Richard I. Childs, Sr., 76, of 350 E. Jackson St., New Holland, died Monday evening at Ephrata Community Hospital where he had been a patient since Thursday. He is survived by his wife, Joan A. (Walton) Childs. They would have celebrated their 20th anniversary on October 28. His first wife, Agnes (Rampulla) Childs preceded him in death in 1981. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Ira and Minnie (Bowers) Childs. Mr. Childs had been a maintenance mechanic for various companies, retiring in 1989 from National Bearings Company. He currently worked part-time for New Holland Fence. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. A member of Meadville Mennonite Church, he served on the Cemetery committee of the church. He also enjoyed woodworking and camping. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters: Barbara marriage to Richard Gerz, Lancaster; Megan Childs and Janetta Childs, both at home; three sons: Richard Childs, Jr.; Ryan Childs; and Jonathan Childs, all at home; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Also two brothers: Joseph marriage to Ramolla Childs, Greenville, SC and Harold marriage to Louisa Childs, Palm Coast, FL; and one sister, Ruth Morrison, Millville, DE. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral on Saturday, July 12, 2003 at 10 am at the Meadville Mennonite Church, 5626 Meadville Rd., Gap with the Reverend John D. Meck officiating. Interment in the adjoining church Cemetery. Friends may call at the Groff-High Funeral Home, 145 W. Main St., New Holland on Friday from 7 - 9 pm and at the church on Saturday from 9 - 10 am.

Fasnacht, Leona H.

LEONA H. FASNACHT, 87, OF 2499 Zerbe Road, Narvon, PA, formerly of Morgantown, died Sunday at Zerbe Sisters Nursing Ctr. after a lengthy illness. Born in Coalport, PA, she was the daughter of the late James and Mary Yannuntz Fletcher. Mrs. Fasnacht celebrated her 34th wedding anniversary on May 31st to Ralph U. Fasnacht. Mrs. Fasnacht was a member of the Bridgeville Evangelical Congregational Church, Narvon and a homemaker most of her life. She enjoyed playing the piano and baking pies. Surviving in addition to her husband are two daughters, Barbara L., marriage to Alan Evans of LaPlata, MD, and Connie L., marriage to Wayne Jones of Cochranville, PA; one step-son, Mervin R., marriage to Connie Miller Fasnacht of Morgantown, PA; seven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; two sisters, Betty, marriage to Ken Greenfield of Harrisburg, and Shirley, marriage to Eugene Gockley of Ephrata. Preceding her in death are two sisters, Ruth White and Mary Jane Miller; and one brother, George Fletcher. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral services at 2 PM on Thursday, June 12, 2003 at the Eckenroth Home for Funerals, 209 E. Main St., Terre Hill, PA. Interment will be in the Bridgeville Cemetery. Friends may call at the Funeral Home on Wednesday from 6 - 8 PM and also on Thursday, from 1 - 2 PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Bridgeville E.C. Church, 5971 Division Hwy., Narvon, PA 17555.

Gerlich, Henry E.

Henry E. Gerlich, 85, of 448 Glen-Mar Ave., New Holland, PA died Wednesday morning at the Ephrata Hospital emergency room where he had been taken after being stricken at home. He is survived by his wife, Connie L. (Brito) Gerlich. They were marriage for 59 years on September 15th. Born in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late August and Rebecca (Taylor) Gerlich. Mr. Gerlich was employed for 38 years by the New York Transit Authority, serving as a supervisor for 20 years. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, New Holland where he served as a Eucharistic Minister. He had also served as treasurer of the Holy Name Society in Staten Island, NY for 30 years. Earlier in his life he had served as a scoutmaster in Staten Island and locally was a member of the New Holland Lions Club. He was an Army veteran of World War II having served in the tank division under General Patton during the Normandy Invasion.. He received a Purple Heart and the Good Conduct Medal. Surviving in addition to his wife is a daughter, Cynthia Gerlich Collins, Gaithersburg, MD and four grandsons. He was preceded in death by a son, Henry E. Gerlich, Jr. and a brother, George Gerlich. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, July 7, 2003 at 11 am at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 150 Water St., New Holland with Fr. John D. Schmalhofer as celebrant. Interment in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Ephrata. Friends may call at the Groff-High Funeral Home, 145 W. Main St., New Holland on Sunday from 7 to 9 pm and at the church on Monday from 10  11 am. If desired, memorial contributions may be sent to the American Diabetes Association, 3544 N. Progress Ave., Suite 202, Harrisburg, PA 17110.

Halsey, Gladys R.

