Emma M. Hoover
LEWISTOWN - Emma M. Hoover, 87, a resident of Beverly Healthcare-William Penn, formerly of North Walnut Street, Lewistown, died at 11:20 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 11, 1999, at the nursing home.

Born March 3, 1912, in Mifflinburg, she was a daughter of the late James A. and Evangeline (Edalman) Blair. Her first husband, Albert Herbster, died in 1957. Her second husband, George C. Hoover, whom she married in 1968, survives.

Also surviving are: children, Jane Custer, Seattle, Wash., and Barry A. Herbster, Cheverly, Md.; step-children, Kirk Hoover, and Kay Hayes, both of San Francisco, Calif.; a brother, Arthur Blair, Ephrata; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers.

She was a housewife and had worked for nine years in the Lewistown Hospital Pharmacy.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Lewistown, and the Mifflin County Housing Authority.

Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. David W. Schmuck officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park.

There will be no public viewing.

Mabel R. Hopple
LEWISTOWN - Mabel R. Hopple, 83, of Ohesson Manor, Lewistown, and formerly of 9487 US Hwy 522S, Lewistown, died at 1:35 a.m. Friday, Aug. 20, 1999, at Lewistown Hospital.

Born July 21, 1916, in New Lancaster Valley, she was a daughter of the late Isaac W. and Minnie (Knepp) Weaver. Her husband, Charles C. Hopple, preceded her in death on Nov. 12, 1962.

Surviving are: four children, Jack Hopple, Rosie Hopple and Jay Hopple, all of Lewistown, and Wesley Hopple, Mexico; sister and brother, Pauline "Rosie" Griffith, McVeytown, and Roy Weaver, McClure; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sisters and four brothers.

She formerly worked for Dr. Cole in Lewistown.

She was a member of Centre Union Church, Lewistown, Atkinson Mills Senior Citizen Center and Ladies Auxiliary of the West Granville Fire Company.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan St., Lewistown, with the Rev. William Fetrow officiating. Interment will be in Mattawana Cemetery.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the hour of service Monday at the funeral home.

Jack D. Hornbaker
GRANVILLE - Jack D. Hornbaker, 75, of 40 Kohler Place, Granville, died at 12:33 p.m. Friday, Jan. 14, 2000, in the emergency room of Lewistown Hospital.

Born Oct. 31, 1924, in Hagerstown, MD, he was a son of the late Russell S. and Ruth (Baer) Hornbaker. He is survived by his wife, Anna (Bulick) Hornbaker, whom he married on March 1, 1953.

Also surviving are: children, Mrs. Gerry (Karen) McDaniel, Phoenix, AZ, Mrs. Carl (Debbie) Snyder, New Cumberland, and Jon R. Hornbaker, Lewistown; brothers and sisters, Betty Holden, Orbisonia, William Hornbaker, Lewistown, Mrs. William (Patricia) Horton, Shade Gap, and James Hornbaker, McVeytown; four grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.

He was employed as a hydraulic mechanic at Standard Steel, Burnham for 21 years and, from 1953-1966, had been employed at Cluett-Peabody Shirt Factory in Lewistown.

A veteran of World War II, he served as a staff sergeant in the United States Army in the Pacific Theatre.

He was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Lewistown.

He was also a member of the United Steelworkers of America Local 1940, Lewistown Elks Lodge 163, Lewistown Masonic Lodge 203, Lewistown Moose Lodge 143, American Legion Post 974, New Cumberland

VFW Post 1796, Black Canyon City, AZ and Mount Union Alumni Association and a life member of Brooklyn Hose Company.

He was a former member of the Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Jaffa Shrine, Altoona and Altoona Consistory,

A memorial service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday at Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Father Ronald J. Lynch officiating.

Friends will be received 6:30-7:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home; there will be no public viewing. Military rites will be conducted by VFW Post 7011, Lewistown and masonic services will be conducted by Lewistown Masonic Lodge 203.

Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mount Union Alumni Association Scholarship Fund, c/o Robert Goodman, 27 E. Market St., Mount Union, PA 17066 or St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 21 S. Main St., Lewistown, PA 17044.

Merrill Arthur Hornberger
LEWISBURG - Merrill Arthur Hornberger, 84, a resident of Penn Lutheran Village Nursing Home, Selinsgrove, and formerly of Richfield RR1, died at 9:05 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 17, 1999, at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg.

Born Dec. 2, 1914, in Richfield RR1, he was a son of the late Henry Snyder and Jennie Susannah (Graybill) Hornberger. His first wife, Olive Elizabeth (Leitzel) Hornberger, whom he married June 10, 1942, died Jan. 9, 1962. His second wife, Ella Mae (Fogleman) Hornberger, whom he married March 28, 1964, died Aug. 16, 1986.

Surviving are: children, Dale M. Hornberger, HCR 72, Richfield, Terry E. Hornberger, Middleburg, Neil A. Hornberger, Richfield RR1, and Mrs. Mardean (Sheree L.) Howell, Mount Pleasant Mills RR2; sisters, H. Marie House and Ferne Snyder, both of Richfield RR1, and Faye Smith, RiverWoods, Lewisburg; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Darlene J. Snyder, in 1984; two brothers, John Graybill Hornberger in 1987, and Herbert Hornberger in 1998; a half-brother, Dewey Hornberger; three sisters, Erma Hart, Iva Brown in 1994, and C. Violet Carvell; and a half-sister, Ella Renninger.

He was educated at Stahl's Grammar Schoolhouse in West Perry Township, Snyder County, and was a 1932 graduate of Freeburg Academy.

He entered the U.S. Army in 1942 and was a veteran of World War II, having served in the European Theatre of Operations. He was captured in Africa and moved to Germany, where he was held in a camp for prisoners of war. He was honorably discharged in 1946.

