Norah M. Cope
MANHEIM - Norah M. Cope, 81, of 902 Hossler Road, Manheim, died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2001, at Pleasant View Retirement Community, Manheim after a brief illness. A Manheim native, Norah resided in McVeytown, Mifflin County for over 20 years. She moved back to the Manheim area in May, 2001. Born in Jeanette, Norah was the daughter of the late Benjamin F. and Sarah (Hall) Eckenroad. Her husband, Lloyd G. Cope, died Nov. 25, l989. Norah helped her husband operate the Lloyd G. Cope Plumbing and Heating Company in Manheim. She was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Manheim and was involved in her early years with girl scouting with the Penn Laurel Council. She was active in politics, serving as president of the Lancaster County Republican Women and was a Republican Committeewoman in Lancaster County from 1947 to 1968, and in Mifflin County from 1968 to 1995. Norah was a charter member of the National Republican Committee and served as President of the Manheim Women's Club. She was also active in the Constitutional Party, and in 1974, she was the Constitutional candidate for Pennsylvania Governor's race. On June 21st of this year, Norah was recognized by the Pennsylvania State Senate for her active involvement to promote political knowledge and activity and to encourage honest government with her activity in Lancaster and Mifflin Counties. She was survived by four sons, L. Eugene, married to Joanne L. Zuch Cope of Lancaster; Benjamin W., married to Evelyn Essex Cope of Lititz; C. David, married to Mary Stewart Cope of Willow Street and Douglas R. Cope of Manheim; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Norah was preceded in death by a daughter, Frances C. Dohner; three sisters and two brothers. Her service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Buch Funeral Home, 21 Market Square, Manheim. Friends may visit with the family at the funeral home 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday or Thursday one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to: Freedom Village USA, PO Box 24, Lakemont, NY 14857 or to Hospice of Lancaster County, PO Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125.

Charles K. Corson
LEWISTOWN - Charles K. Corson, 74, of 224 Church Lane, Lewistown, died Saturday, June 9, 2001, at his residence. Born June 27, 1926, in Lewistown, he was the son of the late David and Alice (Collier) Corson. His wife, Betty Corson, died June 2, 1989. Surviving are: a son, David W. Corson, 9 Corson Lane, Lewistown; sister and brothers, Martha Albright, William Corson, Billy Corson and David Corson, all of Lewistown; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Shirley J. Corson and Linda Mitchell; a son, Franklin B. Corson; four sisters and one brother. He was a United States Army and Navy veteran of World War II. He was employed for 17 years at Marlette Homes. Services will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be no viewing. Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan St., Lewistown, is in charge of arrangements.

John Cossack
LEWISTOWN - John Cossack, 86, of 212 Cornfield Circle, Lewistown, died at 4:15 p.m. Wednesday, March 28, 2001, at Beverly Healthcare-William Penn. Born Dec. 26, 1914, in Cambria County, he was the son of the late Joseph A. and Anna S. (Sherback) Cossack. His first wife, Hilda J. (Appleby) Cossack, died Sept. 15, 1985, and his second wife, Josephine H. (Hackenberry) Cossack, died Dec. 12, 2000. He is survived by a number of nieces and nephews. He was the last of his immediate family, having been preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters. He was a security guard at New Holland for 13 1/2 years, retiring in January 1977. Prior to that, he worked as a welder at Standard Steel for 19 years. He was a member of the Walnut Street United Methodist Church. Services will be private and at the convenience of the family at Heller-Hoenstine Burnham Funeral Home, 108 First Ave., Burnham, with the Rev. Jacob T. Traxler and Rev. Larry K. Lutz officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to: the American Heart Association, 501 Howard Ave., Building D, Altoona, PA 16601.

Harry R. Coulter
LEWISTOWN - Harry R. Coulter, 80, of 143 Pannebaker Ave., Lewistown, died at 8 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, 2001, at his residence. Born July 27, 1921, in Mifflin County, he was the son of the late Harry W. and Frances (Harshbarger) Coulter. His wife, Betty Jane (Sprout) Coulter, whom he married Nov. 17, 1945, survives. Also surviving are: daughters, Mrs. Charles (Carol) Poorman, Lewistown, Mrs. Larry (Nancy) Michael, North Carolina, and Mrs. Thomas (Cindy) Denslinger, Mechanicsburg; six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. He was the last of his immediate family, having been preceded in death by one brother and one sister. He was a United States Army veteran of World War II. He was a plumber and pipefitter for Local 520 in Harrisburg of 42 years, retiring in 1983. He was a member of the First Church of the Brethren, Shaw Avenue, Lewistown and a former member of the Lewistown Fire Police. Private graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family at Pine Glen Church of the Brethren Cemetery, with the Rev. Douglas D. Sherlock Jr. officiating. There will be no viewing. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice: The Bridge, 1126 W. Fourth St., Lewistown, PA 17044. Hoenstine Funeral Home Inc., 75 Logan St., Lewistown, is in charge of arrangements.

