Kathryn Petlak Link, 97, of Keisterville, Pa., passed away Sunday, August 20, 2000, in May-Day Personal Care Home, Uniontown.
She was born December 25, 1902, in West Virginia, daughter of Joseph Petlak and Mary Galuska Petlak.
She was a member of Saint Casimir Roman Catholic Church in Keisterville.
Her husband, Frank Link, two sons, Thomas Link and Robert Link, four brothers, Adam, Lewis, Casmir and Andrew Petlak, and her parents preceded her in death.
She is survived by a daughter, Helen and her husband, Michael DeSantis, of Brooklyn, New York; a daughter-in-law, Beulah Link of Pittsburgh, Pa.; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Helen Sholtis of Van Meter, Pa.
Friends will be received in the DEARTH FUNERAL HOME, New Salem, Pa., today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday, August 23, until 9 a.m. when brief prayers will be said.
A Mass of Christian Burial follows at 9:30 a.m. in St. Casimir Roman Catholic Church, Keisterville, with Rev. Fr. John A. Sedlak as Celebrant.
Interment will follow in LaFayette Memorial Park, Brier Hill, Pa.
Parish Wake Service will be held today at 3:30 p.m.
Charles E. Miller
Charles E. Miller, 83, of Akron, Ohio, and formerly of Fairchance, Pa., died Monday, August 21, 2000, in Akron City Hospital, Akron, Ohio, following a short illness.
He was born September 27, 1916, the son of Ewing M. Miller and Elsie Doolittle Miller.
His wife, Eileen O'Herron Miller, a brother, Jay W. Miller of Philadelphia, Pa., and his parents preceded him in death.
He is survived by a daughter, Marilyn Miller of Akron, Ohio; a son, Kevin Miller of Beaverton, Oregon; a granddaughter, Jessica Miller of Beaverton, Oregon; two brothers: Robert D. Miller and his wife, Bonnie, of Hopwood, Pa., and Dr. Raymond E. Miller and his wife, Shirley, of Hopwood, Pa.; three sisters: Jean Newton of Orlando, Florida, June M. Glisan and her husband, Sam, of Fairchance, Pa., and Patricia Miller of Fairchance, Pa.; and a dear friend, Christine Dimtroff of Akron, Ohio.
Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced.
Fred F. Polosky
Fred F. Polosky, 84, a former coal miner and retired millwright who was the first recipient of The John Mannix Hall of Honor Award for volunteer work on behalf of seniors, died Wednesday, August 16, 2000, at his home in Cleveland, Ohio.
John Mannix, for whom the award was named, was the founder of the Cleveland Blue Cross plan and was considered the "Father of Blue Cross Plans" across the country.
Mr. Polosky was chosen for the honor in 1991 from a pool of nominees from throughout the state of Ohio.
Mr. Polosky was known as "The Candy Man" for his gifts of candy during his weekly visits to area nursing homes. He volunteered at the Franklin Plaza Nursing Home and the Cuyahoga County Nursing Home.
Mr. Polosky, nicknamed "Fritz", did not confine his volunteer work to the elderly. He served as President of the St. Vincent De Paul Society at St. Stephen Catholic Church and helped with the distribution of food, clothing, furniture, and money for utility bills to needy people on the West Side of Cleveland. He also logged numerous hours at the Brecksville Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
Mr. Polosky was born February 27, 1916, in Republic, Fayette County, Pa., the son of John and Nellie Polosky.
He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps during the Depression, then worked in Pennsylvania coal mines including Isabella Mine and Tower Hill Two Mine.
When World War II broke out, he served in the 3rd Army in the European Theater of Operations. He saw combat in North Africa and Europe and was wounded twice. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart and four Bronze Stars.
Mr. Polosky returned to the coal mines after the war and was a member of a Rescue Team until he moved to Cleveland in 1955.
He then worked at Republic Steel Corporation until he retired in 1976. He remained active with the United Steelworkers Local 2265 retirees organization.
He was a member of the Polish Legion of American Veterans and also the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He was an usher and altar server at St. Stephen Catholic Church and a member of The Holy Name Society.
His wife, the former Lorraine Eddie, formerly of Thompson One, Pa., died in 1995. Also deceased are a brother, John Polosky, sisters, Helen Polosky Pawelko and Anne Polosky Kelly, and his parents.
He is survived by four daughters: Dolores and her husband, Jerry Palikij, of Buffalo Grove, Illinois, Frances and her husband, Joseph Teschke, of Huntley, Illinois, Carolyn and her husband, David Szucs, of Parma, Ohio, and Rita and her husband, Arthur Cooke, of Carson City, Nevada; a son, Fred Polosky and his wife, Susan, of Cleveland, Ohio; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Frank Polosky of Florida and Edward Polosky of Thompson Two, Pa.; and one sister, Victoria Polosky Prokopek of Lombardi, Illinois.
