Bertha P. Balmer
MYERSTOWN - Bertha P. Balmer, 79, of 414 Yeagley Road, Myerstown, died Saturday, April 28, 2001, in the Good Samaritan Hospital, Lebanon, of natural causes. Born Oct. 2, 1921 in Milroy, she was a daughter of the late J. David and Catherine B. (Fultz) Phillips. Her husband Lowell S. Balmer preceded her in death. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Harold A. (Kathleen B.) Houtz, Myerstown; sisters and brothers, Irene Kreydatus, Lewistown, Barbara Reed and Jean Ruble, both of Milroy; Shirley Keeney and John B. Phillips, both of Reedsville and Gary R. Phillips, Petersburg; three grandsons and one great-granddaughter. She was an employee of the former Marco Electric in Womelsdorf, for 26 years and later was employed at Layer's Flowers in Myerstown. She was a member of Beaver Lutheran Church, Beaver Springs and the Myerstown Memorial Post 6076 ladies auxiliary. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Rohland Funeral Home, 5th and Cumberland Streets, Lebanon. Interment will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. Friends may call from 9 a.m. Wednesday until the time of service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 1274, Lebanon, PA 17042.

Dorothy M. Baney
MIFFLINTOWN - Dorothy M. Baney, 87, formerly of Lewistown, died at 1:10 a.m. Monday, April 30, 2001, at the Brookline Manor Nursing Home, Mifflintown. Born Oct. 9, 1913, in Columbia, she was the daughter of the late Milton and Julia (Downer) Schaeffer. Her husband, Daniel L. Baney of McVeytown, whom she married in 1969, survives. She is also survived by a son, Ray C. "Chip" Aumiller III, Lewistown; a sister, Patricia Arnold, Juniata County; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one sister. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Bohn Funeral Home, Reedsville, with Marshall Deckard officiating. Interment will be in Birch Hill Cemetery, Burnham. Friends may call 10 a.m. until the time of the service Thursday at the funeral home.

Lucy C. Baney
NEW BLOOMFIELD - Lucy C. Baney, 93, of Perry Village, New Bloomfield, formerly of Thompsontown, died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2001, at the Village. Her funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Guss Funeral Home, 20 S. Third St., Mifflintown, with interment in Newport Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to: Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Box 217, Thompsontown, Pa 17094.

Lucy Larner Banks
MIFFLINTOWN - Lucy Larner Banks, 94, of HC63, Mifflintown, died at 7:10 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 4, 2001, at her home (Annsfield). Born Nov. 22, 1906, in Washington DC, she was a daughter of the late John B. and Anna (Parker) Larner. She is survived by a sister, Anna Southard Larner Cox, Lakeland, Fla. and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Lucy Larner Banks in 1938; three sisters, Ruth Larner Olphant, Margaret L. Wotherspoon, and Isabella L. Stott; and a longtime companion, Paul Ufema, who died in 1992. She attended Holton Arms School and the National Cathedral School, Washington, DC, and she was a graduate of Hillside Girls School of Norwalk, Conn. She had served as a Gray Lady for the Red Cross at the Walter Reed Hospital and Naval Hospital, Washington, DC, before making her home in Mifflintown. She moved to Mifflintown in 1931 and in 1944 moved to her present home known as Annsfield, where she owned and operated an antique shop for many years. She was a member of the Westminster United Presbyterian Church, Mifflintown. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Brown Funeral Home, 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown, with the Rev. David A. Cook officiating. Interment will be in Lind Memorial Cemetery, Lewistown. Family will receive friends 9 a.m. until the time of the service Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to: the Westminster United Presbyterian Church, 208 Lemon St., Mifflintown, PA 17059.

Marian E. 'Billie' Bardell
BELLEVILLE - Marian E. "Billie" Bardell, 84, of Valley View Terrace, Belleville, died at 4:55 a.m. Friday, March 16, 2001 at Valley View Haven Nursing Center, Belleville. Born Dec. 23, 1916, in Burnham, she was a daughter of the late William and Mary (Riden) McKinley. Her husband, Charles Bardell, preceded her in death in 1988. Surviving are: daughters, Mrs. Edward (Donna Jane Rittenhouse) Benner, Boalsburg and Mary Ann (Rittenhouse) Naylor, Lewistown; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was the last of her immediate family. She worked as a teller at First National Bank, Lewistown, and as a secretary at Juniata Foods. She was a member of Grove Memorial United Methodist Church, Lewistown. Her funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Carl Hill officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park, Lewistown. Friends may call from 1 p.m. Monday until the time of the service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Grove Memorial United Methodist Church, 611 S. Main St., Lewistown, PA 17044 or to Valley View Haven RD1, Box 827, Belleville, PA 17004.