He worked as a skilled machine operator at Triangle Pacific Corp., Thompsontown, from 1966 until his retirement in 1979. Earlier, he had been employed by Olmstead Air Force Base, Middletown, as an instrument repairman from 1946 until its closure.

He was also engaged in farming and had worked for the Walter Stuck and Harry Stuck Lumber Yard, Richfield, as a truck driver.

He was a member of Richfield United Methodist Church and its Sunday school senior men's class, and he had served on the administrative board, the church council and the Sunday school superintendent for more than 20 years.

He was also a member of Richfield Ambulance League and Fire Company; the Area Services Ambulance Company of Shamokin Dam; the Mahantango Grange of Richfield, where he was a charter member; the Richfield Sportsmens Association; the American Association of Retired Persons; and the West Perry Township Election Board, Judge of Elections.

He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, and woodworking..

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Richfield United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Almon D. Baird officiating. Interment will be in Richfield's Union Cemetery.

Family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. today at the George P. Garman Funeral Home, Mount Pleasant Mills.

Enos S. Hostetler
MILROY - Enos S. Hostetler, 14 months, of 122 Shale Bank Road, Milroy, died of natural causes Sunday, Aug. 8, 1999, at his home.

Born May 22, 1998, in Juniata County, he was the son of Eli C. and Rebecca A. (Hershberger) Hostetler of 122 Shale Bank Road, Milroy.

Also surviving are: a sister, Lydia A. Hostetler, at home; maternal grandparents, Joseph C. and Lydia Hershberger, Winfield; paternal grandparents, Seth J. and Melinda A. Hostetler, Armagh Township; maternal great-grandparents, Melinda S. Yoder, Winfield and Enos and Rebecca Hershberger, Andover, Ohio; and paternal great-grandmother, Leah F. Hostetler, Reedsville.

He was a member of the Old Order Amish.

Services will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday at his parents residence at 122 Shale Bank Road, Milroy. Interment will be in the Back Mountain Cemetery.

Heller-Hoenstine Burnham Funeral Home, 108 First Ave., Burnham, is in charge of arrangements.

Franey N. Hostetler
REEDSVILLE - Franey N. Hostetler, 91, of 1162 Coffee Run Road, Reedsville, died at 1 a.m. Monday, May 3, 1999, at her home.

Born in Mifflin County, she was a daughter of the late Michael L. and Leah (Hostetler) Yoder. Her husband, Simeon Y. Hostetler, survives.

Also surviving are: children, Michael L. Hostetler and Ben Y. Hostetler, both of Aaronsburg, Elizabeth L. Zook and Rudy S. Hostetler, both of Milroy, Joseph M. Hostetler, Samuel R. Hostetler and Nancy Y. Hostetler, all of Reedsville, and Jonathan N. Hostetler, at home; sisters, Lidia Hostetler, Newburg, and Barbara Shelter, New Wilmington; 36 grandchildren; and 71 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.She was a homemaker.

She was a member of the Old Order Amish.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Simeon Y. Hostetler residence, 1162 Coffee Run Road, Reedsville. Interment will be in Green Lane Old Order Amish Cemetery.

Katie M. Hostetler
ALLENSVILLE - Katie M. Hostetler, 86, of 26 Farm View Drive, Allensville, died at 9:05 a.m. Thursday, May 11, 2000, at Lewistown Hospital.

Born Nov. 12, 1913, in Allensville RR, she was a daughter of the late Amos C. and Emma (Peachey) Yoder. Her husband, L. Paul Hostetler, died Sept. 6, 1996.

Surviving are: children, Paul Hostetler and Betty Hostetler, both of Allensville; sisters, Mrs. Newton (Mary) Yoder, Brownstown, and Mrs. Paul (Grace) Glick, Belleville.

She was preceded in death by brothers, Solomon Yoder, Thomas Yoder and Henry Yoder.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Allensville Mennonite Church, where she was a member of Hannah's Helper Sunday School Class, was a former Sunday school superintendent, and had taught in the primary department and the adult classes for a number of years.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Allensville Mennonite Church, with ministers Philip Barr, Paul Bender and Timothy Peachey officiating. Interment will be in Allensville Mennonite Cemetery.

Friends may call from 1 p.m. until the time of services Sunday at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to Allensville Mennonite Church, PO Box 35, Allensville, PA 17002.

Mary S. Hostetler
BEAVER SPRINGS - Mary S. Hostetler, 63, of Beaver Springs RR1, died at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 2, 2000, at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg.

Born Aug. 27, 1936, in Brown Township, Mifflin County, she was a daughter of the late Isaac H. and Lena (Speicher) Yoder. Her husband, John D. Hostetler, survives. Also surviving are: children, Mrs. Steven (Lena) Yoder, Mrs. Isaac (Nancy) Yoder and Mrs. Emanuel (Elizabeth) Yoder, all of Beaver Springs RR1, Stephen J. Hostetler and Mary Hostetler, at home, and Mrs. Eli (Barbara) Yoder and Mrs. David C. (Ruth) Yoder, both of McClure; brothers and sisters, John B. Yoder, Mrs. Abie (Lena) Hostetler and Noah Yoder, all of Reedsville, Mrs. John Z. (Mattie) Hostetler, Mrs. Christ (Barbara) Zook and Mrs. Esle (Elizabeth) Hostetler, all of Milroy, and Mrs. Solomon (Nancy) Hostetler of Belleville; and 19 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Frannie Hostetler, in 1992; a stillborn son, Michael Hostetler, in 1976; a brother, Michael Hostetler; and a sister, Leah Yoder.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of the Old Order Amish.

Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.

There will be no public viewing.

Interment will be in Samuel's Amish Cemetery, RR1, McClure.
