Freda L. McElhaney

June 6, 1923 - January 25, 2006

Freda L. McElhaney, age 82 of Mar-Vel Drive, Butler, Pennsylvania, died Wednesday, January 25, 2006 at 5:40 p.m. in the Chicora Medical Center.

Born June 6, 1923 in Mount Chestnut, Pennsylvania she was the daughter of the late Alferd Eugene Dunn and the late Olive Hutchison.

Mrs. McElhaney was a homemaker and had worked at the Pennsylvania Refinery and at Montgomery Wards. She was a member of St. John's Reformed Church, Meridian. She was an alumni of the Butler High school. Mrs. McElhaney also enjoyed sending greeting cards to shut-ins.

Mrs. McElhaney is survived by her husband, Harry G. McElhaney whom she marriage on June 6, 1946, a brother, Dale E. Dunn; two sisters, Mrs. A. Geraldine Uber, Mrs. Francis (Gloria) Marte all of Butler, Pennsylvania; and by two nieces and six nephews.

Mrs. McElhaney was preceded in death by a brother.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Friday, January 27, 2006 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc. on Saturday, January 28, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Robert Peterson of St. John's Reformed Church officiating. Entombment will follow in Chapel of Devotion, Butler County Memorial Park.

Contributions may be made to St. John's Reformed Church, Box 30, Meridian Station, Butler, Pennsylvania 16001.

Edythe M. Schubert

December 16, 1924 - January 5, 2006

Edythe M. Schubert, age 81 of Butler, Pennsylvania, died Wednesday, January 25, 2006 at 7:00 a.m. at her residence.

Born December 16, 1924 in Lawrenceville, Pennsylvania she was the daughter of the late Henry S. Allen and the late Margaret E. O'Connor.

Mrs. Schubert was a homemaker and a member of Glade Run Church.

Mrs. Schubert is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Richard J. (Edythe) Kern and Mrs. Clifford G. (Bobbie) Anderson, Jr. both of Butler, Pennsylvania; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Lois J. Finke of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and by a number of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Schubert was preceded in death by she her husband, Robert C. Schubert who passed away on February 15, 2000, and by one great-grandchild.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Thursday, January 26, 2006 from 6 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc. on Friday, January 27, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. with Reverend Greg Weist of Glade Run Church and Reverend Dr. Chris Marshall of New Life Christian Ministries, Butler officiating. Interment will follow in Riverview Memorial Park.

Contributions may be made to Glade Run Church, 1091 Pittsburgh Road, Valencia, Pennsylvania 16050 or to Butler County Community Meals on Wheels, 1091 Pittsburgh Road, Valencia, Pennsylvania 16059.

Denis G. Ram

June 11, 1935 - January 25, 2006

Denis G. Ram, age 70 of Belmont Road, Butler, Pennsylvania, died Wednesday, January 25, 2006 at 10:50 a.m. at his residence.

Born June 11, 1935 in Dhamtari, Central India, he was the son of the late James Govind Ram and the late Ethel Muriel Ulrick Ram.

Mr. Ram was a marketing executive for Consumer Goods. He was a member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church and Asian Indian Christian Church, Pittsburgh. Mr. Ram was a member of the Indian Masonic Order, Chairman of the Indian Tea Association, Zone 3. He was an elder and Stephen Minister at St. Andrews. He was also a member of the Committee on Ministry for Beaver-Butler Presbytery. Mr. Ram was a founding member and president of the Asian Indian Christian Church and a member of the Asian Indian Fellowship. Mr. Ram was also a member of the Rotary.

Mr. Ram is survived by three daughters, Namrata Ram Andriessens and her husband Erik Andriessens of Brussels, Belgium, Sujata Ram and her husband Geoffrey Blate of Silver Spring, Maryland, Kavita and her husband Mike Meneely of Kaneohe, Hawaii; three grandchildren, Adrian Denis Jacques Andriessens, Serena Shunila Jane Andriessens, and Tara Elizabeth Meneely, five siblings, Olga Ram, Helga Nallathambi, Eric Ram, Leslie Ram, and Donna Paul.

Mr. Ram was preceded in death by his wife, Shunila N. Ram who passed away on April 18, 2005, and by one brother, Cecil Ram.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Friday, January 27, 2006 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the St. Andrew's United Presbyterian Church on Saturday, January 28, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Merry Hope Meloy of St. Andrew's United Presbyterian Church and Thinagar Sitther pastor at the Asian Indian Christian Church officiating. Interment will follow in North Side Cemetery.

In Lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Andrews U. P. Church Memorial Fund, 201 East Jefferson Street, Butler, Pennsylvania 16001 or to The Building Fund of the Asian Indian Christian Church of Pittsburgh, 353 Ridge Avenue, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania 15221.

Samuel J. Turner

October 20, 2006 - January 23, 2006

Samuel J. Turner, age 81 of Wyle Avenue, formerly of New Castle Street, died Monday, January 23, 2006 at the Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born October 20, 1924 in Butler, Pennsylvania, he was the son of Samuel Joseph and Margaret Watterson Turner.

He was in construction and retired from the George Schenck Company. He formerly had worked at Armco-Butler Works.

He was a member of First English Lutheran Church.

Mr. Turner was a World War II veteran.

He enjoyed working on cars and being with his family. He also was an avid dog lover.

Mr. Turner is survived by his wife, Helen McKissick Turner; a son, Sammy J. Turner and his wife, Lorrie, of Butler; and two grandsons, Travis Turner and his wife, Tilini, and Cody Turner, all of Butler. Also surviving are four sisters, Mrs. Marjorie McCune of Renfrew, Mrs. James (Iris) Wood and Mrs. Vivian Kalberer, both of Butler, and Mrs. Chester (Twila) Cypher of Ohio; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister.

Visitation and services are private. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Burial Estates.

Memorial contributions may be made to The Butler County Humane Society, 1027 Evans City Road, Renfrew, Pennsylvania 16053.

Laverne McMillin, Sr.

January 30, 1927 - January 23, 2006

Laverne McMillin, Sr., age 78, of Butler, Pennsylvania, died Monday, January 23, 2006 at 11:45 a.m. in the Butler Veterans Administration Medical Center.

Born January 30, 1927 in Butler, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late John R. and Martha Fend McMillin.

He had been a carpenter for Local 500 of the Carpenters Union and was a member of the union for more than 50 years.

Mr. McMillin was a member of the North Street Christian Church.

He served in the Navy aboard the U.S.S. Saratoga during World War II and was a member of the Joseph T. Black VFW Post 249.

He was an avid outdoorsman. He also enjoyed running foxhounds for more than 50 years and was a member of the Western Pennsylvania Coon and Fox Hunters' Association.

Mr. McMillin, Sr. is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Clarence (Patricia) Brandt of Naples, Florida, and Mrs. Timothy (Susan) Johnston of Connoquenessing, Pennsylvania; two sons, Larry McMillin and Laverne McMillin, Jr. both of Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania; nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. A brother, William Orth of Butler, Pennsylvania; four sisters, Mrs. George (Norene) Steere, Mrs. George (Martha) Baptiste, Mrs. James (Margaret) Gallagher, all of Butler, Pennsylvania and Mrs. Stephen (Judy) Ulanowski of Johnstown, Pennsylvania and many nieces and nephews also survive.

His wife, Margaret R. Carson McMillin, whom he marriage August. 27, 1948, died September. 10, 2005. A son, grandson, sister and brother also preceded him in death.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Wednesday, January 25, 2006 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9.

Services will be held at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc. on Thursday January 26, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Robert C. Huber, his church pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Burial Estates.

Susan K. Nagy

June 8, 1917 - January 23, 2006

Susan K. Nagy, age 88, formerly of East Butler, Pennsylvania, died Monday, January 23, 2006 at 9:05 a.m. in New Haven Court.

Born June 8, 1917 in Goff, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of Daniel and Elizabeth Csorba Kapcsos.

She and her husband had owned and operated Nagy Block Supplies in Butler until their retirement.

Mrs. Nagy was a member and former deacon of the East Butler Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. Nagy is survived by her daughter, Mrs. John (Sandie Jean) Smith of Butler, Pennsylvania; a stepson, James Nagy of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; two grandchildren; four great- grandchildren; one step-granddaughter, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Her husband, James Nagy, died June 2, 1984. Three sisters also preceded her in death.

Friends will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, Pennsylvania on Wednesday, January 25, 2006 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9.

Services will be held at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc. on Thursday, January 26, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Mary J. Sickels, her church pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Program of Visiting Nurses, 154 Hindman Road, Butler, Pennsylvania 16001 or to Butler County Association for the Blind, 322 North McKean Street, Butler, Pennsylvania 16001.