GLADYS R. HALSEY, 92, of 2499 Zerbe Road, Narvon, PA, formerly of Bowmansville, Oswego, NY and Rumbley, MD, died Saturday, July 5, 2003, at Zerbe Sisters Nursing Ctr. of natural causes. Born in Reiners City, Schuykill County, PA, she was the daughter of the late George and Annie Barbara Sponsler Reiner . Her husband, Dr. Charles E. Halsey Sr., died March 28, 1978. Mrs.Halsey was a member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church, Princess Anne, MD and had been attending Pine Grove Church, Bowmansville, PA. She graduated in 1934 from Ithaca College, NY with a B.S. in Music. She worked for a few years as a music teacher for the Oswego, NY school system and later for the Brecknock Elementary School. She was also a life member and past matron of the Order of Eastern Star, Lake City Chapter, Oswego, NY, and a member of Phi Mu Epsilon Music Honorary. She enjoyed walking and gardening. Surviving are one son, Charles E., Jr., marriage to Muriel L. (Hurst) Halsey or Bowmansville; two daughters, Katherine Anne, marriage to D. Mark Hurst of Bowmansville, MaryMargaret Halsey of Prinston, NJ; five grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. Preceding her in death are one grandson, David C. Hurst, died in 1982; five brothers, Ralph, Robert, Clarence, Harry and George Reiner; and two sisters, Charlotte Lins and Alva Rogers. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral services at 10 AM on Friday, July 11, 2003 at the Eckenroth Home for Funerals, 209 E. Main St., Terre Hill, PA with the Reverend Dr. Rollin T. Reiner officiating. Interment will be in the St. Stephen's Cemetery, Upper Fairmount, MD. Friends may call at the Funeral Home on Friday from 9 AM until the time of the service. Harsh, Robert C.

Robert C. Harsh, 70, of 1402 Briertown Rd., East Earl, died Thursday morning at his home of natural causes. He was preceded in death by his wife, June A. (Mentzer) Harsh in 1993. Born in Honey Brook, he was the son of the late Clair and Esther (Howe) Harsh. Mr. Harsh had been employed by New Holland Concrete for more than 40 years as a tow motor operator. He enjoyed flee marketing and attending sales, and earlier in his life hunting and fishing. Surviving are two daughters: Sharon marriage to Nelson Groff and Michelle marriage to Andrew Maser, both of Stevens; two sons: Robert J. Harsh, Akron and Jeffrey Harsh, Narvon; 10 grandchildren. Also two brothers: Richard Harsh, Leola and Harry ?Hank? Harsh, Ephrata; and one sister, Doris Hertzog, Narvon. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Tommy Harsh and a sister, Dorothy Kise. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the memorial service on Monday, July 7 at 7 pm at the Grace Evangelical Congregational Church, 7th and Fulton Sts., Akron, with Pastor Ed Vidzicki officiating. Private interment at the convenience of the family in St. Stephen UCC Cemetery, New Holland. Kindly omit flowers. If desired, memorials may be sent to Grace Evangelical Congregational Church, P. O. Box 235, Akron, PA 17501. The Groff-High Funeral Home, New Holland is in charge of arrangements.

Jacobs, Donald H.

Donald H. Jacobs, 77, of 4011 Main St., Elverson, died Friday morning at home of natural causes. He is survived by his wife, Marian L. (Beiler) Miller. Born in Geigertown, he was the son of the late Harry and Bessie (Hohl) Jacobs. Mr. Jacobs was a self-employed carpenter and had retired in 1988 from the maintenance department of Twin Valley High School. A member of Harmony United Methodist Church, he was also a life member of the Morgantown Friendship Fire Co. and the American Legion Post 28 Millsboro, DE. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II in the 417th Infantry Regiment. Surviving in addition to his wife are five sons: Donald E. Jacobs, Birdsboro; Roger C. Jacobs, Morgantown; Melvin H. Jacobs, Narvon; Barry L. Jacobs, Robesonia; and Scott M. Jacobs, Morgantown; and three daughters: Linda J. (Jacobs) Bergmeister, Coatesville; Debra G. (Jacobs) Stauffer, Morgantown; and Karen L. (Jacobs) Scalese, Sinking Spring; a step-son, Kent S. Miller, Jacksonville, FL; nine grandchildren, two great grandchildren, three step granddaughters, and a brother, Harry Jacobs, Wyomissing. He was preceded in death by a step-daughter, Karen S. Miller and a brother, Richard Jacobs. At Don?s request, services will be private. The Eckenroth Home for Funerals, Terre Hill is in charge of arrangements.

Morlock, Dale D.

DALE D. MORLOCK, 50, of 2931 Oak Lane, Morgantown, PA, formerly of Schwenksville, PA, died unexpectedly Sunday morning at Reading Hospital of natural causes. Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Henry and Maryon Lobs Morlock. Mr. Morlock was employed for the past 30 years for the U.S. Postal Service, Lancaster, as a Telecommunications Specialist in the Information Systems Department. He was marriage 30 years on February 3 to Diane DeStefano Morlock. He enjoyed photography, bird watching, and Computers. Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Christopher M. Morlock of Schwenksville, PA and Eric S. Morlock of Royersford, PA; and one brother, Henry, marriage to Ursula Morlock of Plattsburgh, NY. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Memorial Service from the Groff-High Funeral Home, 145 W. Main St., New Holland, PA, on Saturday, June 21 at 1 PM. Friends may call at the Funeral Home on Saturday from Noon until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Hawk Mountain Sanctuary Assoc., 1700 Hawk Mountain Road, Kempton, PA 19529, or to Make-a-Wish Foundation of Susquehanna Valley, 1861 Charter Lane, Suite 107, Lancaster, PA 17601, or to the Leukemia Research Foundation, 820 Davis St., Suite 420, Evanston, IL 60201.
