Patricia A. Thompson

October 19, 1953 ~ June 29, 2010

Patricia A. Thompson, age 56 of Whitestown Village, Butler, Pennsylvania, died Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at 3:20 a.m. at her residence.

Born October 19, 1953 in Natrona Heights she was the daughter of Shields Macurdy and the late Dorritt Steele Macurdy.

Mrs. Thompson was a Lutheran by Faith. She worked as a painter for Pullman Standard until the plant closed in 1982. Mrs. Thompson worked at Kings Restaurant, Old Country Buffet and several other area restaurants. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She graduated from Knoch High School in 1971.

Mrs. Thompson is survived by her husband, Don Thompson, whom she marriage on February 1, 1980. She is also survived by one son, Brad E. Wilbert and his wife Chasity of Butler, Pennsylvania, three daughters, Heather Shanor and her husband, Adam of Butler, Pennsylvania, Holly Thompson and Crystal Thompson both of Butler, Pennsylvania, four grandchildren, Taylor, Maggie, Daelynn and Mason, two sisters, Barbara Douglas of Virginia, and Jean Renshaw and her husband Larry of Florida, her father, Shields Macurdy and by numerous nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Thompson was preceded in death by her mother, Dorritt Steele Macurdy, and one son, Donald Kenneth Thompson.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Thursday, July 1, 2010 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc. on Friday, July 2, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. with Chaplin Lance Gilbert of Vitas Hospice Service officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Chestnut Cemetery

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations can be made to Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc. to help defray expenses.

Alma L. Anderson

January 13, 1917 ~ June 29, 2010

Alma L. Anderson, 93, of Butler died at Butler Memorial Hospital on Tuesday, June 29, 2010.

Born in Emlenton, Pennsylvania January. 13, 1917, she was the daughter of Clark E. and Mary Webster Karnes.

She was the youngest of four children and was preceded in death by brothers Arnold, Wayne and Jerry.

Alma worked as a waitress at King's Restaurant and Frew's Restaurant in Butler for a short time and then at Shop N Save at the North Main St. Extension for several years. She also had a ceramic shop in Lyndora where she sold ceramics and taught classes.

She is survived by a son, Grahel Gannon and his wife, Linda and a daughter, Judy Scott Rhodaberger and her husband, Kenneth. Grandchildren are Shanda Renick, Quentin Scott, and Kristopher Rhodaberger, Laurel Mitchell and Rachel Singer. Great grandchildren are Zacharri Renick, Sara Archer and Alexis Hufelton and a great, great grandson Skylar Renick.

She is also survived by a stepbrother, Burdette Karnes and his wife Maryanne and two stepsisters, Dolores Rice and Maxine Wray.

Also surviving is a niece, Joyce Chambers of Maryland, whom she was quite close to and other nieces and nephews.

Her first husband, Grahel Gannon Sr. died in 1979 and her second husband, Owen Anderson died in 2003.

Friends will be received at The Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania 16001 on Friday July 2, 2010 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Funeral services will follow at 8:00 P.M. with the Rev. Dr. Alden Towberman of St. Marks Evangelical Lutheran Church officiating.

Entombment will take place in the Chapel of All Faiths Mausoleum in Greenlawn Burial Estates, Mt. Chestnut.

Wilbur Glenn Dumbaugh

April 6, 1927 ~ July 22, 2010

Wilbur Glenn Dumbaugh, 83, died July 22 in the hospice unit at Veteran's Medical Center in Butler following a lengthy battle against cancer. Born in Butler on April 6, 1927, he was a 1945 graduate of Butler High School and a 1950 graduate of Westminster College, where he majored in voice and earned a Bachelor's degree in music education.

Interrupting his college education to join the Army Air Force, he served for one year in the army of occupation in Japan and earned the rank of staff sergeant.

Dumbaugh decided against becoming a music teacher and chose to enter the family business, Dumbaugh Electric Inc. Music became his avocation. Blessed with a rich baritone voice, he was soon in demand as a soloist.

