Ruth Ann (Sieber) Ughetto
PORT ROYAL - Ruth Ann (Sieber) Ughetto, 50, of R.R. 1, Port Royal, died at 12:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, 2001, at her home, of natural causes. Born Oct. 15, 1951, in Mifflintown, she was the daughter of Marion (Smith) Sieber of R.R. 3, Mifflintown and the late I. Clyde Sieber. Her companion, Rodney P. Bashore of R.R. 3, Port Royal, survives. In addition to her mother and companion, she is survived by a son, Daniel S. Kepler of Baltimore, MD; two step-children, Nathan P. Bashore and Lesley A. Bashore, both of Adamstown; two brothers, Clyde Sieber of Mifflin and Dave Sieber of Conroe, Texas; and three sisters, Mary S. Jack of Eagles Mere, Louise Campbell of Port Royal and Jan Wilson of Mifflin. She was a 1969 graduate of Juniata High School, Mifflintown. She was a member of the Aldersgate United Methodist Church, Mifflintown, and she loved camping, quilting and making crafts. She was employed by Empire Kosher Poultry, Inc., Mifflintown. A private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family with the Rev. Douglas Compton officiating. Interment will be in the East Waterford Cemetery. A public viewing will not be held and family will not be present but friends may call from noon to 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the Mifflintown Chapel of Brown Funeral Home, Inc., 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown. The family will provide all funeral flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Alfred Stanley Valeski
PINE GROVE MILLS - Alfred Stanley Valeski, 57, of Pine Grove Mills, died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2001, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. Born Feb. 11, 1944, in Coal Township, he was the son of the late Stanley and Alma Thomas Valeski. On April 22, 1972, he married Roberta "Bobbie" Singer, who survives at home. He was a graduate of Our Lady of Lourdes High School, Shamokin. He graduated from the York Academy of Art in graphic design. He was a self employed graphic artist and owner and operator of Graphic and Creative Concepts. He was a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, the Citizens in Action Committee of Pine Grove Mills and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed gardening and artwork. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sisters, Teresa Tillett of North Carolina, Roseanne Harris and Christine Zablosky, both of Shamokin. Visitation will be today from 7-9 p.m. at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton St., State College. The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Victory Church, State College, with the Rev. Martin D. McCamley officiating. Burial will be in Graysville Cemetery. Patricia A. VanArt
LEWISTOWN - Patricia A. VanArt, 62, of 22 Ridge Road, Lewistown, died at 1:25 a.m. Tuesday, May 1, 2001, at Beverly Healthcare-William Penn. Born Jan. 31, 1939, in Burnham, she was the daughter of Lois E. (Kuppel) VanArt of 50 Old Stage Road, Lewistown and the late Ralph L. VanArt. Her common law husband, Raymond Barber of 22 Ridge Road, Lewistown, survives. Also surviving are: children, Brent M. Barton, Raleigh Court, NC, Mrs. Michael (Leslie) Goss, Siglerville, Eric D. Barton, Lewistown, and Tyler W. Barton, Reedsville; a sister, Mrs. Stewart (Lisa) Snyder, Matthews, NC; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph L. Van Art in 1995. She was a 1956 graduate of Chief Logan High School and a 1960 graduate of the Lewistown Hospital School of Nursing. She was a registered nurse. Early in life, she worked at Lewistown Hospital and later for Holy Spirit Hospital in Camp Hill, retiring in 1985 due to disability. Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. There will be no viewing. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the National Hemophilia Association, c/o Hershey Medical Center, Hershey, PA 17033. Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, is in charge of arrangements.

Margaret Patton Vancsa
PITTSBURGH - Margaret Patton Vancsa, 68, of Pittsburgh, died Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2001. She was born April 14, 1933, in Lewistown. Her husband, George I. Vancsa, survives. Also surviving are: children, Linda Marie Schnatter, Hillsborough, NJ, James Michael Sieber, New Jersey, and Andras William Vancsa, Pittsburgh; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, William Patton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14 at St. Alphonus Church, Wexford. Friends may call 6-9 p.m. Monday, Aug. 13 at the Simons Funeral Home Inc., 7720 Perry Highway, Pittsburgh. Memorial contributions may be made to: the American Cancer Society, Southwest Region, 241 Fourth Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15222-1744.

