James Tate, Mount Pleasant
James Vincent "Vinnie" Tate, 34, of Mount Pleasant, died Thursday, Sept. 21, 2000, at his home. He was born Feb. 11, 1966, in Mount Pleasant, a son of Rachel E. Trout Tate of Mount Pleasant and the late John D. Tate, who died in 1971. He was a warehouse worker for Montgomery Wards and was also a bartender for the Assunta Club of Mount Pleasant. Vinnie was a member of the Assunta Club and the Assunta Fantasy Football League and the Kosciuszko Club, all of Mount Pleasant. He was also the co-owner of T&T Tunes of Mount Pleasant. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Crystal D. Hixson Tate; a son, Robert James Tate, at home; brothers and sisters, John D. Tate and his wife, Wendy, Lawrence Tate and his wife, Jane, Ronald Tate and his wife, Ruth, Gary Tate and his wife, Donna, Richard Tate, Sally Rae Tate, Mary Jo Tate, Margaret Ann Tate, all of Mount Pleasant. In addition to his father, Vinnie was preceded in death by his brothers Robert Dean Tate in 1981 and Donald Eggo Tate in 1999. Friends will be received 7 to 9 p.m. today and noon to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at GALONE-CARUSO's, 204 Eagle St., Mount Pleasant, where services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Meredith M. Trout, his uncle, officiating. Mount Pleasant Volunteer Fire Department will meet in the funeral home at 7 p.m. Sunday. Interment will be in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Mount Pleasant.

Barbara A. Dye
Barbara A. Dye, 48, of Connellsville, passed away Sunday, Sept. 24, 2000, in Uniontown Hospital. She was born Feb. 19, 1952, in Connellsville, a daughter of Robert R. and Estelle Lewis Miller, both of Connellsville. She was a Protestant by faith and member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church in Connellsville. She was an administrative secretary for Uniontown Hospital for 16 years and previously held the same position with Connellsville General Hospital now known as Highlands Hospital, for 13 years. She was also a member of the hospital's teamster Local 491. She is survived by her husband, Craig Dye, to whom she was married nine years; three stepchildren, John Powell of Virginia, Trent Powell of Colorado and Carrie Reich of Fairchance; a nephew, Matthew Miller and his wife, Sherry and great-nephew, Adam Games Miller, all of Greensburg; a very special aunt, Edith Geyer of Carlisle and several other nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles. Friends will be received in the VITO C. MARTUCCI FUNERAL HOME, 123 S. First St., West Side, Connellsville, Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday until 10 a.m., the hour of service with the Rev. Elmer Reamer officiating. Interment will follow in Greenridge Memorial Park, Pennsvile.

Nannie E. Hair
Nannie E. Hair, 91, of McClellandtown, and formerly of Connellsville and Dunbar, died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2000, at the Sumey Personal Care Home, McClellandtown. She was born June 21, 1909, in Dunbar, daughter of the late Joseph Thomas and Nannie Ellen Leuckel Hair. She was a retired employee of Anchor Hocking, Connellsville, and was a member of the Franklin Memorial United Methodist Church, Dunbar. She is survived by nieces and nephews. Nannie was the last member of her immediate family being preceded in death by brothers, Daniel, James, William and Joseph and half-brother, Walter, and sisters, Florence Hardy and Margaret Hall. Friends will be received at the BURHANS-CROUSE FUNERAL HOME, 28 Connellsville St., Dunbar, Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday until 10 a.m., the hour of service with the Rev. Jeffrey Popson officiating. Interment, Mount Auburn Cemetery.

