Betty J. Welshonse
PORT ROYAL - Betty J. Welshonse, 72, of Locust Grove Retirement Village, formerly of Port Royal RR3 (Tuscarora), died at 4:22 a.m. Monday, Feb. 12, 2001, at Lewistown Hospital. Born March 19, 1928, in VanDyke, she was the daughter of the late Henry C. and Martha (Williams) Welshonse. She is survived by brother and sisters, John A. "Jack" Welshonse and Sarah Louise DeLancey, both of Port Royal RR3, Bertha Snavely, Millersville, Hazel Keister, Thompsontown, and Donna Baughman, Ickesburg RR. She was preceded in death by a brother, William Welshonse and two sisters, June Welshonse and Dorothy Burns. She worked in various departments at Empire Kosher. She was a member of the Tuscarora Church of the Brethren. A memorial service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Guss Funeral Home, 20 S. Third St., Mifflintown, with the Rev. Charles Sheaffer officiating. There will be no viewing.

David Henry Welshonse
MOUNT PLEASANT MILLS - David Henry Welshonse, 35, of Mount Pleasant Mills RR1, died of natural causes at 5:10 p.m. Friday, March 2, 2001, at Sunbury Community Hospital. Born July 27, 1965, in East Waterford, he was the son of Rhoda Wileman of Sannettsburg and the late Harry Thomas Gibboney. He was adopted and raised by Connie Knepp Leonard of Harrisburg and Harry Welshonse of McAlisterville. His wife, Diane C. Woodling, whom he married July 30, 1988, survives. Also surviving are: sons, Tyler H. and James E., both at home; sister and brothers, Teresa Crouse, Dry Run, Randy Wileman, Rocksberry, Dale Henry, Sannettsburg, Robert Henry, Shippensburg, Paul Henry, Harrisburg, and Jacob Wileman, Frackville; and maternal grandparents, Sylvia and David Kirk. He was preceded in death by one brother, James Henry. He was a 1984 graduate of Juniata High School. He was employed by Bingaman and Son Lumber, Kreamer as a leadman for 12 years. He enjoyed working on garden tractors and cars. Services will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Aurand Funeral Homes, 316 W. Market St., Beavertown, with the Rev. Barbara Woodling and Pastor John Johnston officiating. Family will receive friends 4 p.m. until the time of the services Wednesday at the funeral home.

John A. "Jack" Welshonse
PORT ROYAL - John A. "Jack" Welshonse, 81, of Port Royal RR3, Tuscarora, died at 6:05 a.m. Sunday, October 28, 2001, at Locust Grove Retirement Village. Born Feb. 23, 1920, in Woodlawn, he was the son of the late Henry C. and Martha P. (Williams) Welshonse. His wife, Margaret "Peg" Welshonse, died on Oct. 14, 1997. Surviving are: three sons, John A. Welshonse Jr., Mifflintown RR5, F. Scott Welshonse, Mifflintown RR3, and Timothy J. Welshonse, Port Royal RR3; three sisters, Bertha Snavely, Millersville, Sarah Louise DeLancey, Port Royal RR3, and Hazel Keister, Thompsontown; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four sisters, Betty Welshonse, Donna Baughman, June Welshonse, Dorothy Burns, and two brothers, William Welshonse and Dan Welshonse. He was a U.S. Army Veteran serving in WW II with Merrill's Marauders in the C.B.I. Theater of Operations, and later was a conrail track foreman, retiring in 1980 after 42 years of service. He was a member of the Tuscarora Church of the Brethren, the Juniata County Sportsmen's Association, and the Local 3002 Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and woodworking. His funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Guss Funeral Home, 20 South Third St., Mifflintown, with the Rev. Charles Sheaffer officiating. Interment will be in New Church Hill Cemetery, Port Royal, where complete military honors will be provided by the Juniata County Veterans Council. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Tuscarora Church of the Brethren in care of Cathy Eaton, treasurer, RR2 Mifflintown, P.A., 17059, or to the charity of the donor's choice.

Mary Louetta Sieber Wenger
AKRON - Mary Louetta Sieber Wenger, 92, of 925 Main St., Akron, died Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2001 at Ephrata Manor, Ephrata. Born Feb, 20, 1909 in East Salem, Juniata County, she was a daughter of the late Ira Haldeman and Melinda Jane (Yeigh) Sieber. Her husband Clayton Monroe Wenger preceded her in death in 1993. Surviving are: children, Cornelia Irene Horst, Broadalbin, NY, Grace Lorraine Heck, Sierra Vista, AZ, and David Alvin Wenger, New York City, NY; 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Irene Sieber MacKay, and by a brother, Ira Clyde Sieber. She was a graduate of Thompsontown High School. She did housecleaning for many years, was an avid gardener, and was a homemaker who enjoyed spending time with family. Her funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Ephrata Mennonite Church, 510 Stevens Road, Ephrata, with the Rev. Jeffrey High officiating. Interment will be in Metzler's Mennonite Cemetery in West Earl Township. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Monday at the Stradling Funeral Home, 30 N. Ninth St., Akron and from 9 a.m. Tuesday until the time of the service at the church.