He appeared with the Butler County, McKeesport, Johnstown, Pittsburgh Youth, and Kingsport, TN, symphony orchestras. He was guest soloist with the Clarion State College Symphony and choir, the Bach Choir of Pittsburgh, and at the Chautauqua Institution Amphitheater, NY. A former member of the Mendelssohn Choir, he also performed with the Chatham College Opera Workshop.

At various times he held the position of baritone soloist with the Third Presbyterian, East Liberty, Shadyside, and Mt. Lebanon Presbyterian churches. He was equally at home on the concert and musical theater stages.

Locally, he first appeared with the former Catholic Theater Guild as Edvard Grieg in Song of Norway. He was the first president of the Musical Theatre Guild of Butler and played the lead in the Pajama Game, Carousel, Fiddler on the Roof, Man of La Mancha, Music Man, 1776, and South Pacific.

In addition to his busy music schedule, he ran the family business and served a year as president of the Butler Area Chamber of Commerce. As retirement neared he explored the idea of doing commercials and appeared in several print and TV commercials before being diagnosed with cancer. He decided to pursue a lifelong dream and audition for the Civic Light Opera. In two seasons he appeared in Fiorello, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, and Mame. He was in the CLO cast that also presented Mame for a week in Atlanta, GA.

Dumbaugh was an elder in the Presbyterian church and a member of Hill United Presbyterian Church in Butler.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret "Peg" Dumbaugh, whom he marriage June 24, 1950; a daughter, Kerry Dumbaugh, of Springfield, VA; a sister, Hazel Mitchell, of Flagstaff, AZ; two granddaughters, Audrey Jo Schlicht of Monroeville, and Kerry Beth Schlicht of Eugene, OR; a son-in-law, C. Andrew "Andy" Schlicht of Butler, and a brother-in-law, John Black of Indiana, PA; and five nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Tracey Jo Schlicht; a sister, Erla Mae Black; and his parents, Florence and Earl Dumbaugh.

Visitation will be on Saturday, July 24, from 7-9 p.m. and on Sunday, July 25, from 2-4 p.m. and from 7-9 p.m. at Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St. Services will be at Hill United Presbyterian Church at 501 Second St, Butler, on Monday, July 26 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Clark Sawyer officiating. Burial will be at Butler County Memorial Park.

Memorial donations may be made to the Musical Theater Guild of Butler, PO Box 2001, Butler, PA 16001; or to Hill United Presbyterian Church.

James G. Stokes

March 9, 1919 ~ July 31, 2010

James G. Stokes, age 91, formerly of Clinton and Pleasantview Avenues, Stone Ridge Blvd and Newhaven Court, passed away Saturday, July 31, 2010 at the Sunnyview Home and Rehabilitation Center .

Born March 9, 1919 in Butler, Pennsylvania he was the son of the late Jacob and Mary Loretta (Convery) Stokes.

Jim was a 1935 graduate of Butler High School and retired from the Silicon Maintenance Department of Butler Armco (now AK Steel) in 1977 after 40 years of service. He served in the Navy during World War II in Borneo and the South Seas. Jim had a generous spirit and a heart for gratitude. He enjoyed reading, traveling, fishing, and the company of family and friends. He was always a loyal Butler native and devoted member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, Southside, Butler.

James marriage Helen Davis Stokes on September 2, 1937. He lost her in passing July 16, 1978. James marriage Lois Teets Wogan on June 26, 1982.

Surviving Jim are his wife, Lois; two sons, James E. (Louise) Stokes of Hobe Sound, FL, and Bruce (Clydene) Stokes of New Wilmington; 2 daughters, Betty Mansfield of Wimberley, TX and Ginger (Philip) Angus of Carnegie; 6 grandchildren, Steven Stokes, Maria Pollock, Joseph, Patrick and Brian Mansfield and Sheldon Stokes; 3 great grandsons, Jameson and Jacob Pollock, and Carter Mansfield; numerous nieces and nephews.