Visitation was held at the CRACIUN FUNERAL HOME, 14925 East Bagley Road at Pearl Road, Middleburg Heights, Ohio, on Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Army Veterans stood Guard at the Funeral Home during visiting hours.
A Funeral Mass was celebrated Monday, August 21, at 10 a.m. in St. Stephen Catholic Church, 1930 West 54th Street, Cleveland, Ohio.
Interment followed in Holy Cross Cemetery where Military Honors were accorded.
Luella Stillwagon Saylor
Luella Stillwagon Saylor, 88, a lifelong resident of Connellsville, Pa., died Monday, August 21, 2000, in Eicher's Family Home, Normalville.
She is survived by seven children: Naomi Saylor Miller of Ravenna, Ohio, Frank Saylor and wife Mary of Connellsville, Paul Saylor and wife Audrey of Churchville, New York, James Saylor and wife Juanita of Connellsville, Ruth Saylor Rich and husband Donald Rich of Connellsville, Mary Saylor Evans of South Connellsville, and John Saylor and wife Patty of Schulton, Pa.; 22 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Kenneth Paes of Grindstone, Pa.
Friends will be received in the Paul G. Fink Funeral Home Inc., 418 North Pittsburgh St., Connellsville, Pa., today from 1 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.
Elmer R. Shipley
Elmer R. Shipley, 79, of Mill Run, died Saturday, Aug. 19, 2000, at his residence.
Four daughters survive him, Mrs. Gilbert (Catherine E.) Ohler, Mrs. Harry (Theresa D.) Curry and Mrs. Bill (Caroline J.) Shields all of Mill Run and Mrs. Dave (Linda Garlitz Shipley) Shallenberger of Connellsville; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Trudy D. Sparks, 43, of Indian Head, died Sunday, Aug. 20, 2000, in Highlands Hospital.
She is survived by her parents, William R. and Helen M. Nedrow Sparks of Indian Head; three brothers, Tom and Jim Sparks both of Indian Head and Tim Sparks of Melcroft; four sisters, Mrs. Michael (Deborah) Ernesty of Indian Head, Monica Crocetti of Indian Head, Mrs. Barry (Stephanie) Huey of Champion and Trisha Sparks of Steubenville, Ohio and her paternal grandmother, Helen C. Sparks of Indian Head.
Friends will be received at Clyde Brooks Funeral Home Inc., Route 711, Melcroft, today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. until 10 a.m. Wednesday.
Norman Weiner
Norman Weiner, 74, a resident of Brooklyn, New York, and formerly of Uniontown, Pa., died in New York City Sunday, August 20, 2000.
He was production manager for the former Berkowitz Company in Uniontown, Pa.
He is survived by his wife, Sarah Cohen Weiner; nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received in the J. HARRY JOHNSTON FUNERAL HOME, 65 North Gallatin Avenue, Uniontown, Pa., on Wednesday, August 23, from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Services will be held at 11 a.m.
Interment will follow in Holy Society Cemetery, Hopwood, Pa.
Rose Mancini Angelelli
Rose Mancini Angelelli, 89, of Brownsville, Pa., died Monday, Aug. 14, 2000, in Brownsville General Hospital.
She was born Dec. 21, 1910, in Edenborn, Pa., daughter of the late Santo and Gina Mattei Mancini.
Rose was a member of the Historic Church of St. Peter's of Brownsville, Pa., the Christian Mothers, and the Sons of Italy of Brownsville, Pa.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Giuseppe (Joseph) Angelelli on Feb. 6, 1963; three brothers, Etelo, Ben and Gino Mancini; and a sister, Bernadine Sundstrum.
She is survived by a daughter, Marie Joanne LeBlanc of Gardner, Mass.; four sons, Richard Angelelli of Brownsville, Pa., Robert Angelelli of Hackensack, N.J., Ronald Angelelli of Springfield, Va., and Robert Angelelli of Bethel Park, Pa.; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Marty Mancini of Hiller, Pa., and Louis Mancini of New Salem, Pa.; and a sister, Irma Miller of Cleveland, Ohio.
Friends will be received in the SKIRPAN FUNERAL HOME, 135 Park St., Brownsville, Pa., today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m., where a prayer service will be held on Thursday at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m., in the Historic Church of St. Peter's of Brownsville, Pa., with the Rev. Fr. Vincent Gigliotti as celebrant. Interment will be in St. Peter's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Vincent De Paul Association. St. Peter's Christian Mothers will recite the Rosary today at 3:30 p.m., in the funeral home.