Herbert W. Antoine Jr.
SCRANTON - Herbert W. Antoine Jr., 72, a resident of Northeastern Veterans Center, 401 Penn Ave., Scranton, formerly of Nicholson, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, at Moses Taylor Hospital.
Born April 20, 1927, in Clarks Summit, he was a son of the late Eva A. (Miller) Antoine, who died Jan. 13, 2000, and the late Herbert W. Antoine Sr.
Surviving are three sisters, Lillian E. Parry, Benetsville, S.C.; Alberta E. Antoine, Scranton, and Frances H. Edwards, Horseheads, N.Y.; four brothers, Richard H. Antoine, Milroy; David L. Antoine, Nicholson, Donald E. Antoine, LaPlume, and Edward B. Antoine, Dalton.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Imogene Cucura, Wanita Stanton and Glenda Major.
He served with the Army Corp of Engineers and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars 7251, Throop, and Elk Mountain Veterans of Foreign Wars 8488.
He was employed as a furnace repairman.
He was Baptist by faith.
Services were held at Litwin Funeral Home, 33 Reynolds St., Factoryville, with the Rev. Gerald C. Rust of Fleetville Baptist Church officiating. Interment was in Miller Cemetery, Edella.

Eva A. Antoine
FACTORYVILLE - Eva A. Antoine, 98, Factoryville RR2, formerly of Benton Township, died Thursday, Jan. 13, 2000, in the Hospice unit of Mercy Hospital, Scranton.
Born Jan. 23, 1901, in Scott Township, she was a daughter of the late Burdic and Lillie (Tripp) Miller. Her husband, Herbert W. Antoine Sr., died Dec. 9, 1969.
Surviving are: children, Donald E. Antoine, La Plume, Edward B. Antoine, Dalton, David L. Antoine, Nicholson, Richard H. Antoine, Milroy, Lillian E. Perry, Bennettsville, S.C., Alberta E. Antoine, Scranton; and Frances H. Edwards, Horseheads, N.Y.; sisters, Helen E. Voerth, Whiting, N.J., and Lila M. Henderson, Bradington, Fla.; 38 grandchildren; 75 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by children, Imogene M. Cucura, Wanita M. Stanton, Glenda J. Major and Herbert W. Antoine; four sisters and three brothers.
She was a member of Fleetville Baptist Church, the Women's Society of the church, and the former Fleetville Grange.
Services were held at Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit, with the Rev. Gerald C. Rust of the Fleetville Baptist Church officiating. Interment was in Miller Cemetery, Edella.
Memorial contributions be made to the Hospice Unit of Mercy Hospital, Jefferson Avenue, Scranton, PA 18500, or the Fleetville Baptist Church, Fleetville, PA 18420.

Glenn F. Apple
MCALISTERVILLE - Glenn F. Apple, 77, McAlisterville RR1, died at 6:20 a.m. Friday, Nov. 12, 1999, at his residence.
Born Dec. 21, 1921, in Richfield, he was a son of the late George E. and Della (Kauffman) Apple. His wife, Ellen B. (Lauver) Apple, whom he married June 4, 1944, survives.
Also surviving are: children, Darwin G. Apple, HCR 63, Richfield, Donna J. Saner, McAlisterville RR2 and Elaine K. Auker, Thompsontown RR1; brother and sisters, Melvin C. Apple, Cocolamus, Kathryn Lauver, Mifflintown, Orpha Brubaker, Mount Pleasant Mills, Hazel Graybill and Dorcas Fenner, both of McAlisterville; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Paul E. Apple.
He was a lifelong farmer, farming the family dairy farm from 1944 until his retirement in 1988.
He was a member of Delaware Mennonite Church, Thompsontown RR1, The Mahantango Grange, Richfield, The Young Farmers Association and the Pennsylvania Farmers Association. He was a former member of the Juniata Valley Bank Advisory Board.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Delaware Mennonite Church, Thompsontown RR1, with Pastor Terry D. Sheaffer officiating. Interment will follow in Lauver's Mennonite Cemetery, Richfield RR1.
Memorial contributions may be made to: Delaware Mennonite Church, RR1, Thompsontown, PA 17094.

Gerald V. Appleby
LEWISTOWN - Gerald V. Appleby, 78, of 10163 US Hwy. 522S, Lewistown, died at 4:05 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 8, 1999, at Beverly Healthcare-William Penn.
Born Feb. 14, 1921, in Ryde, he was a son of the late Wayne C. and Gretta (Kimberly) Appleby. His wife, Jean F. (Detweiler) Appleby, whom he married Feb. 3, 1941, survives.
Also surviving are: children, Mrs. Gary (Donna) Ciecierski, Lewistown, Gary W. Appleby, Perry, N.Y., and Jeffrey L. Appleby, Allentown; brother and sisters, George H. Appleby, Shippensburg, Mrs. Gene Johnson, Fairfield, Mrs. Ed (Marjorie) Bard, Lewistown, and Mrs. Lester (Mary) Moist, Elizabethtown; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, served in the European Theatre and was a POW in Germany for two years.
He was a lineman for Penelec for 36 years, retiring in 1981.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Lewistown, and the Men's Adult Bible Class of the church.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N., Main St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Richard W. Swartz officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park, where military honors will be conducted by Lewistown VFW Post 7011.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. until time of the services Saturday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Mifflin County Adult Day Care Center, Yale Street, Lewistown, PA 17044.
