Ola E. Vensel

February 9, 1916 - March 24, 2008

Ola E. Vensel, age 92 of Ohesson Manor, Lewistown, Pennsylvania, formerly of Meridian died Monday, March 24, 2008 at 5:45 p.m. in the Ohesson Manor.

Born February 9, 1916 in Butler, Pennsylvania she was the daughter of the late W. Frank Cooper and the late Angeline Brown.

Mrs. Vensel was a retired schoolteacher who taught at Northwest School in Butler. She was a former member of Covenant U. P. Church. Mrs. Vensel was an avid gardener and a member of the Buttercup Garden Club. She was a former member of the PSEA, the NEA and an alumni of Grove City College.

Mrs. Vensel is survived by her daughter, Martha A. Wysocki of Burnham, Pennsylvania; two granddaughters, one great-granddaughter, one sister, Mrs. Gertie Mae Service of Gallatin, Tennessee, and by three nieces.

Mrs. Vensel was preceded in death by her husband, W. Frank Vensel who passed away on February 17, 1972 and by one son and one brother.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Thursday, March 27, 2008 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Services will be held at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc. on Thursday, March 27, 2008 at 11:30 a.m. with Reverend Stanley Reep of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in York, Pennsylvania officiating. Interment will follow in Butler County Memorial Park.

Gretchen Helene King

May 24, 1922 - March 20, 2008

Gretchen Helene King, age 85 of Sunset Drive, Butler, Pennsylvania, died Thursday, March 20, 2008 at 1:40 a.m. in the Good Samaritan Hospice at Concordia.

Born May 24, 1922 in Butler, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Ross Everett Curry and the late Carrie Matilda Painter.

Mrs. King was a homemaker. She had formerly worked at the Bus Station which is currently the site of the Tier Parking garage. Mrs. King was a member of North Main Street Church of God and a member of the Keenagers Sunday school class at her church. Mrs. King was a member of the U.C.T., the United Commercial Travelers Auxiliary, a member of the B.U.C.O, the Butler County Travel Trailer Club, and she formerly volunteered at the VA hospital. She enjoyed traveling to Florida and riding her scooter. Mrs. King loved canning fruit, vegetables and meats for 55 years.

Mrs. King is survived by her husband, William John King whom she marriage on September 18, 1945, by her son and his wife, William Rodney and Belinda King of Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania; her daughter and husband, Mrs. James E. (Brenda Lee) Grosclaude of Butler, Pennsylvania; three grandsons, Randy Grosclaude of Butler, Pennsylvania, Colby King of Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania, Trevor King of Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania; one sister, Mrs. Jean Worrell of Ellwood City, Pennsylvania; and by a number of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. King was preceded in death by one brother.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Monday, March 24, 2008 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc. on Tuesday, March 25, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Ken Hall of North Main Street Church Of God officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Burial Estates.

Paul E. Hutchison

July 4, 1928 - March 20, 2008

Paul E. Hutchison, 79, of Lakeview Drive, Butler, Pennsylvania, died Thursday March 20, 2008 at 11:58 a.m. at UPMC Montefiore Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

He was an avid golfer and fisherman. He had a keen sense of humor and a treasure chest of jokes for every occasion.

Born July 4, 1928 in Butler, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late John V. Hutchison and the late Nina B. Kepple Hutchison.

Mr. Hutchison was a physics/science teacher for the Butler High School for 30 years, retiring in1989. He graduated from Butler High School in 1946. He enrolled in the pre-med program at the University of Pittsburgh where he joined the ROTC, and was later called into service. Mr. Hutchison became a U.S. Marine and served in Korea from 1948-1952. When he returned, he attended Clarion State College (now University). He played football and when asked what position he played, he said, "desperate end." He graduated in 1959 and a year later marriage the love of his life, Patricia J. McCandless.

He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church.

He was an active member in the Bantam Marine Corp League Detachment #749 and the Toys for Tots Program. Mr. Hutchison also volunteered many hours at the Butler VA Hospital helping with social activities and crafts. He enjoyed woodworking and bowling, but his first passion was golf.

Mr. Hutchison is survived by his sister, Mrs. Thomas (Mary) Racek and by numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Hutchison was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Patricia J. McCandless Hutchison, who passed away on February 28, 2005 and also by three brothers, John V., Warren D., and Robert C. Hutchison.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Monday, March 24, 2008 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral Service will be held at the Trinity Lutheran Church on Tuesday, March 25, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Thomas M. Pierotti officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Burial Estates.

Memorial contributions may be made to: Trinity Lutheran Church, 120 Sunset Drive, Butler, Pennsylvania 16001.

Officers and members of The Bantam Marine Corp Leaguge Detachment #743 of Butler will conduct military honors at Greenlawn Burial Estates.

Helen E. Bowen

January 4, 1916 - March 19, 2008

Helen E. Bowen, age 92 of Evie's Country Care, Butler, Pennsylvania, formerly of Randy Drive, Butler, died Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at 8:00 a.m. in Evie's County Care.