Betty A. Minor
Betty Ann McCutcheon Minor, 67, of Lake Ridge, Va., died Friday, Sept. 22, 2000, in the Arlington Hospital, Arlington, Va. She was born Oct. 14, 1932, in Connellsville, a daughter of the late William and Ethel Helms McCutcheon. Mrs. Minor worked as a caregiver for many years and also as a receptionist at the Washington House in Alexandria, Va. She is survived by two daughters, Vicki A. Malloy of Dale City, Va., and Barbara Ann Sidwell of Lake Ridge, Va.; many grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Hugh and William McCutcheon, both of Connellsville. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Clyde H.D. Minor in 1988; one son, William Sidwell; and one sister, Mary Jane Tissue. Friends will be received in the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME, INC., 111 E. Green St., Connellsville, Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow in the Normalville Cemetery. Anna "Ann" Hajost Schurer, businesswoman and lifelong resident of Scottdale, residing on Mumaw Street, died early Sunday morning, Sept. 24, 2000, in Frick Hospital, Mount Pleasant, at the age of 91. Ann was born June 20, 1909, in Scottdale, a daughter of the late John and Elizabeth Zadylak Hajost. She was a lifelong member of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Scottdale. Ann and her late husband, Edward L. Schurer were co-founders of Keystone Block Works, Scottdale, which operated from 1941 to 1965. She and her husband also were associated as owner/operators of the former Schurers Mobile Manor, Porter Avenue, Scottdale, and they were partners of Spring Garden Mobile Home Park, Mount Pleasant. She was a former member of the Pennsylvania Mobile Home Parks Association. Ann leaves to cherish her memories her two devoted sons and daughters-in-law, Larry J. Schurer and his wife, Vivien (Baughman), and John R. "Jack" Schurer and his wife, Kathy (Wisnewski), both of Scottdale; eight grandchildren, Andrea Pritts and her husband, Dave, of Mount Pleasant, John and Kara Schurer of Scottdale, Stephanie Schurer of Pittsburgh, Marcy Jo Schurer of Philadelphia, Brenda Tomechko Penn and her husband, Tim, of Cleveland, Ohio, Ronald Tomechko and his wife, Carrie, of Front Royal, Va., and Thomas Tomechko and his wife, Diane, of Fort Worth, Texas; and six great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Ann was predeceased by her husband, Edward L. Schurer (Dec. 16, 1992); a daughter, Beatrice Joan Tomechko (Aug. 19, 1986); a grandson, Mitchell Lyle Schurer (Feb. 28, 1989); a brother, Stanley Hajost; a sister, Margaret Raley; and two sisters in infancy. Ann's family will receive friends in the FRANK KAPR FUNERAL HOME INC., 417 W. Pittsburgh St., Scottdale, Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A blessing service will be held Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by her funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10 a.m. in St. John the Baptist RC Church, Scottdale. Interment will follow in St. John the Baptist RC Parish Cemetery, Scottdale.

Ruth L. Hepler
Ruth L. Hepler, 69, of Mount Pleasant, died Monday, Sept. 25, 2000, at her home. She was born April 21, 1931, at Ohiopyle, a daughter of the late Harrison and Lucy Jane Moon Taylor. She was a graduate of the former Ohiopyle High School and she was employed at Seven Springs Mountain Resort for over 22 years. She is survived by two sons, Harlon Hepler of Belle Vernon and Hartford Hepler of Ruffsdale; two daughters, Jaclyn Millen and her husband, Scott, of Mount Pleasant and Cynthia Hepler of Greensburg. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by two brothers, Lewis and Robert Taylor, and two sisters, Fern Thorpe and Mary J. Woodmancy. Friends will be received at the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., 111 E. Green St., Connellsville, Wednesday and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Joe Payne officiating. Interment will follow in the Maple Summit Cemetery.

Roy E. Miller
Roy E. Miller, 79, formerly of Connellsville, died Monday, Sept. 25, 2000 in Western Reserve Convalescent Home in Erie. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the PAUL G. FINK FUNERAL HOME, INC., Connellsville (628-1872) and will be announced when complete.

Nettie Mildred Sanner
Nettie Mildred Sanner, 87, of White, died Monday, Sept. 25, 2000 in JoElla's Personal Care Home, Scottdale. She was born May 31, 1913, in Saltlick Township, a daughter of the late William S. and Luzetta Shaffer Ulery. She was a long time resident of the White area and was a former employee of the Norvelt Sewing Factory and also formerly worked for the Paul J. Trimbur Company, Champion. She was a member of the Buchanan Church of God in White and also was a former Sunday School teayourself and be more productive

Another spotlight of Saturday's banquet came when Judith McNeil was awarded the Mon Valley Branch N.A.A.C.P. award for her work with the ACT-SO program. McNeil brought the national organization ACT-SO - which stands for the Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics -ers. Friends will be recieved in the CLYDE BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., Route 711, Melcroft, today from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. A funeral service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Timothy Beatty officiating. Interment will follow in the Ulery Cemetery at White.

Arnold Dale Ulery
Arnold Dale Ulery, 73, of Connellsville, died Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2000, in the Beverly Health Care Center, Uniontown. He was born Aug. 31, 1927, in Melcroft, a son of the late Crawford Ulery and Edith Howard Ulery Collett. He was a former employee of the former B & O Railroad in Connellsville and later retired as a salesman having worked for Montgomery Wards and various other companies. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army and was a former member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows in Elkins, W. Va. He is survived by his children, Brian Ulery and his wife Julie (Kukurugya) of Winter Haven, Fla., Holly Carafa and her husband Mark of Uniontown, Ava Ulery of Uniontown, Curtis Ulery and his wife Paula of Huntingtown, Md., Pam Nicknadarvich and her husband Bruno of Frederick, Md., and Karina Draughan of Glen Burnie, Md.; his grandchildren, Steven Wise, Ian and Sarah Manicom, all of Frederick, Md., and Kristin Draghan of Glen Burnie, Md.; a brother, Carl Ulery and his wife Ann of Northern Cambria; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by brother, Ronald Ulery. Friends will be received in the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., 111 E. Green St., Connellsville, Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral service will be held Friday at 1 p.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Richard Ulery, his nephew, officiating. A committal service and interment will follow in Green Ridge Memorial Park, Pennsville.

