Betty (Herkness) Corda
MOUNT UNION - Betty (Herkness) Corda, 84, of 18 W. Pennsylvania Ave., Mount Union, died at 6 a.m. Monday, Feb. 7, 2000, at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon, after an extended illness.

Born Oct. 14, 1915, in Huntingdon, she was a daughter of the late Dr. John and Edith (Emry) Herkness. Her husband, Dominic Corda, whom she married Aug. 8, 1959, in Altoona by the Rev. Samuel Thackaberry, survives.

She graduated from Mount Union High School in 1933, and went on to receive her teaching degree from West Chester University.

Early in life, she taught at Girard College in Philadelphia; later, she taught in the Mount Union School District for many years.

She was a life-long member of Mount Union Presbyterian Church.

She was a United States Navy veteran of World War II, having served as a pharmacist's mate at the Bethesda Naval Hospital, Bethesda, Md.

She enjoyed extensive traveling with her husband and liked gardening.

She also taught, and was a member of, the Shakespeare Club, Mount Union.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union, with the Rev. Robert Walsh and Rev. Elaine P. Africa officiating. Interment will be in Mount Union Cemetery.

Family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. until the time of services Thursday at the funeral home.

Geraldine E. Cramer
THOMPSONTOWN - Geraldine E. Cramer, 70, of Thompsontown RR1, died Tuesday, January 18, 2000, at her residence.

Born Jan. 30, 1929, in Maze, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Martha (Woods) Elsasser. Her husband, Earl R. Cramer, whom she married in 1948, died Sept. 23, 1960.

Surviving are: two sons, Timothy Cramer, Thompsontown RR1, and Mark Cramer, Mifflintown RR1; one stepbrother, Melvin Renninger, Thompsontown; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Willow, and a great-grandson, Trenton E. Cramer.

She was a seamstress at Lyons Fashions, McAlisterville, until her retirement in 1996.

She was a member of Cedar Grove Brethren in Christ Church, Mifflintown RR4, where she had been a Sunday school teacher.

She was a volunteer helper at the Paxton Street Ministries, Harrisburg, and enjoyed reading, sewing and gardening.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Cedar Grove Brethren in Christ Church, Mifflintown RR4, with the Rev. Kenneth Letner officiating. Interment will be in Maze Cemetery, Thompsontown RR1.

There will be no viewing, but family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until the time of services Saturday at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Paxton Street Ministries, 2001 Paxton St., Harrisburg, PA 17111.

Ronald C. Sheaffer Funeral Home, 16 Westfall St., McAlisterville, is in charge of the arrangements.

James M. Cramer Jr.
MCALISTERVILLE - James M. Cramer, Jr., 82, of McAlisterville RR2, died at 12:15 a.m. Thursday, March 16, 2000, at Brookline Manor Convalescent Home, Mifflintown RR1.

Born Feb. 6, 1918, in Youngwood, he was a son of the late Nell R. (Hubbs) and James M. Cramer Sr. His wife, Helen E. (Forgey) Cramer, whom he married Oct. 4, 1943, survives.

He is also survived by a daughter, Anne C. Supplee, HCR 63 Mifflintown.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, David W. Cramer and Charles ''Bud" Cramer, and a sister, Eleanor Barkley.

He graduated from Youngwood High School in 1936. In 1950, he graduated cum laude from St. Vincent College, Latrobe, with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Liberal Arts. He also did post-graduate work in International Studies at Westminster College in Pennsylvania.

He served in the United States Army during World War II.

He was a social studies teacher and basketball coach at East Juniata High School, Cocolamus, from 1955 until his retirement in l980.

He was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, McAlisterville, where he was a choir member and a past president of the church council. He was also a member of the Chorus of the Blue Juniata Chapter of the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barbershop Quartet Singing; the National Education Association; the Pennsylvania State Education Association; the Juniata County Education Association; the Retired Teachers Association; and the Fayette Township Water Authority Board.

He enjoyed hunting with his dogs, fishing, singing and music.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 15 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, McAlisterville, with the Rev. James Park Bricker officiating. Interment will follow in Lost Creek Presbyterian Cemetery, McAlisterville.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 26 N. Brown St., Lewistown, PA 17044 or to the Alzheimer's Association, South Central Pennsylvania Chapter, Governor's Plaza South Bldg. 2, 2001 N. Front St., Ste. 321, Harrisburg, PA 17102.