Born January 4, 1916 in Butler, Pennsylvania she was the daughter of the late Walter A. Kradel and the late Nellie Lardin.

Mrs. Bowen was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church. Mrs. Bowen was a member of the South Haven 500 Club.

Mrs. Bowen is survived by two sons, W. Allen "Shorty" Bowen, and David C. Bowen both of Butler, Pennsylvania; six grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter, three sisters, Mrs. Herbert (Agnes) Schmeider, Mrs. William (Myrtle) Bachman, Mrs. Robert (Wanda) Reimer all of Butler, Pennsylvania; one brother, Richard L. Kradel of Tionesta, Pennsylvania and by a number of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Bowen was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer A. Bowen who passed away on August 7, 19980 and also by two sisters and three brothers.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Friday, March 21, 2008 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 and also on Saturday from 1 to 2 p.m.

Services will be held at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc. on Saturday, March 22, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Dr. Alden Towberman of St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will follow in Butler County Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Visiting Nurses Association, 154 Hindman Road, Butler, Pennsylvania 16001.

David W. Fry

December 1, 1933 - March 18, 2008

David W. Fry, age 74 of Prospect Road, Evans City, Pennsylvania, died Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at 10:30 p.m. in the U.P.M.C. Presbyterian.

Born December 1, 1933 in Butler, Pennsylvania he was the son of the late John O. Fry and the late Ruth Watters Fry.

Mr. Fry worked in the silicon department for Armco retiring in 1993 after 42 years of service. He attended Victory Family Church in Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania. Mr. Fry was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in the Korean War. He was also an avid woodworker and repaired lawn mowers.

Mr. Fry is survived by his wife, Pearl M. Shelenberger Fry whom he marriage on September 15, 1962, three daughters and their husbands, Tammy and Sam Toy of Fenelton, Pennsylvania, Lauralee and Steve Grasak of Economy Boro, Pennsylvania, Cheryl and Dan Henry of Evans City, Pennsylvania; three grandchildren, Amanda Toy, Brittany Toy, Tyler Henry; one sister, Joan Carothers of New Castle, Pennsylvania; and by a number of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Fry was preceded in death by one sister Noretta Minglin.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Friday, March 21, 2008 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc. on Saturday, March 22, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Keith Eggert of Victory Family Church officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Burial Estates.

Officers and member of the VFW Post #249 and the American Legion #778 will conduct military honors at the Cemetery.

Vance Wesley Burtner

June 24, 1924 - March 18, 2008

Vance Wesley Burtner, age 83 of Rockdale Road, Butler, Pennsylvania, died Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at 2:45 a.m. at his residence.

Born June 24, 1924 in Butler, Pennsylvania he was the son of the late Forest H. Burtner and the late Lena Giles Burtner.

Mr. Burtner was a self-employed farmer. He was a member of Thorn Creek United Methodist church, a Sunday school teacher, Country Bell Director, Agway Directors, Jefferson Township Supervisor for 12 years and a Full Gospel Businessmen. Mr. Burtner enjoyed Church fellowship, farming, gardening and flowers, growing giant pumpkins, writing poetry and reading.

Mr. Burtner is survived by his wife of 60 years, Esther E. Hogg Burtner, whom he marriage on January 2, 1948, by four sons and their wives, David V. Burtner and Durfee, Darell E. Burtner and Paula, Duane W. Burtner and Mary, Darwin M. Burtner and Kathy; eleven grandchildren, Brett Burtner and his wife Michelle, Noah Burtner, Levi Burtner, Ellie Burtner, Ashley Burtner, Alicia Burtner, Ben Burtner and his wife Tracy, Seth Burtner and his wife Lindsey, Travis Burtner, Todd Burtner and Tiffany Burtner; eight brothers, Arthur Burtner of Butler, Pennsylvania, Giles Burtner of Webster, New York, Keith Burtner of Butler, Pennsylvania, Roger Burtner of Brady, Texas, Vernon Burtner of Marionville, Mo, Wendall Burtner of Rochester, New York, Russell Burtner of Washington, North Carolina, Harry Burtner of Butler, Pennsylvania; four sisters, Joyce Trumbauer of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Jessie Skinner of Warren, Indiana, Mary Francis Boggs of Cabot, Pennsylvania, Marilyn Glasgow of Butler, Pennsylvania; and by numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Burtner was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Thursday, March 20, from 7 to 9 p.m. and also on Friday, March 21, 2008 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the Thorn Creek United Methodist Church on Saturday, March 22, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Kurt Knobel and Pastor Rich Fagen of Thorn Creek United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be in Greenlawn Burial Estates.

Contributions may be made to Thorn Creek United Methodist Church, 142 Rockdale Road, Butler, Pennsylvania 16001 or to the Hospice Program of the Visiting Nurses Association, 154 Hindman Road, Butler, Pennsylvania 16001or to the Hillman Cancer Center, 5115 Centre Avenue, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania 15232.
