion Post #778 and VFW post #249.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Butler County Unit, Post Office Box 3014, Butler, Pennsylvania 16003, or to the donors favorite charity.

Erma Irene Robinson

July 1, 1941 ~ June 18, 2009

Erma Irene Robinson, age 67 of September Drive, Butler, Pennsylvania, died Thursday, June 18, 2009 at 7:07 p.m. in the Good Samaritan Hospice.

Born July 1, 1941 in Chicora, Pennsylvania she was the daughter of the late Ralph Byers and the late Freda Goldinger.

Mrs. Robinson was a member of the First United Methodist Church, which she joined in 1962, and served on committees and boards and volunteered weekly in the office. She retired in 1999 from Butler County Community College as the secretary to the Dean of Students. She has served as secretary to the Dean of Men at Slippery Rock University, secretary for American Hardware, Secretary at Butler Savings and Trust, a substitute secretary for Butler School District, and was also a secretary at the employment office of Butler County. She was a member of Juniors Women's Club, served on the boards of the Salvation Army, YWCA, Junior Miss, and multiple Reunion Committees. Mrs. Robinson enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and was an avid follower of Butler and Karns City basketball. She enjoyed bus trips with family and friends as well as visiting casinos throughout the United States.

Mrs. Robinson is survived by her husband, Lyle Robinson whom she marriage on July 1, 1961, by one daughter, Christie Galcik and her husband Larry of Prospect, Pennsylvania; one son, Corey Robinson and his wife Jennifer of Butler, Pennsylvania; five grandchildren, Zachary-13, Garrett-6 Brody-4, Brett-4 and Tyler-5; brother, Dean Byers and his wife the late Jeanne of Chicora; sister-in-law, Myrna and her late husband Joseph Burkhard of Petrolia, Pennsylvania; brother-in-law, Gerald Robinson and his wife Dixie of Butler, Pennsylvania; brother-in-law James Robinson and his wife Brenda of Erie, Pennsylvania, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Saturday, June 20, 2009 from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday June 21, 2009 from noon to 3 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.

Services will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 200 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Monday, June 22, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Dr. J. David Panther of First United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Butler County Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the First United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 200 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania 16001.

Marie E. Smith

July 7, 1921 ~ June 17,, 2009

Marie E. Smith, age 87 of Butler, Pennsylvania, died Wednesday, June 17, 2009 at her home.

Born Thursday, July 7, 1921 in Butler, Pennsylvania she was the daughter of the late Albert Frederick and the late Elsie Fisher Frederick.

Mrs. Smith was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening, cooking, watching the Pirates and the Steelers and also being with her family.

Mrs. Smith is survived by one daughter, Patricia (Patty) Smith of Butler, Pennsylvania; one sister, Mrs. George (Mildred "Millie") Blatt of Chicora, Pennsylvania; one brother-in-law; Hayden Robertson, Medford, Oregon.

Also by a number of nieces and nephews, a number of great nieces and nephews, and a number of great great nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, Francis (Frank) Smith on September 26, 1968 and also by one brother; Richard "Dick" Frederick and four sisters; Mrs. Andrew (Anna) Geibel, Mrs. Thomas (Hazel) Scott, Mrs. Glenn (Ethel Mae "Effie") Moser, Mrs. Alberta (Birdie) Robertson.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Friday June 19, 2009, 6p.m. to 8 p.m. Services will follow at 8 p.m. with Reverend Dr. Alden Towberman of St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will follow in Gruenwald Cemetery.

Contributions may be made to Donor's favorite charity.

Judith Ann "Judy" Tyson

October 4, 1945 ~ June 16, 2009

Judith Ann "Judy" Tyson, age 63 of Peach Street, Butler, Pennsylvania, died Tuesday, June 16, 2009 at her home.

Born October 4, 1945 in Butler, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late James W. Keasey and the late Kathryn Pierce Keasey.

Mrs. Tyson was a secretary for Nicro Marine in Oakland, California. She was a volunteer with the Butler Farm Show. Mrs. Tyson enjoyed knitting, Pitt Basketball and crafting. She was a doglover and an avid reader.

Mrs.Tyson is survived by her husband, William Stephen Tyson whom she marriage on October 12, 1996, also by one daughter, Rachel E. Green of Butler, Pennsylvania; one brother, James P Keasey of Zelienople, Pennsylvania; three sisters, Carol J. Eichenlaub of Cabot, Sarah J. Weir of Canfield, Ohio, Janice E. Metkin, Idaho; six nieces, one nephew. She is also survived by her Cairn Terrior "Jack".

Duane "Rege" Klugh

November 8, 1927 ~ June 16, 2009

Duane "Rege" Klugh 81, of Butler passed away Tuesday, June 16th, at his home with his loving family by his side following a short illness. He was born in Butler, November 8, 1927, the son of the late Mary Bernice Nolan Klugh and Herman Levier Klugh. He graduated from Butler High School in June 1945. Mr. Klugh was a Veteran of World War II serving with the Seabees stationed in Japan.

He worked at ARMCO Steel for 42 years retiring as Turn Foreman from the hotmill in 1985. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and Lifetime Member of VFW Post 249. He enjoyed roller skating in his younger days, reading his Bible, following world current events, traveling and spending time with his family.

Mr. Klugh is survived by his wife of 60 years, Twila Maxine "Dede" Gold Klugh whom he marriage March 19, 1949. Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Cindy Elliott and her husband Bill of Butler, three sons and their wives, Chuck and Connie Klugh of Butler, Todd and Apryl Klugh of Pleasant Gap, Ben and Loretta Klugh of Butler, nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Also by a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Carl and Gene Klugh.

Private services and entombment were held in Chapel of All Faith Mausoleum at Greenlawn Burial Estates.

Donations can be made in his name to the First United Methodist Church of Butler, 200 East North Street, Butler, PA 16001.

Paula Kay Carben

October 17, 1970 ~ June 15, 2009

Paula Kay Carben, age 38 of Butler, Pennsylvania, went home to be with her Lord on Monday, June 15, 2009 at 9:30 a.m. at her residence.

Born October 17, 1970 in Butler, Pennsylvania she is the daughter of Robin Michelle Cumberland and Ronald E. Carben.

She attended the Hannahstown Road Baptist Church in Cabot, Pennsylvania. Paula worked for Traco Windows in Cranberry Township, and also at the Burger Hut in Butler.

Paula is survived by one daughter, Danielle Carben of Butler, Pennsylvania; her mother, Robin Michelle Cumberland of Butler, Pennsylvania; her father, Ronald E. Carben of Butler, Pennsylvania; one brother, Ronald A. Carben of Butler, Pennsylvania; two sisters, Dawn M. Carben of Butler, Pennsylvania, Sandra L. Carben of Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania; and by one niece, Asia Dawn Carben of Butler, Pennsylvania.

Friends will be received at the Hannahstown Road Baptist Church, 250 Hannahstown Road, Cabot, Pennsylvania 16023 on Thursday, June 18, 2009 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Services will be held at the Hannahstown Road Baptist Church on Thursday, June 18, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Mark A Wagner of Hannahstown Road Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Butler County Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers contributions to help defray funeral cost may be made to Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania 16001.
