Kenneth L. Matson

November 7, 1935 - August 12, 2005

Kenneth L. Matson, age 69 of Butler, Pennsylvania died Friday, August 12, 2005 at 3:04 p.m. in the emergency room at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born November 7, 1935 in Butler, Pennsylvania he was the son of the late Darryl Matson and the late Helen Vinroe and the son-in-law of the late Robert and Thelma Clemens.

He was a member of Grace @ Calvary Lutheran Church.

Mr. Matson was a retired steel worker in the pipe shop at AK (Armco) Steel. He was an avid grouse hunter. He enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, woodworking and building things.

Mr. Matson is the beloved husband of Sondra "Sonnie" (Clemens) Matson whom he marriage June 8, 1957. They were marriage 48 years. He was a loving father of Mrs. Tom (Marcy) Reiser and Mrs. Steve (LeAnn) Yamnitsky both of Butler. He was a devoted grandfather to Zachary Reiser and to Steven and Marlee Yamnitsky. He is also survived by 2 Sisters: Mrs. Richard (Alice) Stewart and Mrs. George (Wanda) Beck. both of Butler and 2 Brothers: Raymond and wife Mary Matson and Jim and wife Marsha Matson of Butler. And a number of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Matson was preceded in death by a sister: Mrs. Mark (Carol) Mincer.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Monday, August 15, 2005 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc. on Tuesday, August 16, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Timothy Bupp officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Burial Estates.

Contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Edna Viola McCandless

January 11, 1909 - March 2, 2007

Edna Viola McCandless, age 98 of Chicora Road, Butler, Pennsylvania, passed away Friday March 2, 2007 at 12:50 a.m. at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born January 11, 1909 in Butler, Pennsylvania she was the daughter of the late Harry Watterson and the late Phoebe Reges Watterson.

Mrs. McCandless was a tailor/seamstress for Fisher's Cleaners for nearly fifty years. Working there until the business was destroyed by a fire. She also was employed at the Bantam Jeep Plant during the war and the Spaide Shirt factory following the war. She enjoyed sewing and gardening and loved being with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Mrs. McCandless is survived by one daughter, Patricia Kriess and her husband Larry of Butler, Pennsylvania, a son, Eugene Clayton McCandless and his wife Patricia of Waldorf, Maryland; a grand-daughter, Tammy Codispot of Butler, Pennsylvania; four grandsons, Eugene Clayton McCandless Jr. of Faulkner, Maryland, John Holt Jr. of Chicora, Pennsylvania, Chad Holt of Butler, Pennsylvania, Dirk Holt of Prospect, Pennsylvania; twelve great-grandchildren, Taylor McCandless, Kallie McCandless, Ashlee Codispot, Allison Codispot, Andrew Codispot, Annie Codispot, Dustin Holt, Autumn Holt, Clayton Holt, Aaron Holt, Amelia Holt, Amanda Holt, and by several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her constant companion "Pandora".

Mrs. McCandless was preceded in death by her husband Clayton Raymond McCandless on January 21, 1963, by one son and daughter in-law and four grandchildren who all were lost in a car accident and by four sisters and two brothers.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Sunday March 4, 2007 from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Monday, March 5, 2007 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc. on Tuesday, March 6, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. with the Reverend Dr. Robert Peterson of St. John's Reformed Church, Butler, Pennsylvania officiating. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Richard R. McPherson

February 7, 1940 - March 26, 2007

Richard R. McPherson, Sr., age 67 of Lawrence Avenue, Butler, Pennsylvania, died Monday, March 26, 2007 at 9:20 a.m. at his residence.

Born February 7, 1940 in Reynoldsville, Pennsylvania he was the son of the late Ralph E. McPherson and the late Eula I. Snyder McPherson.

Mr. McPherson was an electrician for Armco Steel. He was a graduate of Butler High School class of 1957 and earned his associates degree from Butler County Community College. Mr. McPherson was a charter member of the Happy Hunters Club, the Masonic Lodge #694 F&AM, Caravan #14 Butler and the Syria Shrine. He was an avid outdoorsman and he enjoyed playing golf.

Mr. McPherson is survived by two sons, Richard McPherson, Jeffrey A. McPherson; two daughters, Veronica J. Bayer, Valerie J. Byrne all of Butler, Pennsylvania; seven grandchildren, three brothers, Ronald McPherson, John McPherson, Charles McPherson all of Butler, Pennsylvania; two sisters, Connie McElhaney of Fenelton, Pennsylvania, Mary Covert of Butler, Pennsylvania and by numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. McPherson was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce M. (Hilovsky) McPherson who died August 24, 1999 and by one grandchild and one brother.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Wednesday, March 28, 2007 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc. on Thursday, March 29, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Dennis Krajacic of Community Alliance Church officiating. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Contributions may be made to Happy Hunters, Post Office Box Two, Fenelton, Pennsylvania 16034.