Also survived are 3 step sons, David (Darlene) Wogan, Donald (Pennie) Wogan, and John (Elaine) Wogan; 2 step daughters, Evelyn (Donald) Kennedy and Janet (John) Federkeil; 12 step grandchildren and 23 step great grandchildren.

Jim was preceded in death by sisters, Mary (Mrs. Albert) Zanella, Agnes (Mrs.Merle) Rettig, Helen (Mrs. Nick) Thomas, and Blanche (Mrs.Bill) Sinkavich; brother Elmer Stokes; son-in-law, Joseph Mansfield Jr., and many dear friends.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Wednesday, August 4, 2010 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Michael The Archangel Roman Catholic Church on Thursday, August 5, 2010 at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow in Lower Zion Baptist Church Cemetery.

Betty May Stahlman

December 23, 1923 ~ July 20, 2010

Betty May Stahlman age 86 of Hoch Road Butler, Pennsylvania died, July 20, 2010 at 11:30 p.m. in the VNA Hospice in Butler, Pennsylvania.

Born December 23, 1923 in Perry Township, Jefferson County. She was the daughter of the late Paul H. Stahlman and M. Marie Slawson.

Betty was employed as a clerk at the A&P markets grocery store. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church In America.

She is survived by five brothers: Lee C. Stahlman and his wife, Arlie, William L. Stahlman and his wife Mary Ellen, Terry P. Stahlman, Darl M.Stahlman and his wife, Judy all of Punnxatawney, Pennsylvania and Jerry T. Stahlman and his wife, Nancy of Lewisberry, Pennsylvania; three sisters: Oma Joy Dunmire and her husband, Arnold of Punxatawney, Pennsylvania, Mary Ann Holt of Parker, Colorado, and Nada Marie Smith of Fort Washington, Maryland, one sister-in-law, Sharan Stahlman; her good friend, Shirley Shuber many nieces, nephews and grandnieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three brothers: John S., James H. and Thomas D. Stahlman, two sisters-in-law, Margaret Stahlman and Evelyn Stahlman and one brother-in-law, Ronald J. Smith.

Private graveside services will be held.

Bernetta M. "Netta" Oesterling

September 9, 1917 ~ July 15, 2010

Bernetta M. "Netta" Oesterling, age 92 of Cabot, Pennsylvania died Thursday, July 15, 2010 at 3:55 p.m . in the Good Samaritan Hospice at Concordia Lutheran Ministries .

Born September 9, 1917 in Herman, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Eugene N. Geibel and Annie Reott.

Mrs. Oesterling was a member of St. Marks Lutheran Church where she was a member of the "Home Builders" Sunday School Class. She loved taking care of her home, beautifying it inside and out. Mrs. Oesterling loved her flowers, watching the birds, putting jig-saw puzzles together, reading, and listening to Al Jolson sing. She worked at the Spade Shirt Company before she was marriage. Mrs. Oesterling was a devoted wife and mother and took pride in her family. She was the faithful house keeper for the Elmer C. Bennitt Family where she retired after working there for many years.

Mrs. Oesterling is survived by one son, Clifford Oesterling Jr. and his wife, Shirley; three daughters, Sara Cain Stirling of Butler, Pennsylvania, Eleanor J. Rodgers of Fenelton, Pennsylvania, Jeanne and her husband, Dale Thorington, Missouri; twelve grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren ; three sisters, Luella Armahizer of Butler, Pennsylvania, Lucille and her husband Donald Riebold, California, Arlene Cubbage of Butler, Pennsylvania and many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Oesterling was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford E. Oesterling Sr. whom she marriage April 10, 1937 and passed away September 23, 1972, one grandchild, two brothers, Alfred H. Geibel and Morgan Geibel and three sisters, Anna May Liebler, Rita Osche, and Rose Mary Smith.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Sunday, July 18, 2010 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc. on Monday, July 19, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. with Reverend Dr. Alden Towberman of St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will follow in Gruenwald Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Concordia Lutheran Ministries, 134 Marwood Road, Cabot, Pennsylvania 16023.
