John Martin Wilson

John Martin Wilson, 88, of Akron, Ohio, formerly of Ford City and Butler, died Friday at his home.

Born June 25, 1913, in Butler, he was the son of John Martin and Laura Hunter Wilson.

He had worked as a cost accountant for Eljer Plumbingware, retiring in 1978.

Mr. Wilson was a member of St. Andrew’s United Presbyterian Church, where he served on the deacons’ board and as elder emeritus.

He was a past president of the Kiwanis Club of Ford City, past treasurer of the Butler Men of Retired Age Club and a member of the AARP.

He was a 1931 graduate of Butler High School and a 1933 graduate of the Butler Business College.

He is survived by a son, John Martin Wilson III, of Akron; two brothers, Paul H. Wilson, of Northville, N.Y., and Donald M. Wilson of Butler; a sister, Mrs. Margaret Rhoades of Grove City; two grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his wife, Allene Wible Wilson, who died Jan. 11, 1999; and a brother, William L. Wilson.

WILSON - Friends of John Martin Wilson, who died Feb. 1, 2002, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at THOMPSON-MILLER FUNERAL HOME, 124 E. North St. Service time is incomplete. Entombment will follow in the Chapel of Devotion Mausoleum in Butler County Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Andrew’s United Presbyterian Church, 201 E. Jefferson St., Butler, PA, 16001.

Clarence Earl Wiard

Clarence Earl Wiard, 91, of Waverly, Ohio, formerly of 123 Cupps Road, Renfrew, died Jan. 23 at Pike Community Hospital in Waverly.

He was a purchasing agent for Lectromelt Corp. in Pittsburgh, retiring in 1971 after 38 years.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Waverly and a former member of the Meridian United Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Wiard is survived by a daughter, Joan Taylor of Renfrew; a son, Donald Wiard of Edmond, Okla.; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Schuck Wilson; and a great-grandson.

WIARD - A memorial service for Clarence Earl Wiard, who died Wednesday Jan. 23, 2002, was held Jan. 26 at Bristol Village in Waverly. Interment was at Jefferson Memorial Park, Pittsburgh, Jan. 28.

Gertrude M. McCall

Gertrude M. McCall, 91, of Sarver, formerly of Saxonburg, died Friday at Fair Winds Manor in Sarver.

Born in Culmerville on March 22, 1910, she was the daughter of Samuel and Louise Rennick Campbell.

She was a retired registered nurse and had worked at Allegheny Valley Hospital and Saxony Health Center.

Mrs. McCall enjoyed gardening, reading and sewing.

She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Glenn (Judy) Bowser, of Sarver.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert N. “Bus” McCall, who died Sept. 3, 1989; two brothers; and a sister.

MCCALL - Friends of Gertrude M. McCall, who died Friday, Feb. 1, 2002, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at FOX FUNERAL HOME, Saxonburg. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Matthew Fry, pastor of United Presbyterian Church of Freeport, officiating. Burial will be at Saxonburg Memorial Church Cemetery .

Angeline E. Madison

Angeline E. Madison, 83, formerly of Zeigler Avenue, died Wednesday at the Evergreen Nursing Center in Harmony.

Born May 25, 1918, in Butler Township, she was the daughter of Thomas and Catherine Matuke.

She was a homemaker and a volunteer at the Tanglewood Senior Center, Butler. She enjoyed playing bingo.

She is survived by a son, Howard G. Madison of Butler; a daughter, Paula Catherine Madison of Butler; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Graham Robert Madison, who died July 30, 1969. Also preceding her in death were a sister and five brothers.

MADISON – Friends of Angeline E. Madison, who died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at GEIBEL FUNERAL HOME, 201 E. Cunningham St. Service arrangements are incomplete.

Phillip J. Kuciak Sr.

Phillip J. Kuciak Sr., 91, of Butler died Friday evening at Sunnyview Home in Butler.

Born Aug. 26, 1910, in Butler, he was the son of Joseph and Mary Chuba Kuciak.

He had been a glass worker for Franklin Glass for 47 years.