Ruth L. Hepler
Ruth L. Hepler, 69, of Mount Pleasant, died Monday, Sept. 25, 2000, at her home. Friends will be received at the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., 111 E. Green St., Connellsville, today and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Joe Payne officiating. Interment will follow in the Maple Summit Cemetery.

Roy E. Miller
Roy E. Miller, 79, formerly of Connellsville, died Monday, Sept. 25, 2000, in Western Reserve Convalescent Home, Erie. He was born March 2, 1921, in Westmoreland County, a son of the late Annais and Edith Bells Miller. He was a veteran of World War II serving with the U.S. Army. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a truck driver for the Salvation Army. Roy was a member of the First United Brothers Church and the American Legion Post #41. He is survived by his wife, Leona (Howells) Miller; four children, Roy E. Miller Jr., Robert Miller, Debbie Miller and Thelma Law; several grandchildren; brother Clarence Miller; and sister Esther Jean Miller. Visitation will be held in the PAUL G. FINK FUNERAL HOME, INC., 418 N. Pittsburgh St., Connellsville, today from 9 until 11 a.m., the hour of the funeral service with the Rev. Del Sepkovic officiating. Interment will follow in Normalville Cemetery.

Bernice L. Smith
Bernice L. "Bunky" Smith, 74, of Connellsville, passed away Friday, Sept. 22, 2000, in Highlands Hospital, Connellsville. She was born June 21, 1926, in Renova, a daughter of the late Saul Charles and Virginia Watcherson Stroup. She was a protestant by faith and attended the Central Fellowship Church in Connellsville. She was also a member of the United Methodist Church in North Bend, where she had resided for many years before moving to this area. She is survived by her first husband, Donald L. Summerson of Dover; three sons, Jeffery L. Summerson and his wife Connie of Connellsville, Terry W. Summerson and his wife Mary L. of Fairmont, W. Va. and Charles S. Smith and his wife Marsha of Lockhaven; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Mildred L. Stimpson of Connellsville; and a sister-in-law, Betty Emerick of North Bend. She was predeceased by her second husband, James E. Smith in 1976. A memorial service for Bernice L. "Bunky" Smith will be held on Saturday, Sept. 30, 2000, at 9:30 a.m. in the Central Fellowship Church with the Rev. Ray Keefer officiating. The family invites all friends and acquaintances to attend the services for Bernice L. "Bunky" Smith. A social gathering will be held at the church following the services in which everyone is invited to attend. In lieu of flowers the family requests any donations be made to the Central Fellowship Church, 316 N. Arch St., Connellsville. Arrangements are under the direction of the VITO C. MARTUCCI FUNERAL HOME, 123 S. First St., West Side Connellsville.

Clyde A. Connor Jr.
Clyde A. Connor Jr., 56, of Greensboro, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2000, at his residence. He was born Oct. 24, 1943, in Connellsville, a son of the late Clyde A. Connor Sr., and Dorothy Mae Nicholson Connor. He was a self-employed roofing contractor. Mr. Connor was a member of the Landmark Baptist Church in Waynesburg. Surviving are his wife, Evelyn M. Lockard Connor, to whom he was married for 31 years; three daughters, Tonia A. Keys and her husband, Richard of Waynesburg, Rhonda A. Pritchard and her husband, Paul of Greensboro and Barbara A. Connor at home; two sons, Clyde (Mouse) A. Connor III and his wife, Kelly of Mars and Rex A. Connor, at home; five grandchildren, Ricky and Damon Keys, Sierra and MaKaleigh Pritchard and Mallory Connor; two brothers, Ron Rummel and Robert Connor of Connellsville; six sisters, Ida (Cookie) McKenzie, Judy Gehring and her husband, Rob, Joanne Henry and her husband, Larry and Carolyn Faye Lilley and her husband, Thomas W., all of Connellsville, Betty Vanorsdale and her husband, Robert of Morrell, and Janet Fordyce and her husband, John of Little Summit. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, and two sisters, Barbara Rummell and Patty Rummell. Friends will be received in the VITO C. MARTUCCI FUNERAL HOME, 123 S. First St., West Side, Connellsville, today from 6 to 9 p.m. and on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and on Saturday until 11 a.m., the hour of service, with the Rev. Arnold Watts officiating. Interment will follow in Indian Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Mill Run.