Evelyn Mae Bargo
BELLEVILLE - Evelyn Mae Bargo, 95, a resident of Valley View Haven Retirement Community, Belleville, formerly of Lewistown, died at 4:27 a.m., Saturday, August 18, 2001 at Valley View Haven Retirement Community. Born June 8, 1906 in Mount Union, she was the daughter of the late Cloyd M. and Armenta (Taylor) Buckley. Her husband, Robert W. Bargo, died on July 5, 1973. She was also preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters. She is survived by: three daughters, Mrs. Vernon (Dorothy) Shields, Altoona, Mrs. William (Clara Jean) Lennartz, Chambersburg and Mrs. Jeff (Belva "Betts") Glick, Belleville; two sons, Robert W. Bargo Jr., Dover, DE, and Cloyd L. "Duke" Bargo, Reedsville; a sister, Clara Rakerd, McAlisterville; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. She was a homemaker and formerly attended Ellen Chapel Church. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Hoenstine Funeral Home, 75 Logan St., Lewistown with the Rev. Erie Renno officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7-9 p.m. Monday. Interment will be at Lind Memorial, Lewistown. Memorial contributions can be made to Valley View Haven Retirement Community, 4702 E. Main St., Belleville, 17004.

Charlotte Margaret Barner
LIVERPOOL - Charlotte Margaret Barner, 84, of Liverpool RR1, died at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2001, in the Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg. Born Dec. 27, 1916, in Derry Township, Dauphin County, she was the daughter of the late Austin Peter and Della (Zeiders) Glotfelter. Her husband, George D. Barner, whom she married June 4, 1938, died Feb. 20, 1981. Surviving are: children, Robert D. Barner, Mount Pleasant Mills RR1, Timothy L. Barner, Liverpool RR1, Mrs. Kenneth L. (Mae F.) Marshall, Salisbury, Md., and Mrs. Robert E. (June E.) Klinefelter, Lockport, NY; and seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Kitty Barner in 1987; and brothers and sisters, William Glotfelter, Lester Gladfelter, Ruth Stroup and Alveria Glotfelter, in infancy. She was educated at the Watts Grammar schoolhouse in Juniata County. She had been employed by the former Snyders and the Good Samaritan Convalescent Homes, both in Liverpool, where she was a nursing assistant. She was a member of St. Thomas Independent Brethren in Christ Church, Mount Pleasant Mills RR2 and the Liverpool Ambulance League, Liverpool. She was accomplished in piecing quilts, was an avid reader, loved flowers and enjoyed birds, especially hummingbirds. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the St. Thomas Independent Brethren in Christ Church, Mount Pleasant Mills RR2, with the Rev. Roger L. Womer officiating. Interment will be in the Salem United Methodist Cemetery, Liverpool RR1. Family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Friday at the George P. Garman Funeral Home, Mount Pleasant Mills and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Saturday at the church.

Wayne M. Barnett
MCCLURE - Wayne M. Barnett, 86, of 140 Whiskey Road, McClure, died at 12:25 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2001 at Beverly Healthcare William Penn. Born Aug. 5, 1915 in Punxsutawney, Jefferson County, PA, he was a son of the late James C. and Anna Mae (Mitchell) Barnett. His wife Dorothy Agnes (Wray) Barnett preceded him in death on March 30, 1999. Surviving are: children, W. Michael Barnett and Matthew S. Barnett, both of McClure; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Judy (Wray) Barnett. He was the last of his immediate family, having been preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Thomas Barnett, Oliver Barnett, George Barnett, Glen Barnett, Charles Barnett, Mae Barnett Snyder Noerr, Myrna Barnett Holben, Mary Elizabeth Barnett Noerr, Hester Barnett Black and Anna Grace Barnett Landis. Early in youth he lived in Hammond, LA and Bogachitti, MS, where his father owned sawmills. He moved to Lewistown in 1925. At one time, he worked in the processing department at the American Viscose Corp., and at Standard Steel, Burnham in the early 1940s. He then worked as a mechanic at Noerr's Garage from 1945 until his retirement in 1980. He was a charter-member of the Alfarata Lions Club, and a member of the National Rifle Association, the Fame Fire Company, and the American Legion Post 942, McClure. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Heller-Hoenstine Burnham Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jacob T. Traxler officiating. Interment will be private in Mt. Rock Cemetery. There will be no viewing. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to HOSPICE: The Bridge, 1126 W. Fifth St., Lewistown, PA 17044, or to the charity of one's choice.