Blaine J. 'Dick' VanHorne
LEWISTOWN - Blaine J. "Dick" VanHorne, 67, of 62 Woodbine Road, Lewistown, died at 7:50 p.m. Saturday, March 24, 2001, at his residence. Born Sept. 6, 1933, in Lewistown, he was a son of the late Ira B. and Dorothy E. (Fleming) VanHorne. His wife Jean R. (Rockey) VanHorne, whom he married Sept. 28, 1959, survives. Also surviving are: children, Teresa A. Galow, Poughkeepsie, NY, Lori A. VanHorne and Mrs. Ronald (Tami) Shawver, both of Lewistown, and Richard L. VanHorne Sr., Reedsville; sister and brothers, Helen Weyandt, Olympia, Wash., Larry VanHorne and Donald VanHorne, both of Lewistown; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three infant sons and a sister, Sandra Powell. He graduated from Lewistown High School in 1953, where he was the first all-state football player at center in 1952. He retired from Conrail, after 37 years of service. He was a member of the Lewistown Country Club; life member of the City, Hook and Ladder Fire Co. and the Fame Fire Co.; a member of the Lewistown Moose Lodge 143 and the Moose Legion 41. He was also financial secretary of the Chief Logan Lions Club, where he served as president for two terms and received the Melvin Jones Fellow Award. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Ralph Wilson officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to: the American Cancer Society, 26 N. Brown St., Lewistown, PA 17044.

Mary M. VanScyoc
LEWISTOWN - Mary M. VanScyoc, 91, of Beverly Healthcare-William Penn, Lewistown, formerly of Granville RR2, died at 2:50 a.m. Thursday, May 17, 2001, at the nursing home. Born Dec. 10, 1909, in Decatur Township, Mifflin County, she was the daughter of the late Jacob W. and Emma J. (Weiand) Snook. Her husband, John H. VanScyoc, died May 25, 1973. She is survived by daughters, Mrs. Fern (Janice) Anderson, Lewistown and Mrs. John (Marcia) Greene, Enola; a sister, Erna Seese, Lewistown RR2; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Granville Brethren in Christ Church, where she served as secretary of the Sunday School, taught Sunday School and Bible School. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Donald Peters officiating. Interment will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Mattawana. Friends may call 10 a.m. until the time of the service Saturday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to: Granville Brethren in Christ Church, RR2, Lewistown, PA 17044.

Violet R. (Brackbill) Van Sickle
MIDDLETOWN - Violet R. (Brackbill) Van Sickle, 80, of the Frey Village, Middletown, and formerly of Camp Hill, died at 8:45 a.m. Sunday, April 8, 2001, at the village. Born Aug. 16, 1920, in Spruce Hill, Juniata County, she was a daughter of the late Jesse and Della (Swartz) Brackbill. Her husband, Eugene A. Van Sickle, died Dec. 9, 1984. She is survived by one daughter, Louise D. Van Sickle, New Cumberland; sisters and brothers, Mrs. John (Jessie) Fairman, Mifflintown RR3, Mrs. Donald (Alma) Husler Sr., Mifflintown, Otho Brackbill and Arthur Brackbill, both of Port Royal. She was preceded in death by one sister, Adrienne Wright and one brother, Richard Brackbill. She was a graduate of Tuscarora Valley High School, Port Royal. She retired with 15 years of service as a sales clerk and secretary from the Sears Store in Harrisburg. She was a member of the Bible Baptist Church, Shiremanstown. She enjoyed gardening, specializing in flowers and tomatoes. Services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, at the Brown Funeral Home, 100 Bridge Street, Mifflintown, with the Rev. Ronald Shupe officiating. Interment will be in the Union Cemetery, Mifflintown RR4. Friends may call 10 a.m. until the time of the service Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to: the American Diabetes Association, 2040 Linglestown Road, Suite 106, Harrisburg, PA 17110.

Joyce E. "Tinkie" Varner
LEWISTOWN - Joyce E. "Tinkie" Varner, 55, of 10 Smokehouse Lane, Lewistown, died at 12:20 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, 2001, at Lewistown Hospital. Born April 15, 1946, in Chambersburg, she was the daughter of the late Ray G. Varner Sr., and the late June A. Mickey Johnson. She was also the stepdaughter of the late Charles W. Johnson. Surviving are: a brother, Dennis E. Varner; three sisters, Linda R. Sprenkle, Three Springs, Karen H. Myers, Interior, SD and Jacqueline L. Hosfelt, Newburg; and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers. She had previously worked for the Former Industries Unlimited Of Shippensburg. Her funeral service will be held at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, Shippensburg, with the Rev. William D. Holtry officiating. Interment will be in Spring Hill Cemetery, Shippensburg. Friends may call from 6 p.m. until the time of the funeral service Tuesday.