Trenton Earl Cramer
THOMPSONTOWN - Trenton Earl Cramer, son of Joshua Cramer and Jennifer Wagner of Thompsontown RR1, was stillborn at 6:45 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 7, 1999, at the Lewistown Hospital.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by: paternal grandparents, Timothy and Shelly (VanSyoc) Cramer, Thompsontown RR1; maternal grandparents, Melvin Leister, Thompsontown RR1, Michelle Leister, Kramer and Kenneth Weiand, Port Royal; paternal great-grandparents, Sheldon and Phyllis VanSyoc, Lewistown and Geraldine Cramer, Thompsontown RR1; maternal great-grandparents, Harry and Martha Weiand, McAlisterville; paternal great-great-grandparents, Brice and Madeline Hook, Burnham.

He was preceded in death by maternal great-grandparents, Albert and Lois Wagner, and paternal great-grandfather, Earl Cramer.

A private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family at the Ronald C. Sheaffer Funeral Home, 16 Westfall St., McAlisterville, with the Rev. Ken Letner officiating. Interment will be in the Maze Cemetery, Thompsontown RR1.

Ruth H. Crawford
MIFFLINTOWN - Ruth H. Crawford, 87, of Brookline Manor, Mifflintown, formerly of Potlicker Flats, Milroy, died at 10:29 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2000, at the manor.

Born March 22, 1912, in Yeagertown, she was a daughter of the late Clyde and Bessie R. (Baker) Artman. Her husband, Frank H. Crawford, died in 1997.

She is survived by a few nieces and nephews.

She was the last of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

She was employed by Murphy's Store, retiring in 1974 with 36 years of service.

She was a member of the Yeagertown Methodist Church.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Thomas Morningstar officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Milroy.

There will be no public viewing.

Memorial contributions may be made to: the Yeagertown Methodist Church, Mann Ave., Yeagertown, PA 17099.

Esther Cressman
LEWISTOWN - Esther Cressman, 101, a resident of Ohesson Manor Nursing Home, Lewistown, formerly of 118 Fleming Ave., Lewistown, died at 12:25 a.m. Friday, March 24, 2000, at the nursing home.

Born April 5, 1898, in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late Rev. Mark S. and Mary Cressman.

She is survived by four nephews and one niece.

She was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

She was a graduate of Susquehanna University and Columbia University, New York with a master's degree in mathematics.

She was a math teacher at Lewistown Senior High School.

She was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, the American Association of University Women, the National Education Association, and the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Lewistown Lutheran Cemetery, Fourth Street, Lewistown, with the Rev. Gerald A. Krum officiating.

There will be no viewing and family and friends will meet at the Cemetery for the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 120 N. Main St., Lewistown, PA 17044.

Hoenstine Funeral Home Inc., 75 Logan St., Lewistown, is in charge of arrangements.

Sara G. Crissey
LEWISTOWN - Sara G. Crissey, 92, of 205 Knepp Ave., Lewistown, died at 3:30 p.m. Friday, Sept.17, 1999, at the home of her daughter in Harrisburg.

Born Jan. 11, 1907, in Somerset County, she was a daughter of the late David and Sarah (Aiken) Gilbertson. Her husband, Charles E. Crissey, preceded her in death on Sept. 6, 1986.

Surviving are: a daughter, Mrs. Charles (Audrey) Spearing of Harrisburg; two grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

She was the last of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Calvary Bible Church, Lewistown.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 21, at Hoenstine Funeral Home Inc., 75 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Howard D. Houtz officiating. Interment will be in the Mount Rock Cemetery.

Friends will be received from 10 a.m. until the time of services.

Memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Bible Church, 301 S. Pine St., Lewistown, Pa. 17044.

George H. Crissman
SOUTH CHARLESTON, W. Va. - George H. Crissman, 78, of South Charleston, W. Va., formerly of Lewistown, died Thursday, July 15, 1999, at Valley Health Care Village in South Charleston.

Born Jan. 22, 1921, in Lewistown, he was the son of the late George H. and Jesse S. (Aurand) Crissman. His wife, Mabel Marie (Eichlin) Crissman, died in 1993.

Surviving are: children, Stephen Crissman, Sugarland, Texas, Jay Crissman, Elkins, W. Va., and Carol Varner, White Sulpher, W. Va.; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was a retired salesman for Charleston Clay Products.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Nitro, W. Va., where he served as a trustee.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. today at the First Presbyterian Church, Nitro, W. Va., with the Rev. Ed Thompson officiating. Interment and graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mark's Cemetery, Lewistown.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions may be made to: the First Presbyterian Church, Nitro, 21st Street, W. VA 25143.

The Good Shepherd Mortuary, 335 Fifth Ave., South Charleston, W. Va., is in charge of arrangements.