Mr. Kuciak was a member of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church of Butler, the French and Belgium Club and a former member of the Eagles Lodge of Butler.

He is survived by a son, Philip (Coke) Kuciak Jr. of Butler; two daughters, Mrs. Rose Hay of Butler and Mrs. Willis (Katheryn) Schnur of Herman; a sister, Mrs. Jack (Stella) Warren of Butler; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Rose M. Wetick Kuciak, who died Nov. 1, 1987; a son; five brothers, and two sisters.

KUCIAK - Friends of Phillip J. Kuciak Sr., who died Friday, Feb. 1, 2002, will be received from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Monday at MARTIN FUNERAL HOME, 429 Center Ave. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Peter Roman Catholic Church of Butler with the Rev. Jack Nanz, church pastor, officiating. Burial will be at St. Peter’s Cemetery .

Members of the Women’s Council of St. Peter will meet at 9:40 a.m. Monday at the church to recite the rosary.

Memorial donations may be made to the Hospice Program of the Visiting Nurses Association.

Gloria J. Haller

Gloria J. Haller, 75, of Butler died at 4 a.m. Saturday at her home.

Born Sept. 24, 1926, in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of Harry Warren and Sara Helen Burnett Findley.

She was a member of St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, a past president of the Penn Township Women’s Club and an active member of the Butler Little Theater and Musical Theater Guild.

Mrs. Haller is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Martin F. (Linda) Hemmes of Oil City, Mrs. Richard (Janet) McKain, with whom she made her home, and Lori J. Haller of North Washington; and a son, J. Christian Haller of San Diego. Calif. Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Andrew (Patricia) Patterson of Pittsburgh, and Mrs. Mary Lou Bernette Dennis of Port Washington, N.Y.; and nine grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell W. Haller, whom she married Sept. 9, 1947, and who died Dec. 9, 1990, and a sister.

HALLER - Friends of Gloria J. Haller, who died Saturday Feb. 2, 2002, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at YOUNG FUNERAL HOME, 127 W. Jefferson St., Butler. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church with the Rev. Richard Leseganich, church pastor, and the Rev. James Dollhopf, pastor of First English Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial will be at Northside Cemetery , Butler.

Edith Earcy Campbell

Edith Earcy Campbell, 94, of Harrisville died at 3:45 p.m. Friday at Trinity Living Center, Grove City.

Born in Springfield Township, Mercer, County, on Jan. 27, 1908, she was the daughter of Daniel W. and Vida Earcy McMurdy Ritenour.

A retired housekeeper, she had worked for Grove City College.

Mrs. Campbell was a Protestant and was a member of the Ladies of the Moose L.O.O.M. of Mercer.

She is survived by a daughter, Kathryn Campbell of Grove City; two sons, Kenneth Leroy Campbell of Boyers, and Clarence A. Campbell of Sandy Lake; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Charles Campbell, whom she married Nov. 30, 1927, and who died Oct. 2, 1971; a daughter; a son; three brothers, and two great-granddaughters.

CAMPBELL - Friends of Edith Earcy Campbell, who died Feb. 1, 2002, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at CUNNINGHAM FUNERAL HOME, 306 Bessemer Ave., Grove City. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Jack Patterson officiating. Interment will be Crestview Memorial Park in Grove City.

Thomas W. Tainton Sr.

Thomas W. Tainton Sr., 91, died of an unexpected illness at 10:50 a.m. Saturday at his home in St. Petersburg, Fla. where he lived since 1972. He formerly lived in Nectarine, Venango County.

Born in Arona, Westmoreland County, Jan. 11, 1911, he was the son of Richard W. Sr. and Lucy J. Rhodes Tainton.

He had attended Lincoln Heights schools in Hempfield Township, Westmoreland County, and he had been the owner and operator of a coal mine in Irwin Township, Venango County. In 1972, he retired from Polk Center.

Mr. Tainton was the oldest member of the Albright United Methodist Church in St. Petersburg, Fla. He was a life member of the Woodmen of the World and still enjoyed riding his motorcycle.

His wife, Maryann Cranmer Tainton, died in 1965.