Jack M. Coulter
STRODES MILLS - Jack Maurice Coulter, 69, a resident of Supportive Concepts for Family Living in Strodes Mills, died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2001, at Lewistown Hospital. Born Sept. 30, 1931, in Huntingdon, he was a son of Raymond H. Coulter, Huntingdon and the late Annabelle (Argenbright) Coulter, who died June 7, 1999. Also surviving are: two sisters and a brother, Sandra L. Brechbiel, Huntingdon, Bonnie C. Lankard and Raymond A. Coulter, both of Savannah, GA; and five nieces and nephews. He was educated in the public schools of Huntingdon. He was retired from Skills of Lewisburg. He was a member of the Stone Church of the Brethren, Huntingdon and was actively involved with the Special Needs Summer Program in Lewistown. He enjoyed sports and wildlife. A private graveside memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family at Riverview Cemetery, Huntingdon. At the request of the family, there will be no viewing or visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Jack M. Coulter may be made to: the Huntingdon County PRIDE Inc., 307 Tenth St., Huntingdon, PA 16652. The John B. Brown Funeral Home Inc., 417 Washington St., Huntingdon, is in charge of arrangements.

W. Wayne Cowder
LINDSIDE, WV - W. Wayne Cowder, 71, of Lindside, WV, died Tuesday morning Sept. 18, 2001, at his home following a short illness. Born April 2, 1930, in Lewistown, he was a son of the late Wilbur Wayne and Amy Catherine (Livingstone) Cowder. His wife of 36 years, Jean Pamela (Dear) Cowder of Lindside, survives. Also surviving are: a brother, Irvin Cowder, Hagerstown, MD; and two sisters, Lila Warner, Belleville and Shirley Albright, York. He was a retired speech therapist for the Monroe County School System. He was a resident of Monroe County for the past 25 years. He was instrumental in bringing the West Virginia Symphony Orchestra to Monroe County for the fourth time. He was chairman of the Monroe County Bicentennial Committee in 1999 and was a member of the Board of Directors of the Monroe County Arts Alliance, the Monroe County Education Foundation, the Monroe County Tourism Bureau, the Monroe County Harvest Festival, the Monroe County Library Boards and the Monroe County Historical Society. Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Groves Funeral Home in Union, WV.

John R. Crader
PHILIPSBURG - John R. Crader, 72, a resident of the Presbyterian Home, Philipsburg, formerly of Centre Hall, died Monday, Oct. 29, 2001, at Philipsburg Hospital. Born March 23, 1929, in Gregg Township, he was the son of the late Alfred Lewis and Ruth H. (Gentzel) Crader. His wife, Goldie I. (Zerby) Crader, whom he married July 24, 1949, died April 23, 1995. Surviving are: six daughters, Darla J. Crader and Janet L. Hosterman, both of Philipsburg, Diana M. Kauffman and Ruth Neil, both of Lewistown, Carol A. Weaver, State College and Connie I. Eyer, Coburn; three sons, Lewis E. Crader Sr., Fannettsburg, Ronald J. Crader, State College and Justin W. Crader, Bellefonte; five sisters, Viola Osman, Buffalo, NY, Mildred Wingard, Spring Mills, Pauline Crader and Margaret Crader, both of Lewisburg, and Jean Howard, Williamsport; 20 grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren. He was a contract laborer in construction. He enjoyed playing guitar, hunting and fishing. His service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Steven R. Neff Funeral Home, 120 W. Main St., Millheim, with the Rev. Merrill Covalt officiating. Interment will be in Mountain Cemetery, Gregg Township. Friends may call 1 p.m. until the time of the service Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to: Presbyterian Home, 200 Medical Centre Drive, Box 551, Philipsburg, PA 16866.

Charles R. Craig
LEWISTOWN - Charles R. Craig, 90, of Rear 31 Oakland Ave., Lewistown, died at 10:20 p.m. Monday, Nov. 5, 2001, in the emergency room of Lewistown Hospital. Born May 5, 1911, in Randolph, OH, he was the son of the late Boyd and Esther (Rearick) Craig. His wife, Hazel E. (Milton) Craig, died April 26, 1982. Surviving are: a nephew, William R. Carter, 21A Oakland Ave., Lewistown; a niece, Margaret A. Elsasser, McAlisterville RR1; and several other nieces and nephews. He was the last of his immediate family, having been preceded in death by two brothers and one sister. He was self-employed in the furniture restoration business and was an avid woodworker and furniture maker. Early in life, he worked at Bell Aircraft, Buffalo, NY and in the early 1940's as an aircraft engineer. He was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, where he was a past deacon, Sunday school teacher and youth leader. His service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Trinity United Church of Christ, with Pastor John Livingstone officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Rock Cemetery. Friends may call 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. today at the Hoenstine Funeral Home Inc., 75 Logan St., Lewistown, where the family will be present from 7-9 p.m. to receive friends. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Trinity United Church of Christ, PO Box 1213, Lewistown, PA 17044.