Officers and member of Victory Lodge #694 will meet at the funeral home on Wednesday March 28, 2007 at 6:45 PM to conduct memorial services.

Garnet Eugene "Smokey" Hartzell

November 29, 1925 - March 27, 2007

Garnet Eugene (Smokey) Hartzell, age 81 of Kiser Road, Butler, Pennsylvania, died Tuesday, March 27, 2007 at 1:15 p.m. in the Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born November 29, 1925 in New Castle, Pennsylvania he was the son of the late William Hartzell and the late Nina Ziegler.

Mr. Hartzell was a retired truck driver for Mertz Barkley Trucking. He was a veteran of WW II serving in the U. S. Army, in the South Pacific Theatre. He was a life member of the VFW in Orlando, Florida.

Mr. Hartzell is survived by a son Ronald Mulneix of Topeka, Kansas; five daughters, Judi Ruley of Butler, Pennsylvania, Mrs. James (Jackie) King of Pleasent City, Ohio, Frances Edinger of Butler, Pennsylvania, Linda Hawkins of Butler, Pennsylvania, Mrs. Frank (Cindy) Deal of Butler, Pennsylvania; one brother, Ernie Hartzell of New Castle, Pennsylvania; two sisters, Anna Mae Stankey of Mars, Pennsylvania, and Bonnie Gray of Butler, Pennsylvania; twenty-four grandchildren, Numerous great-grandchildren, great-great- grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

Mr. Hartzell was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Ruth (Trautman) Hartzell who died February 20, 1998, and also by three brothers and one sister.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Friday, March 30, 2007 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

Services will be held at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc. on Friday, March 30, 2007 at 8:00 p.m. with Reverend Thomas M. Pierotti of Trinity Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will be in Butler County Memorial Park.

Dean R. Snow

August 18, 1930 - March 27, 2007

Dean R. Snow, age 76 of Dewey Avenue, Butler, Pennsylvania, died Tuesday, March 27, 2007 at 9:30 p.m. in the Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born August 18, 1930 in Bruin, Pennsylvania he was the son of the late Melvin R. Snow and the late Lydia M. Painter.

Mr. Snow was a machinist for Spang Company for 30 years, retiring in 1982. He then went to work for Magnetics and retired in 1993. Mr. Snow was a member of Hill United Presbyterian Church where he was also a former Elder and Deacon at his church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Korean War, where he earned bronze stars. Mr. Snow was a member of the V.F.W., Parker Post #7073. Mr. Snow enjoyed camping and traveling throughout the U.S. including Alaska with his beloved wife. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and a muzzle-loading enthusiast.

Mr. Snow is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Norma Jean (Eury) Snow, who he marriage on October 12, 1952; by four sons and the wives, Melvin R. "Skip and Linda Snow, Dean R. and Sharon Snow, Jr., Wm. Scott and Sherie Snow all of Butler, Pennsylvania, and Jamie L. Snow of Cleveland, Ohio; seventeen grandchildren, one great-granddaughter; one half-brother and his wife, Barry and Lynn Sheakley of Rifle, Colorado.

Mr. Snow was preceded in death by one daughter, Virginia Marie and two brothers.

A Memorial Services will be held at the Hill United Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, April 3, 2007 at 4:00 p.m. with Reverend Clark Sawyer Reverend John Porter of Hill United Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment will be in Bear Creek Cemetery.

Contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, 320 Bilmar Drive, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania 15205.

Ruth E. Stepp

March 22, 1918 - March 28, 2007

Ruth E. Stepp, age 89 of Lowrie House, Butler, Pennsylvania, died Wednesday, March 28, 2007 at 3:35 a.m. in the Lowrie House.

Born March 22, 1918 in Butler, Pennsylvania she was the daughter of the late Walter Hagan and the late Mayme Shindledecker Hagan.

Mrs. Stepp was a homemaker. She was protestant by faith and she enjoyed music.

Mrs. Stepp is survived by two daughters, Marsha E. Matson and Mrs. Dale E. (Karen) Dunn both of Butler, Pennsylvania; one son, Mr. Larry G. Stepp of Beaver, Pennsylvania; seven grandsons, one grand-daughter, six great-grandchildren, and two step-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Stepp was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald T. Stepp who passed away on June 9, 1991 and also by two sisters and one grandson.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Friday, March 30, 2007 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc. on Saturday, March 31, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. with Reverend Dr. Alden Towberman of St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Burial Estates.