Surviving are his son, Thomas W. Tainton Jr. of Sandy Lake; a sister, Sceola Tainton of St. Petersburg, Fla.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

TAINTON - Friends of Thomas W. Tainton, who died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2002, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the LARRY E. McKINLEY FUNERAL HOME, 109 Emlenton St., Clintonville. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Jack Patterson, retired United Methodist pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Peters Chapel United Methodist Cemetery , Irwin Township, Venango County.

Everett James Michael

Everett James Michael, 83, of San Lorenzo, Calif., died at 10:13 a.m. Jan. 21 at his home following an illness.

Born in New Castle, April 21, 1918, he was the son of James Everett and Florence Elizabeth Harmon Michael.

He was a former member of the Fairview United Presbyterian Church and most recently was a member of the Neighborhood Church of Castro Valley, Calif., where he sang in the choir and toured Europe while participating in the choir’s singing engagements. He also participated in holiday pageants for 15 years.

Until recently, he was a volunteer at the Kaiser Hospital in Hayward, Calif.

He was a member of the Bay Area Model-A Club and was an owner of a 1932 Model A Ford. He also enjoyed gardening.

After graduating from Karns City High School in 1936, he worked for refineries, steel mills and stores in Butler County before entering the Army, where he was a corporal with the 1322nd Service Command Unit Military Police during World War II.

He received a degree in business management and finance at Armstrong College, Berkeley, Calif., and was an engineer in the evaluation department at Pacific Gas & Electric. He retired in 1983 after 31 years.

Surviving are his wife, Violet E. Brandaia Michael, whom he married in May 1991; a son, Gary A. Michael of Sonora, Calif.; two daughters, Mrs. Barry R. (Lynda R.) Dugan of Sonora and Mrs. Paul D. (Barbara A.) Jeffers of Jamestown. Calif.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren;

Also surviving are three brothers, Arthur L. Michael of Chicora and twins, Joseph L. Michael of Clarion and Gerald N. Michael of Vienna, W.Va.; two sisters, Mrs. Eugene (Marie) McElhatten of Butler and Mrs. Dick (Elsie) Kelly of Bruin; and a number of nieces and nephews.

His first wife, Hazel M. Hornbrook Michael, whom he married in Oakland, Calif., in 1945, died 1990.

MICHAEL - Friends of Everett James Michael, who died Monday, Jan. 21, 2002, will be received from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday at RICHARD D. HILLIS FUNERAL HOME, 102 Argyle St., Petrolia. Services will follow at 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Richard Rowe, pastor of Fairview United Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Bear Creek Cemetery , Petrolia.

Robert F. Hendrickson

Robert F. Hendrickson, 79, of 110 Dinnerbell Road, Penn Township, died at 4:56 a.m. Monday at his home.

Born in Pavia, Bedford County, May 1, 1923, he was the son of Frank C. and Ethel Croyle Hendrickson.

He received a bachelor’s degree from Indiana (Pa.) University and his master’s degree from Westminster College and retired as a principal for the South Butler School District. He belonged to the Butler county Elementary Principals Association and the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees. He was a former member of the Penn Township Sewer Authority.

Mr. Hendrickson was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in America, the United Commercial Travelers of America, the VFW and the Saxonburg American Legion. He also had been an elder, trustee and Sunday school teacher at the Calvary Presbyterian Church.

He was a technical sergeant with the 5th Air Force during World War II.

Surviving are his wife, Maxine Blair Hendrickson; a daughter, Pamela Meeder of Utica, N.Y.; two sons, David Hendrickson of Butler and Mark C. Hendrickson of Stockton, N.J.; and two brothers, Thomas and James Hendrickson, both of Pleasant Unity, Pa. Seven grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.

A son and a granddaughter preceded him in death.

HENDRICKSON - There will be no visitation. A memorial service for Robert F. Hendrickson, who died Monday, Jan. 27, 2003, will be held at 11 a.m. Feb. 8 at Westminster Presbyterian Church in America with the Rev. Michael Harvey, assistant pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Summit Presbyterian Church Cemetery , Jefferson Township. THOMPSON-MILLER FUNERAL HOME is handling arrangements
